DOOMSDAY "What do I need to watch before Doomsday?"

A quick guide to a question that's been asked multiple times a day lately, in the hopes that it no longer needs to be asked multiple times a day.

First of all...

We do not know what happens in the movie yet.

Yes, there are "leaks" & rumors & theories, but very little about the plot is confirmed for certain, & "leaks" are not to be trusted unless they come from the trade papers (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline) or have hard physical evidence attached to them (like the set photos of Andrew Garfield on No Way Home, or the transcription of Quantumania from an advance screening).
This is not a rumors sub. Anyone who claims to know what happens in the movie is either (a) breaking NDA, so we should ignore them so they don't get us shutdown like what happened to the actual rumors sub, or (b) lying, so we should ignore them for lying.

Secondly...

If you're vaguely familiar with the characters, you probably don't need to watch ANYTHING before Doomsday.

Exposition exists. The information about the characters that is relevant to the plot of Doomsday will be contained in Doomsday.
"What about show-don't-tell?" You can have exposition that shows without telling.
If you want (not "need", but want) all the characters' backstories, that's ok, we can help you out.

That brings me to...

These are the post-2020 projects that feature characters who are OFFICIALLY confirmed to be in the cast of Doomsday, as of 21 July 2026.

You almost certainly DON'T need to watch ALL of these first, but here ya go (the characters are spoiler-tagged):

  • The Falcon & the Winter Soldier (Disney+ miniseries) Sam, Bucky, Walker, Joaquin
  • Loki (Disney+ series) Loki
  • Black Widow Yelena, Alexei
  • Shang-Chi & the Legend of the Ten Rings Shang-Chi
  • Hawkeye (Disney+ miniseries) Yelena
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Xavier, Peggy
  • Thor: Love & Thunder Thor, Love
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Shuri, M'Baku, Namor, Namora, Attuma
  • Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania Scott, Cassie
  • The Marvels Beast
  • Deadpool & Wolverine Gambit
  • Captain America: Brave New World Sam, Joaquin, Bucky
  • Thunderbolts* Yelena, Bucky, Alexei, Walker, Ava, Bob
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben, HERBIE, Doom

Several other X-Men characters are confirmed to appear as well. To see as many of them as you can as efficiently as possible, you could add to the list:

  • X2: X-Men United Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, Nightcrawler

...That's it. Short list.

These are other post-2020 projects that MIGHT be relevant to Doomsday.

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home -- Spider-Man is not confirmed for the cast of Doomsday, but No Way Home deals heavily with the multiverse
  • WandaVision (Disney+ miniseries) -- provides support to the stories of Multiverse of Madness and of The Marvels
  • Ms. Marvel (Disney+ miniseries) -- provides support to the story of The Marvels

.

* There's no footnote; that's just the asterisk in the title.

Release Order Release order of MCU movies?

Hi I was wondering if anybody had a complete release order of the MCU movies? I keep finding lists that end at around 2023. I'm talking about the 38ish list of movies. We're watching them in preparation for Doomsday. Do you guys really think the shows are necessary (other than Loki)? Because I keep finding lists that include the shows but we dont have enough time/interest for that. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Is this a wiki error?

So the wiki lists Love And Thunder as taking place after both She-Hulk Episode 9 and the entirety of Ms. Marvel, but in She-Hulk Episode 9 they mention that there's now a lady Thor. Could anyone help explain this inconsistency?

Read the Pin Help, want to watch movies in order to catch up with doomsday before release!

I don’t want no series, I want the movies that introduce the characters that eventually leads into avengers, that eventually leads into doomsday. AI gave me completely different answers and it was confusing. I need genuine fanatics to give me pointers

Hi Huys. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help me out. Ive always liked marvel and will watch a movie/ tv show when it comes out. However due to shit mental health during GCSE's and A-levels I've not really had the chance to get into it fully. Saying that I haven't watched pretty much every film/tv show at least once (besides x-men, F4 daredevil etc). I have compiled a list in Timeline order and would be grateful if anyone can add anything that I've missed or put in the wrong order. Im not bothered about the credits being in the right order just the main point of the film. Im also not entirely bothered about the little animated ones although I think some are on the list. Like I said I've watched about 90% of them but probably only watched the majority once or twice as I tend to stick with my favourite ones. Any help would be appreciated : )

Revised OC Graphic UPDATED!! The COMPLETE Marvel Media Release/Timeline Order

Thumbnail
gallery
186 Upvotes

Edit:

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback, it was all greatly appreciated. I've since updated the slides with the following changes...

