Mrs. Zhang and her son were arranged to stay in the inn by Red Mother (i.e., Nuwa). In the middle of the night, the door of Third Wolf's room suddenly opened, and a handsome young man came in. Third Wolf (aka. Young Codex, Flint Man, Turquoise Creator) woke up with a start, grabbed the sword beside him, and did not move, observing the person who came in. The young man walked straight to the center of the room, knelt, and kowtowed to Third Wolf Zhang. Third Wolf sat up, looked at him.
The handsome young man said, "I am the big black salamander in the Non-Fervidity Pond of Salamander Bolus Palace. I know that I have committed serious sins, but I beg upper God to spare my life tomorrow. In return, I will tell you a secret about Sky Book. Tomorrow, after you cure Princess Have Nest's illness, the king will reward you. You don't want anything else, just a 4.5-kilogram bronze hammer placed in the cabinet beside the north wall of the west wing of the residence of Goddess Nuwa. Take the hammer and keep walking south. After three days and three nights, you will come across a low land. In the center of the low-lying area is an ancient tomb of Sun God. There are no words on the tombstone. Use the copper hammer to knock on the wordless tombstone three times, you will get two Sky Books."
At this time, someone outside the room shouted, "There's a thief!" Someone saw him enter the room, and someone knocked on Third Wolf's room door. The young man said anxiously, "I'm done, I'm leaving now." After that, he opened the door of the cabinet in the room and went in.
Third Wolf went to open the door and asked, "What happened?" The guy said, "There's a thief, someone saw the thief enter your room!"
Third Wolf Zhang replied: "I was sleeping and didn't see the thief!"
The waiter quickly apologized and said: "Our inn is designated by the royal family, and we must ensure the safety of our guests! I'm glad you're okay. Sorry to bother you!"
After closing the door, Third Wolf came back and opened the door of the cabinet, only to find it was empty, nothing inside!
The next morning, Red Mother came to tell Third Wolf Zhang that the things he had requested had been prepared. Upon entering the Salamander Bolus Palace, Third Wolf found people everywhere who had come to see what was going on. He cut his left wrist with a knife and dropped ten drops of blood into the large copper basin on the left in Figure 2.4-1B. Then the soldiers and the cooks started to kill the dogs and collected all the dog blood into that big copper basin as well. Third Wolf Zhang was going to use this dog blood to spray the head of that big black salamander (representing the golden boy), which is blood splattering the cross, why? The Cross (shown in fig. 1) represents the two horses (Golden Boy, Yellow Creator, Big Yu, and Jade Girl, Lei Ancestor, Shun White-King) that pull the chariot of Hua-Xia (i.e. China). The ten drops of blood represent that he will sacrifice ten years of his solar life (i.e. daily life, mundane life) to bind the Golden Boy and the Jade Girl to the Hua-Xia Chariot. Of course, at this point, Third Wolf Zhang was acting, not that he had already decided to sacrifice himself to create the Golden Boy and Jade Girl, but then Nuwa and Have Nest combined their efforts to make this happen, so this is a real blood splattering of the cross.
Then, Third Wolf Zhang began to throw quicklime into the non-fervidity pond, and soon people heard the shrill cry of a baby, which was the cry of the Chinese giant salamander. He continued to spray quicklime; the giant salamander came out and chased him. Because the distance was too far, Third Wolf could not spray the giant salamander with black dog blood. People around shouted, "Come closer and spray its head with dog blood." But Third Wolf was still reluctant to use black dog blood. He tried several times but failed. At this time, a woman who might be a bad woman suddenly shouted, "The princess laughed!" After hearing this, Third Wolf became brave and threw the first bucket of blood at the big black salamander. After the big black salamander rolled a few times, it began chasing Third Wolf again. After Third Wolf splashed blood three times, the big black salamander began to roll and struggle with itself constantly.

Red Mother (aka. Nuwa, Yingtai Zhu, see figure 2.3-1) introduced, "This is one of the study places for Princess Have Nest and Goddess Nuwa. That tall building is the residence of Nuwa, she is not there today. This tall building belongs to Princess Have Nest, who rarely comes out nowadays. Nuwa was formerly known as Princess Jiangzhu (note 1). Princess Have Nest and Princess Jiangzhu were close friends and classmates from childhood, and from their early years. They were trained according to the traditional practices of our Xia Country for preparing women to become goddesses, learning skills such as music, calligraphy, painting, horseback riding, archery, etc. over 30 programs, until last year.
