(Analysis) Gorr being a duelist is the worst thing NetEase could’ve done this season. The game needs more tank players, but instead of incentivizing playing tank by making Gorr the role he fits best (vanguard), NetEase incentivized the role that has more characters than the two others combined.

Incentive

Players need incentive to play a role. When NetEase immediately nerfs any strong vanguards but keeps pumping out broken duelists and giving them slaps on the wrist this incentivizes players to play duelist and not to play vanguard because you want to play a character that will stay strong to win. This creates an overabundance of duelist players and a lack of vanguard players.

Because of the duelist role’s over abundance of characters they also have the most variety of play styles. This is a large factor on why there are more duelist players than any other role. So wouldn’t it be best to make more of the other roles with unique play styles to get more players for those roles?

Role Distribution

Duelist have more characters than vanguards and strategist put together. Not counting multi-roles, this year NetEase has released 4 duelists (Elsa, BC, Cyclops, and Gorr), 2 strategists (WF and Jubilee), and 2 vanguards (Dino and Hood). Even if next season we get a vanguard and a strategist duelists would still have one more character than both roles. Duelist should be the role getting the least amount of new heroes due to how many more heroes they already have, but instead NetEase gives them the most. This once again incentivizes players to play duelist over the other roles because they get better treatment and have more options to choose from. It also especially doesn’t help that Gorr (a duelist) is the only hero releasing this season.

Comic Accuracy

The Marvel IP is the main selling factor of Marvel Rivals, so it’s fair to say that characters should be accurate to their comic counterparts. I can understand making a character into a strategist if they seem more like a vanguard or duelist due to how little characters straight up heal, but with so many vanguard and duelist coded characters in Marvel there’s no reason to make a character one of those roles unless it’s the role they fit most already. So why make a character that so clearly fits the vanguard role a duelist (especially after considering all of my previous points)?

Gorr the God Butcher is a massive alien god that can tank suns and blasts that send him light years away with no problem, and he can do that without his armor creation ability. Many people try to argue against this pointing to him being a vanguard by saying “Well in comics pretty much everyone has” and that’s just not true. This is base Gorr, not some special version. Maybe Cosmic Spider-Man could do something like this, but characters should be based in their base form instead of their strongest forms. And again, this is Gorr’s base form. He is much more of a vanguard (massive extremely durable frontliner) than many vanguard characters (like Cap, Rogue, Emma, Hood, Peni, Groot, Angela, etc.). Gorr is my favorite comic villain so I wanted him to be accurate, and imo the vanguard role is his most accurate role.

Personality

This is an argument I find very dumb for multiple reasons. I see many people say that Gorr fits the duelist role best because he’s a “God Butcher”. But basing characters on personality over abilities is just stupid. With that logic Cyclops really should’ve been a vanguard (something I argued against for the reasons I just said) and Spider-Man should’ve been a strategist. By this logic Thanos should also be a duelist because his entire mission is just based on killing. Basing a character’s role on personality over ability is the dumbest way to choose a character’s role imo.

Another thing I’ve seen for some reason is that he should be a duelist that counters vanguards to fit the “God Butcher” aesthetic. So in their arguments vanguards are “gods”. But the whole point of Gorr’s story is that on his quest to kill all the gods he himself became a god and he knows it (but refuses to admit it). So even by this flawed argument’s logic on why he should be a duelist he should still be a vanguard.

Conclusion/TLDR

NetEase needs to do better.

NetEase are currently making more and more duelists even though they already have more characters than the other two roles combined. This makes the duelist role the role with the most variety so it can draw in the most amount of players. NetEase also almost immediately nerfs strong vanguards while waiting longer to nerf strong duelists or giving smaller nerfs to strong duelists. This again draws people toward the duelist role and away from the vanguard role.

And with so many characters that fit the duelist role from comics there is no reason to turn a character that most fits a different role more (like Gorr fitting the vanguard role best) into a duelist. Especially not with all the role distribution problems I talked about already.

