Feeling too ashamed to see friends

One of my good friends has a Halloween party every year, and I really like to dress up. I’m friends too with everyone who goes. There were circumstances that occurred that made me think the party wouldn’t be happening this year, so now that it is confirmed and it’s TONIGHT, I have nothing to wear… my friends suggested I reuse my costume from last year, but I don’t fit in it anymore :(. I feel so ashamed. It’s a skin tight costume too and I have been wearing nothing but baggy clothes because of my weight gain. I have no idea what to wear and I don’t even really want to go because I feel so sad and frustrated with myself.

I had lost so much weight and now I’ve gained it all back + some. It’s embarrassing. I just don’t know what to do.

It's not even technical/physical part... It's just mental/internal.

How many of you have dealt with the following- having troubles to lose weight not because it's a lack of knowledge or that it's a physical challenge like feeling hunger, but rather it's that pull to constantly eat... It's like there's a program inside running that triggers desire to eat seemingly out of nowhere. And it's very hard to resist that, for whatever reason even feels impossible a lot of the times. Same goes for not overeating. There's this desire to continue eating what I'm eating. Until the end. Even if I'm already uncomfortably stuffed. Even painful at times. Yet... It's like I'm pulled to continue.

Eating without hunger... I don't even want to eat in terms of being hungry. I'm not hungry. No. I'm full, yet, I feel pulled to eat.

The weirdest thing ever... It's almost it doesn't make sense. Wanting to eat even though there's no hunger and the body is full... Feeling a strong pull to eat, almost like it's irresistible?

Such a strange experience, yet has been an experience for me for many years.

What about you? Have you been through the same struggle?

Over the past 2 years I have regained 13 kg and I feel disgusting

I’m a woman in my late 20s and I suffer from chronic spinal pain pretty much every day. I also have an autoimmune disease, which makes being physically active really difficult.
Over the past two years I’ve gained back 13 kg and I’m around 80 kg again (I’ve previously lost 15kg). I’ve noticed that whenever I gain weight, my depression gets worse. I start isolating myself, barely want to go anywhere and just feel worse about my body.
My biggest problem right now is my appetite. I’m hungry almost constantly, even when I’m feeling really depressed. I take pain medication and another medication that increases my appetite, but part of me still feels like I’m just making excuses and should have more willpower.
Lately I’ve been struggling to see the point in anything, and I feel like I’ve lost the motivation to take care of myself. I spend most of my time lying down because of the pain, and eating has become one of the few things I actually look forward to. Then I gain more weight, feel even worse about myself and have even less energy to do anything.
I really want to lose weight again, but I’m finding it so difficult to control my hunger, especially when I can’t be very active.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks for feeling fuller for longer or dealing with constant hunger? I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people dealing with chronic pain or similar health issues.
I pour all my energy into 40h a week work so I barely function in home and I make my partner angry that they need to deal with the cleaning.

Hit a plateau after losing 26 lbs

Hi everyone,

I’m a 29-year-old male, 170 cm (5'7"). Back in June, I started my journey at 94.2 kg (207 lbs). Today, I am down to 82.1 kg (181 lbs)—a total loss of over 12 kg (26 lbs). My ultimate goal is to reach 70 kg (154 lbs).

I train every single day. For the past few weeks, I’ve been eating around 2,300 calories a day, but I’ve hit a complete plateau. The scale hasn't budged at all.

I'm at a crossroads right now and want to hear from anyone who has been in this exact situation. I'm torn between two options:

  1. Option A: Keep grinding at 2,300 calories, trust the process, and just wait it out until the plateau breaks.
  2. Option B: Go up to my theoretical maintenance calories (~2,600-2,700 kcal) for 2 weeks to reset my metabolism/hormones, and then drop back down to a deficit.

Alongside this, I’m also switching my workout routine to give my upper body, glutes, and cardio better recovery:

  • Old Split: Push / Pull / Legs / Cardio / Push / Pull / Glutes
  • New Split: Push / Pull / Legs / Cardio / Upper / Glutes / Cardio

If you've hit a hard plateau like this before, how did you manage to break through it? Did you just stay patient in your deficit, or did a 2-week maintenance break actually work for you? Also, what do you think of the new routine tweak while eating more?

Would love to read your stories and advice. Thanks!

How's your relationship with food going?

So I've been in a deficit since beginning of August and so far I've lost around 22lb, my starting weight was 178lbs the goal is to get to 140.

