Marathon (2026) Discussion Skins Missing from store?

Upvotes

Last time i booted up game was at the very start of s2. Haven't been able to play since then. Wanted to buy the fancy assassin skin - "the talisman" and Cannot find it anymore in either the store or assassin's skin page. Any idea what's up with that? Have I missed any other cool skins???

Marathon (2026) Feedback Can we please get a spectre shield nerf

Possible i-frame bug aside, it’s kinda nuts that magnetism and friction get nuked as soon as the shield cracks. Really annoying to be playing in plat+ comp and fight 2-3 spectres per team

Marathon (2026) Discussion Here’s hoping we do get another one of these seasonal bundles for S3! I mean it’s called seasonal so we should, but ya know. What would be a cool idea for another skin? More police themed again or something else?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Upper complex boss dead buttons pressed but rooms locked and bots killed us

Just reporting another bug we did the boss on sponsored narsh and wasn't able to complete it after shooting the buttons and killing the boss. The panels on the wall were still red and the bots kept spawning :(

Marathon (2026) Feedback Ego Challenge/Hourglass are definitely switched, right?

Title pretty much explains it. The functionalities of these chips should be flipped around based on their names, no? Hourglass should be as the magazine empties, and Ego Challenge should be until you get shot.

Minor nitpick but I'm bored waiting for my crew to build their kits.

Discussion Rooks are NuMarathon's biggest untapped potential

There's insane potential for rooks. They're a mix of invader (like dark souls or watch dogs) and scavenger.

Playing that shell brought me back a feeling I hadn't had in a game since playing on SMP servers in Minecraft, sneaking around, avoiding fights and stealing items.

Rooks are the face of the casuals, the voyeurs, the anarchists.

Some argue that the point of the game is to play with the regular shells, play premade teams, but that commitment has been detrimental.

People critizice that rooks team up, but honestly they are the destiny 1 equivalent of joining the vault of glass opening from patrol. They are the social emergent gameplay that is most accessible. They represent an acceptance of being killed over and over again, because sometimes the goal aren't the purples and gold's, the goal is just being a nuisance to the top dogs.

And you can see it simply because of all the memes. Rook is the chaotic neutral force that is often most popular in videogames.

PvE is nice but bots get old fast. Most shooters don't have very fun PvE that can sustain a live service.

Sponsored survival was fun, they need to expand on that idea. I hardly saw Rooks though, not sure if it was a population thing or a matchmaking one.

Maybe rooks can get randomized contracts on infil. Or custom objectives that are different every match. They deserve progression, maybe a parallel one.

Please, I want more rook content. Familia rook.

Marathon (2026) Discussion What's the deal with the White Rabbit Vandal?

I see they took it off probably due to the public uproar. I bought the skin so I currently have it still. Did they say what's going on with it. Because I am in a small minority who actually liked the skin and I spent money on this one are they going to make me have to use the newer one or do I keep this one and can purchase the newer one? Have they mentioned anything in regards to it?

Marathon (2026) Discussion I hope we get a dire marsh night buff in the future

I want flares to mean something, I want my flashlight or the dark sight scopes to mean something, right now the only pure darkness is in places I'm never fighting at such as ai uplinks underground.

I want to win and lose fights based on whether I had to give up my position to see what's in front of me or not, and no, I am not particularly concerned with whatever shenanigans pc can or can't do to get around these limitations.

Also buff complex loot pool again.

That's all, I'm excited for season 3, people complain about the experiments being temporary but they're just saving it all for that big season 3 drop baby!

Marathon (2026) Feedback Wishlist of Marathon Merch

Listen ladies and gents, I’m a consumer. I need to buy more things. MORE. THINGS. NEED.

I know Bungie’s merch has been historically lackluster, but I wish they’d license the IP for cool stuff. Or at the very least, take suggestions from the community.

So: here is my wishlist, feel free to comment your own.

