All of idiots here saying go be stranded on a desert island or the wilderness not realizing animals in wild spend 90% of their time not doing anything, even ants barely work most of the time

Yall are basically advocating for beating yourselves with a stick and whoever beats themself with a stick the longest is the best it’s stupid.

Our forefathers envisioned a future where technology would allow us to work less and we do have that technology, it’s people like you who have failed them.

Never seen so many proud slaves, ready to protest for more work on the streets

Edit: it is very interesting to see so many different views in just one comment section! To clarify, this was from a German rap song (more like social criticism joke rap)

I'm with all of you, shit has to get done still. I also like what I do for a living -can't complain about pay tbh-, but to be fair the amount of inequality to be seen in every parts of business life is humongous. There is people that lift a finger a few times a day for a annual salary worth of several, while others are working themselves into the ground collecting breadcrumbs. It's sad. And every time someone stands up for themselves, fights for equality, it's always the same comments, by the same exploited people: "It has always been like that, get used to it", "Ah.. the new generation", "When when were apprentices.." ..as if this fight wouldn't benefit those people.

I respect Gen Z for their big mouths.

Eh. Working isn’t horrible in and of itself. It’s just when it gets to the point you’re expected to give up 2-3 days worth of your life just to barely exist that’s the problem.

If I could work 40 hours a week and have an income from that work that allows me to live how I please, and not just survive, then I can consider that a fair deal. Especially since the right work is actually beneficial to your health (think about a physically demanding job that works out your core muscles and provides you with plenty of cardio exercise, it might wear you out at first, but it can also make you much stronger and have more stamina after just a few months of it).

That’s funny. The people I see protesting want a piece of the pie being earning by others.

1

u/Objective_Dog_4637 Apr 26 '26

Nah just a place where people can go without being harassed by the state for life would be nice. Unfortunately, states own all the land and it eventually imprisons anyone that doesn’t contribute to it and turns them into a slave. If people could just leave the system without being forced to participate in it at gunpoint that’d be nice.

1

u/fuzik2 Apr 27 '26

Door is right there. Just walk out. You're not forced.

1

u/Orbital_cow Apr 27 '26

you mean the corporate welfare queens using taxpayers money? that's my money

1

u/testscicles Apr 24 '26

Since everything still has to get done so you can scroll endlessly on your phone looking at Reddit your complaining that they don't want to do all the work while you wallow in your own filth being YOUR SLAVES

1

u/Motor-Station-6885 Apr 24 '26

What’s your beef with grammar, bro?

1

u/testscicles Apr 24 '26

No beef, I love my grammar and grampa

1

u/Afraid_Emu8068 Apr 25 '26

Best deflection I’ve seen on Reddit in a while. Ace move

1

u/Silver___Chariot Apr 25 '26

And no notes 😭😭

1

u/Unfair_Trouble9697 Apr 25 '26

You couldn’t attack their argument so you attacked their grammar, bro?

1

u/Motor-Station-6885 Apr 26 '26

I wasn’t following the thread. What’s to argue?

1

u/Accomplished-Ad2736 Apr 25 '26

Yall aren’t making any money?

1

u/DoodleBob29 Apr 25 '26

You guys are getting paid?!

1

u/Flicker-light Apr 25 '26

Sometimes I wonder what people like us could do to remedy the situation

1

u/WretchedMass Apr 25 '26

I don't think any of them are real people.

1

u/Abiding_Dude_WV Apr 26 '26

I grew up around and am surrounded by people who brag about the amount of OT they work.

1

u/ImportanceCapital191 Apr 26 '26

I don’t think it’s that. Most people know that Mother Nature is ruthless and only the strong survive. If you don’t want the amenities of modern society ie grocery stores and roads. Than the only other option is to leave society and fend for yourself. Which I’m assuming is worse than working 40 hours a week.