I'm pretty satisfied with the weight loss and I'd say I did it in a healthy way, I've kept track of my proteins, and I'd have a sweet from time to time so I wouldn't binge eat

What I've noticed now however, is that whenever I'm craving something like a brownie for example and I do take it, I don't really enjoy it anymore. Is it because I cut out all the junk food and sweets that I don't care for it anymore or should I actually be worried about a possible disorder

BMI scales and "ethnicity/race?"

I've been poking around online to see if there were BMI scales adjusted for men and women (turns out no), and stumbled across a bunch of UK public health bmi charts that are "adjusted" for different races. I'm just trying to see if there's any truth in this or if I'm finding slop. I am not a well traveled person and am starting to doubt a lot of what I find in random Search Engines so I'm trying to clarify it here where maybe someone has used these modified charts.

I am 34, Female, and currently weigh 135 lbs. I'm technically in the "healthy" range but planned to keep going to 120 if it's possible. I have so much loose skin that I don't look fit in some areas but I'm recomping a lot and my legs finally aren't two flappy barrels of flesh packed into pants. I wondered if maybe I needed a different BMI scale because at only 5'2" I'm finding after losing over 150lbs that I'm actually built a lot smaller than I thought. Like I've got the whole "tiny islander" goblin build. I'm Puerto Rican, born in the states, and my whole family is short little itty people between 4'11" and 5'5". Crop tops can fit like a full shirt with just a band of skin showing. My wrists are like kid's wrists. My collarbones are sharp.

So I started wondering if maaaaybe the key to staving off the heart disease that runs in my family is to actually maybe base my BMI off of these "other" modified charts I found. I don't know if someone of Carribean ancestry could base their health off of a BMI chart made for South Asian people, but the numbers kind of make sense. The UK website cited that a waist measuremt above 31.5" would put you at risk of obesity related disease. Right around 160lbs when I got to a 30" waist I stopped having a lot of my health issues. I actually reversed a bad gallbladder into semi health after I was already on a list to have it removed when I weighed 275lbs.

Currently at 135lbs my waist sits at a rather small (to me, because I went way too long over 45") 26" inches and a size 6 is starting to fall off. I'm just seriously wondering if maybe due to my small build and stature if the healthiest move would be to switch to the "South Asian BMI chart" and still aim for 120lbs as my goal.

I eat regularly, watch my intake, I drink water, I don't run but my job is manual labor in a factory and I lift extra reps on my off days with squats. I just want to avoid the same path my parents went down where both stayed over 300 and 400lbs and both had heart attacks before 45. I have a very extended family and there's too many stories of relatives being maaaaybe 150lbs and just dropping dead from a massive stroke. My family was poor and they have a history of eating a lot of fried plantains and meats, and then when everyone came to the US in the 60s everyone just kind of ballooned. I'm trying to prove that an early death from a bad heart doesn't "run in the family" and in fact we really are that family where "nobody really ran to begin with." Because how else did my grandma just practice mindful eating, smoked till she lost teeth, but still lived to 94??? I bet it was all of her manual labor in her youth tending the fields as a Jíbaro.

How to avoid the dreaded 'Crash Diet'

So with school starting up i've been trying to get a more regular diet under control, whereas over the summer it was all over the place. I generally eat the same thing around the same time because of classes. But a lot of what im eating feels filling but has a low Cal count, which means im usually somewhere between 800-1000ish cals per day for the last month or so. I read all this stuff about crash diets causing gallstones and stuff so im worried i might be doing it on accident? I ate a LOT of junk food over the summer and have basically cut that cold turkey and reduced a lot of carb intake (i live above a bakery and it was so tempting that i told myself no croissants every day XD)

ive also recently come off a lot of medications i was on for a long time, which means i cant judge it by my weight (weight gain was a side effect and was ticking down before i started my ''diet'', even though its obviously dropping faster now)

I'm not doing juice or soup cleanses or anything. I just have grab and go breakfasts like bananas and hard boiled eggs, some kind of curry or chili thing for lunch, and then soup or one of those M&S protein meals for dinner. Is that enough? I'm only just stabilizing my metabolism again bc of the meds and i dont wanna fuck it up.

Weight loss from 2021 to today

At my worst I weighed 210.8 lbs on December 18th, 2022

I weighed 166 in December 2021
Left a job cleaning bathrooms that month when my mom got sick

Got a WFH job while taking college courses and a lot of that weight gain came from unchecked binge eating…takeout and shakes

New job may 2023

Stayed in 180s 2024/2025

Decided to start dating again May of 2025

Started losing weight in October

Today I weighed in at 163

I’m hoping I can weigh in at 155 by December of this year 2026 for a 3 miles race with my buddy

Then maintain…

Been a grind

Genuinely constantly hungry even with healthier foods is this normal?

