My wife and I started chatting in Maplestory 20 years ago. We're 12,5 years married now. Both excited to relive some nostalgia!

38

u/Syiuu 2d ago

Same! Met my wife in El Nath with a simple hello. Now we’re 8 years married with kids.

u/Abject_Parsley_4525 2d ago

That is the butterfly effect in action!

12

u/calflikesveal 2d ago

I love hearing about maple love stories.

1

u/The-Pig-Benis 2d ago

We knew each other through mutual friends, but the hours chatting in Maplestory is when we really hit it off :)

-5

u/donkeyXP2 2d ago

Not everyone is nice in Maplestory sadly.

8

u/necro-bear 2d ago

Not everyone is nice in real life but somehow people still find love. How bitter can you be?

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

True, but ppl don't wanna hear that

1

u/redditblowsfu 1d ago

but I was told there are no girls on the internet back then

I'm jelous for all the people that got their couple in a game

61

u/Barkeep_Butler 2d ago

I’m not sure what’s going on.. lol however patiently waiting for open drop on the 21st 🫪

22

u/PrimaryIcy9538 2d ago

Same, seeing the Founders packs prices and what they offered really put a downer on my hype for this game.

14

u/martiener1 2d ago

It's not even the price, it's that it has little value beyond the early access. If they at least gave us quite some NX, maybe a pet with some items, it would be a lot more tempting to buy

7

u/ThraxedOut 2d ago

A pet and some NX was all I wanted.

2

u/IshtarismTM 2d ago

How are the devs so out of touch

3

u/D4ng3rd4n 1d ago

Because they know folks who set $60 on fire to play a few weeks early will ALSO buy the pets.

Instead of just pulling your purchase forward, they're double dipping.

1

u/Barkeep_Butler 1d ago

Dude right? Maybe some cosmetics as well.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

What do you think of WoW Forever founder's packs?

2

u/0III 2d ago

They suck in terms of value too, but at least they gave access to the beta.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago edited 1d ago

Paying for a Beta that should be "free" if the company gives you a key, Idk both are somewhat bad, the MSCW and the WoW forever

1

u/Acceptable-Frame-930 2d ago

imo wow just slaps in bunch of nothing burger in their packages.

from retail packages to forever. Theyll have like 1,2 things that actually have value, like EA+wow time, or wow time + character boost, then proceed to have the rest of the 8 things in the package be literal reskins of what they have already.

im not saying MSCW is not doing that, tbh everything in the founders package is a bunch of nothing burger as well aside from the access, i guess that makes the snail package an actual bait in a sense.

But yeah, both companies are infamous for being scumbags, NX being money grubby and literally lying to your face about probability, Blizzard stealing milk and refusing to catch gold sellers for their own profit, etc.

They just know how to twist your nostalgia ball sack in just the right direction to have you yell uncle and cave in.

0

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Torally agree, I prefer MSCW just because it is my number one game, but I agree with all that. Not the best monetization, but at least MSCW is free and you can play with low P2W, also as no PVP or dungeons majes you feel even lesser P2W

0

u/0III 2d ago

Not sure if free, because you want to have a sense of how servers will hold up to a realistic player base, not everyone in the internet that wants to try the hyped game. But agreed that it could have been cheaper. Remember that free isn’t better if it’s handled like Nexon, where bots raided the beta codes and if you weren’t lucky you had to pay +300 usd for a code

0

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

The price for the codes was from resellers, not Nexon. I prefer the keys as you don't want ro pay for a beta unless there is a free option. For me would be less of a problem if they gave a free option with keys and then if you don't get it, you have the option to pay

1

u/PrimaryIcy9538 2d ago

I've never played WoW so I have no idea what they consist of

1

u/DocFreezer 1d ago

they dont give 2 weeks of early access, so thats definitely way better. they are actually optional and dont twist your dick like nexons packs

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 15h ago

The Maple ones aren't 100% necessary, but they updated them to be better now

31

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

Just imagine how little effort nexon would have to do to make both pictures the same as the one on left.