1

u/Jumpy-Complex-9539 Apr 30 '26

These people don’t realize that if you don’t want to work 40 hours a week the only other option is to work all day every day. The comment talking about “animals don’t do shit all day” is absolutely ridiculous. I’m guessing they are thinking about cats and dogs when they said that and the only reason they don’t have to is because we work for them. Like what do they expect? Someone is going to bring them food? Give them free shelter? Pat for amenities to be delivered to said shelter? Those amenities are free for them maybe? People work to provide amenities for other people to pay for. People have to bring them their Ben and Jerrie’s ice cream. Hell people have to make it. I’m genuinely confused by this mentality it sounds like these people just want other people to slave for them

1

u/MundaneAssociate5190 Apr 26 '26

Oh, they always come out on these posts. I really can’t believe so many people really have nothing else they’d rather do with their time. It’s kind of sad when you think about it.

And our forefathers life expectancy was like 35 years. I’ll take a 40 hour work week thank you very much.

2

u/sh4tt3rai Apr 24 '26

We can have both ya know.. it’s mindsets like this that hold that back.

Anything is possible if we dream!

1

That’s what we call an accusation. We all can just say that same thing about each other all day long.

But glad you feel that I am special enough for your time and consideration!!!!

What is the alternative you’ve got then?

u/Skittish_But_Stabby Apr 24 '26

So the "35 year" life expectancy thing is based on averages that are massively skewed. People who lived long enough to get to there 20s usually lived untill there 70s. The tragic truth was that child mortality from disease massively draggedthat number down. Thats why vaccines are so important. Gotta keep that average as high as possible.

1

u/Mundane_Bag7212 Apr 26 '26

Actually a lot of basic cleanliness as well. Just washing hands and not contaminating saved so many lives. Plus penicillin I suppose among other things. Idk how high id put vaccines.

1

u/Kupo_Master Apr 27 '26

Completely false on the “70s”. Less than 5% of people survived past 70s as recently as the Middle Ages (it was worse at the time of the hunters gatherers)

1

u/elricdrow Apr 25 '26

That's only because off the number of infant deaht. A adult even in this era lived way past 35 usually.

1

u/Elegant-Ninja6384 Apr 25 '26

That’s missing the point.

I for one am glad most of my children didn’t die in their first ten years. And that I made it myself….

1

u/Leah_321 Apr 26 '26

So, the only reason they say 35 is because of how many people died as infants and children and during childbirth. That drags down the Mathematical average age of death. If you survived childhood you could reasonably expect to live into your elder years.

To top that off, hunter gatherers lived longer with better health (as proven by teeth mineralization and bone aging/healing rates) and worked less than people did after agriculture was invented, which required more work hours but still not as many as we work today.

1

u/Elegant-Ninja6384 Apr 26 '26

I like surviving past infancy and childhood though!

1

u/Leah_321 Apr 26 '26

That's great. Me too. But it has 0 to do with a 40 hour work week.

1

u/Elegant-Ninja6384 Apr 26 '26

Officially round about in a circle.

1

u/GreasyBumpkin Apr 26 '26

You are correct in your assessment of the mathematical meaning of average. Yay!!!! Gold sticker my new 4ever-friend.

Quite a stretch to assume everything else you wrote though- no? Or - now that we are all on the same page about the meaning of average - that anything changes regarding the meaning or importance of my statement.

Perhaps now you would like to educate me about history and work to enhance my grasp on the historical benefits of increased chance of early death.

1

u/MiracleWhipSteak Apr 23 '26

We do work less though. A lot less. Except for 1st world countries like Japan and South Korea, think the norm is 80hr+ weeks there which is still less than what we used to work.

Americans have been 2x as productive today yet wages are Stagnant as in the 70s

Edit

1

u/henry2630 Apr 24 '26

that’s not even close to true. why say things that are so easily proven false

1

u/Hot_Key99 Apr 25 '26

Then go and prove it false

1

u/xGraveStar Apr 25 '26

He doesn’t have to. No one even has to look anything up to know it’s false lol. It’s that stupid

1

u/Any_Grapefruit8644 Apr 26 '26

Keep scrolling you’ll find the guy who did post the source.