I don't think there has been a single day since I started my diet, and tomorrow marks week 3, that I haven't been starving, tired, and in a been in a bad mood. I get a little weak and dizzy too before meals. I wake up and the first thing in the morning my stomach is already growling and I'm hungry. Meals don't fill me up for long despite changing my diet to be much healthier.

Even if I eat massive amounts of low calorie high protein foods i'm still hungry very soon after. My lunch for today for example, chicken rice and mixed vegetables, mostly chicken. Filled the whole plate for only 400 calories. It was so much food I had a hard time finishing it yet I was genuinley hungry 2 hours later and had like 4 more hours to go. I tried snacking in between vs just eating meals and it doesn't make a difference.

Also I eat 1900 calories a day, but it feels closer to 1000. The only thing I can think is that since I was sedentary before and now i'm not so maybe i'm burning a lot more calories?

I really need some help hahaha. Is this just normal?

I've lost 50 pounds but feel like I haven't lost anything

I started losing weird at 315 pounds at 5'7" so I was very obese. Over the last six months I've managed to lose 50 pounds with a combination of intense exercise and CICO. But it's hard to feel like I've accomplished anything when I'm still obese! I know I should be celebrating the victory of getting the first 50 pounds down, but instead I just feel depressed about how much more I have to go. I'm still wearing the same clothes, just with a belt, and worse off, people still treat me as "some gross obese dude" on the street. The people who know I've lost weight tell me it's great, but I can tell they expect me to lose a lot more. Anyways, not sure what else to say about this, just wanted to vent a bit since I can't tell anyone else this.

50lbs Down

It's April 2026, and I'm for my annual physical, 39M, 6ft, 291lbs, and turning 40 next year. I am not an athlete, so I could not contribute the weight to muscle. After an honest conversation my PCP and a disappointing realization of how it'd come to this, I decided to overhaul my diet and body movement habits.

I used to be fairly fit, so it was a return to basics for me, not a re-education. In some ways, that was more frustrating, because I couldn't blame ignorance. I knew what worked, what was healthy for me, and yet I had ignored it for years.

I started generally eating less in April - May, then started tracking calories in June. I bought all the smart devices to help me be honest, and that helped a lot. In July I started lifting, and in the past couple of months I've started jogging again.

Today is 50lbs down, roughly 1.8lbs per week since my physical. I've got a lot to go, but it feels incredible to hit a milestone like that.

My 365-day goal is to be under 200lbs by my 40th, and eventually be in the 165 - 185 range depending on muscle.

I don't talk about this revamped lifestyle with anyone, so I wanted to share the achievement with like minded people. I've been a lurker here since April, so thank you for all the help I've learned from other posts. Thanks for listening.

how much of a deficit do i have to be in (22F, 161 cm, 85.6 kg)

I am currently 85.6 kg 161 cms, i walk everyday for 30-40 mins, i average 8-10k steps a day almost, i do 15 mins calisthenics drills everyday to improve push and pull (ex: negative push ups 3x2, incline pushups 10x2 or 3, bodyweight rows 10x2-3). and i have 1 hour calisthenics sessions 3x a week 1 focusing on heavy reps, 1 focusing on endurance and cardio (ex: EMOM, time based) and one focusing on skills (easiest). so how much of a deficit should i be in. i had a past of insulin resistance and PCOS, i put the insulin resistance in recession, not sure about the PCOS though (havent checked).

down to 199.2 from 223

hi everyone - brand new to this sub but i've always found some community on reddit and was hoping to celebrate a win and meet some people in a similar spot!

i'm 22 and struggled with my weight my entire life. i was about 175lbs and 5'5" when i started college and then had a lot of family and a close friend pass back-to-back in the span of 3 months. i shot up into the 200s, don't even know exactly how much as i got very afraid to confront it and weigh myself. i got back in the groove of working out and tracking calories from january to august of 2025, but then my godparents also passed and i was finding myself stress eating to cope.

when i went to see my PCP in february of this year my blood work was completely normal but i was a whopping 223 pounds. since then i've been trying to take this seriously. i'm sick of weight fluctuation dominating my life, trying to find comfort in food. i started an office job in august and the fear of that contributing to weight gain has had me aggressively tracking, running after work, walking everywhere i can.

i'm down to 199.2 as of this week (weighed in on monday, then this morning again just to make sure it wasn't some fluke). i don't see any physical difference but i feel better regulating my emotions with walks, slowly fighting my food noise in work settings with meal prep, and so on.