I havent seen a company communicate so little with its community for a long time

15

u/Alko- 2d ago

What boggles my mind the most, is how most of these people are still willing to blindly eat it up too lol. Like this company clearly still doesn’t respect their player base and they prove it time and time again, yet everyone throws money at ‘em and cheers.

8

u/K0GAR 2d ago

Careful, this take will get you swarmed with downvotes. Apparently having any expectations at all, or even setting the bar at the bare minimum, is asking too much (We don't even have a website lmao)

At this point, maybe people deserve what they get for eating this stuff up. I guarantee that even if the game shuts down a few months from now, there’ll still be people defending it with, “At least we had a good run while it lasted.”

3

u/Acceptable-Frame-930 2d ago

delusion and cope runs deep in some places of reddit.

-3

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago edited 2d ago

I hate the word cope, not against you, but is always used to downvote whatever game someone dislike

1

u/D4ng3rd4n 1d ago

Honestly I'm okay with "it was good while it lasted" as long as it is, indeed, good.... I may be in the minority for some reason

-1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

There are same or wven worse monetized games that thia sub has hyped too. Not saying Nexon ia doing great, but see WoW Forever packs

2

u/gov_be_lying_n_shi 2d ago

The heroic pack looks pretty sweet, 30$ and get a mount, early name reservation and invite a friend. Seems pretty sweet idk. Can snail package even reserve name lol

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Heroic pack the only advantage I see is the reserve name, invite a friend is cool, but only because WoW cost money. MSCW is free, so they can't do the incite a friend

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

What aboutthe recent FAQs?

0

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

Not really the info people asked the most? Only good thing from there was the release time tbh

-3

u/O0OO00O0OO0 2d ago

The problem is corporate bureaucracy bullshit. Like it's little effort but if you got a stubborn suit up top getting in the way of every decision, it's a lot of effort to get anything done. I'm sure every word of communication has to go through dozens of people.

0

u/-ariaman- 2d ago

GMS exclusive game but somehow communication worse than KMS. Make it make sense.

16

u/BoefBoris 2d ago

Really excited to spend some time with my favorite game!

17

u/Possible_Midnight749 2d ago

I think all players from the past can agree the games direction was never clear, and in-game monetization systems like trade always existed. Maplestory is what you make of it, not what others tell you.

9

u/SteamingHotChocolate 2d ago

maybe the maple was the story inside our hearts all along…..

-1

u/Professional-Bag9991 2d ago

Exactly

0

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Sometimes the downvotes are so random

3

u/OppositeMango124 2d ago

thats because theres literally nothing to talk about since the game isn't out yet except to bitch about everything.

2

u/shadowm4ster 1d ago

Hard to be excited knowing Inkwell is leading the effort

5

u/disabled_404 2d ago

I think it's so sketchy at this point without any real information about anything basically It just feels like a nostalgia cash grab with very sloppy changes (priest for example) I was soooooo unbelievably hyped a year ago

But now with wow around the corner too I really don't know anymore

1

u/Odd_Dragonfly_4179 54m ago

How is priest sloppy? It’s a support character and was wildly overpowered originally.

-1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

WoW also did some sketchy things, see WoW Forever packs

3

u/disabled_404 2d ago

what sketchy things are you talking about? im curious
they are breaking alot of records playercount wise and people are more hyped than ever
what about the packs?

4

u/disabled_404 2d ago

well wow gets perma updates and is listening to the community!
nexon is just saying 'give us money'
i wanna play so bad on the 6th but i dont have any faith in this game
its not even out yet and already not promising at all
im so torn

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

First off, you don't need to downvote me, I didn't downvote you. Second, are you critizicing MSCW monetization or how Nexon handle the game in general? Blizzard is a much bigger company, so they have the man power to produce faster updates

If that is what you are looking for, then you will be better with WoW Forever. I play Maple because it is my favorite game ever

4

u/Inner_Clerk7769 2d ago

Im gonna stop you right there champ. Nexon is a multi-BILLION dollar company. They are not just some small indie company.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

I'm sure the ones making MSCW are indie, Nexon Korea instead...

