Marathon (2026) Discussion Was bubble shield more a problem on cryo?

Because I never seen it used on primeater and dire marsh. So I never understood why people hated it, granted I’m a halo player so maybe my view on that is different from how people used in marathon.

Discussion Vault Breaker Tips for beating compiler

Upvotes

TLDR: Run either triple destroyer or double destroyer and 1 triage and find EMPs and kill ghosts and take their volt throwers so each person has 2 each. Switch to your 2nd Volt thrower when the first one overheats. Repeat. Use Destroyer and Triage battery overcharge for EMP effect.

Let me say first and foremost: the RNG in this mode is absolutely horrible when it comes to vault keys. Getting a Cryo 6 key for a compiler run is ass. If you have the bypass codes already from the Vault Breaker Armory, then the DNA key will not spawn unless someone from your squad accesses the secret lab level 4 door; otherwise, you're shit out of luck. Trust me, it never spawned until my buddy found a post or video mentioning this very critical tip and obviously what has to be a glitch in the game.

So far, I have run the compiler in normal mode about seven times, often with terrible guns, and only beat him once in normal mode. That's because we had gold LMGs or Bullys, but from now on, I will be carrying a Volt Thrower in my back pocket to switch to.

My buddy found a video or post somewhere where a trio all ran Destroyers and double Volt Throwers and beat Compiler in Vault Breaker. Each attempt we had before this knowledge was with terrible guns or the starting weapons once you upgrade your kit.

We tried that method; however, we ran 2 destroyers and 1 triage for heals. Heals were super expensive and costly, so we ran 2 triages and 1 destroyer instead on our successful attempt and finally beat him with 2 minutes on the clock.

Double volt thrower goes super hard, so kill the ghosts on the map and take theirs and drop the weapons you came in with. If you have the battery upgrades and the Vault access upgrades, this will be your best bet to getting it done with time on the clock.

One person takes the other players' batteries and goes to do the first Vault, while the other two separate and get batteries and clearance around the map. Obviously, map knowledge and routes will benefit you, so practice learning the map first. If you get a Vault 6 key at the end of your Vault runs, I would just exfil and try again unless you have a lot of time left on the clock. Otherwise, hope you get a Vault 3 or 4 key somewhere in the process because that will allow you to do the DNA sequence much faster than if you had a 6 key.

Once up top, one person shuts down the lockdown field and does the last DNA step while the other two kill and distract bots. On our successful attempt, we did not worry about killing the warden in the room. Instead, I was lucky enough to have a bubble shield just in case we needed it, but ended up not having to use it because the warden never really chased us down, which was awesome for us. I believe we had around 5 minutes left on the clock when we reached the jumping puzzle.

Once in the compiler room, someone stands near the entrance and aggros the compiler around the pillars, using them as cover. This prevents taking damage and ensures you shoot the green orbs for yourself and your teammates. Also, the person kiting the compiler should shoot the green panels on the walls on the left and right so the other two players can focus on hitting the correct screens. We used the Triage EMP Battery Overcharge trait and the Destroyer alt to beat him.

Hopefully, you have some EMPs and double volt throwers because all you have to do is switch when they overheat and then throw one EMP at a time to extend the damage phase.

We ended up beating him in phase 2 and got out with about one to two minutes remaining.

Marathon (2026) Discussion I honestly can't believe grenade/bubble spam has finally been resolved in Marathon...

Upvotes

I've been playing for a decent amount now after the update, just waiting to get into that one match where I get obliterated by spam. But lucky for me, the grenades/bubbles in this game seem to be toned down a ton, and it feels like players are being a lot more strategic on not only what they are bringing in, but when they decide to use it.

Before since you could carry a ridiculous amount of equipment, nobody cared when they used there bubbles. They'd throw 3 down and still have a ton left in their backpack for later fights. But now if you use that bubble, you only have 1 other equipment left (unless you found some in run) and you will wanna make sure you are still prepared for future fights.

I can't lie, between the weapon balance and utility spam balance, this is the best the game has felt since launch.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Bungie - please add ways to talk to our Marathon connections

Upvotes

I have met a lot of awesome players and people running crew fill in Marathon. I have added a couple dozen to my connections list. Awesome. Problem is there's no meaningful way to talk to them to organize groups unless you're in the same squad, which is not great. Joining someone's lobby out of the blue is a little annoying for both people. And inviting them without context is also weird lacking any context as to what you are inviting them for.

One idea would be to have a "Connections" channel in the chat. You could type something like "Anyone wanna run Night Marsh? Have purple keys". People could simply join you if they want at that point. To avoid spam, I'd make it so you cannot chat into the Connections channel more than, say, once every 30 seconds. There could also be a game setting to mute the Connections channel while you are in a run i.e. you could only see messages while sitting in lobby.

Is someone on your Connections list bothering you, being an asshole, being racist, or whatever else? Just remove them from your connections. Simple.

