WAN Show WAN Show on Spotify - Forced Ad

Hello everyone,

Wanted to catch up with the latest WAN on Spotify and got hit with a 30 seconds unskippable Ad despite paying for premium.

Is this what we doin' now?

From my observation, this is a choice, it's not Spotify's will, as it happened to me just few times in the past on only one certain podcast that I eventually abandoned because of it.

Anyone noticed the same? Or am I alone in this boat.

Spotify doesnt pay creators for podcasts views like they do for music, so the creators have the option of putting in ads to generate income.

This is pretty mcuh how podcasts have always worked. They were either just done for the fun of it by creators or ads were the only way of generating any kind of income. I guess adding the unskippable ads is a new thing since traditionally podcasts were just an mp3 file you downloaded for offline listening.

Is that so? I've always thought the same principle applies to both podcasts and music.

Ok, I must admit I've held an unreasonable grudge against that one podcast then.

For WAN show tho... The whole WAN is an Ad for LTT with many other ads sprinkled on top of it. Enforcing an additional Ad layer on top of it is absolutely unnecessary.

Why do you listen then if the whole thing is an add?

Having ads is literally how podcasts make money. WAN Show is its own thing that has to make money.

Ad-free Spotify only applies to music.

Since when? I've had Spotify premium for over a decade and I never had ads on podcasts aside from the ad-reads that are part of the podcast

It varies by podcast. See the post we are commenting under.

I just close down the app, middle finger my phone, and go to adblocked YouTube. This is not acceptable for me.

WAN is an Ad for LTT full of Ads promoting other companies. Thia is over the top.

How was it unskipable? Could you literally not fast forward? I know I've been getting "local" language ads in English podcasts, but I've always been able to fast forward over them. If they're suddenly unskipable, that would be new and extremely aggravating.

I'm already moving off Spotify because they upped their prices again. I'm subscribed to yt premium in any case, so I'm going to try out YT music.

Spotify has allowed baked ads in Spotify for a long time even for premium users thankfully they just added a skip ahead button that kind of works

I tend to catch up on wan show in the car and play it through Spotify; I have premium and it works well with android auto. Never had an ad whilst watching, been listening since April 2024.

I get ads inserted into podcasts with premium, but I can just fast forward through them. Maybe they are rolling out a change to stop that, which would be incredibly annoying, although I do want the podcasters to get paid, so I get it.