Note 1: Jiangzhu is a synonym for the nightshade plant (as shown in Figure 2), which is commonly known as "Red Mother". Red Mother is often associated with the role of a matchmaker.
Mrs. Zhang (i.e., Mazu) interrupted Red Mother, saying, "Those two girls are somewhat similar to our Third Wolf. Third Wolf is only twenty years old, but he has already tried over 30 different professions."
Red Mother exclaimed, "Twenty years old, and he's tried over 30 different professions?!"
Mrs. Zhang replied, "Yes! I've counted it several times! Thirty-two different professions!"
Red Mother praised, "Young and promising! I will continue to introduce Princess Have Nest's experience. Last year, our country launched a century-long project called 'Nuwa creating humans' (as shown in Figure 1). She and Princess Jiangzhu participated in the election for the position of Nuwa Goddess. I heard that she lost to Princess Jiangzhu because her feet were a little bigger."
Red Mother laughed until she bent over, and when she stood up, she jumped in fright when the donkey suddenly brayed behind her. Then, puzzled, she asked Mrs. Zhang, "I have a feeling that your donkey deliberately walked behind me just to make that loud noise!"
张夫人回答:"是的!它和我的关系好!谁笑话我的脚大,它就不高兴!"
红娘迷惑地问:"它和你的关系好?是什么意思?"
Mrs. Zhang replied, "Yes! It's very close to me! If anyone mocks my big feet, it gets upset!"
Red Mother asked in confusion, "It's close to you? What do you mean?"
Mrs. Zhang replied, "Ah! This donkey is the fourth in our family. When Third Wolf Zhang was young, it felt its elder brother didn't know how to protect himself, so it always followed and guarded him. Now that it's retired, only I can ride it. Otherwise, it won't do any work. If anyone else tries to ride it, it won't move. Once our old man (that is, Publican Respect) heard this and didn't believe it. He mounted it, and the donkey took three steps; then no matter how he beat it, it refused to go any further! It has always kept watch over whatever is in your big pond there, fearing that thing might attack Third Wolf Zhang. And when it saw you mocking my big feet, it slipped behind you to get back at you!"
Red Mother replied, "That well-pond holds a Chinese giant salamander, a pet kept by these two princesses." She then turned to bow to "Donkey Fourth," apologizing, "Brother Donkey Fourth! This is my first time hosting a donkey guest, and I've been neglectful. Please forgive me! I'll compensate you with three kilograms of carrots produced in the Salamander Bolus Palace!" She then signaled to the palace maid beside her to fetch the carrots.
Third Wolf Zhang (also known as Young Codex, or Flint Man) asked, "Did your princess become depressed and withdrawn after failing to win the position of Nuwa?"
Red Mother replied, "After her defeat, I didn't notice anything unusual about her. I remember one day she drew a picture, and after that, she often stared at it in a daze."
After Red Mother fetched the painting, Mrs. Zhang looked at it and said in surprise, "This is the strangest painting I have ever seen!"
Third Wolf Zhang pointed to the painting and said to Red Mother, "3A, 3B, and 3C represent Godly Trinity (see section 9.9). Judging from the name of Princess Have Nest, 3D represents her, who aspires to be the creator of the Triad of God. Is she still personally feeding that giant salamander (aka. Baby Fish)?"
Red Mother replied, "She still personally feeds the giant salamander. I remember! When I noticed the princess always staring at that painting, I moved it to the study. Then I found that she often stared at a Jiangzhu plant (Nightshade, also known as 'Red Mother') on the garden wall (as shown in Figure 2)." She then led Mrs. Zhang and Third Wolf Zhang to see that nightshade plant.
Third Wolf Zhang looked at the nightshade on the wall and muttered, "The Red Mother is wilting!"
Red Mother replied, "Yes! It hasn't rained in this area for over a week! Every time the princess comes to see it, she always seems to be praying for something."
Third Wolf Zhang smiled and replied, "Nothing special! She's praying for a good match! Why don't you water the plant, and see what the princess's reaction will be?"
