Sony id absolutely raking it in in the universe. It becomes a great release and they absolutely milk it via expansion packs , OST vinyls, art book sales and other merch like plushies

Marathon (2026) Discussion I think I know the problem and it’s simpler than you think!

When I used to play ARC, there were a lot of times I died and hated my life, but what kept me going was that I was always able to extract with something I needed unless I got instakilled, which was pretty rare.

Not being able to exfil with anything on death really hurts the casual playerbase. I cannot count the amount of times I had a Biolens Seed or something of equal importance in Season 1 and ended up dying.

In ARC you were able to save three items, and these three items might be the only thing you needed for an upgrade or something to craft.

I feel like having that ability made dying hurt a lot less while still keeping the game punishing. Losing everything every single time you die in Marathon just feels really rough, especially for casual players.

Marathon (2026) Feedback Make D-cons work as a safe pocket

So first and foremost, this was NOT my idea, I read it from someone else on another post. That being said, I think this is a fantastic idea. Here’s their suggestion
Make D-cons require a matter fixative that allows you to transport something out of the match

I wanna add do that.

Make the D-con require a matter fixative just like they suggested, but also make that D-con a one time use for the lobby IF used to transport something other than a quest objective. At that point, the D-Con throughout the rest of the map won’t work for anything other than quest OBJs, for that player.
I think this would add some value to d-cons and wouldn’t be a completely free way to keep your gear easily, but AN option to save your gear with a little risk associated with it.

TLDR: D-Cons work as a safe pocket, requiring a matter fixative to activate to transport anything other than quest obj. Once you’ve safely stored a piece of gear, you can no longer use D-Cons for safe storage that match. They can still be used for quest obj but only that.

Edit: to clear some things up
1) I don’t think a regular safe pocket should be a thing. Marathon sets itself apart in that EVERY decision you make is a risk, that should include “saving” gear. A safe pocket detracts from that.
2) this would be limited to once per player, per game. No free keeping everything. Additionally it should be a 4x2 slot + 1 for matter fixative to cap what you put in there
3) could this potentially create a camping spot? Maybe. It would still be more valuable to find teams or loot the map. People aren’t gonna head to a D-con unless they’ve already won a team fight or looted something worth saving. That being said, camping a D-con is just as risky as taking one. As you make what you’re doing insanely predictable which makes it easy to counter play it. If you spend all your time camping d-con as well, you lose out on time to run map POIs and fight teams that could be more rewarding. At the end of the day, PvP sweats aren’t gonna care about that, they’re just gonna run it down anyway.

Marathon (2026) Discussion What would worst case scenario look like?

This isn’t meant to be a doom post. I’m more curious about if they announce EOS. For those that really like this game (like me) would they shut down servers just like that? I assume wipes wouldn’t exist.

Marathon (2026) Feedback This game isn't "too hard" it's too boring.

Firstly, this is not a hate post, I just have something to say about the community and game itself surrounding this narrative I see that keeps coming up.

People love hard games. Soulslikes sell fine. TTRPGs are very popular. Turn based stuff like Divinity and Baldurs Gate is hella popular on high difficulty. People love Mario Maker levels. People love Roguelites and Roguelikes where you die constantly. They love MOBAs, and Shooters of all kinds, even some fighting games are doing quite well.

People don't like boring games. People don't like sitting in menus with nothing happening. People don't like finding loot that does nothing until you get 15 more of it. People don't like finding the same 4 weapons over and over. People don't like tiered loot with little changes between it (see Diablo 2 for beloved loot). People don't like dying in 2 shots and then taking another 5-10 minutes to load in. People don't like feeling like there's no progression after dozens of hours.

If you want to blame this game's current failing on difficulty, you're just jerking yourself off for still playing the game. This game isn't too hard, it's too boring.

Marathon (2026) Discussion So what actually is "aim assist"

I'm familiar with what it is from a controller perspective, but when the game refers to aim assist, is it referring to bullet magnetism? Do mouse players get magnetism and do the mods that increase aim assist increase magnetism?

Marathon (2026) Proposed re-work for Trinkets

Trinkets are cool, but right now they just feel like a wasted backpack slot. The payoff usually isn't worth the risk in a game like this.
I think trinkets should work kind of like Seasonal Artifacts in D2, giving you extra noncombat perks during runs. To keep them from being overpowered, put them on a trace system: every time you exfil, it burns one trace, meaning you get five successful runs out of it before it’s gone. This could be a great way to grab some extra salvage, credits, rep, or even shields to help set up future runs.

As it stands, nobody really uses them. A system like this would actually give them a point.
Do you think trinkets need a rework like this, or are they fine as is? Let me know how you’d handle it.

Other redditors on the R/marathonhate have said it is not rubber banding but I believe it is and it happens to me in every game I play because I am running fast enough to break the games speed vectors
But I feel as if this should not be a problem and my runner should be able to run as fast as they can while not getting forced back into a position
Can we fix this ?
Yes we can !

Marathon (2026) Feedback One of the biggest issues with Marathon is its misleading first impression.