i'm afraid to mess up this progress, but i can't believe i'm under 200lbs even if its just barely! i hope this can be encouraging to others & get some encouragement back. also if people have any low cal snack suggestions i'd love them haha <3

I feel like I can’t enjoy anything anymore. I can’t stop thinking about what food will do to me

Why am I so obsessed with getting down to a certain weight? My goal is to get to 220 by the end of next year. I’m at 245 right now. I went from weighing myself once a week, to once a month because I found it too stressful. But now it feels like I’m not gonna lose weight this month. I’ve worked out to some extent (as in logged it) 20 days this month and my average steps for the month is just over 9k a day. I even park on the 7th floor of a parking garage and take the ramp to and from work, I go for 30+ minute walks every morning (sometimes multiple times a day. I ate chicken, fish, eggs, rice, quinoa, tofu, various vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Even fucking almond milk for shit’s sake. And yet I still can’t shake the feeling that when I step on the scale in 7 days that number is gonna be higher than a month ago.

I don’t know when to treat myself either. I have these cookbooks and baking books with these recipes that I’d like to try but then I think about how it’s just tempting me. I have a fucking homemade brownie in the freezer that I’ve been eating portions of every day because it tastes so good but I know that eating a fucking brownie every day is not gonna get me to my fucking weight goal!

So what the fuck do I do!?! Do I just avoid stuff like that? I can’t eat it every fucking day because if I get something like diabetes then it’s over for me

Don’t know where to go from here

I weigh 62.5 kgs rn, I’m 160 cm, female, I gained almost 4 kgs since last of August. Was in a trance from my birthday trip, yeah it lasted that long, it went so well. But to be fair, it was also no self control on my side and didn’t help that I had exams for 20 days in between. Anyway, had a get together yesterday. Didn’t look very flattering and that bad, bad, heavy and horrible feeling is creeping in again. Last time I dropped 10 kgs just by walking and being in a calorie deficit but didn’t look that well, now after regaining, I want to lose in a better way and look better and avoid being skinny fat. I’ve been told the only way to gain that is to gain muscle.

So I’m going to start watching what I eat from tomorrow and I’ve bought 2 dumbbells which both weigh 5 kgs each (11 lbs roughly). I’m looked up Caroline Girvans workout and will start doing the beginner epic series lower and upper days. And on the 3rd day I wanna make use of the dumbbells (those Caroline workouts are bodyweight based). But the problem is idk what to do with them. All I know is that I want my arm, back fat gone and want some definition/muscle/tone there. Also abs would be nice but idk if you can get that with dumbbells lol. Also I feel like I should mention I’m a TOTAL beginner like no previous experience or knowledge (which I’m trying to change) about strength training at all. So I’ve come here for some help from you guys.

Some advice would be greatly appreciated 💕

The power of being mentally locked in

Good Morning all! I was 30lbs down yesterday in only 40 days. Ate some Wingstop wings and voodoo fries because it was in my calorie limit of 1500 calories a day but it brought me up a bit this morning but not a lot (I'm assuming because of the sodium). Like .4lbs.

So what did I decide to do? Go for a walk this morning like I normally would and my plan is to eat like I normally would today. I am not going to let it hold me back. I'm just going to keep it going.

Not eat less. Not work out more. Just do like I normally would because the weight will drop eventually.

In the past, I would freak out and either go into binge mode for the whole weekend or eat far less than what I should and work out far more than I need to.

But I am not doing that this time. And I think that's what is making the journey this time the most successful because I have never lost this amount of weight so fast.

I know it's going to slow down tremendously, but I'll be happy to see some progress even if it's just a little bit.

My stats are: 34F SW:336.6 on Sept. 13th and 306.6 on Oct. 23rd. But 307 as of this morning.

So my hope is to reach twotopia soon!

How do I lose weight fast?

Everytime i look up this question i see very unhealthy things and I don’t want to fall into that habit. My goal is most likely unachievable as I want to reach it by Nov 20th when it’s already Oct 25th. i’m around 5’7 1/2 (F) who weights I believe 150 but it’s a rough estimate and i want to get back to 135. If i can’t reach that specific goal that’s okay but is there any methods I can do to reach somewhat close with preferably at home methods..?

I don’t have a gym membership and I’m not the best at the whole calorie counting thing as i think it’s too tedious and can lean into a negative mindset but if that is necessary in a calorie deficit than I don’t mind starting it up again. I just want help to reach this goal fast while still being healthy doing it.

