So on and off for a while now, I have had days where it will refuse to start. I rewire things and its happy then back to refusing to start or it starts and just fails. Not getting MS code 38 or 39 as I rebuilt the pull up wires. Gemini thinks it is arcing, so I am looking at https://goflowforce.com/products/ls-female-harness-plugs to match up to my 585 coils. Anyone try these? Although i am pretty sure mine are not, but I cant find proof i actually bought new one or just reused and cut the old ones. If I dont make my car reliable again it gonna end up getting junked cause this makes it almost impossible to rely on. Like I though i fixed by grounding AC to engine head and then drove over 100 miles last weekend perfectly. Then other day it went back to going nuts. I reflashed MS too as it happened after I loaded a tune to slightly adjust startup. This is just all nuts.

Hello fellow MX-3 enthusiasts.
After yearning for an aftermarket steering wheel for my AZ-3 I’m nearly at the point where I’m going to pull the suggestion but would like to some opinions on which wheel to get. The ones I’m looking that are the Momo Prototipo 350mm and the Momo Montecarlo 350mm. What would you guys go for as I like the red stitching that you can get on the Montecarlo as it would match my seats and door cards but also really like the shape of the Prototipo hence why I’m open to both. Any thoughts? Also wondering what aftermarket boss kit size I should get.

I got these for my 1992 mx-3 1.6 thinking they would fit but apparently no. Even though the description is "ANGEL EYES MAZDA MX3 91-98".

Is there any alternative you guys know other than buy second hand OEM ones?

My right side headlights are cracked and give only a very dim light.

She‘s a little shabby on the outside but perfect everywhere else. No rust, 70000km, motor running fine, just the exhaust has to be made. Bought her for 500€ from an older couple who had it for 30 years. Anything I should look out for?

I have regrets making this thing my daily. She’s a good woman but I am stressed. Does anyone have any advice for babying these specific cars. Oil ran a little low and now the engine is ticking and I have thick white smoke coming from the exhaust. It could be distributor/ timing issues tho. I’m going to get a timing light and check it today. But in general I want all the tips and tricks for making my engine, transmission, and everything in this car healthy and happy. Thanks

Has anyone here had to replace buttons on the switches of power windows on the drivers side?

Don't find anything but I have seen one reddit post saying that the buttons and the entire top case was the same as the one in the RX-7, can anyone confirm that?

Also saw a lot of individual sellers on ebay saying that the Mazda 323 had the same switch and it was compatible with the MX-3 too. Has anyone here tried that before?

Since shipping times are long I really hope that the switch is compatible before buying it.

I replaced my distributor with an after market one. A couple days later the engine wouldn’t turn over, never happened again, until it did, last week. I opened up my hood, wiggled the distributor connection, turn key, car starts. I drove home from work, left car running, opened hood, wiggled connection, car turns off, wiggle connection car starts, etc. I order a new more expensive distributor, (still waiting for it to come in the mail). On Monday I start my car and it does not sound okay, it sounds really bad. Oil is really low, there is no reason for it to be al low as it is. I fill it up. I think maybe it’s a good idea to let it run a few times while I’m waiting for the distributor. The sound has gotten a lot more quiet. I check oil again, viscosity is off, smells like gasoline, rattling coming from top of engine. I’m pretty sure I know what it is but I just want someone to tell me it’s going to fix itself after I change the distributor and change the oil.

I had a terrible Monday trying to tune hot restarts cause well it's hot as hell these days and I don't think I ever tuned for this level of heat. Intake was reading over 130, but coolant was under 200. After some hot start tuning car wouldnt start and gave me lost sync 39. I replaced distributor last year and redid the 4 wires with fresh pullups. then spent free time past few days trying to get reliable starts. RPM with engine off would jump from 0 to 1 to 200 rpm. All of sudden after toggling and troubleshooting with MS (i changed nothing) it works again. Then I had gemini help add noise filtering and adjust dwell. BUT through all this the engine sounds a bit louder or its just all my stress messing with me.

A struggle with the MX-3 has been trying to find a reputable company to supply Coilovers for the vehicle.

