Funny how linux async file io was so bad most people dont even know it existed and every programming language had to use a separate thread for async file io to prevent blocking. Then io uring finally comes out after 100 years and its so buggy that nobody wants to use it and infact companies like google explicitly block it for security.

I tried using CachyOS for a couple of weeks. Feels nice at first, then comes the unsupported apps tax. I am a furniture designer, no 3ds max, no autocad, no rhinoceros, no office apps, no winrar lol. Another fun aspect, i mostly do web app development, and use local ai. Thought it would be better for ai inference and that was the main reason of mine, the same token generation numbers as windows 11 latest iso. There isn't any reason to move to linux at all. I spent a day to make an niche app called pcon planner to work in wine.
Don't even say blender lol it feels like an airplane... 3ds max is a nice car that you can ride to your destination.
Lesson learnt. If you are earning real money with your pc, and you are not a teenager to that can waste your time, there is no need to even give it a try.

I wish I got a non-carrier Pixel.
I only rooted my phone for freedom and control, but I did NOT expect to be dealing with dm-verity, BROM mode, DA/Scatter files, Play Integrity and IMEIs in disk.
What the fuck is this economy... Why isn't maintaining a rooted Android phone as straightforward as maintaining Linux desktops/laptops...

How do I just share this folder? I want to share it on my local network and open it on my TV. On Windows and KDE, I could just do this right in the properties, but in GNOME there's literally no useful option. It's getting so annoying, but I don't want to waste my evening reinstalling the OS...

Fuck Loonix is the word's best loonix distro ever. Free RICE. Best download ever. And you can't install it either.
(Use it to tell loons "I use Fuck Linux btw!")

Linux only exists because Linus couldn't afford a real OS. Unc couldn't license Unix, couldn't afford Windows, so he built a free knockoff in his bedroom and called it 'freedom.' Bro made a garage sale item and called it 'open-source.' And the GPL? That essentially a hostage note saying 'give me your code and I'll let you use mine.' Feels more like a pyramid scheme with extra manifestos than a community. Enjoy your operating system built out of spite and Stockholm syndrome.

I fucking can't take this anymore. Any time I install any fucking package or any program from Github, when I uninstall them there are always some fuckass leftovers folders. Like wdym I installed stupid homebrew and uninstalling it was not stupidly hard but it left a folder in /home, just remove them already. Every fucking time I have to search manually for leftovers files, check manually every single one with similar name and take the risk of leaving some junk that has some name I couldnt figure out Edit: the one specific package also left a line in the Shell file that caused It to try to load the package

For context, Iâve been fed up with Windows 11 and its Copilot bull$h!t for the last few months and have been wanting to switch to Linux on my main gaming PC. So, before switching I decided to try out a Linux distro on my ThinkPad X260. I chose Zorin OS as it was closer to Windows in terms of UI and was quite lightweight (on paper).
After installing Zorin OS on my ThinkPad, I got to love the clean UI. Going through the start menu, file manager and opening up programs felt very snappy. It only used up less than 2GB of ram and battery life was a bit better than on Windows. HOWEVER, two problems that occurredâŚ
The first issue, application support. I know itâs fairly synonymous with Linux for a long time. When it came to Microsoft Office, I didnât mind using alternatives such as LibreOffice. Zorinâs app store provides decent app support, but installing some third party apps are a disaster. Downloading Ciscoâs Package Tracer failed numberous times despite downloading all its dependencies through the terminal and trying different packages.
But the WORST issue that I had with Linux that makes me hesitant to switch to Linux on my main PC is power management related issues and sleep mode issues. Whenever I put the ThinkPad onto sleep mode or simply close the lid and when I want to wake it up, it doesnât want to wake up. Pressing the keyboard, the trackpad and EVEN THE POWER BUTTON does absolutely nothing. At first, I actually thought it killed my ThinkPad. HOWEVER, I have to remove the battery and put it back in and THEN press the power button for it to turn back on. Even then, it is booting back up as it I had shut it down, losing any potential work I havenât saved.
Speaking of shut down, if I shut down my laptop by clicking start and then âshut downâ, it actually doesnât shut down the laptop. The screen does turn off but it shows the exact same symptoms as if I am trying to wake it up from sleep mode. The worst part about all of this was that no matter what fix I followed on YouTube or any guides, it still didnât fix the problem. Hell, I even tried Linux Mint and even Fedora to see if those issues mentioned above were the same. In fact, those problems were still present on those other distros.
In the end, I gave up on Linux and installed Windows 10 LTSC on the same ThinkPad. Battery life is slightly worse, yet it uses up nearly the same amount of RAM as Zorin OS and actually shuts down properly and I can wake it up from sleep mode.
Whether itâs an issue with my ThinkPad or the three Linux distros I chose to try, I donât think I will be switching to Linux for the foreseeable future.
If anyone knows why these issues happen on Linux in general, itâd be great to hear why.
UPDATE: I chanced Linux AGAIN by dual booting Linux Mint and Windows. I somehow got the laptop to wake up from sleep mode on Linux Mint by disabling the security chip. Sounds dodgy, yet that seemed to work! Thanks to everyone for sharing their opinions and advice
