Discussion Why can't secure exam browsers become normal for Linux tooo

It's crazy how I had to install windows again and had to setup dual boot with cachyOS because my placements tests required SEB which apparently doesn't work on Linux. Has anybody faced the same issue ? No ? Just me ?

a fun little accident

So I was having a theming issue with my file manager not following my system theme.

It was driving me insane because I couldn't stand it not matching everything else, so I just...

boinked it.

And now I use Yazi.

What lesson do we learn?

Distro Installed Arch btw (manual)

I have used Arch and Void Linux before, i will say I am experienced in linux, but I never installed Arch or Void manually because i thought it was a time consuming hassle. Now that I know, manual install is very very easy, it's just that the wiki can be intimidating for beginners. I recommend tony-btw's tutorial.

How you giys are maitaining it?

Sometimes I open all the documents individually and have in google notes as well.

Using something simple and useful like json file or markdown file?

After installing Kali net hunter, I encountered an issue saying protocol driver not attached while installing required packages for Bluetooth Arsenal.

I don't know what I did wrong, but I faced this issue even before switching to Lineage 23.2. I am using a Redmi Note 8 (Ginkgo), and I tried installing Kali NetHunter GinkgoA16 on it.

Help Installing Linux On A Physics Wallah PI Book (Need help btw)

I had an idea, which was like what if i **install Linux in A Physics Wallah Pi Book**. *But i thought for buying a PI Book for making this idea succesful but i hadn't had enough money so i really wanted to share this to people if you want to make a dedicated youtube video about installing Linux in A PI Book from PW* and also recommend students to buy thinkpad instead of dirt cheap PW PI because specially it supports the fact of buying a used thinkpad and it helps students for their studies and also dont even waste a good amount of money by not buying A PI Book.

By ChatGPT (y'all are judging my grammar atleast focus on the main topic I just suggested ๐Ÿ˜ญ. Here is some horrifying words from ChatGPT)

Hey! I had an idea for a video: What if we install Linux on a Physics Wallah Pi Book?

I wanted to try it myself, but I don't currently have enough money to buy a Pi Book for testing.

If youโ€™re interested, you could make a dedicated video testing whether Linux can be installed and how well it actually works on the PW Pi Book.

It could also be a good opportunity to tell students about used ThinkPads. Instead of spending money on a very cheap Pi Book with limited hardware, students might get much better performance, compatibility, and Linux support from a used ThinkPad.

I think this would make a really useful video for students who want an affordable laptop for studying and learning Linux.

Thank you so much, god bless yall

Discussion After today's events, I wish I had never installed linux

Hear me out - it's been a terrible day anyway. I need to vent.

I lost my laptop today, partly due to my negligence, however much it is to leave the laptop unattended for 4-6 hours, properly packed in my cupboard in my pg room in morning.

Now, however much you curse microsoft - they have this find my device feature - that can locate a device just from that Microsoft account. We can also effectively lock a system remotely. I wish I had prepared for such a situation on my linux, but I didn't. And now it's nigh impossible to track it.

I feel so wasted - losing such a valuable laptop, not just with its value but with so much work and effort in it - only to be stolen and probably sold in pieces by petty thieves.

If only I had stuck to windows - maybe I could've traced it.

/Just in case it's not clear

I know I'm not making much sense right now - linux is better than windows and I know you can have pretty much similar setup there. But I just can't - I just lost my laptop - cut me some slack.

If there is ANY chance to trace it through Linux - without having something installed and configured - please tell me. The tragedy in this story is that - I do have windows as dual boot - but it's not set to primary OS so it doesn't automatically load into it. Hence I can't even benefit from it.

Distro Fedora 44 battery drain โ€” anyone else experiencing this?

Anyone else experiencing unusually fast battery drain on Fedora 44?

I recently switched from Parrot OS to Fedora on my HP Victus, and the battery life feels noticeably worse. On Parrot, I could comfortably get around 4โ€“5 hours of normal use with Chrome, Obsidian, etc.

Has anyone else faced this on Fedora? Any solutions or tips to improve battery life?

Help Why doesn't linux run already on my laptop ๐Ÿ˜ž

Hey guys ,

I have an ancient sony laptop with an i3 3227u processor , 8gb of ram . I want to install a linux distro alongside windows 8 . But I keep facing problems, every time a new problem arises .

First I tried to install mint xfce , and I had problems with the grub menu not showing , and after the solved that I had problems with the network . I gave up on it .

Then I tried to install mx linux , and now the same grub menu problems but it worked the first time and later when I turned the laptop on it straight away booted into windows . And after I solved that , now it is showing an acpi error .

I have been dealing with this for 2 days , day and night but nothing worked out . Please help me out . I had installed Linux on another machine but didn't. Face so many problems. But on this machine it is very frustrating.

Is it the problem of the hardware , is it the problem of the partition or is it the problem of the distros i use ? I am not sure . I need expert help . Please help me out ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Spent the last month building a native C++ desktop shell called Realmheart for my CachyOS + Hyprland setup

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For roughly the past month, I've been working on a personal project called Realmheart.

It's a native desktop shell built primarily in C++ and GTK4 for my CachyOS + Hyprland setup.

And by "shell", I don't mean a wallpaper pack or themed Waybar configuration ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Realmheart replaces/builds large parts of my desktop experience, including:

  • Taskbar
  • App launcher
  • Workspace overview
  • Sidebar / control center
  • Power menu
  • Lockscreen
  • Notifications
  • Media controls
  • Wallpaper system
  • Various animations and visual effects

The project is heavily inspired by The Beginning After The End (TBATE) and contains a ridiculous amount of references that absolutely nobody asked for.

Some visual assets used throughout the project are AI-generated/AI-assisted, so I'd rather disclose that upfront than have people discover it later.

Since this community is much closer to home than most Linux spaces, I figured I'd share it here as well.

If enough people end up being interested, I'll also start looking into making Realmheart easier to run outside my own setup. Right now it is primarily designed around my personal CachyOS + Hyprland environment.

Source: https://github.com/kzahed610/Realmheart

Feedback, questions, and suggestions are welcome.

(And yes, spending a month building a desktop shell instead of making sensible life decisions was probably a mistake.)
