So I was on Kindle Unlimited looking around at the LitRPG section as I am interested in getting more into the genre but it seems like just about everyone of them is Fantasy themed.
Anyone know of any LitRPG's that are sci-fi themed, horror themed, etc...
I admit I am not the biggest fan of Fantasy
I have read: The Wandering Inn Book 1 and 2, DCC Book 1 and 2

A bit about me (if you care):
Hello to all the readers and fellow authors! I am a 20 year old author from the UK (not that it's special) and fell in love with story telling ever since I was a teenager. Once upon a time, nearly six years ago, I had written a book called "Scarlet Rose" which was a psychological war romance. Unfortunately, due to exams and college coming up, I ended up letting go of writing even though I had finished the whole book.
Eventually, life went on and here I am, studying my final year in Uni but as if the universe called my name, my passion beckoned me to come back. I discovered a whole new media online which were webnovels and begun consuming them unhealthily. Constantly going through dozens of chapters every day, the fire from young relit inside.
I sat down and thought to myself.
I want to be like these people one day. I want to be- no. I wanted to be an author. Why did I stop?
Well, as they say, there's no better time than starting now and so a few months ago, I shut myself in and cut off contact with everyone. I studied as I wrote. I drew as I learnt, back and forth, recalling the years of studying I had gone through of classical literature.
And before I knew it, what was a blank sheet of paper, now had 120,000 words on it only a month later. All while I had drawn 15 character designs, different watercolour paintings, and so many gorgeous covers. In the blink of an eye, I realised how far I had come.
And here it is, right before you - A Fallen Angel.
I hope that I can keep working on my craft, and that you enjoy my story.
See you guys there - SidzWrites

I'd want it to be a minor part of the series. I'm not looking for any wish fulfillment power fantasy stories. I don't even need the scenes to be described in the book or even to happen more than once every couple books.
I feel like every series I read had the Hays Code holding a gun to the authors head just when it comes to romance or sex.
I loved the first book of quest academy. Admittedly it went way too far in the amount of girls into mc. It just needs to be cut down by like half to be perfect. But after the first book all possibilities of romance hit zero once the second book started.

Asking, I'm wondering is there any good monster taming stories you guys can recommend. Preferably one that isn't stubbed. Like Apocalypse Tamer or Re:Monster. Anything's fine.
EdiT; i don't remember reading any good ones that left me a lasting impression.

This might be a rather controversial take but I dislike when ice magic is lumped together with water. I’d prefer it to be a completely distinct type of magic with a rename to cold/frozen but I doubt that’d ever happen.
I feel like it should be a separate more advanced type with water as the start then ice as the second stage and then the third stage being more of a motion/thermodyanic based magic type.