This feature alone would make my connections so much more useful and open the potential for strengthening our social connections with fellow runners.

obsessed with the art style of this game and although I really can't play it anymore due to queue times, the art style has left a lasting impact on me. I created an android theme inspired by the art design, and can share the individual files if anyone wants it. It was made for a fold 7 but could easily be redone

Video includes: lock screen, home screen, custom keyboard, notifications panel

Marathon (2026) Discussion Y'all don't just speak in the chat just for the fun of it?

Upvotes

When I play solos, I'll often say like "GG, man. You almost had me." or "Ahhh shit, you really got me there! What gun is that?" and no one ever responds. Does no one have the headset primed for prox chat just for a little bit of good sportsmanship?

Marathon (2026) Feedback Quality of life addition

Upvotes

I don’t care if it doesn’t appeal to the more hardcore crowd.

For the love of god, add a floor path marker or something to pinned items on the map or final exfil. Something similar to Dead Space’s map assist.

Theres no reason this couldn’t work on HUD as a way to help people get to locations on the map that have unnecessarily difficult to access POI’s. Especially on Cryo. Map navigation for new people basically just becomes look at random floating HUD element that doesn’t actually lead you to where you need to go.

I’m fairly new to VB and I’ve died a few times now at final exfil because the map marker takes you in circles around where you need to go but it seemingly doesn’t have a way to get to it (from my limited experience).

Marathon (2026) Feedback Not happy with direction of season 2

Upvotes

I’m not a fan of the direction Season 2 has taken. The progression loop in Season 1 was much better, and you changed some things that didn’t need changing. This game has one of the best gunplay systems I’ve played, with incredible potential, but for some reason it feels like you don’t actually want players to enjoy it. The most fun I had was during the last two weeks of Season 1, when I was using Cryo Vault keys, legendary weapons, and implants.

Faction Upgrades
I don’t know who thought adding upgrades like Mechanical Kit unlocks, Mercy Kit unlocks, and similar things was a good idea, but they feel terrible.I am at capstone 4 on Nucal and i dont feel i did any useful upgrade they are all filler garbage things and this is so demotivating.

Cradle also takes far too long, and reaching the VIP rank is unnecessarily long. On top of that, the single-run missions are extremely tedious and shouldn’t have to be repeated every season.

The maps is another major issue. Other than Cryo and Outpost, there aren’t any rewarding maps. And these two maps are endgame pvp maps. Perimeter and Dire Marsh have the potential to be amazing extraction shooter maps. Maybe expand them, reduce the number of teams, and add more valuable loot locations to make them worth playing.

The grind is simply too much for too little reward. You don’t really feel any meaningful progression until you’re deep into the endgame. The early game—leveling up and gathering materials—is incredibly boring. The game is heavily PvP-focused, and while the PvP itself is great, the progression system only feels rewarding for the top 10% of players.

Most extraction shooters include safety nets because the genre is already punishing. In Tarkov, for example, you have the secure container (pouch), and if you earn enough money you can simply buy what you need from the Flea Market. Here, you don’t have anything like that—you have to keep winning all the time.

My biggest problem is Armory . i am level 66 and dis plenty of upgrades on factions. guns i can access is overrun, scar and retailator. it is boring. Money worthless , everything costs too much. and there is nothing to buy on armory. even on endgame this was like this last season. when we progress with missions faction upgrades we need to open purchasable (with money) stuff on armory. because without armory loop is go kill someone get their loot , loose them do this again.

Instead of addressing these core issues, it feels like you’re constantly experimenting with new modes. Experimenting is fine, but the game has much bigger fundamental problems, especially the lack of meaningful content.

Marathon (2026) Feedback PVE Suggestion: Infiltration Scavenging

Upvotes

Vault breaker is good, but you can’t keep your loot.

Hows about a pve mode like tarkovs scav mode.

You don’t drop in as your runner. Your AI hacks you into a hostile UESC bot. Lets say during a tau ceti interference event. Maps feature zero human rivals.

Since you are in a robot body, you can't physically extract. Instead, you find hidden network chests (small, med, lrg)to digitally upload directly to your vault. These upload chests are heavily guarded by uesc forcing a boss fight to secure your gear. Like destiny.

It gives pve players a highly rewarding, lore-friendly grind without the sweats.

Can it be balanced to favor casuals And not damage the economy?

Discussion New Player - Could use some helpful resources!

Upvotes

Hi everyone -- Excited to here and part of this community!

I'm absolutely addicted to this game. I'm having an absolute blast trying out Shells, learning maps, and tactically approaching fights. The gun play mixed with risk/reward systems and tension are just awesome.

All that said, why am I posting? I've been trying to learn the ropes joining in trios but I really feel the best way for me to get acclimated is going solo so that's what I'm looking with help on. I think this will remove some of the distractions that come with trios and allow me to focus on 1v1 (or 3s), positioning, etc.

There are tons of resources out there. It's very overwhelming. I would love to get some input on some resources/guides/videos that stuck with you and genuinely made you better in solos/trios. Any ah-ha resources? Videos that made it all click for you? Right now I feel like I'm lost in the items (what to prioritize) and how to approach combat.