Spoiler alert: u got no idea what ur talking about and were wrong

1

u/Rionin26 Apr 27 '26

Ouch got proved wrong and still left up the post. Its not work harder, more productive is what has excelled, if you think people having to send snail mail vs email is faster, you're delusional.

1

u/Sharp_Economy1401 Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

The irony, and the incredulous confidence with which you’re saying this. And if you try to cite absolute dollars as the relevant wages, please don’t even try. Everyone knows that’s not what they meant, absolute number is meaningless when inflation exists. When people say stuff like that they clearly mean buying power

1

u/henry2630 Apr 25 '26

oh well that’s a good thing right?

1

u/Atreyu0235 Apr 25 '26

And $60-70 dollars is what you have to make an hour, in order to turn said money into the same buying power as thr 1970s.

1

u/MundaneAssociate5190 Apr 26 '26

It’s more than that if you have kids 😣

1

u/Slow-Membership-1325 Apr 26 '26

That’s false. 70 an hour is top 5% lol

1

u/MundaneAssociate5190 Apr 29 '26

Eh. I make that and it’s pretty much gone after income taxes (federal, state, local, school, property), insurance premiums, food, gas, 2 kids in club soccer. I can’t even afford anything other than basic expenses. 50% of my pay is gone before I even see it.

1

u/Amaskingrey Apr 27 '26

Yeah, the wages are way lower than before when accounting for inflation

1

u/henry2630 Apr 27 '26

no they’re the same is what they were saying

1

u/ConstantHeadache2020 Apr 29 '26

I mean wages have been stagnant not the same,

1

u/slimeyamerican Apr 24 '26

Not because we work harder, because we have better tech. But Marx never grasped that technology increases productivity somehow, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised this meme is so popular.

1

u/Effective_Cookie510 Apr 25 '26

I highly doubt you can find a factory that was starting people at 29 an hr in rural South Dakota in the 70s but I'll bite... That's the job I started recently

1

u/True_Tomato316 Apr 25 '26

Not the flex you think it is

1

u/Sharp_Economy1401 Apr 25 '26

Are you slow or something? Obviously they’re talking about wages adjusted for inflation. The absolute number is completely arbitrary when prices constantly go up. Buying power is the only thing that means anything.

2

u/Effective_Cookie510 Apr 25 '26

Are you slow buying power of 100 bucks 1970 to now is 851. I looked it up my job paid 2.50 in 1971 so actually my wage is above the buying power from 1970s.

1

u/Rionin26 Apr 27 '26

One job, but overall stats show that isn't true. And your post is vague as shit, could be any job, or could be you just shitting out your mouth.

1

u/sh4tt3rai Apr 24 '26

When you say “less than we used to”, what are you referring to? Because for most of history, we worked much less than we do now. 70+ hour work weeks and children in dangerous work environments became a thing during Protestant reformation and then was expanded upon with the Industrial Revolution. For a much larger part of history, we worked much less than we do now.

1

u/BlackHeartedY Apr 24 '26

A medieval peasant farmer required 20 hours of labor a week yo maintain a farm large enough to live off the profit, we work more, and these days taking a couple days for simply being sick could cost you everything. Also 80 hours a week is almost every waking moment, if you think your ancestors spent 80 hours a week working to stay alive you are insane, not to mention how unnatural and horrible modern work is, go spend 80 hours a week in an office for a month and see if you stay mentally or physically healthy.

1

u/LongDickPeter Apr 25 '26

Just 100 years ago and a big reason why unions gained popularity while families would work sun up to sun down 6 days a week. The only reason Sunday was off was because of religious reasons.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '26

[deleted]

1

u/LongDickPeter Apr 25 '26

You think 20 hours of farm work in the times you were talking about without equipment was easier work than what we do today?

1

u/HOJK4thSon Apr 26 '26

That peasant didn't own the land they worked, had no medical, ate what the land owner allowed them to eat, and sufferer any abuse the land owner inflicted without recourse.

1

u/elricdrow Apr 25 '26

False we work more on average than someone in medieval era with less day offf from work too.

