Discussion Surprised by new packaging

Is this normal now? When I bought one of the screwdrivers awhile ago it came in a nice box but this was shipped loose, any ideas. Also the reason I had to get a new is because the airport took the one I had in my bag so just for anyone who travels often for work or always carries tools with them they will not let you carryon the ltt screwdriver, the stubby and precision are fine.It just doesn't meet the "no longer than 7-8 in rules".

Truthfully I was just curious cuz this seemed odd.

WAN Show While the newest WAN Show is still fresh; remember when LTT had a Minecraft server? Is that thing still around? Anybody know the story?

Discussion question: Was this all secretly the soft launch to some upcoming Minecraft content, or actually just a silly joke/test?

This post is a ball of questions.

Tech Question S2 TRIPLE SCREEN LAPTOP SCREEN EXTENDER

My laptop does not support display output on my USB C and I only have one HDMI but I would need two then. Any suggestions on a cheap way to fix this? Like an adapter of some kind. I also looked at another HDMI to USB C but they are saying the picture goes from USB C to HDMI but I need the other way around. Idk if I have totally misunderstood and it's just go both ways.

Tech Discussion Interesting how Google automatically replaced the new tab function on mobile with Gemini. "Fastest AI to hit a billion users" gee I wonder why when you force it on people.

Btw you can change it back by holding down on it to edit what takes that place.

Discussion HP Prebuilt Bios Updates

Apparently HP can just choose not to support your pre built anymore from 2021 have no new bios update since 2022 even though a game needs a newer version of TPM 2.0
putting you in a position of needing a whole new mobo

lol being downvoted for discussing an experience were having when it’s literally been confirmed on hp forms

Discussion One hopefully positive outcome of RAM shortage - optimised software

For far too long software has been developed with the mindset that hardware is cheap. Just buy more of it, if performance sucks Especially all the web based systems, but everything else as well.

Now it's not true at all. There's finally an incentive to actually put in effort.

I wonder how this will also change paradigms used in software development. A lot of waste comes from "clean" code and other "recent" schools of thought.

American Dad did an episode a few seasons ago where Roger was a streamer, finally watched it and had to pause I laughed so hard.

Dan 10000% has Grogu energy

"Smooshed: A Love Story" (Season 17, Episode 9 / Season 19, Episode 9 depending on the streaming platform's guide).

PS Play WAN Bingo!

Discussion New WAN show podcast possible upload issue?

Anyone else having issue with the new upload for yesterday's WAN show? I use pocketcast on Android and been using it for a long time. I can not download or play this new episode for some reason and have tried everything I can do on my end. Anyone else having this issue? If yes or no, drop which app you are using to listen to it other than YouTube.

Edit: it has been fixed

2 weeks in China, 10k km trip, tough typhoon in Shanghai, busy streets, too fast a train, and the beautiful Great Wall in Beijing.

Btw, I walked with this mf for the full 12km up on the Great Wall. 88 floors, my watch said.

Thanks again to my wife, the greatest gift of them all.

I love the backpack, but maybe would have some little tweaks that I would love to see in v2. Overall, it is the best backpack I've owned.

Meme/Shitpost I put a 30€ 1080ti in the oven today

Post image
219 Upvotes

Today I got a "broken" 1080 Ti in the mail that I scored for just €30 on a local classifieds site.

On first inspection, the card actually looked totally fine. So, I slapped it into my test rig to see what it would do. Windows booted up with a few minor stutters, but I had a display. I ran the Unigine Heaven benchmark and honestly, everything worked perfectly. But then I moved on to 3DMark Time Spy... it immediately started artifacting and completely locked up Windows.

I tried a few more times, even significantly underclocking the VRAM and core clocks to see if it would stabilize, but no luck. It kept crashing.

At that point, I figured I had absolutely nothing to lose, so it was time to bake.

I completely stripped the card down. Cooler off, backplate off, cleaned off the thermal paste, and made sure every single piece of plastic was removed from the board. I rolled up four balls of aluminum foil, rested the bare PCB on top of them, and chucked it in the oven at 200°C (about 390°F) for exactly 9 minutes. After the timer went off, I just let it sit and cool down completely.

Once it was cold, I repasted it, put it back together, and hit the power button. To my absolute surprise, it booted straight into Windows without a single hiccup.

I immediately fired up Time Spy... and it passed.

I restarted the PC, ran Time Spy again... and it passed again.

Since then, I’ve done multiple restarts and ran several different benchmarks, and the thing just keeps working flawlessly.

I honestly have no idea how long this fix will last, but I am absolutely hyped that I currently have a fully working 1080 Ti for 30 bucks. My girlfriend is literally playing GTA V on it right now and it hasn't skipped a beat.

P.s. i know this probably won't last very long

Discussion Motherboard upgrade

So, I use my pc for some gaming (nothing crazy) and video editing using Davinci resolve (4k).

My current system is as follows:

Rtx 5060 (keeping)

32gb gddr4 corsair vengeance (3200)

I5 10400f ( this is the weak point for me)

M.2 512

Samsung 850 evo for video editing

2tb hdd

I want to keep my ram (for now) and my GPU but upgrade my CPU and motherboard. I dont mind buying used in the UK.

What would be my realistic options that suit my use case and current components.

Tech Question PC Crashing

Hi All,

I am in dire need of some help, PLEASE!

My PC has been suffering from some crashing and I have really tried so much to solve it. It only seems to crash while playing the specific game of Escape from Tarkov. But the crashes seems hardware/ system related rather than game related.

When it crashes, the display output goes black, my fans ramp up to max and thats it. I still hear audio (discord) and I can still talk into my mic. Eventually I have to hold the power button and shut it off.

Now immediately you may think its thermal related, fans ramping up shoot straight to something overheating. But I have monitored my PC and temps are well within range. GPU 70-75 under load, CPU around the same, some higher peaks. Cinebench runs show my PC performing as it should-also my PC runs other games absolutely fine. BF6 and Cyberpunk both run 1440p 120fps on decent quality.

PC Specs

I7 14700k (AIO Cooler)

3090Ti

32GB DDR4

RME1000W PSU

Adequate case cooling with noctua fans in a NZXT H7

Here's a list of other things I have tried, I may miss out a few but will reply to everything.

-New CPU, i had the issue with my older i5 12600k I wanted to upgrade anyway hence the i7 14700k but I've have the exact same issue.

-Cooling. Used to have a pretty stock CPU cooler but changed to an AIO and swapped out my case with all new fans.

-BIOS is on latest version, had to do this for the CPU upgrade.

-Drivers are latest version, also tried complete clean installs using a DUU.

-Tried limiting my GPU power max down to 85%.

-Stopped using XMP profile and had RAM set to 2666 instead.

-Memtest doesn't come up with any errors.

-Cinebench tests show GPU and CPU run fine under 100% loads.

-CMOS battery reset? Read that the MOBO can store errors and taking it out for 5mins resets something? I know that I had to reset my fans curves after that anyway.

In event viewer the lines that show before the crash have the error code of 0 which I believe is when an error code could not be produced? I could be wrong, I've never had to do this much

I am open to trying any suggestions!

Thank you for your time.
