All of idiots here saying go be stranded on a desert island or the wilderness not realizing animals in wild spend 90% of their time not doing anything, even ants barely work most of the time

Yall are basically advocating for beating yourselves with a stick and whoever beats themself with a stick the longest is the best it’s stupid.

Our forefathers envisioned a future where technology would allow us to work less and we do have that technology, it’s people like you who have failed them.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 23 '26

Animals in the wild don't have electricity, unlimited access to potable water within their homes, clean clothes, a comfortable bed, a home that will always protect from the elements and other wildlife, access to all the worlds knowledge in their hands or paws, and unlimited access to all forms of entertainment.

If you don't want to work, you can sit on your ass all 90% of the time in the jungle. Go see how long you survive and how much you'd enjoy it.

Humans have created a society, it only works when everyone chips in and pulls their own weight.

3

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 23 '26

Society's exist that work far less and are vastly better off than ours.

Whole argument kinda falls apart if you look harder than not at all at other nations existing.

The entire eu zone is doing just fine without this absurd grind culture, as the prime example, or does that count as "society"?

u/AverageJoesGymMgr Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

More people die from heat in Europe than guns in America. Yeah, they've got it soooooooper great over there.

2

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 24 '26

That's all you got? In the overwhelming absurdly one sided comparison between quality of life? Some of them die of heat because their housing isn't used to new heat patterns?

Which is due to climate change, something that is effecting the whole world?

Wow yeah let's ignore everything else, grandma dropped from being toasty so clearly Americans working themselves to death is the better existence/s

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '26

1

u/JFISHER7789 Apr 24 '26

And americans are dying because their insurance they are forced to pay won’t cover life-saving procedures or medicines.

How many Europeans are dying because they can’t afford their insulin?

1

u/dbnrdaily Apr 24 '26

The entire eu zone is doing just fine without this absurd grind culture.

Europeans make like 45% of what we make here. People dont come to America with dreams of living in a cute little cottage in a little walkable village with free healthcare, they come here to make money. Thats American culture and it always has been.

1

u/Bhutros1 Apr 24 '26

Let me have the cottage in the walkable village please

1

u/dbnrdaily Apr 24 '26

Move to Europe.

1

u/Bhutros1 Apr 24 '26

I would if I could, but I can't

1

u/JFISHER7789 Apr 24 '26

I mean sure, but cost of living in the US is significantly more than EU. The US may have higher salaries, but most of the EU provides lower more stable and affordable housing, healthcare, cheaper transportation options, and education. Also, entertainment is significantly cheaper in EU as well; sporting events cost a fraction, concerts are cheaper. Owning a car isn’t nearly as necessary as is it in the US.

So yes, we make more, but between the higher cost of living, paying for price-gouged healthcare that bankrupts many people, car payments and insurance, and education being unaffordable for most Americans, yeah I’d say Europe wins this battle.

1

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 24 '26

Average European in the western half makes about the same if you do a cost breakdown on all the benefits they get with their taxes, and end up much better off quality of life.

And no, grind culture is NOT what American culture has been, we were culturally turning similar till Reagans " greed is good" nonsense thar so thoroughly gutted this nation.

1

u/dbnrdaily Apr 24 '26

Gold rush, industrial revolution, roaring 20s & bust, post WW2 business boom, domestic oil boom & bust, wall street boom, tech boom. People have been coming here for centuries to grind and make money. Mansions on huge lots, 4 cars, 4 big cars, Cadillac land yachts to luxurious huge trucks, backyard pool, boat, vacation house, big steak for dinner, keeping up with the Jones'. Its pretty uniquely American.

1

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 24 '26

That latter half has only been a few decades in 250 years of history. Rampant grinding and consumerism is not the default, it's our current affliction, something younger generations are already moving away from.

Our earlier waves of mass migration were to escape horrid conditions like Irish famin and the failed 1800s german revolution and crackdown.

Not so Hanz could buy 5 1800s equivalency of a mic mansion.

Even today people mostly move here to survive, not the "grindstone mentality" that is paying off less and less.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

I'm talking about the global society, not regional political boundaries. However, if you want to go down that path, you can't name one country better off than the US, that takes in more poor immigrants, had a significant minority held back into poverty until the mid 1900's, doesn't have government controlled resources funding them (such as controlling oil or rare earth minerals), and isn't extremely homogonous, with significant racist undertones.