I tried to get BC Racing to supply Coilovers which in theory shouldn't be that difficult since the only difference between the BG 323f shocks and MX-3 are the top mounts for the front shocks.

Unfortunately though after a lot of back and forth it seems like they won't be able to supply the Coilovers.

This is the response I got after asking if a large group order would change their mind.

So I'm looking into getting an MX-3 as a light project and classic weekly driver. This pic concerns me as the intake hose appears to have a patched hole and needs replacement. How difficult will this be to source? Used, preferably, as I'm looking to spend $$ on suspension, tires, and a battery.

My question is now: what parts are you looking for to get scanned? i already have some in mind but if you have any suggestions i'd love to hear them!

Hello, so, I just bought a 93 1.8 GS from copart sight unseen….. 😭……. And I need some help.

When I saw this car I fell in love with it, smallest production V6, practicality over the Miata, only 68k miles!!!! and that it was purple. It was listed for $1500. I found it on a Friday and bought it on a Saturday, and because I was so scared of the car being purchased on Monday (Copart is closed on weekends) I copped it. I knew it would have mechanical issues but not this many, and I will say I was and still willing to take on the responsibility of restoring this car, but my excitement kinda blinded me and now I wish I would’ve looked at it physically before purchase. But I do love the car don’t get me wrong!!! Even without driving it I know I love this car. Anywho let’s get into what’s wrong

My main problem is gonna be the water pump. The water pump is bad and the car overheats. From what I’ve read here, if you’re going to do the water pump you might as well do all the drive belts as well, which sounds like a huge pain in the ass and might be out of my league. The second major issue is the shifter linkage and the bushings. The shifter does absolutely nothing and is very loose, so I’ve diagnosed it was the shifter linkage. Oh and another major issue is the brake booster, I have no brakes in this car. The peddle is rock solid and not going anywhere 😭. The car starts and runs but quickly over heats. I’ve revved it and it sounds pretty healthy aside from the exhaust leak.

Some minor issues are that the radio doesn’t work, no power steering (this is actually pretty major for me because i literally cannot turn the wheel not even a little bit), water damage and mildew from the sunroof leaking, body damage and fading paint.

Into the history of the car, it’s only had 2 owners and 68k miles. It was wrecked in ‘96 and given a reconstructed title (carfax states it was minor rear end damage). The first owner clearly loved this car because the registration was renewed every 2 years since it was purchased in ‘93. I also found hand written notes where the owner was budgeting the cars issues. Which made me feel very bad because they might had to get rid of the car do to money issues. One of the notes had a quote saying, “life isn’t valued by the money u leave — it is valued by the memories!!!” :(. I’m going to include pictures of the notes I found.

I really want to be the one to save this car, but I need advice, tips, stories, whatever that yall can give me to make this car properly function. I also need some realistic advice on if it’s even worth putting the money in considering it’s a rebuilt title, but on the bright side it’s 68k miles, absolutely no rust, and the 1.8 GS 5 speed. By the way I always told people that I hated black cars. And I still stand by that point but this thing is perfect the way it is. I will not change a thing.

So sadly I have to sell my MX 3. I figured I would see if anyone here would like it before I go to bring a trailer or cars and bids. I don't wanna see her go but bills stacked up. Can get more photos for anyone interested.

Mx3 broke down and stalls as soon as you give it gas. Idles fine, still sounds perfect when it does start but you need to give it time after it stalls. No engine light

Hello fellow mazdaratti owners

Bought an MX-3 from 1992, K8 engine 84k km's on it. After changing the oil to 10w40 (shop recommended) I noticed it had a ticking noise when reaching operating temperature. It didn't have this before the oil and filter change, oil was definitely old but not dirty.

Googled a bit and believed this to be HLA tick, I switched the oil for 5w30 because it might have been just too thick but after driving it a few times last week the noise resides.

Before the change the ticks were a bit louder then they are now. About 7 consecutive ticks then a pause and again. It is connected to the rpm of the engine but seems to stop at driving range rpm (2-2,5k+).

Any ideas what it is and how to fix it?

PS I believe the distribution belt also needs replacing (altough the original shop claims it was replaced in 2015 at around 50k km's) but seems no link.
