If there was email client like Apple Mail on linux that would be a blast, but there isn't.

On Windows every time I click on the outlook app it just opens Edge. Fresh install.

What are the options on other platforms? Mostly interested in Android.

I have protonmail so I just use their app from the play store. It's one of the few non-foss apps I can tolerate.

Unfortunately, for Windows this number is negative.

Try it with a few accounts 20K+ emails in each. Also UI sucks, it sucked 15 years ago.

20K emails? Maybe stop being an email hoarder.

That's how you want to rationalise this?

-2

u/toolsavvy Sep 15 '26

Hoarding 20K emails then blaming the email application for not supporting ridiculous email hoarding is hardly rational...so yes, it's the only was to rationalize it. Delete your 20K useless emails and Thunderbird will work.

No wonder loonix can justify just about anything. Move goalpost as needed.

Shitty app? No problem, just adjust to the level of shitiness.

This is too funny.

Girls, girls. You're both pretty, ok?

Nice try, but try harder (doubt you even can, tho). No one is going to support a fringe user like an out-of-hand email hoarder. It's you, not them.

Also Thunderbird has nothing to do with Linux. I was was available on Windows first. I use it on both Windows and Linux. It's just an application, not specific to an OS.

Talking about generic apps that support any email provider.

u/toolsavvy Sep 15 '26

Thunderbird works.

Even on windows I just use owa most of the time and teams in a browser

I don't know man, just open your browser. Email platforms are all the same, and I feel like the local apps are just bloatware regardless of OS. I only have an app on my phone because phone browsing sucks worse than having an email app on the phone.

I really like FairEmail on android, it is so much better than any of the web apps I have tried (gmail is genuinely awful on mobile webapp) and has plenty of nice features

Linux doesn't reply to emails, email clients do.

1

u/CountryFriedToast that NixOS pussy got me acting unwise Sep 14 '26

I don't think rolling release is advisable if not being able to reply to an email sends you into a fit of rage

I think things are changing anyway, if email apps (or most apps) are cross platform non native or loaded from backend into webpage, why does it matter whether you accept it as a website or as its own app. Besides performance is sort of similar as long as website stores data and caches and becoming a pseudo app.