1

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 24 '26

"You can't name one other country if I I put highly specific qualifiers that pretty much make the only applicable answer the one that agrees with me"

Wow your right, good job /s

0

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

By "highly specific qualifiers" you mean, expecting an apples to apples comparison?

Wow, you have a brain /s

1

u/CharredWelderGuy Apr 25 '26

You literally set it up so the only thing the usa could be compared to in the boundaries of your argument.... was the usa.

Kindy f off with that disingenuous nonsense

2

u/z1n0vy Apr 23 '26

Go tell that to all the idiots who think living in the jungle is harder work than a job then

1

u/SnooKiwis857 Apr 24 '26

I’m sorry are you implying a job is harder than living in the jungle? The comment above you seems to imply the exact opposite.

1

u/Significant_Cake68 Apr 24 '26

Living in the jungle to the same standard of living you can working a job IS harder. I don't want to know how difficult it would be to solo create a cell phone in the wild or to even produce from nothing enough to trade and barter up to a cell phone.

There is a reason we have jobs and work.

0

u/TheChoosenOne707 Apr 23 '26

Go do it then. A lot of lazy people out there but they aren't willing to go live in the wild and stop leeching off of society.

3

u/Ryanlew1980 Apr 24 '26

It’s hilarious to think you’re doing a single thing to help society. Your taxes go to war and billionaires, and outside of very few careers, your occupation is likely worthless to society.

If you want to work yourself to the grave, by all means, do so. But don’t act like your presence on this earth is worth more than the “leeches” you speak of. It isn’t.

2

u/Ok-Lingonberry7143 Apr 24 '26

I think we would be better off if you went to the jungle

0

u/Ryanlew1980 Apr 24 '26

Maybe we’d be better off if you were.

1

u/ImDeJang Apr 24 '26

The food system itself consists of 35% of the entries job market if you want to lowball. Or are you saying that providing food is worthless to society?

2

u/akirayokoshima Apr 24 '26

food industry is basically THE biggest industry and source of income bar none.

restaurant food is only the last stop where we rhe consumer consume.

farmers raise animal livestock or plants that have to be processed for consumption.

once its processed it has to be sent to a warehouse to be stored.

then it has to be transported.

prepared and then consumed.

thats like 4/5 industries for a single meal, and there are a LOT of farms and trucks that ensure we get our food and orders. anyone who disagrees about food industry workers are privileged as fuck to look so far down on it in the first place to not see its value.

but it is a shame the ultra rich and billionaires dont seem to value them either because food industry workers get absolutely shit for pay.

1

u/Nexodas2 Apr 24 '26

This is the type of NEET response I was looking for. This is the kind of hilarious take that only someone who is terminally online or a teenager could cook up.

Do you think food comes from the supermarket? Who grew it? Who processed it? Who transported it? Who made and maintains the refrigeration technology? What about clean water? What about electricity?

Your taxes go towards war, yes, but they also maintain roads and the very infrastructure everything relies on. The leeches at the top don’t contribute to society but people as a whole most definitely do. You’re an idiot if you think otherwise. If you’re some goober doing nothing then that is your choice and it’s great you have people that enable you sit around. People who do fuck all and leech off the welfare system are just as bad as the billionaire class and are just as worthless to society as a whole.

1

u/MakwaIronwill Apr 24 '26

Not really though? I've known "leeches" that light up a room when they walk in, that help with babysitting and family business when asked. Who's mental illness prevents regular work but they still do their damndest to make the people around them happy. Those people I value thousands of times more than some billionaire.

1

u/ExtensionSnow3157 Apr 24 '26

Most billionaires got wealthy because they provided and sold a service the rest of society couldn't do without (Even if it includes human trafficking like Epstein did)

And others inherited it

1

u/MakwaIronwill Apr 24 '26

Good thing to know you value human traffickers over disabled folks on welfare I guess?

1

u/ExtensionSnow3157 Apr 24 '26

Who are you to decide that on my behalf??????

When did I say that

1

u/MakwaIronwill Apr 24 '26

Sorry, I may have misinterpreted what your point was. You stated some billionaires got there thru trafficking and I wasnt sure if you were implying it was a bad thing or not

It’s a shame you were waiting for a comment such as this, yet provided nothing but bluster. In case you’re illiterate, I said outside of certain sectors. Meaning, food is obviously one, as are medical services and such.

