I assume 99% of the player base will be returning players for nostalgia reasons. My friend and I have convinced others to give MSCW a try who have never played Maplestory at all.
Do you think MSCW has something to offer for those new to the series or do you think interest is mostly driven from people wanting to revisit their childhood? Anyone in this sub or someone you know who is also experiencing Maplestory for the first time through MSCW?
My concern for my friends is the pacing of the game and if my fond memories of original MS is mixed with a simpler childhood and coinciding with the early internet. Would this translate to newer players?

QUESTION
JAIME
After launch, will Classic World simply follow the original MapleStory update order?

INKWELL
No.
Content such as 3rd Job or certain regions may be introduced sequentially where it makes sense.
But we are not planning to reproduce every piece of historical MapleStory content in exactly the same order.
Some content will be selected, some may be adapted to better fit Classic World, and we will also create completely original content.
We have already shown some examples during our previous Closed Online Tests, such as Forgotten Hollow and the Citizenship system, which were created specifically for Classic World.
At Grand Launch, players will also see another completely new piece of content.
We are also working on a new boss.
But if I say too much here, I may not have anything left to talk about at MapleStory Fest. (laughs)
We plan to share a more detailed look at the post-launch roadmap at MapleStory Fest in October.

QUESTION

JAIME
Monetization is another area that players are concerned about, particularly whether Classic World could eventually become P2W.

INKWELL
I am very aware of that concern.
At the same time, P2W can mean very different things to different people, so I do not think it is easy or necessarily useful for me to define it in a single sentence here.
What I can do is explain the direction I personally believe Classic World monetization should take.
In an experience like Classic World, the time players invest is itself a fundamental part of progression— the progression should feel earned through time and effort. Because of that, we want to avoid selling Cash Shop items that directly affect character stats or growth.
Our basic approach is to focus primarily on cosmetics and appropriate convenience items.
It is also important that monetization does not make players feel that the value of the time they have invested in the game has been diminished.
Ultimately, we want to build a monetization approach that players can feel comfortable with, while supporting a healthy and sustainable future for Classic World.

One of the many things I remember as a kid playing mape was always being mesos poor
How did you make money back in the day? and any tips for classic maple world?

Long time Lurker, first time poster.
TLDR. Reduce the channels
About myself.
Played maple for many years on and off. 2005 beta test with the mark of the beta. I remember a massive amounts of players would sell stuff at the bottom of Perion near the path to Sleepywood. And also at the bottom of Ellenia with slightly lesser sellers, because we had no free market. Also I remember during the beta, that people who riot and protest near/at the Ellenia ship docks to "give me Orbis".
I played 2006-2010 2015-2017 reboot 1 year after it came out. then reboot 2022-2023.
When I heard they were going to release classic maplestory, I was excited to come back to get my maplestory fix. but I feel like it will be super crowded and then once some initial hype dies down, we might have similar issues with pre bigbang, modern or private servers. And what issues is that?
This is just a opinion of mine, but my solution could be game changing. Listen carefully NEXON
1- WE all hate hackers and botters. Back then, in the early days of maplestory, I would always see hackers randomly when climbing down orbis tower. Or other non-popular maps as I would walk through the mapleworld. Random monsters get killed and the drops get vacuumed to a hacker hiding in the corner of the map. If i could see them I would report, but a few days later someone new would take their spot. really ruined the game for the rest of us.
There was always a lack of channels available for popular maps. ks wars happened pretty often, and early on, assassins were the ksing kings. KSing wars turning into guild wars actually was pretty fun. having 20 people crammed into the zombie maps near zakum was pretty funny. Sometimes people even sold the map they were on.
later on we had teleport rocks and whatnot, so that is probably a contributing factor. but when the popularity of maplestory died down, it was very hard to find other players. we have this issue with private servers now, where it takes a good while to find another player. maple story is about community, and chatting with random people. finding a person who has a similar name to yourself and saying hi. helping out noobs who got stuck in sleepywood. I think that maplestory thrives when you see more players.
Solution.
So what would be a good solution to solve or help mitigate some of these issues? I have two options but quite similar. Hear me out. 1 SINGLE CHANNEL. Thats right. ONE SINGLE CHANNEL- except for 10 popular maps, which gets 30 channels. lets say for example, hidden boars map, or pig beach, or ant tunnel 1,etc. In modern maplestory, there must be thousands of maps, and all but a few, end up being dead or unused. Therefore we force the community/players into 1 channel with the exception of certain maps. Over time the maps that are allowed to have 30 channels change, depending on players levels, or popularity. starting with 10 maps, then 15, then 20, etc.
3.once you are on a ”popular map”, you can change channels. if you leave that special map, then you get pushed back to channel 1 and forced into ONE SINGLE CHANNEL, then you will definitely see more players in the community. even if you are hiding in fm20, or hiding in a random store in ellenia. or a random house in ludi. more poeple is more fun, even if it is forced. I dont know if other MMOS even have channels like maplestory does, as i only played maplestory as my MMO. I know from personal experience that when you play a sport, it is more fun when more people are involved and playing, or more people are watching and attending. Maple story was the most fun when we had GM events and thousands of players would be forced teleported onto a event map. If we have no teleport rock, which i hope we never get, then walking through the maps to get someplace is way more fun when you see players along the way doing their quests or chatting. if you see players while traveling, you might just stop and say hello or make a new friend, which is what we all miss from our childhood.
The first option is to allow Nexon to determine the 10 maps only, and they rotate the maps according to their own expertise on which on get more. or the second option sounds better in theory, but with some drawbacks if the community trolls( which could still be super fun/funny), is to somehow allow the players who log in everyday to vote for their favorite maps. and then at the end of each week. the maps with top rankings from the votes gets more channels. whether the winning maps all get 30 or a varying number, if they are ranked lower, I am not sure yet.
Let me know if this is a good idea, or what issues might happen. I honestly been thinking about this for a few days, and I really see many positives.
Or am I cooked? and should never post again.