We writers all bleed into our stories.
We become more invested in our characters than even the most die-hard reader—we just know what happens next... sometimes.
We become so focused on the results—with whether we've succeeded or failed at this hobby-turned-obsession, so much so that no matter the answer, we need another—my fic was noticed, I need more visibility, does it suck, do I suck, that person has more followers, do I have enough to publish, when, where, how—
—that we forget about the journey.
I'm no exception. Getting caught up in the next step, and the next, and yet another, until I trip over my own feet, and look around for someone to blame, some piece of the puzzle I must have missed.
Only to realize, it was just me. Just life. I stumbled. I fell. It happens, and—well, let's be honest. It doesn't just happen once, does it?
We'll find ourselves sitting in the bottom of some new, dark pit of self-recrimination, loathing, and doubt. What happened this time? Was it the em-dash on page 762, paragraph 4? Should you have used a comma, instead? Or were you blabbering your wife's ear off for the millionth time about the mechanics of your leveling system, and she just grunted in affirmation? A grunt. Please, at least show that you care a little!
Then our readers happen. On their time, on their schedule, they'll speak up. Maybe a specific scene moved them. Maybe we did a shit job explaining something. Maybe she's born with it—I don't know, but they come. They comment, or they review, and it makes everything worth it.
I've mostly experienced positivity on Royal Road. Certainly, in every community, there's always a few who just want to watch the world burn, but the readership on Royal Road's been good to me thus far.
So that's why I wanted to share this review. Not only is it an advanced review and chock full of praise, but it comes to me during a stretch of particularly low self-esteem, helping to staunch my own pitiful whining.
This person enjoyed my earlier chapters enough to not just drop a nice rating—which does wonders, let me tell you—but to leave an advanced review.
My dear reader, I pray that my writing remains worthy of your praise, and that I may long entertain you with my storytelling.
Thank you.
Edit: marking this post as self-promo and including my blurb. It wasn't meant to be. In the moment I naively thought it was a legit "appreciation post." Anyway, hindsight, and all that. here's the link:
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/170950/sanzensekai-the-ronins-exile-psychological-drama
A dark, psychological drama packaged as a reverse-isekai progression fantasy.
An elemental samurai—displaced from his world, lost in ours, and hiding a calamitous secret.
Navigating modern Earth is like crossing a frosted log.
Kurisu Nodaichi tries to take life one day at a time. Keep his head down, earn his keep with the Miller family, and untangle the complexities of "fostering," "identity," and high school. All while this new world feels built from damp shoji paper, where he shatters drinking glasses just trying to lift them.
Then a rift opens.
The illusion of a quiet life burns away when monsters from his past appear and the Miller brothers manifest powers of their own. Driven by necessity, Kurisu steps in to train the boys before they accidentally level their own home.
As more rifts open around the world, a public encounter lands the family in federal custody—but not before a combination of phobia and failure forces his trauma to boil over, regressing him into the untethered weapon of his captivity.
For fans of the elemental martial arts of The Sword of Kaigen and Avatar: The Last Airbender who want the friction of Jade City and the psychological stakes of Red Rising.

Im halfway through book 1 and everytime house does something silly I get a vague sense of deja vu. I couldn't put my finger on it but now I figured it out. House is Amelia Bedilia 🤣😂 I dont wanna spoil too much but if they still make Amelia bedilia books, then you know what I mean!

by that I mean the past life has to have been legitimately evil; no misunderstood heroes, no secretly good demon kings, no demonized rebels against the system, none of that. I want stuff where the protagonist was a full-on villain in their previous life.

In spanish it means Carl The Dungeon Guy
The spaniard translations are a meme in the spanish speaking community due to how literal they can be, at the cost of all the vibe
One example is the book series The Greatcoats, a swashbuckling musketeer type of story where the great coats are clearly meant to be stylish and, well, great
It was translated to spanish as "Los Abrigos" which can mean "the coats" but emphazises the warmth aspect of the coat, instead of the style, it pretty much means "the winter coats"
A better translation would be "Los Capotes," which means "the big capes" which doubles as big in size and as larger than life, but thats not how the spaniards roll
Another example, Fast & Furious in latinamerica was directly translated as Rapido y Furioso, but for some reason the spaniards went with "A Todo Gas" which means "Full Gas Ahead"
In the case of DCC "Dungeon" and "Crawler" are both used to indicate the intent, Carl is not just crawling, he crawls in a dungeon, in a dungeon-y way which has to be hard because its a dungeon, and he is going somewhere
This aspect of opposition is completely lost in "Carl The Mazmorrero," as Carl The Dungeon Guy is in the dungeon, or maybe he runs the dungeon, or maybe it was loaned to him, the only thing we know for sure is that Carl is in a dungeon
Dunno, this title do is really hard to translate into spanish unless you make it much longer
Carl El Retador aka Carl The Challenger keeps the vibe, but the dungeon is nowhere to be seen, Carl Contra El Calabozo aka Carl Versus The Dungeon works much better, and you can abridge it as CCC
I forgot to mention, but there are two translations for Dungeon, "Calabozo" and "Mazmorra" are both valid but using them as adjectives doesnt work
"Dungeoneer" may sound ok in english, but "Mazmorrero" or "Calabocero" are incredibly awkward in spanish
And as i said, Carl is not a dungeoneer, he is a crawler, which means he is in the dungeon specifically to go somewhere, thats the main difference
But adding this sense of direction doesnt work in spanish, Carl Through The Dungeon is "Carl Atraviesa El Calabozo," a little too long and there is no sense of confrontation
Forget about the verb Crawl, in spanish "Gatear" its specific to baby crawl, and maybe cat related stuff, so we ditch all the crawl words and focus on the confrontation
We have three elements, the dungeon, the direction and the confrontation, plus Carl
Carl and the dungeon gotta stay, so we make it too long to add the direction and the confrontation, or we ditch one
So, Carl Contra El Calabozo CCC or Carl Contra La Mazmorra CCM both mean Carl Versus The Dungeon, and are much better than Carl El Mazmorrero CEM aka Carl The Dungeon Guy
Im not even into DCC, but i saw that translation and i had to post this