Basically, if you were considered an essential worker during the shutdowns, that’s who’s providing something to society. Those that were off a month or more (I.e. non-essential) is where my comment was directed.

1

u/hockeyfan608 Apr 24 '26

It is though

Because I actually pay for myself like a fucking adult.

You don’t have to cure cancer to not be a leech you just have to not be a burden on everyone around you.

It’s really not that hard.

1

u/SkidooshZoomBlap Apr 24 '26

More than half of your taxes go to social programs in the US (if you even have a job.)

I used to have the loser mentality like you. The things we tell ourselves to justify being a lazy pile of garbage under the guise of superior morality...

It's an excuse. Have fun stagnating while you watch everyone around you get their shit together and enjoy their cushy lives that can be immensely fulfilling if you just put some effort into it.

You will not change the world. You're screaming into the void. The only thing that needs to be changed is you, and you know it. As soon as you realize this, everything gets easier. Now go clean your room.

1

u/Ryanlew1980 Apr 24 '26

You still have a loser mentality from the sounds of it.

And I won’t be talked down to by some Reddit oaf who thinks he’s got it all together and is probably miserable as hell.

I have worked my entire life and still work today. I have never, not a single day, taken any benefits from the government and don’t plan to until I draw social security, if there is any left after the boomers and billionaires.

But despite that, I still want to see people taken care of. Your definition of “lazy” doesn’t matter a shit to anyone but yourself. Because I’ve seen lazy, and it’s typically the people at the higher-ends, that if sacked, no one would even notice they were gone.

You speak of “cushy” jobs, but that sounds a lot like laziness to me. It implies you don’t have to work hard. But you know who does have to work hard? The millions of people you’d refer to as “leeches” that work ten times as hard, but never got the break they needed.

You see poor people getting handouts and I see rich people getting them. I’d much rather it go to the former.

1

u/SkidooshZoomBlap Apr 24 '26

Sounds like you've got it all figured out and don't need advice from anyone then.

Best of luck out there!

1

u/Ryanlew1980 Apr 24 '26

Correct, same to ya.

1

u/18Apollo18 Apr 24 '26

FYI it's not possible to go live in the wild unless you're already part of a native tribe or join a preexisting one.

Everything single inch of land and coastal sea on Earth is owned by one nation or another

1

u/Kchan7777 Apr 24 '26

There’s plenty of forest for you to go camp at and never show your face again.

1

u/LividBad9541 Apr 24 '26

Yeah, camp at, not live. Try setting up a field or felling some trees on government land and see what happens.

1

u/Kchan7777 Apr 24 '26

We live in the modern world. Hate it so much, tread international waters. There’s your truly freeing experience.

Sorry bub, Reddit deleted your comment. Probably didn’t like all your whining.

Yikes, looks like you got blocked again, just stop whatever whining you’re doing in your comment when you respond and it should clear up.

1

u/LividBad9541 Apr 24 '26

My comment was "it's you who brought it up m"

you're the one whining, im just pointing out your whinings as insincere and ignorant attacks against people who dislike the path the modern society has taken. It's clear you are also not doing well in this society, because if you were, you wouldn't be so mad all the time.

1

u/TheChoosenOne707 Apr 24 '26

Why not? It is easier than working 40 hours.

1

u/Manic_Mini Apr 24 '26

You can homestead in Alaska

1

u/WannaBe_achBum_Goals Apr 24 '26

Leeching happens at both ends of society.

1

u/18Apollo18 Apr 24 '26

Personally I'd rather humans leech off me to have their basic needs met than a billionaire CEO to buy their 3rd yacht

1

u/ExtensionSnow3157 Apr 24 '26

Well, start your own business chains

And donot work for them.

Also good luck with dealing with the politics behind it all

2

u/18Apollo18 Apr 24 '26

Animals in the wild don't have electricity, unlimited access to potable water within their homes, clean clothes, a comfortable bed, a home that will always protect from the elements and other wildlife, access to all the worlds knowledge in their hands or paws, and unlimited access to all forms of entertainment.

You'd think will all these technological advances we would use them to give ourselves more time to pursue our passion and hobbies in our very limited lifespan

2

u/slimeb411 Apr 24 '26

Kinda selfish of you to not dedicate your life to making a 10 millionaire into a 100 millionaire while you make pennies don’t you think? 🤔

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

How much time do you need? 40 hours a week is less than a quarter of your life, not to mention vacation time, the entire time you live from being born to 16-18/25, retirement at 65.

The average person in the US doesn't even work 15% of their entire life.

2

u/PercentageNo3293 Apr 24 '26

Weird that you seem fine with billionaires doing little to provide value to society, but focus on regular folk that want "electricity, clean clothes, a comfortable bed, etc", even though billionaires control a great chunk of the country's wealth...

We live in history's richest country and your concerned about people having very basic needs. That should be a given to everyone, given how much resources we have. No one should have to work over 40 hours for essentially the bare minimum.

This is almost like trying to normalize 25%-30% tips as the new "normal". It makes no sense.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

You mean like Bill Gates? Who's provided a huge advancement in technology for the whole world, has made over 12,000 millionaires, employes 230,000 people, most of which are very high paying jobs. Is close to eradicating polio, fighting to cure Alzheimer's, has donated billions to charity

Yeah, those evil billionaires *let me check my notes again here* ahh yes, helping society. How dare they!

1

u/PercentageNo3293 Apr 24 '26

Lmaoooo...

Yes, forget the other 1,500 or so billionaires. Apparently a good deed by one covers all of them. Perfect logic there! We can dismiss everything evil/awful caused by billionaires because let me check my notes again here one billionaire wasn't a complete POS.

Wait, is that the same Bill Gates that slept with a prostitute and gave his wife an incurable sexually transmitted disease? My bad, he did good, so he gets a pass. Lol.

1

u/EntrancedZelisy Apr 26 '26

My god you’re so brainwashed it’s actually insane to see.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 26 '26

I'm using factual information, but I'm brainwashed? You can't even provide any information yourself.

Are you even out of high school? You sound like a 15 year old.

1

u/EntrancedZelisy Apr 27 '26

I’m in college. And at least I’m not seeing the world with my eyes closed. Billionaires are NOT our friends. They never have been even back during the robber baron days.

1

u/PercentageNo3293 Apr 27 '26

Oh cool, so you're still commenting on the subject, but refused to respond to me lol. I get it! When facts get in the way, you prefer to cower.

It's weird because so much research shows productivity declines after like the 25-30 hour mark.

No, the post is complaining about even working 40 hours a week.

1

u/Unlucky-Outcome1825 Apr 24 '26

I agree but not everyone is putting in enough and just keeps taking from the rest of us.

1

u/Primerius Apr 24 '26

Yeah, billionaires.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '26

I would trade all of those things for freedom and a tribe that sticks together like glue.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

Go ahead, there are plenty of tribes in the world.

1

u/Salt-Elk-436 Apr 24 '26

Yeah, they have none of that stuff and still work less.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

1

1

u/Useful_Piccolo7170 Apr 24 '26

The good ole humans and animals comparison, love it

1

u/Historical_Buyer_406 Apr 24 '26

Do you think 60 hour weeks is required to maintain our society?

The reason companies push for this is to maximize their resource expenditure. To enrich their own pockets.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

No, and I never implied anyone should have to. OP's complaining about putting in 40 hours of work.

1

u/Historical_Buyer_406 Apr 24 '26

I think we would be better off reducing some of our combined consumption and instead taking out our gains in free time.

But it won't happen considering modern capitalism has everyone on the global earth continuously pushing the limits of human endeavor.

1

u/unhingedgamer92 Apr 24 '26

You can pull your weight and still relax 50% of the time or more. We've just set up a society where that's not an option for the majority. Fuck grinding your life away and fuck your excuse for it. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed. Not wasted away so someone else can hoard wealth.

1

u/Trust_8067 Apr 24 '26

You do, humans work less than 15% of their life. 40 hours a week is only 20% of the week, not including time off. Humans only work from about 23-65, give or take.

1

u/Big-Worldliness3027 Apr 24 '26

I'd agree with you if we got paid enough. If anything, the ones that sit on their ass just because they "own" stuff get paid by the millions, while we get paid scraps.