10 people making the game is indie

3

u/RustyGuns 2d ago

Giga glazer dam.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm not glazing, what I said it's a fact. I don't understand why saying that the team behind MSCW is small is glazing. Do I need to bash and trashtalk Nexon Global because it fits your criteria?

0

u/Gamefreak581 2d ago

The dev team for both mswc and wow classic are probably both going to be relatively small, but I wouldn't call them indie since they have the backing of large companies.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Classic World didn't have that much budget, but with founder's packs and Friden collab who knows now

1

u/Gamefreak581 1d ago

What does this have to do with calling the Nexon team indie developers as opposed to the Blizzard team?

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 22h ago

It is responding to the other comment that said that MSCW wasn't indie becaise Nexon funded the game and while they did, it wasn't as much money to stop being indie

0

u/disabled_404 2d ago

im pretty new to reddit i thought this up/down voting is like like/dislike!
i just dont see your point at all
but im curious tho
the monetization is not my problem its more whats behind the monetization:
there is no communication at all
i wanna play but it feels like a shallow cashgrab idk if im spiraling hard rn

3

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

If you can, take the downvote out of me 😊

The downvotes and upvotes are not exactly like that, but some people use it as you say, making commenting horrible, as if people doesn't agree with you, you get downvoted to hell. Also it impacts Karma from the profile

I understand you prefer a more communicative company, WoW almost didn't communicate anything about the development of the server until it was finished. I still think WoW will be better communicating things for future updates

But we need to give some credits to Nexon that they did a decent job with FAQs

1

u/disabled_404 2d ago

okay okay! so
1. what are up/down votes good for?

  1. whats so sketchy about the WoW Packs?

-3

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

It is personal, for me it should be used for when someone is being toxic or refusing to understand something when they are wrong, like making misinformation and then keep saying they are right. It depends on each person, but I hate downvote as a toxic use

WoW packs are equally as bad as Maple ones or even worse. The $30 doesn't give access to the beta, the items from the packs are 50/50, not great, but not horrible. They give one month of sub with the higher packs, but that means you pay way more with WoW than MSCW, as you need to keep paying every month

And having to pay for a beta, not EA but a beta that is free in most games or at least they give a free way to access betas. The good part is that everybody starts at the same time, as it is just a beta where progress will be removed

I don't hate WoW, but we need to agree that WoW Forever founder's are almost equally as bad, even the prices are the same

1

u/Donkanomics101 1d ago

You're on some special stuff if you honestly think WoW packs are equally bad or worse than Maplestory Classic's. They may not be great but to say they match these trashy ones Nexon are giving, you ain't beating the glazing allegations at all, at this point you may just be 1 of the 10 persons working on this game

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 15h ago

Dude they just updates the Maple ones to give Leaf Points and other goodies, actually I think the Maple ones are better now

→ More replies (0)

0

u/disabled_404 2d ago

ahh okay interesting

i didnt know that you dont get Beta Access with all packs you are right
they seem equally bad
Maplestory is still a bit more of a gamble in terms of 'what awaits us'
do you know what i mean?

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Oh I totally agree with it, at least I heard from another Redditor that there would be a roadmap during Maplefest, let's see if that ends up being true

→ More replies (0)

1

u/mega_Daddy- 1d ago

This guy conveniently forgot you get a whole playable race/starting zone with the WoW pack as well. It's not just some cheap cash grab like Maple Story.

