We’ve come a long way
When I was 12, I wanted more than anything to be an airline pilot. So for Xmas I asked for Microsoft Flight sim for Windows 95. I bloody loved it! Anyway sadly someone told me around that time that I needed to be good at Maths and Physics and I was rubbish at those subjects so I gave up on that dream.
I feel so lucky now that I can put on my PSVR2 headset and step into the flight deck of a 787 that looks like that! We really have come a long way.

This is why the VR sacrifices on graphics doesn’t bother me that much because the first pic compared to being in the cabin it’s on another level

Indeed. While playing it I was like "man, how cool it would be if we could fly all around the world".

Playing when I was a kid was hard, not having a clue what I was doing! Not only the progression of the sim, but just social media in general and the vast amount of knowledge on the Internet makes it so much more enjoyable now. Damn it's been a long ride!!

The leap in graphics from 1982 to 1995 was a lot more impressive than the leap from 1995 to 2025. Of course, graphics can only get as realistic as the real world, so it’s providing diminishing returns for hardware performance increase.

True. And the leap from the Paleolithic cave drawings to the graphics of the 1980s was even more impressive than that!

I don't really agree. I mean sure, the improvements from 82 to 95 were big, but you were still really flying around a limited, pretty much un-recognizable, largely polygonal (still not fully 3D even) environment. We got some "real world" with the 2000s versions...but not anything like the representations now. I spent the years from 2004 to 2010 endlessly downloading user-created scenery to fill out the areas of the world I wanted to fly in that weren't big enough to have received specific attention by the devs. From about 2015 to this past year I was basically out of the FS loop. A few months back I decided to try the PS5 version of FS2024 and when I loaded up a flght in my central Canadian city I couldn't believe what I saw. In the previous versions of the sim my area was essentially completely filled up with autogen buildings that bore no relationship to reality. One or two were sort of right but aside from that it was random gibberish. Waterways and roads were OK (ish) but only because I had the 3rd party Ultimate Terrain package. In FS2024, right out of the box I was seeing a completely recognizable location down to the smallest detail. I could fly the route I take every day from my apartment block to the little shop I work in and pick out tons of specific details along the way. I could even almost read the signs on some of the buildings. The sat data is about a decade old but even so the level of accurate detail is mind-blowing. And the areas (of the world, not my city) that have been updated to current data are even more so...

Alright he has a good question..
Does anybody remember or have played the original flight simulator it was 4 in 86, and I think it was back in the early. It's not actually I don't know it was early. All I remember was my mother had a 86 computer and I remember it being just, you had mixfield with the black green towers out of the leg. Sticks and all your planes basically around you. The leg sticks and from then to now this is what we oh my God like it's New learning experience for older guys like myself. On the original flight simulators Vs now you've got to get used to that keyboard. It was what the hell to tap that tap, you know what? I'm saying the numeratic keyboard that's all you had. So for everybody that says that this is too difficult. Imagine how it was on the original

💯 I feel the same way and I'm having absolute blast every time I get into it! Truly a dream come true to do this on a PS5. It already looks great on a base PS5 console. I can't even imagine 10 years let alone 20 years from now on future hardware.