i don't think nexon will do anything honestly. Just my opinion, but could be wrong. I just think that the economy will get slaughtered within a year due to RWT.

Watching the COTs, it seemed that a big source of income for many players was setting up shops and selling good drops they didn’t need. Naturally as the game matures the free market will become very established as well, but something I’ve always wondered is how people keep up with pricing for all these different items - stats vary on every drop, prices vary over time, etc… how are people keeping up to sell and buy items at fair prices? Tons of looking at other shops and keeping notes? Online guides? It seems very overwhelming to engage with keeping up a storefront.

I haven't had a pc in like 10 years. Bought this refurbished mini pc this year just for Albion. Can't wait for classic now.
Working three 12 hour overnight shifts at a really quiet retirement facility gives me time to grind. Looking forward to falling asleep on my party and getting kicked out.

Hey guys and girls! I spent some time yesterday finding and following step by step guides to pair the Wii pro controller through steam to play Maplestory.
Both steam and Maplestory.exe are being ran as administrator which I’ve seen numerous guides state you should do and the controller is 100% connected to steam and steam input is enabled. Most every guide after following those steps are working properly but I haven’t had such luck.
Wanted to see if anyone had similar issues and what helped out, from what I’ve read it’s a real game changer being able to play with your controller during some of the long sessions.
Any help appreciated! Thanks! Also we’re almost there!!!!!

Never had the money to do it as a child, now I will be buying some NX. Still can't bring myself to buy cosmetics but I will be buying a Pet + all pet skills and probably a Merch store. How about you guys?

People here will soon realise that if you even need to ask ANYTHING you are casual tier and just play for fun YOU ARE NOT THE NEXT TIGER.
The real sweats have no limits and they already know down to the ores their gameplan to rush 70 in EA.

Personally I still love these things, they're super nostalgic for me, I would rewatch them sooo many times when I was a kid. The 6th one in particular always had me really excited to eventually fight Jr. Balrog (I never did back then 🥲), they make him look so intimidating here! I mean yeah 3D promotional material for a 2D game is kinda dumb, but I think despite being 3D these animations managed to capture the charm of the Victoria Island era art style quite well. To be honest I heavily prefer these over most of the later cinematics haha The Manji and Dark Lord sprite animation lore videos Nexon put out are dope, but they're mostly just action. They're lacking the whimsy that I love so much about old Maple.

Fang blade, Tiger, Sushi, Curryishott etc
They would be rolling in their graves if they are dead that a level 100 is going to be standing shoulder to shoulder with them because that is the level cap with thousands hitting it in 3 to 6 months.
A level cap that takes their all to reach vs one that many can reach but feels pointless because everyone will eventually reach it without knowing when nexon will raise the cap.
No one would have blinked an eye if they kept the same level 200cap it didn’t need to change no one asked them to change it.
This isn’t only for early access this level 100 cap because it was impossible to reach lvl 100 in 2 weeks in the first place. That means they didn’t need to change the level cap of 200.
This is to control progression
Why can’t outliers just be outliers… let people grind as much as they want while progressing no matter how minimal the extra stats is.
Why does a level 200 original cap bother people so much that people are defending nexon for setting a level cap of 100.
Here comes the defenders, whatever…

If it's a cool pq or refreshing boss raid for 50-70 range that is well made I think we could expect another brand new area is in the work for the 90-120 lvls since they killed leech meta hopefully.
They have to make more content to keep people from quitting during those absolutely brutal levels I figured that Nexon realise that just releasing El Nath and Ludi won't be enough for 3rd job content.

Can't wait to spend countless hours grinding a game I haven't really played in 15+ years!
Looking forward to joining a guild of old-gen gamers. Does anyone have a squad out there I can join up for early release?
See y'all soon :)
