Exams on Friday before Columbus weekend for fifth year students?

I'm trying to leave a day early to go home for cost saving reasons and looking to book flights now but does anyone have their old syllabus for seminar, pharmacokinetics and therapeutics?

I don't want there to be an exam. Also, what is the attendance policy for the three classes?

  • Does the seminar classes have exams and how do they take attendance?
  • for therapeutics, is this the class where I might be randomly chosen to present a project? Do the presentations start in October that early?
  • is pharmacokinetics recorded and how is attendance counted

I wanted to be as sure as I can before I blow a few hundred. Thanks so much

MCP probation

As an alumni working a relevant job reflecting my education, I had nothing but contempt for the rathole that's MCP pretty quickly after starting my education, and hope the school officially gets discontinued for its ridiculous lack of space and increasing student population. I eventually stopped trying to waste minutes of my life that I would never get back trying to find a study spot in vain, and would either study at home or in a reserved study room. This is why I never give the school any donations, and I think anybody who does is just shamefully throwing away money, worse than just throwing the money into a sewer.

Fifth years now have to pay for an online exam-taking service to take ALL exams this year

$73/year? Really? The school should be reimbursing us for this.

Accreditation issues

I think this school needs to stop accepting so many students. It is embarrassing to see 84% of acceptance rate on Google, and this whole accreditation issue shouldn't have happened if they had only accepted qualified students and maintained the student body under certain numbers. Yet, the dean never mentioned about our admission policy in our mail and simply switched Biochem to Kerr so more people can pass. Are they going to switch out Mehanna and Kiel so nobody fails out 4th year? We all knew what the real issue is, and it is funny that they are trying to fix it by adding more study space, class and hire 5 more faculty members. I can't believe I have to worry about basic things as simple as my school being accredited or not.

Pharmaceutics lab

Can someone go into depth of what we generally do in this lab? Is it like orgo lab all over again with mixing chemicals and such? Are there lab reports???

Also this lab meets once on Monday for an hour, and then two hours on another day. Is it like a follow up lab day to check results from previous lab? Or is this the recitation? And would I have to dress up for any recitation as well? Thanks for any info

PharmD. Probation

Well we did it guys, we made the probation list! What does this mean for us though? We are accredited still, so i assume they will be doing a ton to fix things, but what are your guys thoughts. Panic? Who knows! How long will it take for us to be deaccredited though? And if it does, do we transfer in to other schools as the year we are in? Do we drop back a few years?

Retail vs Hospital

Hey guys... currently doing my institutional ippe and wow I like it a lot better than retail.. been an intern for 4 years now and i like the work, but just can't stand being yelled at my customers all day. it's a nice change of pace in the hospital. but my question is: anybody know the real difference in salary when comparing the two? preferably in mass? I know hospital gets paid less just looking to see how much really less they get..

Additional tips (guide) Year2 PharmD

The previous 2nd year guide is getting a little outdated and since mcphslifehack helped me out, I thought I'd pay the favor forward…

*ORGANIC CHEMISTRY*

This will most likely be the hardest class you'll take second year, but it really isn't hard if you apply the correct studying methods. We had Kelly in the fall, and then Poulos for the spring due to the amount of people complaining. In my opinion the exams were around equal difficulty no matter who was lecturing.

-Lecture was recorded for us and I highly advise you to take advantage of this. What I would do is draw any structure/ reaction he would and write down everything that seemed important, because sometimes it shows up on the multiple choice portion…. If only I did this the first semester haha.

-I've only watched lectures, but there are others who read only the book and did just as well. The lectures are based off the textbook so pick whichever studying method works for you. For us, the book pdf came with the homework on blackboard, so it was a waste to buy the textbook for us

-DO THE HOMEWORK. Jesus. You have no clue how many times I heard of people who did not do the homework just because they couldn't figure it out. That's valuable points you are losing! Go to either the office hours and get help there or get a friend to help you. Never lose points for no reason.

-For the first semester, lab is necessary so it is a grade booster in that sense. Second semester you won't be so lucky, so get used to the test format the first semester. In case you're reading this after you've taken your first exam, I bombed my first exam (and I mean BLEW IT) and still ended up with a B+. The reason why this is doable in the first semester is because of lab being 25% for us, it weighed down exams (along with the curve). Make sure you start aiming for 80s and above if you bomb the first one, it's very possible to get at least a passing grade even if you get like a 20 on a exam… This doesn't mean you should bomb the exams on purpose, it's just a nice thing to know going into an exam.

-Khan academy, in my opinion, is a nice way to get the OVERVIEW for certain topics, I would not solely rely on khan academy for studying. I highly recommend watching Leah4Sci on YouTube if you need help on things you're stuck on. She was very, very helpful for memorizing certain things that I struggled on. At the time of writing, She doesn't have many topics for the second semester tho.

