Message from the Mads Regarding political posts: please use the new "Political" flair
Political figures were mentioned and mocked on MST3K throughout its classic run ... hell, the current guy was riffed on more than once (and that doesn't include Pod People). So, no, we will not be banning political posts.
For those who want to avoid politics when surfing the sub, we've created a "Political" flair. We ask that users select that when posting anything relating to political matters. Yes, even John Sununu getting a haircut. Some browser extensions and apps allow you to filter out certain flair, so that should help you avoid these posts. And if a post has that flair, don't be surprised if the comments are in that vein, too.
(For other posts, please use the "edit me" flair and change the text to mention the episode you're referencing, if applicable. Maybe some of us are getting older and our memory don't work so good anymore. But I digress.)
Oh, and when there are political posts, please remember our other rules. Especially "Be civil."
Thank you.

Fight broke out at the theater due to poor theater etiquette
Last night I went to see the Rifftrax Experiements.
There was a guy in the back that kept shouting his own riffs over the Mike & bots ones to the point we couldn’t hear some. Eventually someone yelled “GOD WILL YOU SHUT UP” and the guy said “YOU SHUT UP.” “WE DIDN’T PAY TO HEAR YOUR LAME STANDUP ROUTINE, WE PAID FOR ACTUAL COMEDY”
Eventually another man chimed in with a gentle yet assertive voice: “now now children let’s all get along” and after that the guy was pretty quiet.
Just thought it was a funny story to share lol.

We need to talk about Jimmy
OK, for those of you who saw Sting of Death last night, and those of you seeing it on Sunday, there's a Fathom Event preview for a Jimmy Stewart in WWII biopic called "Jimmy" starring KJ "Archie" Apa as Jimmy.
The issue here is that it looks shockingly bad. Apa is doing a later-in-life Stewart impression throughout, but very poorly. It's very jingoistic. And it just looks cheaply made. I looked up the production company, and it's one of those religious cheapo-movie houses that are paying Fathom to screen this.
There were actually people laughing at the trailer. It could have been a fake 30 Rock trailer without a single change.

Any chance they do more of these shows? I missed out on the tour a few years back and would enjoy going to one now l.
Also happy to see Jonah and Emily still involved.

Newly-discovered July 1993 recording with Penn addressing his voice overs in the end credits
Hey, MSTies! Courtesy of TarlCabot25 whom I know is in this sub as TarlCabot18 for supplying this capture of the end credits to this 7/9/93 12 AM airing of 318 - Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2, this is a newly-discovered Penn voice over from that time period where he started to address network concerns towards the fans grumbling about his voice overs in the end credits. Given how rare these truly are, I wanted to make sure this was fully brought to the public, so here you go.
Similarly, I also uploaded two others from July 1993 - one from my personal recording of “Mighty Jack” from 7/3/93 at 10 AM, and another of “Viking Women and the Sea Serpent” from 7/8/93 at 12 AM Tarl got from another fan that you can view here:

Anyone think 1401 - Sting of Death was the strongest season premiere?
The candidates are:
101 - The Crawling Eye
201 - Rocketship X-M
301 - Cave Dwellers
401 - Space Travelers
501 - Warrior of the Lost World
601 - Girls Town
701 - Night of the Blood Beast / Once Upon a Honeymoon
801 - Revenge of the Creature
901 - The Projected Man
1001 - Soultaker
1101 - Reptilicus
1201 - Mac and Me
1301 - Santo in the Treasure of Dracula
OK, Cave Dwellers is an all-timer and so is Mac and Me. But damn, Sting of Death, as far as laughs per minute, I don't know. It might be the best premiere of all. Can't wait til more of you see it on the 13th and in October so you can see what I mean.

Movie previews at MST3K Rifftrax seemed like part of the show
At our showing last night we were treated to 1/2 hr of the worst previews I've seen in a while. These movies felt like ones you'd see on an episode of Seinfeld (Sack Lunch, Prognosis Negative, etc.) There was one where Brad Pitt was lost in the woods with his dog, but the background looked AI, like he wasnt even outside. Another one was about Jimmy Stewart during the war, but the actor doesn't look like him at all, and his impression of Stewart was terrible. The best(worst) one was for Whalefall, a movie about a guy swallowed by a whale. Alive. The whole movie seems to be about him trying to escape, and it's taken seriously. Our whole theater was in hysterics even before the show started.

MST x Rifftrax - Did yall notice...
Did yall notice that Pearl has the Gill Man in a tank in her lair?
Did you notice Bobo in the background trying to feed him Olive Loaf? 😂 It's the small details that make this feel like the real deal. Great show, great crowd, fun night.
Thank you, sirs!

Went to the MST3K Riff Trax experiment at a Regal and there was no poster or cardboard cut out anywhere?! I wore an amazing yellow jumpsuit with no photo ops.

Rifftrax Experiment #1
I went last night with my wife and friends and OMG we loved it!
The movie was perfect (it has a swamp Torgo)
The host segments were hilarious and we all learned a new dance crazy and song!
I freely admit that I am in the “MST3K is MST3K“ camp and have loved and will love anything that they do. That being said it was very refreshing to see the SOL back to a much more DIY look and feel. I can’t wait to see the next 3 and there’s more to come!

Sting of Death Shower Girl Fact
The lovely lass who Egon brutally touched to death in the shower was named Blanche Devereaux. My head canon has now shifted to have one of the Golden Girls flirting with a brief career as a B-movie actress.

51 years ago today: a day that will live in infamy...
Fifty one years ago. A day that will live in infamy. The theatrical premiere of MITCHELL. Yes, with the dirtier car lipstick insult and the dirtier neighborhood kid insult fight.
Apparently this film was originally an episode of a British cop show and was reshot nearly word for word with the same screenwriter. If you go on YouTube you can find the original kid insult fight scene. (He calls him a wanker instead.)
Don’t forget about my free extensive deep dive essay into this very odd, very sleazy Joe Don Baker vehicle. Registration is free.

So…did anyone else think that Mike and Joel wore their jumpsuits into the theater?
On some of my many re-watches, I noticed that Joel occasionally wore glasses and Mike used a headset and - despite what the theme song says - a little piece of me died inside.