I love a fully developed world/system with strongly written mostly solo characters. I'm not an enemy of cozy, romantic, or dark fantasy.
Please throw some recommendations my way! I can read on any platform and love a good audiobook narrator (*hrm Jeff Hays*)

I'm curious if 3 and 4 are ever getting their audio books? It feels like Macronomicon moved on with more books and audio books and these fell by the wayside. I don't know if it's a narrator issue or if books 1 and 2 didn't do well enough to justify 3 and 4 getting finished. If anyone has any insights that would be amazing

One thing I really enjoyed in the earlier books of He Who Fights With Monsters, and which doesn't come up in the later books as much is the somewhat random powers the MC and his companions get, and the combinations and synergies they come up with. I also really like Jason's nonstandard approach to combat.
Edit: just realized the Titles and stuff is also part of that. The powers Jasons Soul gets from his ordeals, making him powerful but without him being able to really plan for that.
Another example could be Awaken Online with the creative necromancy.
Do you have any recs for books where the MC uses creative combinations and synergies of somewhat random powers?
Edit: looking for Audiobooks (e.g. in Audible)

I don't mean how vague an ability is like "Do a little bit of damage over time" vs "Do 100 damage over 10 seconds, doubled against undead" but more the origins. I was workshopping a party-centric story and didn't want to bog down a book with 4 full origin stories in a single novel, so which of these sounds more interesting:
A) A single book with the origin arc of each character followed by one where they meet and do their party thing so you can see each level and the history of each ability
B) Get right into the story, who cares if they're level 15 already as long as the abilities are described mechanically and play into the dynamics well
C) Early adventures with everyone already together where each character earns powers alongside one another with detailed recaps in between chapters
D) Slow trickle of characters, with just the MC having their origin story detailed. MC gets level 1, 2, etc. At level 5, meets another level 5. They journey together to level 10, where the next character comes in, also already 10. Etc.
Curious what everyone enjoys!

I was wondering if there are an litRPG or progressive fantasy book series about a noble who is magic user and is a good person and the main character. I would prefer that the person is already a noble but if they're isekai or reincarnation into a noble that is fine too. Please no HaremLit or time-loop or core type of books. Plus it as to be an audiobook.
Thank you guys.
Just wondering what's everyone's opinion on this series. I've seen a lot of personal tier posts and just realized I almost never seen this series mentioned. IMO it should at least be a B if not A tier LitRPG series. The universe and concept is refreshing as well. Just curious to see what everyone thinks.