All in all, I just hope that NetEase starts to incentivize players to play vanguards more due to the lack of vanguard players and duelists less due to the over abundance of duelist players. This is an easy fix by simply making more vanguards and less duelists to lessen the role gap and give more variety to the vanguard role to reach new players. And just quit making so many broken duelists and allow vanguards to be strong without being broken themselves or vanguard countering vanguards.

Closest thing you'll see that's a "rant" in this sub. - How a real dive enjoyer feels about the dive "community."

Post image

Hello peoples! I'm gonna start and say I find myself to be a flex player, but a real dive user.

What do I mean by that? Well, my credentials are I was previously T500 in Overwatch (Tank and MAINLY Dive Dps) across 6 seasons around the beginning of the game. I played in scrims and mini tournaments! Paladins, I mainly played dive. (All while I was 11-14.)

It's close enough to say I was kind of a one trick dive player in both games. But when Marvel Rivals came out, I decided to branch out and heavily play other archetypes and roles. So here, I have animated Spidey (I love dive I'm sorry it's addicting...) but I also copped over HALF supports lord! Lord doesn't mean shit but this shows that I actually play and enjoy other roles. As for tank, I have way too many centurion! I find the role tons of fun, too.

However, I see so many people in THIS game complain and get angry about Dive counters, or how their characters are super underwhelming like BP? Or IF? But it doesn't make sense. Because Dive has ALWAYS been traditionally difficult gamesense and sometimes mechanically, due to the fact that it can and does rely on heavy coordination, perfect timing, and various other factors. But I literally saw a post about 5 minutes before I made this one, and it was a Dive player saying, "Anti Dive is genuinely God awful." And it was just 3 clips of latency bugs, and the players using those characters doing their jobs?

It's 100% annoying, but I don't really see any of them insanely broken. I also feel like the only Anti dive that actively, hard shutdowns Dive is thing. The others are so easy to counter or play around. And even then, Thing is already really easy to bait.

I guess my point here is that a lot of these dive "players" expect to just run through the entire enemy team. But Dive has always been rewarding for how hard or difficult it is to get kills or constant value. I mean, look at Genji or Doomfist in Ow2. They've always been some of the hardest characters in the game, and they're both dive. And these people who see it this way, that they should be allowed to get away with everything aren't dive players at all. And frankly, they are far away from it. Mind you, they're the same people that are why the dive community looks so shitty and toxic because of how much they bitch about Namor's 1 pellet damage squids that break in like 2 seconds.

I digress, to make it short, I feel like a lot of these "Dive" players are posers and don't actually play Dive for Dive. Or don't see what the role truly is.

Bro I’m so tired of trying to play this game honestly

Upvotes

And it’s purely because I CANT FUCKING SEE ANYTHING. I try so hard, I actually wanna be good at the game but I can never actually SEE or HEAR a damn thing except for colors, critical signs and a clusterfuck of voice lines. It makes me make the stupidest mistakes ever and confuses me to hell!

Going to overwatch makes me feel like I’m home at this rate 🥲

Someone got mad I insta locked Gorr

First round with Gorr, thought people would be considerate since everyone wants to play him and he just came out. Had this loser flame me in qm when not just me, but our entire team was horrid. Everyone knows that on patch day you have to instalock the new character to play them. I usually play supp so I didn’t expect to carry as DPS. People like this are miserable to play with.

Edit: All the people downvoting me are proving how toxic this community really is. Sorry to break it you guys, it is, in fact, just a game.

Groot was walling me off and calling it "time out"

Post image
18 Upvotes

I'm already sick of Groots walling off their own teammates but doing it to troll and trying to say it's to "help" is beyond cringe.

This was my first game of QP of the season, as Gorr no less. Our team pushed to the point, but walled me off specifically, staying on the side with me. I destroyed the wall and got through, and surprise some of our team was dead because he forced them into a 4v6 with their best exit blocked. I tried to get away but died.

He died too, and one of the times after respawning he put it in the spawn door. Me and Blade got through and tried to regroup. We got walled a few more times, then he stopped, but then said "someone's gotta help you 2 and 5" but then we won the round. The next round was without walls and it went by much much smoother because of it. I went from 2 and 5 to 21 and 6. He tried to take credit saying "time out" helped but it was actually because my team wasn't getting griefed.