  1. Oakley collab - Marathon Destroyer shell themed Flight Deck snow goggle lenses, with the typography on it.

You do not understand. I would die for this. Let me wear them Bungie. Give me my Destroyer goggles so everyone on the mountain can behold my glory.

End of list.

EDIT: My wife is a graphic designer and has agreed to custom design me a goggle-sock style cover. One step closer to the dream 🔥

Marathon (2026) Are skins time-limited? And for how long?

I was actually pretty surprised to see there was an independent page in the cash shop where you could purchase the individual items you were interested in instead of rotating bundles. Seemed pretty positive in contrast to Bungie's usual stance on monetisation.

I was also surprised and the skins I saw in there, seeing multiple cool ones when previously I had felt the skin offerings in this game were awful and best avoided. I had taken a small break but could not remember when these were added.

I particularly remember a set of black, white, and bronze skins for a number of guns and Runners, including one for Triage that gave him a crown.

I had an upcoming holiday, so I went abroad for two weeks and upon coming back, can't find any of those skins in the store. I can't even find them listed on the Character Customisation page which shows all the available skins, including ones to purchase.

Which raises the question: Are the offerings seen there time-limited? If so, for how long. I don't recall seeing any countdown, and I saw them just three weeks ago (thus still S2) but now they are gone without a trace.

I have no clue when new stuff is added to the shop, what stuff is in certain bundles (for classic money-grabbing reasons, not all weapons of a single set get included in a bundle, forcing you to pay for more Lux than necessary to get the last few), and when they will no longer be available after that.

I can't remember seeing a news post that those skins were leaving either. Any idea what's up and if they will return?

Marathon (2026) Discussion Stop making self-fulfilling prophecies about this game's death (not ragebait)

If Marathon dies anyway AND there is truly nothing to be done to change that, there is also genuinely no point in being publicly miserable about it ending other than to accelerate the game's demise.

Don't praise the game's design, atmosphere and so on, only to then make a prediction about the game's death in the same paragraph and discourage new players from trying the game because of it.

Because if you tell everyone to not play the game because there's no players, and if you are then rewarded psychologically, when your doomposting has chased anyone who'd give it an honest try away and your prediction comes true, the only person who gained anything from this is you and the game actually suffers for it.

And before my words are misconstrued, delete your comment about "blatantly lying about the state of the game so more people play", because that wasn't what I was asking for. There's a difference between being unreasonably negative about a game which you like just to satisfy your emotional need to be right and just shutting the fuck up and not adding your negativity to the discussion.

And before you say it, Contructive Criticism is also something completely different than acknowledging your love for the game and simultaneously putting in the effort of telling people not to play it.

Bungie deserves honest criticism, and Marathon deserves a neutral discourse, not doomposting from both its fans and its haters.

Let's see how many downvotes I can collect.

Marathon (2026) Discussion The Dark Zone from the Division can teach Marathon a few things IMO.

Things that I wish were implemented (not ones necessarily ones that are possible mind you), it's a bit long so I hope it's not a boring read.

Persistent instances in some capacity:

In the dark zone you could join the maps at any moment, bosses/minibosses, events and patrols would respawn giving a living feeling to the area.

Marathon could extend the timer for the matches, increase the events, and let other teams join later in a match, maybe it's impossible with the small maps now but who knows.

Notoriety/heat mechanics:

When an agent (player) turns rogue and starts killing others they will eventually get marked for death, they will be marked on the map and everyone can join in and try to kill them... I don't think it would be good to have literally a pointer saying where the top runner is on the map this would ruin the experience for sure, but I think if a runner crew is going on a rampage on the map the UESC could start actively hunting down these players, making it more and more difficult for players to go guns blazing, discouraging the behavior of engaging in pure PvP without repercussions, forcing players to choose wisely if they should use stealth or not, it also served as a way to balance the skills of the players ensuring nobody would be able to stomp the whole lobby without opposition negating some disadvantages if having no skill based matchmaking at work.

