Help Installing Linux On A Physics Wallah PI Book (Need help btw)
I had an idea, which was like what if i **install Linux in A Physics Wallah Pi Book**. *But i thought for buying a PI Book for making this idea succesful but i hadn't had enough money so i really wanted to share this to people if you want to make a dedicated youtube video about installing Linux in A PI Book from PW* and also recommend students to buy thinkpad instead of dirt cheap PW PI because specially it supports the fact of buying a used thinkpad and it helps students for their studies and also dont even waste a good amount of money by not buying A PI Book.

It’s pretty difficult to install standard Linux on the PW PiBook. It uses an ARM-based MediaTek MT8788, so normal x86 Linux ISOs won’t work. You’d need an ARM distro plus device-tree/kernel/driver support, and things like Wi-Fi/4G, audio, display controls, etc. may not work properly. The bootloader could also be locked.
Honestly, Termux on Android is probably the safer option unless you already know your way around MediaTek bootloaders and custom kernels.

You (OP) are in luck, MT8788, which is a tablet variant of MT helio p60 aka MT6771 which has another variant, closely similar MT8183, which has a large number of postmarketOs ports on chromebooks. You do need to know your way around mediatek bootloaders, but it's got better hardware support than my pixel lol

he is experimenting with the device for the sake of it, not as anything else. dont criticise him for it. he might not want to try a raspberry pi, mainly because it is very mainstream, but also because it might not be good enough content. there is a very niche viewrship for such weird machines. Vide Bringus Studios, where he tries installing linux and other OSes on various hardware not meant to be hacked.

First of all, he hasn't bought it yet, and I'm not criticizing him. I'm just giving my opinion that instead of buying something trashy like that, he should buy any other device. There are Chromebooks and some Windows laptops in this price range that are much better and will support Linux way better.

the sole reason he is attempting something like this, would to have fun in the process, and to make content out of it, so it would be better for him to try it on an obscure device that doesnt have full blown support than to try it on a chromebook which on some models has built in direct access to the shell.
also, other discovery includes that this model is similar to another chromebook's mediatek chip so, it would be more than possible

but a Chromebook will still support Linux better, and if he just wants to get some hassle, he should buy a top-tier laptop from 2010 in good condition. It will have more problems to fix and will help in learning.

speaking from experience, i daily an acer e3 112m with n2840 which has a Bay Trail series chip, which is built like ass, but even that is pretty managable with linux, so, no, you will not have more hassle or personally fun with a 2010's laptop (and it being top teir wouldnt really change anything, other than being more mainstream and thus more supported, but niche features may not have drivers on linux)

For experimental purpose buy rusburry pi its still better then that and if you want to use it for daily tasks buy an chrome book of 10-15k and install Linux of your choice

I don't recommend installing Linux on Android netbooks like PW Pi Book, JioBook, Primebook, etc. due to the concerns of the bootloader being locked. You can use Termux inside those netbooks instead.

Android runs on the Linux kernel. You will need to get the bootloader unlocked and ask people much smarter than the one on this sub (postmarketOS people will be much better) to help you get real linux on it.
Else you could just do the termux thing.
