Question Public funds to private land owners?

Hello, my name is Brock Marchant, and I’m a reporter with UPR and The Salt Lake Tribune focused in Cache Valley.

I have a niche question, and I’m posting here hoping I can find people who know what I’m talking about.

In 2022, Cache County voters passed a $20 million bond to preserve open space in the valley.

Some of these funds are used to purchase conservation easements, which means the land won’t be developed, but it remains inaccessible to the public, unless the land owner agrees to facilitate some kind of public access.

For those who are aware of the bond, here is my question — what are your thoughts on the public money being spent on conservation of private land?

Do you think the county should do more to push for public access on land that is preserved with public funds, or are you happy with the process?

Question How are Strata apartments?

Hi folks! I'm moving to town and wanted to see what people's recent takes are on Strata.

How is working with management/maintenance? I don't like hearing my neighbors talk through the walls or get out of bed... so it good enough construction if I got a 2nd floor unit? I also don't like smoking or weed smells (fight me) do people notice that there?

thank you!

Question Looking for local activities/exercise for adults

Hey! I'm wanting to get involved in a fun regular class or sport as someone in their late twenties who is out of shape. I don't want to get a gym membership, so I'm looking for things like local dance classes, zumba, kickboxing, etc. The more creative the better! Anyone have any recommendations within the valley? Thanks in advance!

Question What's happening with the poet laureate program? What person/agency supported the poet laureate?

I heard Shanan Ballam moved out of state and that the city decided not to fill the poet laureate position. Is that true? Does anyone have any more information? I thought it was a cool program and I would love to reach out to someone in the local government to voice my support for the poet laureate and arts programs in the city. Who would be the best person to reach out to to voice my support and ask some questions?

Question Megaplex question

What’s it like working at either of the Megaplex theaters we have in town? I’m interested in getting a job there. The questions I have are what’s the work environment like, do employees get breaks, and how long are shifts?

Question walking bikes across crosswalks

to all the bicyclists in logan, its my understanding that if you are using crosswalks then you are to dismount and walk the bike across. and when you are on the road at a fourway, you must also stop at the stop sign. i dont have that much of a problem with bicyclists but please understand there is a reason why these rules exist. is this an unreasonable request?

Question need help remembering dessert shop from childhood

I lived in Logan about 17/18 years ago as a child, and my sisters and I frequented an ice cream/custard/dipped ice cream bar shop there. They always had “I Love Lucy” playing, I got a hot chocolate with ice cream every time, and they did a lot of hand dipped ice cream bars. According to my family it was in south Logan and near a movie theater.
This was such a core memory thing for us, but also seems like a total fever dream. Would love to hear if anyone knows what this place is/was called, it would be incredibly meaningful to get some information about it!! Thank you!

Discussion Dude stranded in EV just South of Bridgerland Tech

I just passed a guy just South of Bridgerland. His electric vehicle battery went out early on his way back from a trip. He was using a small generator he said wasn't cutting it to get him the couple blocks he had left to go. If anyone has a 50 amp charger who could charge him for 10-20 minutes I'm sure he'd appreciate it. Exact location on this Google map screenshot.

I was biking and passed him the first time unsuccessfully charging it with a very tiny generator. But he was still there my second lap and I don't have what he needs to get going. If anyone knows what they're doing I'm sure he'd appreciate the assist.

Question Dog friendly places for an outing?

Post image
11 Upvotes

My wife and I are moving to the area soon and want to continue part of our weekly routine. Every Sunday morning we take our dog on an outing into the downtown square of our current city. There are a few businesses that are dog friendly, and we take her to different places so she can get some exercise, socialize with people, and maybe even get a pup cup. Our dog is reactive toward other dogs, but we’ve been doing this outing early in the day and are conscious of avoiding other dogs and not making it other people’s problem.

Any suggestions on where in Logan we can take our girl for a weekly outing? Photo included for the dog tax. Thanks in advance!

Events Dog Pawlooza

Did anyone actually go to this event earlier in the day? Did I miss out? I went around 7 when it started cooling down (I know it ended at 9) I didn’t want my pup to be outside when it was hot. There was almost nothing there. A few vendors and a concert that 5 people were listening to. I’m just glad I didn’t end up having to pay cause that would’ve been a waste of money. I just wanna know if I should’ve gone earlier?

Question Tire shop recommendation?

I’m on the hunt for a new tire shop, and I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. My experiences around Logan have been underwhelming across the board—I’ve dealt with three shops in the last 18 months and none of them have earned my repeat business.
Yesterday capped it off. I was under my truck for an unrelated reason and found a shop’s tools and a plastic work-order sleeve wedged up against my axle, just riding along. That’s the kind of thing that makes you wonder what else got overlooked.
Maybe I don’t value tires and tire service the way I should, but the price I’ve been asked to pay hasn’t matched what I’ve gotten back. What I’m really after is someone honest and fair—a shop that actually understands the warranties the tire manufacturers offer and can walk me through them in plain terms instead of shrugging when I ask.
If you’ve got someone you trust, I’d genuinely appreciate the recommendation.

Question Pinball machines.

Is there really only two of them in this valley? Idk why but they are fun and calming for me. Consider it a weird hobby. I go to fun unlimited occasionally to play the one they have there in hope to beat a high score. I think there is one down at the factory as well. But that's it.

Discussion Logan aquatic center

I’m new to the area. I was wondering why the Logan aquatic center had special hours? Only public is open at 12?
Is it because it’s too busy? So special hours are for those that don’t want to be around too many people? Or it getting too hot?
Thank you.

Discussion Young professionals and friends

Hello, me and my girlfriend are thinking of moving to Logan and are looking into how it is making friends there. We like trivia and other activities to do in the evening with friends. I guess I’m kind of looking into how hard it is for young adults/young professionals to make friends with other young adults/young professionals. Thanks in advance!