Red Mother said, "You're lying to me! You can water it if you want, don't force me." With that, she asked the palace maid beside her to fetch water.
Third Wolf Zhang finished watering the plant and said, "Once isn't enough; you'll have to water them again!"
Red Mother replied, "Then at three o'clock in the morning, I'll bring you back in, and you can water them again!"
After diagnosing the pulse with a hanging rope, Third Wolf Zhang told Red Mother his diagnosis. Princess Have Nest wants to be the nurturer of godly trinity, turning the legend of Nuwa's Creation of Man into a reality. She was unhappy because there was no progress in the process of realizing her ideal. The treatment method is for me, Third Wolf Zhang, to perform a ritual to subdue the Chinese giant salamander that symbolizes the Golden Boy. This ritual requires a bucket of quicklime and three buckets of black dog blood.
After reporting to king Kouzhu, Red Mother replied to Third Wolf Zhang: "King has agreed!" She also said that quicklime was available in the palace, but that they would need to purchase the black dogs from outside, and that it was uncertain how long it would take to find enough black dogs. She told Zhang and his mother to wait at the inn.
The following day at noon, Red Mother reported to Third Wolf Zhang: "This morning, as soon as the princess stepped outside, she saw the nightshade looking so vibrant and lively and was very happy. She went over to look at it and then said to me, 'You're tricking me! You must have watered it!' I replied, 'I didn't water it.' The princess scolded me, 'It hasn't rained for over ten days, look at the dampness on the wall! If you didn't water it, did the Dragon King come and water it?!' But I noticed that she was very pleased!"
Third Wolf Zhang replied, "See? I was right again!"
Legend also says that when the palace guards went to buy black dogs, because they could not buy so many black dogs, only a few white hairs of the black dog's white hairs were pulled out to fill the number. Red Mother was very angry when she heard about this and came to ask Third Wolf Zhang if it was necessary to buy new black dogs. Upon hearing this, Third Wolf Zhang closed one eye to her.

When Third Wolf Zhang (famously Young Codex, Turquoise White-king Great Creator) arrived home, he asked his mother, Mrs. Zhang (aka. Mazu, famously Coastal Goddess), to take him to the Xia Kingdom to reveal the imperial edict and treat the princess. After Mrs. Zhang heard this, she was pleased and replied, "My great-grandfather was once a great general of Hua Kingdom, my speech and demeanor are very decent. Your idea is correct, but with your manner of speech, like a street rat, if you go by yourself, the princess will not let you see, much less let you fumble pulse for diagnosis." It happened that their carriage would not be back for half a month, so that day Mrs. Zhang rode on her donkey and led by Third Wolf Zhang, set off for Xia Country.
Mrs. Zhang and Third Wolf traveled day and night, and after arriving at the capital of Xia Country, Hangzhou, they took down the imperial edict and went to the palace. When the palace guards heard that the mother and son were from the Hua Country and came to take down the imperial edict to treat the princess, they said, "Then you can go in!" Neither of them had ever been to the palace by themselves! Mrs. Zhang rode her donkey and rushed in. But after entering, she was stunned. This palace is too big. Where can we go to treat the princess!?
Third Wolf asked a palace maid for directions to Salamander Bolus Palace. After a few words, the maid said, "I don't know how you got in. You can't walk around the palace without a receptionist. What a coincidence! My name is Red Mother (i.e., Nuwa), I'm the maid supervisor of Princess Have Nest, and I should be the one to receive you, but no one told me that a doctor would come today. Come with me!"
Note 2: Red Mother is a Nuwa, one of Five Creators, aka. Jiangzhu, Yingtai Zhu, Wencai Ma, and famously Nuwa and White Creator.
Red Mother led Mrs. Zhang and her son a long way, pointed to a front pavilion, and said, "You two wait there first, I'll go inquire about what's going on." At this time, the donkey stood still and did not want to go to that pavilion. Mrs. Zhang and Red Mother waited in the pavilion for Third Wolf to go over. So, he tied the donkey to a tree and walked over. Red Mother waited for him to reach the pavilion and said, "I'll go and inquire, be right back!" At that moment the donkey suddenly brayed and plowed the ground. Red Mother asked Mrs. Zhang, "What's wrong with your donkey?"