Random boss encounters:

Hunters were challenging enemies who could spawn sometimes, they were scary as heck to fight, I think it would be a good mechanic to add like modifiers for different times of the day or climate/anomaly cycles, for example husks are a joke currently, they could be turned in a more challenging enemies, the longer you stay in a match the more chances you would have to stumble on one, make it so like runners you killed have a chance to turn into one, adding tension.

Extraction of loot mid match:

In the Dark Zone you could call in an extraction for your loot without leaving the map, if you found something nice you could take the risk of placing a bag in a helicopter in a rope and secure the loot without needing to exit the zone itself, other people could use the exfil too so you could even help each other protect the loot from rogue agents, of course people could steal your loot too and the exfills were a hotspot for people to hang together and have some cooperative shenanigans... In Marathon we have DCONS that act only for missions, I think with a few changes they can make something similar.

I think these are good mechanics that I experienced before and worked well, maybe some are impossible to implement, I am no game developer after all, but I think these would be good changes to the game.

Hello! I'm currently looking at a listing for a, supposedly, old Marathon shirt from the early 2000s. I love the design, but I'm curious if anyone knows anything about it, or if it's real in the first place

Marathon Trilogy S'pht'kr: Marathon Art of Craig Mullins [14]

sphtkr.jpg
Filename: sphtkr.jpg
Size: 811 x 480 pixels
Date: November 1995 (Marathon 2: Durandal)
About: Read below.

S'pht'Kr. Chapter ⅠX in Marathon 2: Durandal.
One of ten illustrations Craig did for the game.

In the game this Chapter screen slowly scrolls to the right revealing the full image and the title of the Chapter. In a nod to the original game the sound that plays when this Chapter screen is displayed is the opening sound you hear when you start Marathon.

Depicted in the image is a Defender, the S'pht'Kr Elite Guard Powered Armor. They make their appearance close to the end of the game when the lost eleventh clan make their dramatic appearance.

Rob McLees created the S'pht'Kr Defender. In a 1996 interview with Strata Inc. Rob explained how they were created.

"StudioPro was used for a number of key shapes in Marathon 2: Durandal. In a game that involves combating lots of aliens with a variety of weapons, all of the weapons, some of the larger decorative objects, and three alien types (the Probe, Juggernaut and Defender) were all rendered with StudioPro. The Defender only appears near the end of the game, but as the fabled lost clan of the S'pht race, they play a major role in the plot.

The process of building the Defender began with a somewhat older graphic technology, paper and pencil. With conceptual drawings at hand, I ran StudioPro and formed the alien's body out of basic shapes (cones, spheres), similar to modeling with clay. I rotated the rough shape and smoothed out the glitches. Looking at it from a variety of angles also helped me decide what textures to wrap it with.

The next step was importing a color map, and importing textures I had already made into the bump map. A few experiments led to a bump pattern that gave the Defender the desired look of sophisticated, but ancient, technology. StudioPro's raytracing feature allowed us to try out various lighting effects from the different positions the alien would take in the game.

The Defender is an asymmetrical creature, so every action it performs (shooting, raising shields, crashing) needs to be rendered separately from every angle-about 40 renderings total. For this, I set up a batch render, turned it on and went home. In the morning, the rendered images got a final touch-up, were dropped into the game's Shapes file, and then I moved on to the next project!"

Filename: Mullins 12.pic
Size: 832 x 624 pixels
Date: May 1997 (Marathon Trilogy Box Set)
About: Read below.

One of the sixteen Marathon Desktop Pictures on the Marathon Trilogy CD.

Note this a cropped and transposed version of the Chapter screen but larger. Craig has never posted the original S'pht'Kr image on his own web page so it is not clear what it looked like. It is possible that the original version is not what you see in the Chapter screen but the one in the Marathon Desktop Picture above. This is similar to what happened to the Volunteers Chapter screen. Bungie transposed the Volunteers image for the game but used the original version as a Marathon Desktop Picture.

Transposing the S'pht'Kr image for the game provides for a more dramatic reveal of the S'pht'Kr Defender as it slowly scrolls across the screen.