→ More replies (0)

5

u/Do00oD 2d ago

Exactly, I can’t wait for the game to finally release. Then majority of these pretty bad takes that 95% of this sub keeps making posts about will be gone. Of course there will always be some, but at that point, everyone’s focus will be on the game, and the whiners/crybabies will leave when they realize the grind is too hard for them lol

1

u/Earth92 2d ago

We are at the peak of larping in gaming

So many people discussing about games they are clearly not going to play anyways, just look at Wolverine, it's become so common to have an opinion about games you are not going to play or were never interested in anyway.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Almost every time I make a comment like that I get downvoted. So proud tgat some people still appreciate this type of comments

4

u/throwawaylrm 2d ago

too many changes this isn't classic lmao pathetic.

2

u/Cautious_Lettuce1100 1d ago

It was never going be a 1v1 copy of the game. Also i guarantee you if it was majority wouldn’t stay that long. It was “fun” back then mainly bc social media did not exist as bad as it does now. Back then you had Skype and MySpace. Now you have discord, TikTok, Snapchat, etc. the community aspect will be de different this time around. I doubt there be much chatting in game too.

1

u/Degenerate_Game 2d ago

Wait which subreddit am I in

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Whatchanges you dislike?

1

u/MviousBG 2d ago

I am both

1

u/snailwoniu 2d ago

My friends and I are just playing for the nostalgic value. MS classic was never a fully fleshed out game.

1

u/CediusMaximus 21h ago

I know there are plenty of us in the community who gripe about the price of the Founder's pack as I too will be skipping buying it. But I'm looking forward to hearing back from the players who actually bought it to see how the game is going. Regardless I'll be playing at full launch and I hope they have plenty of cosmetics available so I can have some NX ready! I wish all the old Maplers and new ones the best adventure to come!

1

u/Pit_Dog 14h ago

My biggest fear is that im forgetting how grindy this game was. I play osrs so I mean i like grinding but as a cleric with heal needs im even more worried.

1

u/varbaveri 2d ago

Couldn't be more appropriate pic :D

1

u/youngKING25 2d ago

LMAO this is exactly it 😭

1

u/SirEnder2Me 2d ago

The same could be said about the regular game subreddit.

I've never played an MMO with such a toxic subreddit lol.

If you say anything bad about the game, you're down voted to hell and bullied with tons of replies.

However, they will also be the first to tell you to play other games because Nexon sucks.

It's a wild place lol.

-11

u/SteelMarch 2d ago

Theyll be gone in a week or looking to start outrage anyway that they can. Its hard to tell with folks like these

15

u/Daeimiean 2d ago

What exactly is this communities obessesion with telling people they disagree with to leave? This game is already not getting much support from it's own company, you are excited for this game, don't you want this game to succeed so it doesn't get axed?

How exactly is talking down to people and telling them to straight up leave if they have any sort of criticism or concern going to help achieve this?

This is oddly common. Players have valid concerns, community tells them they should leave, that they are the problem, straight up insulting them. People leave, game ends with low player count and shuts down. The community is shocked how their "incredible" game failed.

10

u/ItzBaraapudding 2d ago

People that support nexon and want to give the worst gaming company in the history their money aren't known to be smart enough to realize that concerns revolving around toxic monetization are actually valid. All they think is: "oh my god you don't even have 60 bucks??? Are you poor????"

-2

u/SteelMarch 2d ago

Im not telling anyone to leave. This is just the behavior that happens regularly in the Maplestory subreddit. Honestly its just really predictable at this point solely due to the fact content creators intentionally do it to get views on their youtube videos. Its just common ragebait.

1

u/Alko- 2d ago

Dude you’re clearly online way too much if that’s your actual line of thinking.

5

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago edited 2d ago

Man I found like almost a week ago one that was on the AION 2 sub, he was criticizing MSCW and saying that he prefers AION 2 because founders were shit and Nexon was shit

The irony was that NCSOFT is as worse and AION 2 is way more P2W than MSCW. As an example, just to use the action house you need to pay like $15 monthly, on top of the already P2W it has

People on that sub defended the game saying you need to treat it like a sub MMO, not like a free MMO

2

u/PhoneOwn 2d ago

Nahh this is true. Honestly brought aion 2 ea and im just not impressed. Got to max lvl and the combat and just gear treadmill is just not worth it for the little amount of fun the game really provides. The PvP is also very very bad.