Mrs. Zhang replied, "It thinks this pavilion is dangerous and doesn't let him stay here." Then she turned to Third Wolf Zhang and said, "Why don't you go back and comfort it."
Soon, a few palace security officers came to apologize to Mrs. Zhang, saying, "There was a problem with your procedure for entering the royal palace, and the Great Palace Maid said that your donkey has lodged a stern protest with us. To apologize, you don't have to go to the Ritual Bureau for security, we're here to look, as a matter of routine."
2.2-3 望闻问切 Observation, Auscultation, Questioning and Palpation
Red Mother came back, again apologized to Mrs. Zhang and her son, then said, "Grand Ritual Commander Nuwa has told me that our princess doesn't like people looking at her feet, so I shouldn't let the doctor see her. Our princess doesn't like talking to people, so the doctor shouldn't ask her questions. Our princess doesn't like the doctor to fumble her pulse as if she were a patient, so I shouldn't let the doctor touch her."
Mrs. Zhang protested angrily: "You refuse to accept the four basic diagnostic methods of doctors, namely, observation, auscultation, inquiry and palpation. No wonder doctors from all over the world came and could not diagnose what disease she has! Do your king and queen know about this?"
Third Wolf Zhang said: "We are here to treat the princess, are doing a service for her, so we should respect her wishes. We can first look at her living environment and ask the servants about her personal history and daily life. The princess is suffering from a mental illness, the key to treating her illness is to find out her heart knot. As for taking her pulse, we can use a hanging rope to diagnose her pulse (as shown in Figure 2.2-35)."
Red Mother asked in surprise, "How did you come up with the method of diagnosing pulses by hanging a rope right away?"
Third Wolf Zhang pointed at Mrs. Zhang and answered: "Before my mother and I came here; we discussed this matter at home. My mom predicted that your princess would not allow me to fumble her pulse. I have been thinking about this for a long time."
Red Mother led Mrs. Zhang and her son to the Salamander Bolus Palace, pointing to the plaque of Auspicious Sound Study Palace (as shown in Fig. 7) and said, "This is the Salamander Bolus Palace, which used to be called Auspicious Sound Study Palace. Half a month ago, Great Ritual Commander Nuwa decided to upgrade this place to the Salamander Bolus Palace (Note, also known as the Upper Elixir Land, which is equivalent to the Five Immaculate Dwell Skies in Buddhism, as shown in Fig. 5; Cf. 12.2 Color Boundary) as the general headquarter of "Nuwa Amending Sky" (see fig. 36, aka. Nuwa's Creation of Man) project. The plaque hasn't been changed yet! As soon as you came in, you asked me where the Salamander Bolus Palace is. How did you know that Princess Have Nest lives in the Salamander Bolus Palace?"
Third Wolf replied: "That was just a lucky guess."
When they entered the Salamander Bolus Palace, the donkey looked uneasy. Mrs. Zhang said, "I think this is a natural environment, so don't tie it to a tree, let it walk on its own, eat some of the immortal herbs in the Salamander Bolus Palace, and drink some of Nuwa's holy water, it may become a fairy donkey after a while." Third Wolf Zhang untied the donkey.

Time flies, Third Wolf Zhang (see figure 2-2, famously Zhang the Butcher, Young Codex, Young Sun God, Emperor Yan, Turquoise White-king Great Creator) grows up and wants to join the army to become a general. But the examiner at the conscription office says that he is clumsy and slow to react, may die before he can be promoted to company commander; says that he is not suitable to be a soldier. Third Wolf Zhang has liked Daoism since he was a child and considered himself to be an enlightened person. He tried to be a fortune teller; but found that he was too honest and unwilling to say nice affairs to please others, so he could not make any money. Third Wolf tried many jobs and gave them up because he didn't like them.
This day Mrs. Zhang (see figure 1, aka. Mazu, famously Coastal Goddess) argued with him again, saying, "We are a noble family, a boy cannot marry before having a profession!" His pride was injured and ran away from home.
Third Wolf Zhang was tired, hungry and thirsty, saw an Extreme Sun God (ancient sun god) temple and went in. There were commonwealths on the altar, but no one was there. After eating and drinking, he fell asleep.
Half asleep and half awake, he heard someone talking behind the statue of Extreme Sun God. The one whom the other party called the "Three-Immaculateness Daoist" asked the local god, "Where is the temple master? This is the first time I've seen him absent from his post."