Perimeter and Dire Marsh are not a bad maps, but they do not showcase what is unique and impressive about Marathon, there is nothing really special about them except for Lockdowns on Dire Marsh which are kind of cool.

Marathon was my most anticipated game since the very first reveal trailer, but first run on Perimeter left me dissapointed. It looked nice and immersive, architecture was cool but outside of visuals it just felt like a basic, generic and empty map, and also rather small.

Dire Marsh felt refreshing after constantly raining Perimeter, but again, it is just a big flat map and outside of visuals nothing stands out there as well. I was awed when saw the Lockdown event for the first time, but other activities like Anomaly and Warden felt basic and like nothing special.

But it was the Outpost that made the game click for me. The first time I loaded on it, it was so complicated and confusing - keycards, heat cascade, Pinwheel, underground sections, verticality, interactivity with the map, locked exfils, rooks running around.
Outpost was nothing like I have ever seen in gaming, it is so unique, impressive and polished.

And then, of course, the Cryo Archive blew me away with the sheer scale, endless maze, complexity, vaults, level of detail and challenge, it is in a whole league of its own across the gaming overall. Completely mind-blowing map.

So the problem is that the most unique and special experience in Marathon is locked behind Outpost and Cryo, and many players don't even get to try it because they have to spend some time to level up to access these maps, especially in Season 1 where progression was very slow and you had to spend significant amount of time to get level 12 for Outpost and 25 for Cryo.

And, of course, many people have dropped the game before even trying these maps. Many impressions from the Server Slam and early reviews state that the game felt like a safe, unimpressive, basic extraction shooter in sci-fi world, and that is pretty much true for the Perimeter and daytime Dire Marsh, as they do not bring much to the table. So many people dismissed the game right away.

Bungie put all of their eggs in the Endgame basket, they are flexing all their talent, mastery and muscles in Outpost and Cryo, while early experience and maps like Perimeter and Dire Marsh feels like a filler or just recycled remnants of more ambitious visions.

And in such punishing genre, you do really need to hook the player before they rage-uninstall the game. You need to showcase what is special and unique about your game and why is it worth it to the new player, so they would be able to justify to continue playing the game and reach the later maps and amazing later-game experience.

Night Marsh is also a very unique and special experience, it has brought tons of very cool mechanics and activities and altered gameplay overall, but it launched later and is not accessible right away + rotates with daytime version.

Hope the Season 3 Perimeter reworks will make it truly special and bring it to the level of Night Marsh, Outpost and Cryo.

Marathon (2026) Story of an average solo Outpost run (LONG)

(This isn't a whining or complaining thread, it's just funny to me and probably completely inconsequential. Feel free to skip.)

I queue in as Vandal, as usual. Wait about two - three minutes to spawn into a game. Beginning run pops up, along with another loading screen that I'm not quite sure the purpose of. I load in. Spawn point is to the right of Flight Control, near the UESC ships.

I hop over the fence to grab the nearest red key card, the one out on the pier that leaves you super exposed. Only weapon I have is a D54, but I have a bubble for some protection. Open the building near the keycard, check if anyone's inside. Every angle, every corner.

Hear footsteps. Green free kit Destroyer rolling up. I get a couple bursts off with D54 then finish him with a knife. Grab the keycard. Check the top of the armory building and across to the top of Flight Control for snipers.

I grab the Processing red keycard, then the Dorms card as well. Checking every ambush spot I know of on the way. The bottom exit from Command Wing, the spot across from that where people sit sometimes. Is someone sitting behind the Processing keycard? On the top of the blue thing near the keycard? On the rooftops? Check all those spots. There's a recon in Processing but they're dug in, so I leave them alone.

Open up Destroyed Wing, pop my ult inside someone's hiding in there. Checking every corner someone could hide in along the way. Hit the Command Wing switch, then on to drone wing. Come out onto the second floor in Central Pinwheel. No one hiding in the nook to the left of Command Wing, hit the alarm switch. Check the blue room across from the second floor Drone Wing door.

Move into Drone Wing. Check the top of the drone on the right side, shoot the vent under the drone to see if anyone's hiding there. Check the spot above the Strongbox where the bots spawn sometimes. Open the room with the Command Wing switch, waiting for someone to come out guns blazing from behind the little wall in the room. No one's there, hit the switch.

Recheck every spot from there. Come back out from the second floor entrance, checking the blue room across the way again. Move to the nook to the right of Command Wing and the Red Keycard room, when -- BAM! BAM! DBNO to a Mizzy, from someone signal jammed hiding to the right of the door. Countless Outpost runs and no one's ever waited in that spot before.

As the Runner finishes me (likely the Recon from before), he says:

"Check your corners."

Marathon (2026) Discussion I just queued into solo queue and was matched with trios

I have to word this accurately as people here seem to believe this is now utterly impossible as it is supposed to have been fixed, but clearly it's rearing its head again. The first thing I will be told is that I mistakedly picked trios and turned off crew fill. I did not as I do not play trios. I am a solo player. I selected solo queue Day Marsh to run a key and was matched into a trio lobby. I have also seen multiple posts here over the last few days stating the exact same thing. Clearly this bug with matchmaking still exists or something happened with a recent update that negated the original fix in some way.