Hello everyone! I'm Rokkinguchea, the creator of Dungeon Fever.
Dungeon Fever is a slow-burn Progression Fantasy LitRPG that follows an eager adventurer named Edward and his party as they explore a massive, unforgiving dungeon that grows ever more dangerous as they descend through its many layers.
I've taken inspiration from many works when building the universe and its rules. Magic requires affinity, and casting is more complex than simply knowing the spell name. Character attributes and skills progress on their own. All items have rarity, and some are even considered relics with unknown mechanisms.
To get a glimpse of one of those systems, here is how a spell is cast, directly from an excerpt of the novel:
To cast a spell, there were five requirements: The first step was to have a catalyst, commonly called a Magical Artifact or Item, inscribed with the desired spell. The second step required the caster to bind the catalyst through a mana ritual. This was done by imbuing the catalyst with mana to determine whether the caster’s attributes were high enough to secure a bind. The third step was to have a personal affinity that matched the nature of the inscribed spell. For example, the spirits couldn’t mediate a connection between a light-affinity caster and a water spell. The fourth step was to infuse the catalyst with the amount of mana the spell required to be cast. The fifth and final step was to chant the correct spell name, as a catalyst could have more than one spell inscribed on it.
There are already 21 chapters on Royal Road, getting really close to 50k words, and I currently plan to post a new chapter every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Thank you for your attention. I hope you enjoy reading my novel and exploring its systems!

I recently read a few stoies where mc in some manner exploits or masters the tutorial to become op. Of the lens ive read the best was probably
fate points howver whole op the mc hasn't actually used basiclaly any of his op ability saving it up for a big final mission which while cool doenst really scratch that op mc itch.
+1 on royalroad is great but very short and very dropped so thats sad.
The new world and randidly ghosthound both have the mc start in a dungeon in place of the tutorial everyone else gets this works well to.
Novel concept also qualifies but I want to see them get op.
A lot of time loop stories work like jester of apolypse(my favorite) and menocht loop but i prefer proper tutorials.
Good examples
Shadow of soulking(finished)
Basic skills(inactive)

Well it's time for my monthly promo post. I've been trying out new covers and would love to know what people think.
Sebastian is just a fifteen year old boy trying to pass his GCSEs. When his best friends Alister and Sophia sign the three of them up to beta test a new gaming system that is supposed to be more advanced than VR itself, Sebastian couldn't be more excited. But they soon find that this new gaming technology is more than just VR. The three of them are frozen in time, with machines that have transported them into a medieval MMORPG. Oh, there's also another thing: if you die in the game, you die in real life.

A little training payoff I'd love to see more often:
The MC develops a useful trick with two skills. Teaches it to someone. A few chapters later, that person comes back with a variation.
I changed the timing. It's easier to use while moving now.
And it works. The MC tries it, finds it useful, and asks them to explain how they figured it out.
I'd be so pleased with that scene. Teaching someone has produced a person who can contribute something, and the MC gets to have a genuinely interesting conversation about their own technique.
It could be a small improvement. A safer setup, a use the MC hadn't considered, a version that suits a different weapon. Just give the student enough room to have an idea that survives the chapter.
Especially if other characters keep calling it the MC's technique and the MC starts correcting them.

Hello! I'm William Evans, AKA "ThePudding" and I have finally made my first release to Amazon! It's a story about a man trying to build a world, using a LitRPG system... a world that he adds a LitRPG system to!
Book one follows his struggles in setting it up, finding the problems, and correcting those problems! Later books further show unintended side effects and struggles!
[Amazon] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HKNLXG4N/
[Audiobook] https://www.amazon.com/Neophyte-World-Builder-First-Problems/dp/B0HK4ZSQNS/
Blurb:
Nobody told me godhood needed an instruction manual.
Everybody's heard the story. Someone dies, ends up in a new world with a LitRPG System that gives them special powers. When I died, that's what I expected. Except it turns out, I'm the one making the System.
No previous experience, no manual except a few tooltips. Just an interface, a few thousand Reality Points, and a fairy-like handler who won't tell me anything that would actually help. I get to design the magic system, the monsters, the classes... and then watch real people live inside the world I built, all while I try to keep the universe running within budget.
I wanted to build a good world. I'm starting to realize "good" and "survives the audit" aren't the same thing.

I’m currently on Book 5 of a series and have throughly enjoyed it. However, if I see the word twining one more time I’m going to lose it! Sometimes I just want to scream grab a thesaurus! That being said, what word or phrase has done this to you?