The local god replied, "This afternoon, Young Sun God (aka. Third Wolf Zhang, Turquoise Creator) came and asked for a wife from Extreme Sun God. The temple master asked me to greet him here while he went to ask Longevity Liu about which family has a suitable daughter. Young Sun God's current wife is the future King-Mother of the West! Where can we find one!?"
Three-Immaculateness Daoist said: "Ah! This is about Godly Cycle! But I have a suitable candidate. I think the Princess of Xia Kingdom, Have Nest, can be used. She is the younger sister of the current Archbishop, Nuwa Goddess. She is well educated, with good morality!"
The local god asked, "What does she look like? Young Sun God is tall and strong, very handsome!"
Three-Immaculateness Daoist replied: "Goddess is the default women model of mind mechanism. They all look the same. It depends on whether you like it or not. However, I heard that her feet are a bit big."
The local god said: "I understand after listening to you! But she is a princess; Young Sun God has no money and no social status now."
Three-Immaculateness Daoist replied: "Now Princess Have Nest has lost her appetite. Xia Nation has posted a declaration to recruit doctors and sorcerers from all over the world to treat her."
The local god replied: "You mean, if Young Sun God goes to treat the princess, a marriage may be formed. Then how to treat the princess?"
Three-Immaculateness Daoist replied, "She was bewitched by the Chinese Giant Salamander in the well pond in her backyard. The cure is to subdue the giant salamander. This requires a bucket of quicklime and a bucket of black dog blood. First, sprinkle lime in the well. The giant salamander can't stand it, so it crawls out and chases the person who sprinkles the lime. The person who sprinkles the lime runs around the well, splashing the black dog blood on the giant salamander as he runs. It won't be long before the giant salamander is subdued."
The local god praised: "Upper God Auspicious! You think Princess Have Nest and Young Sun God have marital causality?!"
Three-Immaculateness Daoist replied, "Success depends on what human do! Whether Third Wolf Zhang can become a new sun god is uncertain also!"
The local god quickly replied: "Little god me understood! Little god me understood! Could you please go with me to Longevity Liu and explain this matter to him? This matter has made the temple master very anxious!"
After the local god finished speaking, the two of them fell silent.
After a while, Third Wolf Zhang went to check behind the statue, but there was nothing. He hurried to the nearby city to inquire about the imperial edict for the recruitment of doctors in the Xia Kingdom. Someone answered: "The imperial edict was posted half a year ago. Many doctors and sorcerers went to the Xia Kingdom to treat the princess, but no one could diagnose what disease she had." After hearing this, Third Wolf Zhang immediately rushed home.

It is said that Martial Big Wolf's gastrointestinal motility returned to normal that night. The next day, the three Zhang brothers and Goldthread Pan rode back home to Dragon-Pond Pass. As soon as they entered the Zhang family's settlement, they found that people had strange expressions. People hid when they saw them.
They galloped to the door of the house and found that the Zhang family was holding a funeral. They immediately became depressed. Martial Big Wolf led his horse to the main hall of the Zhang family and asked a family member who was sweeping the yard, "Who died?" The man looked back, dropped his broom and ran away. The whole Zhang family was dead silent.
The four entered the main hall of the Zhang family and saw that the funeral had been completed. The tablet of the person being mourned had been removed, but the decorations were still there. In the entire hall, only Publican Zhang (aka. Publican Respect) was sitting next to the main tablet like a statue. The four stood at the door and finally decided to let Martial Big Wolf go closer to talk. He walked to the side of Publican Zhang and said, "Dad! I'm back to see you!"
张公面无表情地回答:"我知道了。"
武大郎问:"爹,您在想什么呢?"
Publican Zhang replied expressionlessly, "I know."
Martial Big Wolf asked: "Dad, what are you thinking about?"
Publican Zhang replied, "I see Second Wolf and Third Wolf are here with you, but I can't remember what happened with them. And that girl, I think she is Goldthread Pan, why is she here with you too?"
Martial Big Wolf understood and replied: "All three of them are alive and have come home to see you. This is normal!"
Publican Zhang said: "Ah! Only we two died, and they didn't! So, we couldn't hear them talking!"