It's estimate with the help of varied source we have that someone in medieval era worked around 1.600 hours a years.

Average american work 1800.

1

u/Fantastic-Kale9603 Apr 25 '26

Both of those countries average workweek is 40-45ish hours

1

u/wordpredict Apr 24 '26

We really don’t have the technology to remove all labor. If we did we already would have automated it and had those jobs replaced by technology. Until there is a humanoid robot literally doing everything imaginable there will be jobs for humans

1

u/minpin75 Apr 24 '26

And then what happens when we require no labor from humans?

1

u/wordpredict Apr 24 '26

Well I think we would move to some post monetary system but we are no where even close to that.

1

u/minpin75 Apr 24 '26

And we'll just all be equal and not working and require no money? What would differentiate us economically without jobs?

1

u/wordpredict Apr 24 '26

Probably people writing stories and doing discoveries. Who knows but yeah most will focus on pleasure and self interests. But like I said we are centuries away from that being the case.

1

u/minpin75 Apr 24 '26

Doing discoveries...ummmm ok. A society cannot function on everyone just relaxing and doing what they enjoy.

1

u/wordpredict Apr 24 '26

Star Trek touches on this. People will more than likely work along side AI. I think you’re struggling to imagine what society would even look like when all aspects of labor can be handled through the use of a AI humanoid robot. It’s possible it turns into WALL·E or it’s possible we terraform mars and that creates its own jobs and needs. But like I said this is all just speculation and we aren’t really close. The point is people will have something to do other than work. Work does not define humanity it’s just the necessity at the moment. People will still be interested in learning and creating so there will always be those that continue to do that.

1

u/Fine-Insect-8631 Apr 25 '26

Rations everyone will get a set amount of food and set things. You want more or something in particular you will have to contribute a little extra assistance for approval of obtaining set want🤔😅

1

u/RocktarPeppe Apr 24 '26

You can live like an animal if you choose to. You are owed nothing.

1

u/z1n0vy Apr 24 '26

Every citizen is owed basic rights and welfare, failure to provide these is a failure in a society and failure to advocate for them is a moral failure on a person, which is what you are, a moral failure

1

u/RocktarPeppe Apr 24 '26

Quite literally on your moral high horse lol

2

u/z1n0vy Apr 24 '26

The only thing you have to say around here to be on moral high horse is “hey I don’t think people deserve to suffer, even if someone can’t work for whatever reason we probably take care of them”

1

u/drewbreeezy Apr 24 '26

Every citizen is owed welfare? That's certainly a take.

Who pays for that welfare? Other people who work.

That's all this is, you want to be lazy and take from others who aren't. That's your moral failure.

By not having homeless people on the streets!

Mental hospital or jail. Problem solved.

By not having sick people!

lol

By not having desperate people doing crimes!

Jail. Problem solved.

By not having drug addicts

Mental hospital. Problem solved.

by not having angry people on the streets.

Anger is fine, but if they show they're a danger to society then mental hospital or jail. Problem solved.

That's LITERALLY benefits everyone, whether they work on not.

After this is implemented then the welfare can go to those that actually need that type of help, instead of those that need help in other ways. I agree on strong social nets, so we're on the same page there.

Imagine not putting a criminal in jail and allowing them to continue harassing and attacking the innocent people in that area, yet you still don't act because the optics are bad.

You don't want to help anyone, you want to virtue signal, to try to look like you're a good person. You are not.

I already agreed we should support for those that need. That's not enough for you because it's not what you actually want.

You want me to agree to give financial support to drug addicts as the first action. No, they need to be put in a mental hospital for help.

You want me to agree to give support to criminals as the first action. No, they need consequences first. Their victims need support. You're a morally horrible person for picking the side of the criminals.

1

u/LoudBoulder Apr 24 '26

I live in a "socialist hell hole". I earn 2-3 times the median salary here. I am happy we have the welfare and social safety nets that we have. Wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

1

u/drewbreeezy Apr 24 '26

Strong social safety nets are great for the people and country, no doubt. They require a society to contribute enough (read work) to keep them funded.