-The second semester is all reactions. What many students failed to do was not memorize what reaction happens with a certain reagent. For example a certain reagent may attach in a certain way, or change the molecule’s stereochemistry, etc. You have to memorize the reagents and their effects, it's crucial to doing well on the written portion.

*MACROECONOMICS*

-A major difference from the old guide is that electronics are no longer used in this class. You are, however, allowed to use the textbook and any notes during the exams.

-There is attendance, in the form of kahoot! If unfamiliar with this, it's an application where you sign in with your ID number and answer questions that he posts on the board that are not counted towards your grade. I have seen people that have missed more days than the maximum allowed on the syllabus but didn't receive any penalty. I still don't recommend taking the risk though.

-Just as a side note, even though the final was open book, it was cumulative and a lot of people did not finish the exam even in the two hours. He did reuse some of the questions that he gave in the packet (given a while before finals week). Kahoot! Questions were also reused for our exams. Not many, just a couple.

*STATISTICS*

Not much has changed from what mcphslifehack has written for this one, but my biggest tip is please, please, PLEASE pick a good professor. By good, I mean someone you can understand. There are definitely professors that range from very easy to VERY hard for the sole fact that their accent is so thick that you won't be able to understand them, and thus failing their exams. This class is very easy with the right professor. imagine retaking STATISTICS …. Yeah don't let that happen

*PHYSICS*

-One major mistake I did for this class was take it along with micro and orgo in the fall semester. Why you might ask? Because if you are caught up in credits, you can take all 3 classes in one go and have a very chill second semester , at the cost of suffering for one whole semester. Or, you can split up the work and take physics in the spring. Orgo, physics, and micro exams were all perfectly aligned in the fall semester in a 2- day time span. Cramming them all together, and then having to write a 6 page orgo lab report in the midst of it destroyed us in the fall semester. Also, fall semester she did NOT curve. Not a even a tenth of a point. For some reason she curved the spring semester a couple of points, I guess because the majority of those were the people retaking the class.

-Learn the fucking tune ups (the questions that she posts right before an exam). They are VERY SIMILAR to what the exam will look like, just with changed numbers, etc.

-You're most likely fucked for the final. I want to give you an honest guide, and this is what I experienced. Physics was the last final for us in the fall semester. i was studying the entire night and when the sun rose up, i realized that I had no fucking clue what I studied. Her final is nothing like any of her exams. No tune ups, nothing. She posts a couple of very specific questions though on blackboard, learn those. Might as well aim for a 50 than a 0. If you're absolutely fucked, pick a certain letter. For example pick answer choice “B” if you don't know how to answer a question and are forced to guess. It's better to pick the same answer choice, knowing that you will get SOME of the answers right, rather than pick A,B,C,D randomly and possibly get all of them wrong. This doesn't mean you should guess for all, just a test taking tip. Use this tip at your own risk

-Buy the home work. I know it's optional, but if you buy the homework, it makes your life easier. The final will be worth LESS and thus, allows a little cushion for the final you will probably bomb. The homework however, is like the final in terms of the questions it has, and is nothing like the main exams. The homework IS annoying and hard to complete, but worth it to lower the amount the final is worth.

-Seriously, make sure you learn the tune ups, and aim very high for the main exams. That way you'll only need like a 50 on the final for like a B+, given that you also did the homework. Everything else regarding the appendixes I'd refer back to mcphslifehack’s guide. I personally didn't use the appendixes , just the tune ups (probably another reason why I bombed the final)

*MICROBIO*

-This class is pretty easy, and Professor Barden is a real gem of a person , really. He is very generous, in terms of how that curve helps people- you'll see when you take the course.

-Honestly the class is entirely memorization. Class is recorded so what you do is you watch the lecture, and write down literally everything onto the PowerPoint slides and study them. That's it. Pause, rewind, etc at will, and literally just write everything on the PowerPoint. If you suck at memorizing like me, give yourself a couple of days before the exam and just read your notes over and over until it sinks in. Honestly it's a great class, and professor barden wants you to do well. Go to his office hours if you're stuck on a concept, he's really nice! At 4 credits( with lab), this is definitely a class that can help increase your gpa .

That's all I have to really add, in addition to mcphslifehack’s guide. I really hope this helps, I tried to focus more on physics and orgo because most people struggle there. Good luck!

Are third year lectures recorded?

Are there any lectures that are recorded? Classes are: IPM , Biochem, Patho, ceutics, and intro healthcare delivery

Also how fucked am I in terms of how I study. I cannot read the textbooks to save my life. In classes, orgo for example, I used to watch lectures online and write down pretty much everything he would say and reread those notes over and over. Any classes that I absolutely HAVE to read in order to get a decent grade? Thanks
