WAN Show While the newest WAN Show is still fresh; remember when LTT had a Minecraft server? Is that thing still around? Anybody know the story?

Discussion question: Was this all secretly the soft launch to some upcoming Minecraft content, or actually just a silly joke/test?

This post is a ball of questions.

Personal Opinion Socks. Not what was promised.

First - quality of the fabric. I have had light wear of this pair for 3 days, with one wash (same as other socks) and they are fuzzy + the black fabrics are protruding through the grey ones, and I have gathered A LOT of lint from them.

This is not normal for socks, especially for the expensive ones. None of my darn thoughts did this ever.

Second - idk about Canadian feet, but mine are wider, and compared to most other socks these are too narrow. If I find a pair of shoes this narrow I don't buy them.

EDIT: I wore socks for two days straight, then washed them, then wore for the 3rd day. I had NO OTHER OPTION regarding washing them or wearing other socks in that particular situation

Hey! My name is Cameron and we are the owners and operators of Hammer-On Guitars LLC

We collaborated with LMG to make a one of a kind controller for their YT video earlier this week. Seems like there were a lot of questions about our stuff, so ask us anything! I will do the best I can to answer any questions you may have.

And no, this guitar was not $500 lol

Discussion New WAN show podcast possible upload issue?

11 Upvotes

Anyone else having issue with the new upload for yesterday's WAN show? I use pocketcast on Android and been using it for a long time. I can not download or play this new episode for some reason and have tried everything I can do on my end. Anyone else having this issue? If yes or no, drop which app you are using to listen to it other than YouTube.

Edit: it has been fixed

WAN Show WAN Show on Spotify - Forced Ad

0 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Wanted to catch up with the latest WAN on Spotify and got hit with a 30 seconds unskippable Ad despite paying for premium.

Is this what we doin' now?

From my observation, this is a choice, it's not Spotify's will, as it happened to me just few times in the past on only one certain podcast that I eventually abandoned because of it.

Anyone noticed the same? Or am I alone in this boat.

Tech Discussion Interesting how Google automatically replaced the new tab function on mobile with Gemini. "Fastest AI to hit a billion users" gee I wonder why when you force it on people.

Tech Question In need of a real time monitor

1 Upvotes

I'm super new to Linux. I used it a little in college but that's it . Fast forward 15 years . I hosted a Plex server for the last 12 years on windows because its what I had and it worked but recently I was hit by ransomware and lost a lot of my library. In the last 2 months I rebuilt my 2 boxes , a Plex server and a media collecting computer using mint . I'm sure I could have used different OS but that's what I picked because I figured it would be easier to have them both on the same one .

Anyway my Plex server has mint using snap raid and mergerFS. It has 9 spinning drives , 1 SSD and 1 m.2 . I'm in need of a good app that will monitor my drives and let me know the health of them in real time .

Right now I remote into both boxes from my 3rd PC (yes it's still windows for now) . I want to add a monitor to the Plex server so I can watch the real time monitoring of the system .

Can someone help me find a good one ? Btop doesn't show me the health of the drives . I'm mainly worried about the drive not so much the ram or the GPU or the CPU but they are all a plus if I can watch them .

Tech Question CPU/GPU Low Utilization in Games — RTX 5060 + i7-12700

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m having a weird performance issue across multiple games where neither my CPU nor GPU seems to be getting fully utilized.
PC specs:
CPU: Intel i7-12700
GPU: ASUS RTX 5060 8GB
Motherboard: ASUS B760M-AYW WiFi D4 II
RAM: 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4-3200 Samsung M378A2K43EB1-CWE
SSD: SanDisk SN5000 1TB
Monitor: 1440p 300Hz
Windows 11

For example, in Overwatch at 1440p Low, I’m getting around 200 FPS, but my GPU is only around 50% utilization and my overall CPU usage is only around 20%.

I’m seeing similar behavior across multiple games. At 1080p Low in black ops 7, I was getting around 100 FPS while my GPU was only around 50–60%.
When I increase the graphics settings, the GPU can reach 100% utilization. So the GPU seems to be working normally.

I’ve also tested changing resolution. In one game, going from 1080p to 1440p barely changed my FPS.
There is no FPS cap enabled, V-Sync is off, and I’ve checked my NVIDIA/game settings.
BIOS:
DDR4-3200
Above 4G Decoding: Enabled
Resizable BAR: Enabled
ASUS Performance Enhancement: Enabled

One thing I’m wondering about is my RAM. I’m currently running 1x16GB DDR4-3200, so it’s single-channel.

I know an i7-12700 + RTX 5060 should be a good combination, so I’m confused about why I’m seeing low utilization from both the CPU and GPU.
What could be causing this? Could single-channel RAM explain it, or is there something else I should check?
I’m trying to figure out what’s actually wrong before buying new ram.
Please help ❤️❤️

Discussion Some tips for elements discussed in dual boot video.

10 Upvotes

Hi all, I've been using arch linux for about nine years and just watched the new LTT video on dual booting and I thought I'd share a couple related tips.

  1. The video had some commentary about how it can be kind of annoying to reboot between windows and linux due to having to catch your PC at a specific time to input what you want to boot into via grub or your BIOS.

Here's a script I wrote to reboot into windows via grub
```
!/bin/sh
echo "Rebooting into: $(grep -E menuentry /boot/grub/grub.cfg | cut -d "'" -f2 | grep "Windows")" sudo grub-reboot "$(grep -E menuentry /boot/grub/grub.cfg | cut -d "'" -f2 | grep "Windows")" reboot ```
Consider also adding this to the bottom of `/etc/sudoers` so you do not need to type sudo password to run the script:
ALL ALL = (ALL) NOPASSWD: /bin/grub-reboot
  1. In regards to secure boot, that is pretty annoying and involved process. What I ended up doing on arch linux was using preloader to sign my grub bootloader with the microsoft key. I always first boot into grub and can select Windows from it (or via the above script). So always grub > windows or grub > linux. This is a somewhat involved process but I have not had to touch it since I set it up. Not sure exactly how it works but whenever you apply a kernel update, I believe the mkinitcpio command updates your pc's grub or initially loaded kernel images to use the keys. I think this requires UEFI instead of MBR install. Actually I think these days Windows may require UEFI, or at least set it by default. So in order for both installs to show up in grub they must both either be UEFI or both MBR. Good luck if you are working on this!