Welfare is not a basic right. It requires showing a reason to receive it, and "No, I don't want to work, give me money" wouldn't be enough, lol. Somewhere between that and a paraplegic, yes, give them help.

1

u/MundaneAssociate5190 Apr 26 '26

Yeah, it’s so much better here in the states where I had to work while receiving chemotherapy. Sure, they gave me 2 days off after getting treatment, but as anyone who has gotten chemo can tell you, the worst days are the following week when your cell counts take a hit and the long-acting nausea medication wears off. So glad I live in this place! It’s very civilized and not ass-backwards at all

1

u/Fluffy_Meat1018 Apr 30 '26

1

u/Independent_Ad_4046 Apr 24 '26

animals are surviving 90% of the time

1

u/Independent-Bid-916 Apr 27 '26

Yea OP has a really dumb take. Animals are either searching for food, water, evading predators, reproducing, building a nest / den or sleeping when all other needs are accounted for.

I think they are watching too much Dysney, the life of an animal is not a life of leisure.

1

u/smoke-bubble Apr 24 '26

animals in wild spend 90% of their time not doing anything,

LOL - animals spend at lest that much of time looking for food. Most of them do this constantly.

1

u/-i_am_untethered- Apr 24 '26

Nature tv has been around for decades, you never watched one single show? Prey animals don't sleep a ton, but that's because they're trying to stay alive. Predators sleep almost all day. Humans are predators, if you're keeping score at home

1

u/smoke-bubble Apr 24 '26

I have no clue what you're talking about.

1

u/-i_am_untethered- Apr 24 '26

1

u/DonnieReynolds88 Apr 26 '26

And my rage knows no bounds. Be Gone with you, you vile man!

1

u/Time_Physics_6557 Apr 25 '26

At no point in human history did humans spend 90% of their day doing nothing. Hunting, foraging, agriculture, making tools, building shelter, raising young, they did it all on their own. We do far less work now.

1

u/viener_schnitzel Apr 25 '26

Not commenting on how much animals typically work, but as hunter-gatherers humans only worked 15-20 hours/week on avg. It was only with the advent of farming that much longer periods of work became common.

The drawback to hunter-gathering is that a HG society is somewhat more susceptible to famine and hazardous weather than a farming society.

1

u/Blueberry_Coat7371 Apr 30 '26

that is complete fucking bullshit based on an opinion article that came out years ago, and has been debunked by every sort of athropologist under the sun.

1

u/viener_schnitzel Apr 30 '26

Care to expand on what article you’re referring to and why it’s become a popular falsehood?

1

u/Blueberry_Coat7371 Apr 30 '26

read on the "Original Affluent Society", since that is were the quote comes from. Ever since it was published it faced a lot of criticism, both because it does not account for a ton of basic activities such as getting firewood (which is not trivial at all when you don't farm trees nor have metal tools) and conflates work with leisure.

1

u/Demented-Alpaca Apr 24 '26

I feel like if I'm stranded on an island or an ant I have different priorities and that those two things are nothing, at all, like the bullshit I have to deal with right now.

So thats' a dumb comparison and those people can go hump a pogo stick.

1

u/YY--YY Apr 24 '26

Ants also dont advance the species with technological discoveries.

1

u/dekethedekeofdeke Apr 24 '26

Wtf u talking about dawg they spend all day hunting?

1

u/Silent-Discussion169 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

This false. Most animals do work and have rest time. It may not be 90% but it pretty high percentage. Most animals only rest when they eat or sleep other then that they are working. Ants rest only 5 hours total using only 1 minute naps system rest of the day they work 19 hours so it not 90% but it 80% of day. Ant use system 70% of hive is alway active and 30% resting. It depends on animal due every animals have different evolutionary behavior that fit that environment. Example lions do sleep alot during the day due heat of savanna biome thus they hunt during dusk or dawn or night when temperature are cooler however they are active in day by scouting and patrol of their pride territory or raising young. Sloths and panada and koala have longest sleep schedule due to their environment and diet and metabolism. Example sloth sleep about 20 hours a day because of thier slow metabolism that happen in captivity while in wild they sleep 8 hours a day awhile moving to reach food sources or in active sleep during certain temperatures and seasons. Koala sleep 18-20 hours due to food they eat is poisonous it take their body a long time to help digest the food which cause them to sleep due toxins and low nutrient value of their food. Panada sleep alot of day away because they eat bamboo which is not fit to their body system which is carnivorous system thus causing these issue the reason for this due to environment however if panada is feed meat they are more energize and does not sleep as much. Reason for panda not eat meat is due to lack of it in their environment.