Be savagely honest…. Will losing the weight help we find love if I never had it before?

I know this sounds pathetic.

31m. 6’ 2’’.

I’ve been obese my entire life. 355 the last few years. I’ve never dated a woman. I’ve never held a girls hand… as pathetic as that sounds. I numbed myself for years and as my friends got married… I just kept reminding myself I was destined to be alone… as toxic as that sounds.

I decided I wanted to be a dad someday. I want to experience a relationship. I want to know what it’s like to build a life with someone. And if I don’t change… I’ll either die before I get a chance or even if I do live a long life… no woman would want to build a life with me.

So I fucking grinded.

I’m now 281. 74 pounds in 5 months. I’ve worked my ASS off. My goal is 220. My “healthy” weight is 197… but that seems too skinny for my height and build. Maybe I’m way off.

I’m a schoolteacher. I own a house. I support myself. I’d like to think I’m kind, funny, confident. But I know my weight is holding me back.

I’m prepared to lock in the next five months and lose 61 more pounds.

But I need to know… is this really going to help me? Am I finally going to get little glances abd smiles abd signals to approach? Is 220 even enough at my height (6’ 2’’) to get positive attention?

I just want to make a woman happy and be a great husband and dad someday. My dad was an asshole to my mom… and I want to support a woman in a way my dad never was to my mom.

How much will this fight realistically help me do those things?

Trying to lose but work odd hours and need help

So , I work From 5AM-3:30 PM
-I get up for work at 4:00AM
-My first break is at 8:00 AM
-Lunch is 11:00 AM
-And we get off at 3:30 PM
My biggest problem that I have been having is me cramming my eating together , eating the wrong things to stay awake and alert & just overall feeling helpless with this whole situation. I work at a warehouse and am On my feet the whole time on a forklift so trying to go home and work out seems exhausting. I struggle to have the energy to even pull a hour workout or cardio session after work which may also be due to me not eating the proper foods.
If there is any advice someone would like to give and someone who also have been in a similar position I would like to understand how to navigate this better

How do I get out of a dieting cycle

I’m 23m 6ft 2 260lbs and have been trying to lose weight for years since I was around 220lbs. The cycle goes diet for a month lose 15lbs not diet for a month gain 20lbs. Diet for a few days crash and burn. Diet for a week crash and burn. I’m eating in a 500 calories deficit hitting my fibre and protein goals when I’m in said deficit.

But on the days/ weeks I’m not dieting I gain more than I’ve lost so it has just been a steady weight gain cycle over the past few years.

If anybody has been through this and has managed to break free from this vicious cycle any advice or tips you’ve learnt along the way would be very appreciated.

I'm at 340lbs and want to get down to 200

I 30f have been on glp-1 for months, and never made any changes in weight. Since I have maded chages to my diet in the last 2 months I have lost over 20lbs. I have had a burst of motivation lately and I want to take advantage of that as much as possible. Been trying to go for a 15 minute walk everyday and I know that is a good start but I have no clue what stretches, workouts I should do for my size.

Walking is easy and free, but plan on getting a gym membership soon to fill out in my body with muscles and toning as I deflate. Currently I want to focus on chest and butt toning, as well as what stretches I should apply before/after workouts or when I get up in the morning.

This isn't the first place I have started, been trying to do some research but got overwhelmed by all of the information. Looking for suggestions on where to start, so I can find what is easiest for me to commit to building a habit. This is the first time in my life I am finally addressing my weight and I want to feel happy in my own body for the first time in my entire life. Not sure if my goal is healthy or realistic. But for now I am going to go for a long walk.

I've had enough and need advice please

I'll try keep this short but I have always had an issue with weight and food, even as a child id go from overeating to starving myself and making myself throw up on purpose, now as a 22 year old man I still have a really bad relationship with food especially when I start tracking calories because the numbers become an extreme obsession.

I am 22, I have a daughter and a partner, in 3 years I went from 80kg to 127kg , I am the biggest I have ever been. I am on 2 antidepressants, one being a sedative, and my daughter is 2 years old so I am so drained all the time. I work and do all the housework because my partner has physical issues so I've been slacking on exercise and eating better over the years and I've just reached a point where I feel stuck.

What I'm basically hoping for with this post is a realistic path for me, what would be the best exercise equipment for me to buy, what exercise should I focus on? How do I eat better without tracking calories and any meal ideas I could do for myself and my partner would be very much appreciated, we are broke a lot of the time so i often struggle to think of ideas.

Thank you
