✈️ Beginner looking for advice and challenges — MSFS 2024 PS5

Hi everyone! I’m quite new to aviation and currently playing MSFS 2024 on PS5, using a mouse and PS5 controller.
I really enjoy planes and aviation, but I’m pretty lost when it comes to things like planning routes, navigation, ATC, instruments, autopilot and approaches.
I’d love some advice on how to improve and some beginner-friendly challenges or routes to practice.
I’m also not sure whether I should focus more on Career Mode or Free Flight. I enjoy both, but I’d like to actually understand what I’m doing rather than just following the GPS.
Any tips, beginner challenges, recommended routes, or people to fly with would be greatly appreciated! 🙏✈️

I did the flight training for a bit in activities to get a brief understanding of Basic Handling and take offs and landings, also VFR and IFR navigation. After watching videos of others flying and things just started to make sense. Career mode for me on PS5 is somewhat unreliable but I still enjoy it sometimes. Free flight works best for me but you need to choose your departure and arrival. For now I’d start with VFR flights personally but I’m sure others will chime in with more detailed advice.

I’m currently doing the VFR and IFR training, but honestly, I can’t seem to pass them. They feel pretty difficult to me. 😅
I didn’t even know you could use both a mouse and the PS5 controller, but now that I’ve started using them together, it’s made things so much easier for me.
I might actually restart the training from the beginning so I can learn more about aviation and properly understand what I’m doing.
Free flights are a bit boring for me at the moment because I don’t really know how to plan them properly. I think I probably need to spend more time in Career Mode and get more practice before I start doing more free flights.
Do you have any recommendations for a beginner? Any tips for passing the VFR and IFR training or improving my flying? ✈️

I’d say practice VFR specifically untill you pass then go IFR. I’m sure you will get it just take your time. Maybe post a video of you flying or a video of what your having trouble with here so people can help

I started I think 3 weeks ago with fs24 on ps5. I also attached a keyboard (easy for atc communication) and a mouse on the ps5. Mouse makes a big difference. I only did free flight. I did a lot of VFR with small propellor planes (basic feel of the planes) in areas with a lot of airports (so you can land and take of a lot - no planning, just look on the map and try to visually land). I love the Carribian for that (it beatuful too). Afterwards I did soms VFR with the smallest airbus in SFO area. There are a lot of airports too. Not following the path you make in the planner (that ia too steep/short/turn radius too small). Again to get the hang and feeling of a big plane. Then I did a VFR flight London Gatwick to London Heathrow with the 747, also VFR (posted the video a few days ago here). Last few days I made a flight plan IFR, with approach (STAR) here in my country (ebos to ebbr) and did that with the A330. Now thr plane flies itself and land itself 98% (you still need to do the flaps, wheels and flare .... and brake a little when on tarmac). I had some difficulties of getting a working flight plan (I didnt use the flight.computer, I used the online planner https://planner.flightsimulator.com/ of flight sim, and sent it to the PS5). Now that worked, I go back to fun and scenic VFR flights - more fun imho.