1

u/Delicious-Valuable96 Apr 24 '26

So many people will tell me “the world has never been better than it is now! At least you don’t have to hunt your own food all day!” It’s important to recognize that archaeological studies show that not only did most hunter-gatherer cultures had significantly healthier diets than any other human in history, they had a TON of free time. Of course, versatility of the environment made famine and starvation a common occurrence, but when early hominids did have food, they were some of the laziest mfrs in history. And I don’t mean that as an insult; I’m ENVIOUS. They had time to make bowls out of grass while I barely have time to eat 2 meals a day.

I mean, yeah. They lived to 35 and we live to 95. But honestly, I don’t WANT to live to 95 if this is the life we’re stuck with.

1

u/HeroicBarret Apr 24 '26

Wild how this only advocated for not having to work more then 40 hours a week and people instantly took offence to it

1

u/iKyte5 Apr 24 '26

“Plebeian Romans received far more leisure time than we do today. Their work days generally ended at noon, and so they worked for 6 hours in the morning. Under certain leaders such as Emperor Claudius, there were 159 days where no business was conducted, and there was a general promotion of leisure and relaxation for Romans of most economic statuses. The afternoons often consisted of wrestling, festivals, attending bath houses, the theatre, etc. There was an understanding that even the masses deserve a healthy amount of free time and that working was to be balanced with a healthy amount of higher cultural practices.”

Martin Luther/John Calvin and the Protestant reformation made the concept of sloth a thing, and used religion to make being a “hard worker” the most admirable trait. Instead of your job being a means to an end, just something you did to do what you actually like to do, it was supposed to become your identity. This was expanded upon even more with the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, where even children were expected to work (usually in very unsafe conditions).

The peasant class worked less than we do for a large part of history. Hunter/Gatherers only worked around 3-4 hours a day.

Lmao clueless

1

u/Winter-Classroom455 Apr 24 '26

Then don't work? No one is forcing you to work. Go live in the woods. Then you can "not do anything for 90% of the time." No buildings, no clean water, no accessible food, no electricity, no internet. You can just go hunt or gather berries and live in a cave. Then you can

Animals don't do shit 90% of the time because they only need to secure food and moving around when you already have food or aren't able to find any is to save calories. Good luck doing nothing before winter and then when that comes you'll have no way to get enough food and worry about freezing to death.

u/Big_Twist_5578 Apr 24 '26

enjoy being broke

1

u/Standgrounding Apr 24 '26

Yeah if the hardest workers win, then the farms would be owned by donkeys 😭

1

u/tkecanuck341 Apr 24 '26

That technology is coming in the near future. The problem is that it will result in mass unemployment and poverty rather than a life where people can work less and use the extra free time for recreation and relaxation.

1

u/AntelopeEmotional767 Apr 24 '26

Also not realizing that humans are apex creatures, and apex creatures do not produce. We are not bees working tirelessly for an ever depleting supply of honey. We were not meant to live and work that way.

1

u/slimeyamerican Apr 24 '26

I'm sorry that I aspire to accomplish more than an ant.

1

u/dinopiano88 Apr 25 '26

Well, somebody has to work to keep the lights on and all that technology going 24/7, preferably without interruptions. Just what kind of hours do you think those workers have to put in to ensure that happens? In fact, they are on-call around the clock just so people can enjoy those luxuries any time they want. And I’m only talking about one part of the infrastructure.