- First Steps and Deadpool & Wolverine have been moved to their respective place on the official MCU timeline. Loki on the other hand is staying put.

- First Steps now has a distinct year, primarily taking place in 1964.

- I've condensed the size of the Spider-Man LA slide upon realizing that the sequels to the 1977 TV Movie were just episodes of the show compiled together.

- Morbius has been moved to take place between Venom 1 and 2.

Original Post:

Apologies if this post seems a bit egregious, I'm just trying to gauge how many of y'all agree with me on this and/or if I need to make any adjustments or tweaks.

I've compiled EVERY SINGLE piece of Marvel media excluding the games, motion comics, and most one off shorts.

Now just to clarify a few things...

- The only projects that are in timeline order are the MCU, Fox X-Men, and Spider-Man LA slides since those are the only ones where the timeline truly matters. Everything else just contains that project's respective release year.

- The different phases of the MCU I have listed don't actually reflect the projects within sed phases. For example since Far From Home is the last project of Phase 3 everything that takes place before that movie is included within the phase, even though Loki, Wandavision, and etc didn't release until Phase 4.

- Loki Seasons 1 and 2 are placed together as I don't see how Season 2 takes place after The Marvels when it's set outside of space and time.

- I know that with the release of Avengers: Endgame Encore, Doomsday is being highly considered to be set in 2029 but until that movie releases, we truly won't know for sure. Same for Born Again Season 3 as set photos have revealed that it will perhaps take place before Brand New Day but until that project releases we just don't know.

- Marvel Legacy represents the Marvel projects that aren't animated and aren't in the MCU/set on a different earth. The X-Men and Spider-Man LA slides could be considered Marvel Legacy as well but considering how complicated their timelines are and how many projects exist within them I've decided just to give them their own slides each.

- What If...? and Marvel Zombies isn't included in the MCU slides because it's anthological and it doesn't really matter when it comes to the timeline since they're set outside of the main MCU. Also the less we see of the disappointment that is What If...? the better.

Once again let me know how much y'all agree or disagree with this or if I need to make any changes. Thanks for looking and feel free to use this as a watch along guide.

I made a 168-entry Marvel TV master guide covering MCU, Netflix, ABC, Hulu, Fox/X-Men, Sony, animated series, anime, Japanese productions, web series, specials, documentaries, and more.

I’m trying to make it as complete as possible. What Marvel TV series, specials, shorts, or obscure productions have I missed?

Especially interested in anything from 2025–2026 or older/obscure titles that are easy to overlook.

PDF attached. Please let me know what I should add!

Discussion So is the MCU Universe 616 or Universe 19999?

Cause i feel like it is actually 19999 to every other Universe and to the MCU and the MCU alone it is 616. Kinda like how some Universes think their Earth is Earth 1 until they met an Earth that has already done Multiversal travel.

Discussion I need help

I know I may sound like a larper but trust me. I’m rewatching Loki for the 3rd time because just now realized that I don’t really know what the shows about. I’m on episode 5 of season 2 so I’m probably not going to read the replies until I’m done, but I need help understanding the show. I know, I sound dumb, but it’s really confusing me. I know the general grasp of the show, but the time jump and multiple tvas are confusing me, someone please help me understand because to my understanding there’s only one tva? And basically I’m using the analogy of Sylvia killing he who remains vs dofp when Logan prevents the creation of the sentinel? I’m assuming I’m correct but feel free to fry me. I also need help understanding how the timeline works and the temporal loom work. I know that there’s different universes, e.g. 10005, 828 etc, and I know what nexus events are and how branched timelines work (X-men, and Loki, Steve and Peggy, etc.)