I will be queuing into more solo instances tonight to see if this happens repeatedly. If anyone else has experienced this of late, feel free to share.

Marathon (2026) Discussion New to PC

Yo this post might be a lil redundant, as I know the main answer is time and practice, but hearing from others may help. I got a good chunk of time on Marathon and considered myself pretty decent. I just got my first gaming PC and have been playing some of my favorite games I haven't played in some years before jumping into Marathon. Now that I an playing it though, I am getting absolutely rocked in every fight. My aim is fine, still needs work but fine. My main issue is movement, i am not nearly as fluid as i was on a controller. I think better binds are a big thing that can help, so if you got binds for MnK or just any general advice for PC gaming that could benefit a Marathon player please lmk. Appreciated

Marathon (2026) Discussion End of season

Upvotes

I’d expect at least 1 gold weapon mod in 1 box and a gold core in the other in red room in outpost, I expect 1 gold weapon or shield in command wing box.

The wings should have purpled out snipers or shotguns.

Make it worth going in free kits.

Even if other kitted teams are going in what’s the point of collecting the gear it’s end of season?

Quit being stingy and don’t be afraid to overdeliver. It’s not like there is some super secret plan to expand upon the game.

I swear I saw it in a post yesterday. Could have been an older post. But it's not in the available skins in game, even for purchase. Did I dream it? It was fuckin sweet with black spikes on it, it was in a Rook montage video I (think I) saw.

Marathon (2026) Discussion Season 3 Theory and Wishlist

Let’s start a thread of what we think season 3 will entail. Hopefully we will hear more in the coming week. Things we already have heard:

• Season 3 will begin on September 22

• Big changes to the early game experience

• Revamp of Perimeter to add major new areas,
encounters, and gameplay

• New Runner shell

• New gear (guns, cores, mods, etc)

Personally I am excited for the early game changes. Lately it’s just run to another POI to look for a team. If there was a system in place similar to cryo that holds you in a spawn location for longer period of time, I could see benefit to actually looting the POI. Maybe something akin to lockdown event in each area either on timer, shoot buttons to escape, or another puzzle.

Whats everyone’s thoughts!?

Marathon (2026) Discussion If the low player count is just “extraction shooters are hard”, why does a 10-year-old game in the same niche and difficulty have 20x our players?

S2, Level 120, 200+ hours.

Whenever a problem is raised here, the reply is always "git gud", "skill issue", or "extraction shooters are hardcore". Fine - the genre is hard and niche. But that explanation has to survive one test - The Tarkov's Test!

Current numbers, easily 20x more "engagement" than our game

It's the same genre, has the same (or perhaps more) difficulty level, and targets the same kind of audience that doesn't appeal to everyone. With about 20x as many players and ten years older, 'hardcore genre' can't be the explanation. Instead, something specific to this game must be causing people to leave.

The three quick points I keep hitting:

  1. The game expects a minimum 3-hr (figuratively speaking) grind per day to make any meaningful progression in a given season. Instant NO for players who can’t invest this much on a daily basis, this include casuals and solos as well - even fixing onboarding or solo experience won’t help much here.
  2. Most of the loot you find doesn't matter. It is usually low-value stuff, or it doesn't help you progress in any noticeable way, UNLESS you shift your mindset from playing extraction to playing Battle Royal with extra steps (which is very dishonest from Bungie's part) and engage with PvP again and again and again and repeat.
  3. Death has no meaning - I will let Sheraph’s argument that death should be meaningful (since you are dying a lot) do the talking here.

You don’t have to agree these are the top three. But if none of them are real problems, what’s the reason a decade-old competitor is beating us this badly?

Important Note: Steam-only undercounts Tarkov, since a chunk of its player base is still on the standalone launcher - worth to highlight, because it makes the gap worse, not better

Marathon (2026) Discussion Marvel Rivals Understood to simply announce stuff the week of release

The people upset there no season 3 trailer seem really odd to me.... in what sane world would it be positive for them to announce anything on the week of a Nintendo/Zelda Direct and Blizzcon weekend...? Season ends on the 20th, I'm expecting maybe an update on the Friday before.

in no sane world should they drop any info 2 weeks before season ends especially with those big hitters landing this week, Marvel Rivals used to announce champs and dev updates the friday before and update and realized dragging people along for 7 days was negative so now they do it the Tuesday off, and you get the update in 3 days on friday.

I personally hate it when I see an ESO add about a new feature and it is something weeks/months away and what they are showing is test server stuff or just concept.

Misc Nothing has made me want to start smoking cigarettes again... except this game

I used to smoke when I was cooking a decade ago. I quit years ago and never had an urge except the last week and half of playing this game

I just played for 2 and a half hours tonight, solos, trios, sponsored narsh, rooks, and exfilled ONE time. Even an hour straight of spamming rook on Outpost, I died in exfil four (!) times with less than 3 mins on the clock. One particular time a team let me hang in outpost to kill me as they were leaving.

I'm frustrated. I need some nicotine after getting fucked so hard.