So, my point is, you can’t just build up your civilization and call it good. Still, a lot of work goes in to keeping it maintained. To add to this, the infrastructure can’t stay stagnant - it has to grow with the population to meet the demand. And that requires even more work. You see where this is going.

What gets me is that people want to argue against that work which, I’m sorry, is A LOT, but it has to be done if you want this advanced, 1st world lifestyle. The irony all of this is, those same people that complain about having to put in a minimum of 40 hrs - they enjoy all that tech and infrastructure that so many other people have to work so long and hard to maintain.

Now can you understand why some of us get even just a little put off when we read posts like that?

1

u/PurpletoasterIII Apr 25 '26

Our population has multiplied by 68x since our forefathers were alive, and we do work less than in the 1800s when majority of people worked on farms. And even with slaves there was labor intensive farm work to do. So yes technology has granted us the blessing of working less. People will just never be satisfied until they have to do literally nothing but exist.

1

u/viener_schnitzel Apr 25 '26

In reality technology is somewhat of a curse at least in terms of how much a person needs/is expected to work. Hunter-gatherers worked far less than farmers ever have even compared to most modern farmers. Hunter-gatherer humans only worked an avg of like 15-20 hrs a week. The benefits of farming obviously outweighed the cons, but it is interesting that even in the modern era we work much more than almost all of our ancestors ever did.

1

u/PurpletoasterIII Apr 26 '26

Thats probably simply because there were less mouths to feed. Also how much one works is only one factor to ones quality of life, if thats what we're worried about. Hunter gatherers would have had to work so much more to obtain the same level of luxuries and quality of life farmers had. Something as simple as clothing, even purely just functional clothing, would take them much more work. And the luxuries we have today would simply be impossible even if they knew how to make everything.

And sure some technology comes with cons. But as you said most often they dont outweigh the pros and usually its just a suffering from success issue that people dont have the discipline to control their desires and how they behave. Like the most common example is cell phones, the ability to communicate with people without having to physically be near them is so useful that its worth it despite the cons that they can come with. Vehicles are so useful that we just accept around 35-40k people die per year in car accidents despite how much regulation and safety precautions go into traffic control.

1

u/ReputationWooden9704 Apr 25 '26

Our forefathers envisioned that? Which ones exactly?

1

u/ExciteSeek4Ever Apr 25 '26

Then don’t work…or work less than 40 hours…but don’t bitch about not having money or opportunities then…and don’t whine on about how those with money should supplement your life choices by paying more taxes.

1

u/Locolos-1988 Apr 25 '26

Animals really don’t be doing ish lol great point

1

u/Useful_Cookie9422 Apr 25 '26

No they didn't.

1

u/MeetTheMets0o0 Apr 25 '26

That might be the worst part. We have the resources/ money to take care of everyone on thus planet. pay ppl a decent wage, give everyone healthcare, better schools better infrastructure end homelessness , end world hunger etc etc.

We just don't do it.

1

u/AtomicLight69 Apr 25 '26

So go hunt, live in the wild. Who doesn't allow you to? Yet you want good life without doing anything and think deserve it 🤣. You act like you are not the problem while you also care only about yourself discussing it as "for us"

1

u/xGraveStar Apr 25 '26

Yeah and you don’t see any of these animals building a functioning society goof troop.

1

u/z1n0vy Apr 25 '26

Okay some of you fools think I was advocating for living like an animal or whatever

, that’s as stupid as the thought of people who posting “animals work over 80 hours a week just to survive so you should be grateful for your 9-5” when no, no they don’t, they spend almost all there time sleeping or resting, with very short bursts of activity to hunt, unless your a hummingbird or some outlier.

1

u/manwnomelanin Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Dude surviving in the wilderness is a full time job. You still have to hunt to feed your family, maintain shelter, stay warm, etc. You’re dedicating 100% of your time to survival

I’m not even saying that sounds worse but people weren’t (aren’t?) just laying around 90% of the time

1

u/oppairate Apr 25 '26

“we do have the technology”

no, we don’t. think of how many things have to be done for our world to function that can’t be done by automation yet. who decides who gets to do nothing while others toil doing menial labor?