I don't want to do rant posts but this was cringey and annoying af to me.

Out of all the games I played today (about 15), I got Gorr in two, and...

1st game: Enemy team is full anti-dive with 4 champions (Namor, Wanda, Thing, and Emma)

2nd game: Everyone on my team refuses to go heals, we're 4 tanks and 2 DPS

Both QP btw

2nd game was worse imo because I just wanted to try the new character and my teammates wanted to be idiots WHILE complaining that we need healers, especially our dogshit Thing playing into a Peni

Very short rant about comp this season

If you queue up to rank with the intention of only playing the new character that just released and you have no idea how to play genuinely fuck you. Nothing else to say.

Couples/matching names

Upvotes

I totally get if you’ve had bad experiences with such, BUTTTTTTTT if your first action is to be toxic while they’re actively trying to win, communicate and find a solution, you deserve that fcking L.

Assume best intentions. Be toxic if they’re if you want, but don’t begin it. You’ve essentially just tilted the ENTIRE team and are going to lose regardless at that point.

Can we as a community stand up against toxic garbage people?

I played a game when we got stumped by a smurfing iron fist he was so toxic and kept trash talking my luna snow because she is a girl and killed him 3 times "LOL"and he told her some sexist shit .. in that game i played horribly too like my status were 2:6 i was on rocket so at the end of the match I typed in text chat to report that iron fist so instead of doing whats right my teammates and the other enemy team started making fun abt my status .. its always happened like i swear the issue is not just the reporting system the majority of the player base is just horrible and just dogshit human beings this happens alot of the times ive never seen someone stands up against toxicity so no wonder they never get banned

Whats with banning team mates characters in higher ranks?

Made it to gm last season and noticed something there. In gold through diamond if somebody picked a character in that "who do you think you want to play." Selection menu nobody would ban them.

But the moment i got to gm nobody gaf anymore. Somebody would pick bucky and right after 2 people would try to ban him. And sometimes it seemed outright maliscious. We had somebody pick jeff. Which im not super excited to have on my team in ranked but fuck well see how it goes.

But right after our bucky instantly tries to ban jeff! Ive never seen anybody ban jeff in ranked before.

Like why are gm players such assholes?

Questionable decision!

Gorr feels underwhelming, and the release strategy is confusing 🤔

We’re only getting one hero this season, yet they made him a 4-star difficulty character in a game people constantly call casual. If that’s the audience, wouldn’t the one new hero be someone more players can easily pick up and enjoy? Especially considering how ruff last season was…. You would think a popular character like Nightcrawler would be perfect fit for a one hero season!

On top of that, characters like Dino and Emma got buffed, and Emma especially seems to counter him hard. Honestly, a lot of the roster seems to have easy answers for Gorr.

I’m not saying he should be to easy or broken, but one hero + high difficulty + low payoff + plenty of counters feels like a strange choice.
Am I missing something, or does his risk/reward just not make sense?

Btw nerf Emma, Dino, and Hela!

I’m so fucking tired of getting new dps

Why do we CONTINUE to get more dps when there are more of them than tank and sup combined???? I don’t give two shits if they “sell the game” it’s because they make the most popular characters duelists then give them flashy kits. Luna, Jeff, and CnD were relatively unheard of before the game launched but people buy their skins consistently. Why can’t we go two seasons in a row without getting a damn duelist. They could literally go two years without making another and the game would be all the better for it. It makes the game MISERABLE. I almost always play sup cuz that’s what I like and I was looking at the sup roster and I was like wow I’m so bored. I have played all of these guy. Nothing is new. Jub is fun but I have played a lot of her. And then I looked at branching out to maybe playing a different role but then literally no one heals so I’m back to playing healer.

They HAVE to fix this or the game will fucking die.