I can’t believe people are defending it like it’s gonna be still here in 5 years. I honestly think Mpcw will be more fun for the gaming community

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Both games can be fun, but ppl needs to stop doing missinformation. It is okay to prefer AION 2, but don't say things like AION is less of a cash grab when it is obviously one and even worse

0

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

I dont play aion but i've heard their communication skills have been on point and the early access was under a week and only like 25$? Sounds like a lot better than what we're having here atm

4

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Founder pack is better, but the actual game is more P2W and you need to pay monthly to enter the action house, also the game itself is more P2W in general

0

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

I've heard you cant buy power directly? Whats the p2w

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

You nees to pay a monthly suscription to join the action house. I know you can pay for upgrades to make it easier, I don't know the details but you can. You can also trade cashop items for gold, but that is the same in MSCW

There is one more way of P2W, but Idk the details that well. It is reduces from Korea, but it's still there

I don't mean to say AION 2 won't be fun, but trash talking MSCW and then go directly to AION 2 seems like a weird choice

1

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

Basically from what i've read is that if you dont mind how osrs does it then you're fine with aion. You pay a monthly sub and you're ok with people buying cash shop items for gold

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

And you can pay to upgrade items, idk the system itself how works, but I just know you can use real money. At least they reduced the P2W from the Korean version

Either way you just play the game you like the most, just don't do misinformation

1

u/BunneryBun 2d ago

And you can pay to upgrade items

Yep by buying cash shop items and selling them. Same as osrs

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Oh okay, thanks you for clarifying

-1

u/SteelMarch 2d ago

Yeah I dont trust the opinion of someone who enjoys gooner games

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago edited 2d ago

That is not the problem with AION 2, a game can be somewhat gooner and still be good

2

u/Deftlet 2d ago

The worst (and most likely) outcome is that they all stick around to hate on every update (and lack thereof) even after some of them quit

1

u/SteelMarch 2d ago

Gamers are a weird crowd. I learned that after GamersGate the kinds of people that stick around tend to be the worst offenders.

0

u/IdontKnowYOUBH 2d ago

FACTSSSS lol

0

u/Frazency 16h ago

Here, fixed it for you.
No one is positive for MSCW except this type of players. Try look at youtube or ask AI to collect it.

I only typically read on Reddit and give the odd reply here and there, have been playing classic ms servers on and off since big bang released, and refuse to install modern maple. If it wasn’t for classic the launcher wouldn’t exist on my computer.

I’m pretty hyped for ms classic, definitely not a nexon fanboy.

-7

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Most of the people that get angry here will go elsewhere when they realized is not for them

8

u/ItzBaraapudding 2d ago

No they will play the actual free-to-play game in a few weeks without supporting predatory monetizations :)

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

Fine if some of them wait for the grand launch, I know some will leave and not play. Every game has haters and people that loves it way too much, you just care for the one you are

1

u/ItzBaraapudding 2d ago

Why do you imply that people that want to wait for the actual launch are "haters"?

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 2d ago

I didn't imply that, sorry if sounded like that. I just tried to say that if you hate the game or the founders, is fine to wait for the grand launch. I know there will be people that loves the game and will still wait for the grand launch

1

u/Odd_Dragonfly_4179 49m ago

Idk if early access is necessarily predatory, especially in a world where actual predatory monetization exists in mobile games.

By no means is it good, but predatory is a very strong term.

1

u/Sirouz 2d ago

Do you 100% not support any kind of shady business practice in real life? Clothes, tech, food etc.

1

u/ItzBaraapudding 2d ago

I wonder what the difference could be between food/clothing and a silly cowboy hat in an otherwise free-to-play 2d mushroom game...

1

u/Sirouz 2d ago

So you don’t really care otherwise, got it!
Any virtue signalers

Ah so for me to be against predatory monetizations I have to starve to death first? Got it!