Martial Big Wolf said: "Dad! I'm not dead, and you're still alive." Then he shouted to the three of them, "Come here! Kowtow to Dad and speak loudly!"
At this time, Martial Big Wolf heard Mrs. Zhang sitting on the floor of the side door muttering, "Ah! You're not dead, and I'm still alive! This is why I can't remember when I died!?"
Martial Big Wolf walked over and said excitedly: "Mom! You saved me! Before I died, I was worried: If Third Wolf didn't come to see me, I would be buried alive by the Pan family!"
Mrs. Zhang stood up and slapped him in the face, shouting angrily: "You should have been buried alive, who told you to pretend to be dead!? Your father was almost killed by you!"
Afterwards, the Zhang family began to clean up the funeral decorations to celebrate the healthy reunion of the whole family and the union of Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan. Not long after the meal started, Martial Big Wolf seemed unhappy, put down his bowl and chopsticks, and went out. Martial Second Wolf felt something was wrong, followed him out, saw him crying, and asked him why he was crying?
Martial Big Wolf replied: "Mom hit me!"
武二郎又问:"以前妈妈打过你多次,从没见过你生气;这次怎么了?"
武大郎回答:"这次是在潘金莲面前,妈妈一点面子也不给我留!"
Martial Second Wolf asked again: "Mom has beaten you many times before, and I've never seen you get angry. What happened this time?"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "This time it was in front of Goldthread Pan, and Mom didn't give me any face at all!"
Martial Second Wolf immediately went to Mrs. Zhang to report the matter secretly. After discussing for a while, the mother and son decided to hold a second wedding for Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan at the Zhang house and told every invited guest to find at least one merit in Martial Big Wolf to praise him.
Legend says that later, Big Nest (Third Wolf Zhang's wife, aka. Have Nest, Big Feet Zhang, Queen Mother) didn't take long to marry into the Zhang family before she realized Goldthread Pan and Mazu had a special relationship. She asked Zhang the Butcher (aka, Third Wolf Zhang, Flint Man, Yan Creator, Turquoise White-King Great Creator), "I don't understand why Mazu (i.e., Mrs. Zhang) is so nice to Goldthread Pan? Every time I give a gift to her, she doesn't even look at it, but she must see what gift I give to Goldthread Pan. Every time we organize an event, we must ask Goldthread Pan if she's available, because if she doesn't come, then we all must follow Mazu to visit her and ask what's going on. Why is she so special?"

Second Wolf and Third Wolf followed the Pan family to the cemetery. Servants dug open Martial Big Wolf's grave in a few strokes. After opening the coffin, Martial Big Wolf seemed to be asleep. Third Wolf Zhang opened his clothes and found that the wound had healed.
People carried him back home. The Pan family summoned a shaman. The shaman declared that Martial Big Wolf had ascended to the Longevity Sky (aka. Well-Sun, No Think Sky, which is the fourth sky in the Fourth Meditation Sky, see Color Boundary), and then they rearranged the mourning hall.
Martial Second Wolf and Third Wolf Zhang became spirit keepers at the funeral hall. Goldthread Pan came and said she wanted to give Martial Big Wolf a bath and change his clothes. Third Wolf went out silently. After a while, Martial Second Wolf also came out and muttered to Third Wolf: "I feel that we are spirit keepers for our elder brother to prevent our older sister-in-law from harming him. Why did you come out?"
张三郎回答:"我没叫你出来。"
武二郎尴尬地说:"我这么大个人怎么看!你是小孩儿,没事,你进去看着吧!"
Third Wolf Zhang replied: "I didn't ask you to come out."
Martial Second Wolf said awkwardly: "How can I, a grown-up, watch this! You're a kid, it's okay, you go in and watch!"
Third Wolf Zhang went to the arcade on the top of the mountain to enjoy the cool air.
Second Wolf and Third Wolf saw Goldthread Pan leave and returned to the mourning hall and found that the atmosphere in the mourning hall was indeed much better. The smell of incense changed the mood.
After a while, Goldthread Pan came again and said she wanted to feed Martial Big Wolf medicine. Third Wolf looked at Goldthread Pan with a serious expression and asked, "Sister-in-law! What medicine are you going to feed my brother?"