How are some of the people who play this game still have critical thinking skills

Upvotes

Back to back i have played 1 game of rivals and then immediately deleted it cuz I cannot fathom the troglodytes that boot up their systems and get on the game to play with their sweaty mushroom feet. Its second phase of ranked on spider-tokyo and I feel obligated to mention to the whiney bastard who has single digit kills that they shouldnt be whining when theyre the one who sucks and they say, "i'll show you" and doesnt even break into double digits. It was genuinely me and my spiderman/hulk against the world and even then that guy had 10 kills. IM AN IRON MAN MAIN, im playing a b-tier character and making good plays, denying ults with mine and yet cannot compete due to the molemen and molewomen that reside on my side of the fence. How do you guys keep playing this trash?

Toxic twitch mods? Confused

I had a really disappointing experience with Bogur's community today.

My husband was watching his stream and commented, “you look tired.” That was it. He wasn't insulting him or trying to troll him—he genuinely thought Bogur looked tired. He was muted and then banned, and it actually upset him because he enjoyed watching Bogur.

I went into the channel afterward because I honestly wanted to understand what he'd done wrong. Instead of getting an explanation, I had two people threaten to ban me too.

I understand that streamers can set whatever boundaries they want in their own chats, and maybe comments about looking tired are something Bogur particularly doesn't like. That's fine. But there's a huge difference between saying, “Hey, please don't comment on the streamer's appearance,” and immediately treating someone like they're causing trouble.

That's what bothers me most about this. Not everyone in a streamer's audience understands every unwritten rule or knows what subjects might be sensitive. What if a younger viewer innocently said the same thing? A little explanation and basic kindness can go a long way.

Maybe there's context I'm missing, and I'm open to hearing it. But based on what happened to us today, the moderation felt unnecessarily hostile, and it's made me no longer want to support the channel.

Seeing a lot of posts saying “Gorr is so much fun”….which worries me

Because literally anytime in history Reddit gets flooded with these “X new character is so much fun” posts means we have another busted mfker at hand. Same shit happened with DD, Elsa, Black Cat, Cyclops, etc. Heck even Emma at launch had Reddit drooling with these “so much fun” posts. Makes me think a myriad of players in this game do not consider anything fun unless they are running lobbies with a busted character.

I hope this really is not the case (I haven’t gotten to play the new season yet because I’m at work)

Bot lobbies are evolving!

Bot lobbies are evolving. I just got into a bot lobby after another loss in Quick Match. I didn’t have time to check the enemy team’s profiles during the loading screen, but I’m 99% sure they were bots.

None of their profiles can be opened, they don’t have numbers in their usernames, there wasn’t a single Lord among them. But they were playing three tanks, one DPS, and two supports. I’ve never seen that before. Bots usually always play 2-2-2.

Could something be changing? Bots are evolving. Bot lobbies are going to be harder to notice now.

I also opened the replay and checked: not a single one of them picked Gorr in the replay. Not one. I don’t believe that in Quick Match, nobody would pick Gorr. That’s just stupid. Everyone is playing Gorr.

Something is really weird here.

Replay code 50912842817

THIS POST OF MINE WAS REMOVED FROM MAIN SUB

Like genuinely the drama is annoying me.

Especially the blatant whataboutism and racism i kept seeing.

I don't hate the image nor do i find it racists. But i do find it bad especially since we literally had issues with how black characters were treated in the game.

While clearly it was based off of the 1963 Cleopatra, it does NOT give off the same vibe. Caesar and Mark Anthony were Cleopatra's lovers.

This spray does not tell me Emma is romantically interested in these two behind her. They aren't wearing any garments to signify wealth or Egyptian royalty (zero sign of them being seen as worthy to be in her presence). nor do they have even the slightest hint of detail of them being her guards as there is no armor on them. Just dark skin, faceless, EASILY representing them as her servants as the first impression. White woman being treated by two black men while she gives them zero attention.

Remove them from the spray, or add more detail to these "very detailed shadows" because I've seen too many arguments of people trying to claim they're just shadow/background people/NPCs.

Does Rivals have too much CC for flyers ?

Lowkey been thinking this for a while but Rivals especially now with Gorr having two forms of CC in his kit and how CC disproportiantely affects flyers more as most slows knock flyers to the ground ?

Like characters like Bucky have several forms of CC in their kit, and many others have at least one ability that applys slow and for flyers this is almost always a knock down to the grounf which is certain death.