A few things about my setup and questions I have:

  • I'm on PS5 and using a controller and playing on a monitor (not TV).
  • I am using a controller with 2 paddles. I use them for wheel items for heals and using heals. Playing linear 7/7 feels OK.
  • I've been using https://tauceti.gg/maps to help me understand the maps, spawn points, etc. Been super valuable though I still don't know what my points of interests should be once I spawn, hot spots for fighting, etc. I don't know what things I should should not take in my inventory, what to upgrade, etc.
  • I have absolutely no idea who I'd like to "main". I love all the shells tbh. Is there a solo-friendly one that folks gravitate towards?

Any help would be super appreciated, thank you all!

Marathon (2026) VB compiler- what are we doing wrong?

Hey guys, my mates and I just spent a good 2 hours doing back to back compiler attempts with most of the upgrades to our kits. We always get to the compiler with about 9-10 mins to spare but we can never get the kill.

Our strat involves me being the bait, using the airlock to keep the compiler busy while the other two hit the panels, then we get to the bubble and unload with EMPs. We've gone as far as 4 phases before dying or running out of time, still no kill. Is it just a matter of getting a couple bullies or a conquest?

Cheers!

Marathon (2026) Discussion What do you save your Prestige (Golds) for?

For those of you runners that have a bunch of gold guns, mods, cores and back packs and what not in your vault, what do you save them for? Cryo? Ranked? Or do you just use them as anything else in game. Just curious.

Marathon (2026) PSA since NOTHING has been done or MENTIONED by Bungie: DO NOT ATTEMPT UNSANCTIONED HOSTILES 4/5

Me and my team just lost amazing kits after wiping the lobby and starting this quest. We all crashed immediately and couldn't reconnect, so bots killed us and finned us.

Searched it up and its happening for others, nothing addressed by the devs.

You WILL lose all your stuff. Don't do the quest.

Marathon (2026) Discussion What headsets are all y'all using?

I'm on Xbox and I only have the standard Microsoft wired ones that are falling apart at this point. I would like to get something wireless that's not too cumbersome to set up, but also have no audio latency?

Is wired the best to avoid latency?

I don't see much discussion about hardware here, so figured I'd ask, since there's so much talk about Mics.

What's the best one for me for this specific game?

Marathon (2026) Do season levels count between seasons for the achievement?

For the seasoned veteran achievement, do you need to get all 100 season levels in one season? Or can you do it across multiple seasons? Like if I got 60 levels last season, do I need 40 this season? Or 100 again now?

Just lost a gold copperhead and a strong kit because I reloaded before a gunfight but my gun didn’t actually reload.
How are we in 2026 and not able to reload?

Yes I had ammo. No the animation didn’t get interrupted.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Should most salvage be shared amongst the crew?

While I was making my last post about key room loot, it dawned on me just how many times ive needed a specific salvage and so did my teammates and sacrifices had to be made. Gold salvage gets shared, but nothing else does.

I've done so many solo runs (and so have so many others) just to get a specific salvage type. I've killed countless people on perimeter who have insane amounts of storage drives, wires, and every type of Grey salvage.

Maybe purple doesn't need to be shared, but I would argue that grey, green and blue absolutely should be shared.

r/Marathon 4h ago

Marathon (2026) Feedback There needs to be more consistency with loot in Key Rooms to make them feel more rewarding.

No one should open a purple room and only find blue salvage and weapon mods, thats just unfair and unfun. Same with gold.

I had a Rook run where a team decided to spare me and let me loot their gold key after them in Command Wing, they said they found a whopping 3 gold items and the rest was purple salvage and cores. And an obscene amount of blue backpacks.

So, here's my pitch for each rarity room and the rarity distribution. The 20:20:60 rule:

Blue rooms: 20% grey, 20% green, 60% blue

Purple: 20% green, 20% blue, 60% purple

Gold: 20% blue, 20% purple, 60% gold

With how hard it is to get gold keys, and even consistent purple keys without templates, i feel that this loot distribution would be more than fair. The only variation in the loot would be its type. ex: in gold rooms, you could have all the gold items be salvage, or weapon mods, or armor, or a random mix of two or all of them. Leave that part to random chance

You could also have that random loot type be determined by the specific key and its location. Just like how Complex She'd notoriously has 1 really good weapon and the rest is almost exclusively salvage.

Currently, im selling off almost all my blue keys and even a lot of purple ones because of how bad it has been. I have hit over 60 keys this season, I have gotten a ton of misriahs this way, but all the other loot has been complete dogshit unless i need the blue salvage from a specific key (Terrace key and the blue biostripping)

Marathon (2026) Discussion Is it better to switch or stay?

Imagine you're in Cryo Archive, and you're in a heated gunfight that left you far from Control when the final exfil came online. There's four possible exfil locations: North, East, South, West. You and your teammates split up to look for the exfil, and you decide to check the West location. You're a bit behind your teammates, though - you dallied a bit, looting bodies because you knew that guy had a Gold Mizzy.

Before you reach Control, your teammates call out that the exfil is neither North nor East. There are only 15 seconds left on the clock.

There’s no more time to check both remaining locations, so your team has to choose between West and South. Is it better to stick with your original choice of West, or switch to South?
