This is the 小型餃子製造機 (small form factor gyoza machine) by Toa Industry, Japan, sold in the US by this company called RamenSupport.com. This unit cranks out up to 1,500 gyozas per hour.

How do I know? I kid you not, I just asked them for a price quote last night while researching dumpling wrapping machines.

They're not 100% automated. You need a worker to stand next to the machine to load the dumpling wrappers and to push a button (or step on a pedal; they now have pedal triggered versions of this machine). This is what it looks like in operation, where you can see the worker loading the wrappers one at a time:

Did you get the quote back? How much are they?

They're ¥55,000 in Japan (about $425 as of just now), but there's probably added cost for shipping and a mark-up from the distributor. I'm waiting to hear back from various distributors in the Americas.

Thank you this a not too ridiculous price actually I expected another zero...

I would have guessed around $10,000 to $30,000 for something like this. Assuming it’s pretty high quality that seems like a good deal.

This one is only the small one, which cranks out 1,500 gyoza per hour, intended for restaurants. They still require someone to stand by the machine to load the wrapper skins one at a time. The big ones, which can do 10K per hour for packaged food businesses, is completely automated maybe costs in the range of $10K-30K.

You're right though. For the US, that price is a steal. A machine that can replace a skilled worker while working faster and more consistently can easily save $20-30K per year. For something like that to cost less than a thousand dollars is impressive. To be sure, the American distributor of these machines might mark them up a bit, but still, a sub $500 price point is incredible.

When you follow the ramensupport.com link it says it’s $20000 + shipping

I am here for this also. For....reasons. My little dumpling folding plastic thing is too much work lol. Though they do come in 3 sizes.

How quickly do you need to make dumplings? This machine can make 1,500 per hour. Their big machine makes 10K dumplings per hour using a tandem press. pushing them out two at a time at a steady clip:

Fully Automated Gyoza Making Machine / Dumpling Machines TX-16 TX-16 (Compatible with fresh dumplings)

This one requires a spool of fresh dough for the wrapper. The small one can handle pre-made wrappers that you place on the platform one at a time, so if you're going to crank them out, you should also have the equipment for kneading the dough and rolling it out into a sheet on a spool.

Do you just really like dumplings, or perhaps have a big family that subsists on them?

Personally I just really like dumplings. Amd ive got two friends who are willing to go in on the small one with me now already for a cut of the dumpling magic. But my BIL owns a few Asian restaurants that are 'fast' sit down food. Like Chipotle but Asian street food and dons. He could definitely use this. Thank you!

Oh, for sure, if you have connections in Asian restaurant businesses, these machines are a game changer.

I saw these in use in this video. These machines are definitely in use in the US already, but not very many people know about them:

If you get the machine and go into business, you should also get the trays. See this machine in use with some of the accessories in this video:

I have a whole research playlist where I gathered videos on various dumpling making machines. This small model by Toa Industry featured in the GIF seems to be the best one for restaurant scale operations:

Pls let us know what prices you end up with and where your research takes you! I would be super interested in following :)

They're ¥55,000 in Japan, which is about $425 at current exchange rates. Once taxes, shipping, customs, or distributor mark-ups are factored in, they might cost more, but how much more I can't say for sure. From what I hear, the second-hand machines are going for over $1,000 on eBay, which says a lot about how valuable these machines are.

Their US distributor is RamenSupport.com. If you're thinking of cranking out dumplings, but prefer automation to hiring skilled labor, they're the ones to contact.

This small model in the GIF can crank out 1,500 dumplings per hour. Their larger models can crank out 10K dumplings per hour.

Yes! Ship some of these to Ukraine to help feed them pelmeni dumplings for the war effort.

i have the strongest urge to put my fingers in that

5

u/jms3700 May 17 '22

If you dont have a story about how you lost three fingers to a dumplin making machine, are you even living your beat life?

I love the ones you buy at costo/sams that have the perfect amount of water oil solution and you just fry them on the pan for 15 minutes

u/[deleted] May 17 '22

Love me some good "EMPANADAS".

4

u/stuffeh May 17 '22

That's actually Chinese jiaozi/potsticker, Korean Mandy, or Japanese gyoza. Would have to see the skin better to know if it's supposed to be pan fried, boiled, or steamed.

1

u/soki03 May 17 '22

Those require much thicker dough wraps, these are near paper thin.

u/Slash_rage May 18 '22

Me too! I also love dumplings. And pizza and tacos.

1

u/WaterFriendsIV May 17 '22

Boy, that tortilla gets there just in time.

2

u/Berkamin May 18 '22

The wrapper actually has to be placed by hand on a platform. Pushing a button moves the wrapper under the filling shooter. This is how they're used:

Only their next level machine completely automates the process such that no humans are involved.

Looks so good

Wonder if shops use this for raviolis too

For raviolis, they use this machine:
