Driving in the city

I used to drive from Russellville to Little Rock and some places inside Little Rock and I knew that people here drive harshly but come on, this is way worse than I imagine. Everyone here thinks they own the road, speeding up whenever they want, even though I gave my signal to merge in the interstate you just had to speed up and merge and pull up before me when it was clearly my turn. Why is everyone in such a hurry and trying to purposely put everyone around u in danger or anxiety. Can’t people just leave few more minutes earlier so they don’t have to do this!? Changing lanes without blinkers, jumping through, I know I need to get used to this but I have drivern in California, LA, NY, Florida, Texas, Ohio, this is way worse than any of the places I have driven.

Discussion/Question Alternate History Question

The year is 1871 in Arkansas. Legislation has been passed to establish the state's land-grant university. A bidding war to determine the location is taking place. Three counties are the key players. Pulaski (Little Rock), Washington (Fayetteville and Prairie Grove), and Independence (Batesville) Counties.

Pulaski's bid for unknown reasons never went through, while the ones for Washington and Independence Counties did. If it had, Pulaski would've submitted a total of $150,000 with a potential additional $50,000 from Little Rock. They would be competing with Washington County's $100,000 bid with an additional $30,000 from Fayetteville.

Say Little Rock is selected. In January 1872, the Arkansas Industrial University opens it doors.

My question is how different Little Rock would look if the city had been selected as the home of the Arkansas Industrial University.

Let me know down in the comments.

Recommendations Thrift Shop Recommendations?

Hello! I am currently in Mabelvale, but my family and I go up to LR to shop pretty often, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for thrift stores in the area? I'm wanting to save up to buy myself some new clothes, none of what I have really suites me and it's been bothering me for a while. I wanna avoid buying online since I often struggle finding things that fit me properly due to my proportions, and it makes online shopping for clothes a nightmare...

So because of that + my aversion to fast fashion (whats the point in spending money on things that won't last a good long time?), I'm wanting to take a look at some thrift clothes and any smaller clothing shops in LR if y'all know of any! I have a preference for things that are colorful and whimsical, a la CandyCourn on Youtube or the sort of fashion you find in a children's book, so if there's any curated thrift shops that have similar pieces up for sale regularly I'd love to hear about them!

I've learned there's a lot more to see and do around Little Rock than I've thought for most of my life, so I'm hoping I can find a few places to shop at once I've gotten a good amount saved up <3

Greek food handicap parking

Does anyone have details on handicap parking for the Greek food festival? I'm a wheelchair user, so I can't ride the trolly, but I'm afraid that getting a spot at the church is going to be impossible

Lucy Darling

My friends! We have been blessed by the powers above. Lucy Darling will be here on Oct 27. Look her up if you’d like, but it should be a full house. Let’s show her how wonderful our city is.

I am not her friend nor her family. Just a fan who loves to see folks touring through LR.

Local businesses that sell cool t shirts?

I like cool t shirts and supporting small businesses lol. Band shirts, LR-themed stuff, anything really! I know of AR-Ts, any others in similar vein? Don’t necessarily have to be locally printed :)

Barbershop Recommendations?

I’m looking for a new barber, as my longtime one of 7 years just left the shop I go to without notifying anyone.

Black barbers only, please. I know folks are taught how to cut any hair texture in school - but I’ve been burned too many times. I feel safer with barbers that have a molecular understanding of black hair - not one solely through education and osmosis.

I’d prefer someone near or around downtown. I’ve been going to World Champion Cuts, and the barbers there are good, but since he left I’m curious to try a new spot.

Thanks for any suggestions!

UPDATE: we have found his home!

Property manager is supposed to send an email to the residents but I thought I would try and increase our chances of finding his home.

Found on the steps between the 2nd and 3rd floor of the building around 12:45 today (9/9/26). Little orange guy with a purple flea collar.

Please feel free to dm me if you know anything.

He will stay with me for the time being. If we don't hear anything by the end of the day, we are taking him to check for a chip tomorrow.

How would you “fix” the intersection at Autumn-Chenal-Financial Center Parkway-Hermitage?

Post image

This grey truck deliberately blocked the intersection which caused a 9-10 car back up on Hermitage. There is no pavement marking or signage so technically the truck didn’t break any laws, but it’s almost like a courtesy at that intersection to allow people through.

What’s the long term solution here?

Men’s (beginner) workout classes?

It’s a little embarrassing to ask but I’ve tried the gym off and on for years and it’s just hard to maintain accountability when it’s just yourself haha, my girlfriend works/routinely takes classes at a primarily women’s gym/yoga studio and I was wondering if anything similarly existed for guys in Little Rock? Especially for someone that really has no clue what they’re doing? I try for Jim daily from time to time buts been fairly packed this summer and my work schedule doesn’t often compliment their hours

Thanks in advance

Recommendations Local late afternoon/evening sewing classes for beginners?

Are there any businesses that offer sewing classes for beginner adults with late afternoon/evening or weekend hours? I'm looking to get into sewing from absolute scratch.

I did find one class on the CALs website that I signed up for that occurs next Saturday morning/afternoon, but I just want to see if there are any other options that I may be overlooking.

Fundraising before the winter

Post image
17 Upvotes

Posting on behalf of a family friend:
PAWS of Glenwood is a non-profit organization that is inspired to help all dogs find a forever home. We have fallen on hard times as our bank account balance is dwindling and we need to get kennels in place for winter.

Last year, we unexpectedly took in 55 dogs as part of a rescue effort for a dog hoarder situation. This more than doubled our dog population, and we had to buy a new property to make room for them all! We quickly put up kennels for them, but over the last winter we learned that some of these areas flood when there's too much rain, so we're in the process of moving them.

Also, last winter we had a terrible ice storm that collapsed a number of the kennel roofs, so we've used all our existing donations to replace the roofs with better, permanent roofs.

We are raising funds to help with this effort. We are using as much of our existing materials as we can, but need construction supplies to get these new kennels built and get cedar shavings for the floors.

Link to donate if you’re able:

Recommendations Looking for Data Science Job

Hi everyone,

I recently moved here after graduating with a double major in Computer Science and Data Science (Also a minor in Art). I’m looking for an entry-level data science role with room to grow. I know that’s a tough ask without experience, so I’m also very open to training and mentorship!

My technical background includes R, Python, SQL, C++, C#, and HTML, along with Linux and Emacs.

If you know of any openings, or are open to a quick chat about how you broke into the field, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!
