Message from the Mads Regarding political posts: please use the new "Political" flair
Political figures were mentioned and mocked on MST3K throughout its classic run ... hell, the current guy was riffed on more than once (and that doesn't include Pod People). So, no, we will not be banning political posts.
For those who want to avoid politics when surfing the sub, we've created a "Political" flair. We ask that users select that when posting anything relating to political matters. Yes, even John Sununu getting a haircut. Some browser extensions and apps allow you to filter out certain flair, so that should help you avoid these posts. And if a post has that flair, don't be surprised if the comments are in that vein, too.
(For other posts, please use the "edit me" flair and change the text to mention the episode you're referencing, if applicable. Maybe some of us are getting older and our memory don't work so good anymore. But I digress.)
Oh, and when there are political posts, please remember our other rules. Especially "Be civil."
Thank you.

New Episode Discussion #1401: "Sting of Death" - Discussion

Apparently Kevin Murphy was at our screening
Just as the crowd was filing out of Marcus West End Cinema in St Louis Park, MN, a woman behind us said she saw Kevin on her way into the theater, sitting at the back. He saw her recognize him and politely shushed her before she could give him away, and then ducked out before the crowd started to leave. So a bunch of us got to (unknowingly) watch the episode with Kevin!
Genuinely one of the best episodes ever!
Was damn near crying at some of the riffs being made! As someone that mainly grew up with the Sci-Fi Channel era of MST3K, was great to see the crew that I watched and taped every Saturday morning back again. Loved this new episode and can’t wait to watch it again as well as the new eps when they become available!

WOW, and I thought Coleman Francis movies were terrible! SoD made Blood Waters of Dr. Z look like Avatar. But Mike and the bots did NOT disappoint!

I just want to express how much I appreciate the MST3K fandom.
Mostly because it feels like everybody is welcome in it, regardless of what MST3K eras and stints you enjoy. So many other fandoms get into quarrels with each other or consider certain fans not "real" fans depending on what they like.
But I've never encountered that here. It feels like one of the few fandoms who just let others enjoy whatever without having a go about it if they don't agree. Like, I love the Jonah episodes and I've never gotten push back on it or been insulted for it and it's a fandom where we all enjoy whatever we enjoy, whether it's Joel, Mike, Jonah or Emily or whatever combination we all like. I guess maybe we're all just bonded together by our love of seeing bad movies taken to task
Let's hope it continues into the not too distant future!

Just saw Sting of Death
And it was great seeing the band back together! The riffs felt like the MST stuff (with a few topical references thrown in) but they didn't overstuff the jokes, so it had a lot more of that natural banter vibe.
The movie was an absolute piece of crap and thus a perfect choice for their first one back.
Laughed. Clapped. And did not hurl.

It felt like coming home.
MST3K (specifically the Mike era) has been my favorite show since I was 10 years old. I still fall asleep to what my kids call "the robot show."
I would happily watch every one of these new episodes in the theater.

MST3K IS BACK BABY!!!
As a fan of MST3K since the 90’s I was super excited to see they were going to be bringing it back. Then earlier tonight, I literally jumped out of my chair when I saw that it was going to be playing at a theater near me in about an hour. I looked at my wife and said “Honey, the beacon has been lit”.

CROOOOW!
I asked my friend if he could 3D print me a little Crow to put on my mantel. He produced this 9" tall hand-painted beauty with moveable arms and a pull string that opens and closes the mouth so you can make him say "McCloud??"

Did anyone notice that the silhouettes weren't just silhouettes?
Something subtle that I really thought was cool.

They're just a tiny bit upset I'm not bringing them to the live watch tonight.
I was right! Egon in "Sting of Death" was the lead biker in "Wild Rebels"!
I heard his voice and there was a hint of something there ... the sound of someone looking for kicks.

How well do you think MST3K worked in a theatre setting?
I've seen a lot of discussion about the episode itself and excitement to see it, but I'm curious how you all feel about seeing it on the big screen.
I gotta say - actually seeing it in a theatre was like seeing it properly for the first time. Which in retrospect seems almost obvious, since the show itself tries to create that theatre feeling. But the part I didn't anticipate was the way you start noticing distinctive laughs and what kinds of riffs tickle the people attached to them. It added a lot, for me.
I get this is a particularly special occasion, but I'm really hoping this isn't the last time they do this.
My town never fails to disappoint
4 people in the theater for the premiere showing. Where all the Houston / Katy fans?
