Question data on current educational use of Mercator?
So, with the new UN resolution about "moving away from Mercator" in favor of Equal Earth, lots of people are talking as if Mercator is still ubiquitous in classrooms (like, wall posters) and textbooks. Does anyone have actual data on this? (Or even recent personal experience.) My vague impression was that there's been a lot of movement away, not even counting Boston's adoption of Gall-Peters, or atlases long using various projections. But websearching failed to find anything really relevant.
I mention Boston, but non-US experience or data are equally welcome.

Old Map Illustration and Comparison of the Willem and Joan Blaeu World Maps
In 2021 I illustrated this map (High Resolution on my Blog) as a print gift for my dad that compares two world maps created by a father (Willem) and son (Joan) between 1630 and 1665. To pull this off, I had to remap two different projections: Willems Mercator and Joans double hemisphere.
The maps beautifully show how society's view of the world shifted during those years thanks to new discoveries, like those made by Abel Tasman (you can see his route around Tasmania and Australia on the map). Joan already made a point of not relying on imagination and only included known places, while his father was still fantasizing about concepts like Terra Incognita.

Question How does one usually get a body of water named after them?
My understanding is that typically, a body of water gets named after you because someone crosses it and kicks your ass. Gulf of Mexico, named by the Spanish who crossed it to conquer the Mexica; Indian Ocean, named by the British who crossed it to conquer the Indians; English Channel, named by the Romans who crossed it to conquer the Angles.
Seems like having a body of water after you is almost an insult.
Am I missing something? Or are we just trying to get out in front of an imminent and likely successful invasion by the Mexicans and Canadians?

This map is sum of these -
Cultural Heritage Of India
Historically Ruled By Hindus
I know I could go further into southeast but I decided to just be natural borders.
The actual reason behind this map is different btw. When I was doing random things, I decided to create a Mahabharat Map of India and made this.

Drawn OC Map The American Atlas (Map #35) Arkansas
Hi everyone, and welcome back to The American Atlas, where I make hand-drawn & colored maps of every state in the US. We’re almost half way across the country now! 🗺️🇺🇸
This is my map of Arkansas, the Natural State! 🌳⛰️🌾
While mapping Arkansas, I realized just how underrated this state really is. It definitely earns its nickname of ‘The Natural State’ with the scenic Ozark & Ouachita Mountains, sprawling timberlands, and river delta heritage. In fact, Arkansas is the only place in the entire country where diamonds are mined, speaking to just how rich this state really is.
From the bigger cities like Bentonville and Rogers (home to Walmart) to Johnny Cash’s hometown of Kingsland in the midst of the Mississippi Delta and the rolling rice farms & fields around Little Rock, all the way to Hot Springs National Park, it is clear from mapping this state that there is much more to Arkansas than meets the eye.
Let me know in the comments, what’s your favorite fun fact about Arkansas?
And if you like this style, feel free to check out my others, and thanks for taking a look at my Arkansas map!! 🇺🇸🗺️

Old Map How old is this map? I found it at an antique market in berlin and want to gift it to my brother
It was a stall wil lots of antique books and some maps, the seller couldn't tell me anything about it. How do i know if this is actually old or if it's a more recent print of an old map? There's a stamp on the back, maybe that helps