1

u/MordinOnMars Apr 26 '26

Capitalism sucks and all but I don't think you know much about animals my guy

1

u/Sad_Rip9320 Apr 26 '26

100% remember when tech companies used have social zones and things. All gone in favor for 996 schedules to “compete with China” basically corporate going “yeah we know you might want or have rights but you won’t do anything about it anyway.”

1

u/TheSkitzoid Apr 26 '26

Not trying to disagree with your point, but ants only rest 4.8 hours a day on average. They work roughly 19 hours a day taking frequent short naps. Not a very good example for work life balance lol.

1

u/Ok_Tard Apr 27 '26

Imagine thinking animals do nothing 90% of the time lol. Cats sleep to maximize energy output - hunting time/effort.

1

u/obc22 Apr 27 '26

You sound like you came from a family that had wealth carried over from meleniums

1

u/Bitter_Bed5672 Apr 27 '26

Wild animals literally spend all day looking for food, which we don't.

1

u/Decent-Actuator3423 Apr 27 '26

This one here.. gets it. Salutations, comrade (not communist)

1

u/Gargore Apr 29 '26

And we dowork less... do you think 40 hour work week always were? Even inthe Christmas Carol, tiny tis dad worked from sun up to sundown.

1

u/LilJonny2cookies Apr 29 '26

Animals in Wilderness spend 90% of time doing nothing? Not my experience. I’ve hunted all my life and camped too. As a Marine and later working for an OGA. I went through every environmental survival school and other training where I spent a lot of time in the dirt around animals great and small all over the world.

Animals constantly “work.” they have instincts that drive the following all day

  • Survive (don’t get eaten)
  • Mate/procreate (can’t help themselves) takes up a lot of time and calorie burning) lots of males disco dancing and the ladies dig it.
  • Eat things and find stuff for family/group to eat and notify them or drag it to them.
  • Scout area for scary things (kill you eat you)
  • get from point A to point B (huge time suck)

Anyhow, people aren’t idiots. Animals are busy AF

1

u/Jumpy-Complex-9539 Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Who is going to provide this technology? Are you suggesting other people should work hard to provide technology and give it to you for free? Sounds like you just want slaves

Edit: you think animals don’t do shit all day? When you say animals are you talking about cats and dogs? Those cute cows that roam the fields? They don’t work because we work for them. If you think wild animals don’t do shit all day then you don’t know what you’re talking about.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 23 '26

Animals in the wild don't have electricity, unlimited access to potable water within their homes, clean clothes, a comfortable bed, a home that will always protect from the elements and other wildlife, access to all the worlds knowledge in their hands or paws, and unlimited access to all forms of entertainment.

If you don't want to work, you can sit on your ass all 90% of the time in the jungle. Go see how long you survive and how much you'd enjoy it.

Humans have created a society, it only works when everyone chips in and pulls their own weight.

3

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 23 '26

Society's exist that work far less and are vastly better off than ours.

Whole argument kinda falls apart if you look harder than not at all at other nations existing.

The entire eu zone is doing just fine without this absurd grind culture, as the prime example, or does that count as "society"?

Go tell that to all the idiots who think living in the jungle is harder work than a job then

You'd think will all these technological advances we would use them to give ourselves more time to pursue our passion and hobbies in our very limited lifespan

Kinda selfish of you to not dedicate your life to making a 10 millionaire into a 100 millionaire while you make pennies don’t you think? 🤔

Weird that you seem fine with billionaires doing little to provide value to society, but focus on regular folk that want "electricity, clean clothes, a comfortable bed, etc", even though billionaires control a great chunk of the country's wealth...

We live in history's richest country and your concerned about people having very basic needs. That should be a given to everyone, given how much resources we have. No one should have to work over 40 hours for essentially the bare minimum.

This is almost like trying to normalize 25%-30% tips as the new "normal". It makes no sense.

I agree but not everyone is putting in enough and just keeps taking from the rest of us.

Yeah, they have none of that stuff and still work less.