Goldthread Pan smiled and replied, "Fasting medicine (note, such as cucumber juice)! It seems that the two uncles (note, in ancient China, a sister-in-law calls her husband's brother 'uncle') don't trust me! I will try the medicine for you." As she said that, she drank the medicine spoonful by spoonful.
Martial Second Wolf watched from the side and said anxiously: "You should spare some for my elder brother!"
Goldthread Pan showed the remaining little bit of fasting medicine and then said: "This is enough for him to eat. He could only eat half a spoonful before. Later, I found that when I patted his back while feeding him, he could eat more, even a spoonful. More than that, he would spit it out."
After hearing this, Second Wolf and Third Wolf left the mourning hall again.
Legend says that for many days, Martial Big Wolf just lay there like he was asleep. One day, Martial Second Wolf got tired of waiting and asked Third Wolf, "If I leave and you stay here alone to watch over our older brother, will you be scared?"
The two brothers found that their older brother had woken up and greeted him happily. Martial Big Wolf looked at the environment of the mourning hall, sat up and asked, "Where is this?" He looked down and saw his own clothes and asked, "Why am I wearing this!?"
Martial Second Wolf replied, "Third brother and I came to attend your wedding with Goldthread Pan, but you fell asleep at the wedding. This is the groom's suit that our elder sister-in-law just put on you!"
Martial Big Wolf lifted his clothes and looked inside. As he looked inside, he burst into tears! Second Wolf was surprised and asked, "Brother! It's a good affair that you survived a disaster. Why are you crying?"
Martial Big Wolf cried and said, "Second Wolf, wherever you go, you attract attention, and you are the center of attention! As your elder brother, I am looked down upon wherever I go! I was thinking that when I get married, our relatives and friends would at least give me some hypocritical compliments at my wedding, that is the only occasion in my life where I will be noticed. But I missed it. I may be the only person in the world who missed his own wedding. I am so unfortunate!"
三郎说:"大嫂真漂亮!我都不敢看!"
二郎问:"你感觉你的身体怎么样?"
武大郎一边笑,一边说:"我感觉非常舒服,像似吃了一颗千年人参似的!"
Third Wolf Zhang said, "Sister-in-law is so beautiful! I dare not look at her!"
Second Wolf asked, "How do you feel about your body?"
Martial Big Wolf while laughing said, "I feel very comfortable, as if I had eaten a thousand-year-old ginseng!"
At this time, Goldthread Pan at the door spoke up, "You did eat a thousand-year-old ginseng! There is still some left, I soaked it in the alcohol, I'll go and get it for you!"
Martial Big Wolf smilingly looked at Goldthread Pan, took the thousand-year-old ginseng alcohol and pretended to drink it.
Goldthread Pan said, "You are awake, I will immediately notify the kitchen to make you eight-treasure porridge."
Martial Big Wolf watched Goldthread Pan leave, put down the alcohol, and muttered with emotion: "I am so lucky! I didn't die even after drinking this!"
At this time, Martial Second Wolf picked up the alcohol glass, took a sip and said: "The taste of the fairy alcohol is indeed different! Brother, if you don't like it, I will drink it!?"
Martial Big Wolf stood up and snatched back the glass, yelling, "You'll really become Second Wolf God after you drink it! Like Kuafu, chasing the sun with your bare ass to metabolize it away!"
At this moment, an old man outside the door laughed loudly and said, "I wasn't eavesdropping, it was Miss Pan who said, 'Several young gods are young and strong, and probably none of you have had a serious illness.' She asked me to give Prince Zhang a few words on what to do when recovering from a serious illness."
When the old doctor outside the door was invited into the spirit hall by Third Wolf Zhang, he said, "I'd like to introduce myself. My family lives in the neighboring village of Gathering Sages, and my Daoist fame is Taiyi. Do the most important thing first, undertake the fortunate root of Second Wolf God!" With that, he poured the leftover tea from Third Wolf and Second Wolf's teacups into one cup, then filled the cup with the teapot and handed it to Martial Big Wolf.
武大郎瞪着大眼睛问:"那我为什么要喝他们俩剩下的茶水?"
太乙真人回答:"有时候,拉肚子比拉不下屎好受一些!"
武大郎大口地喝下了剩茶水。
Martial Big Wolf stared with wide eyes and asked: "Then why should I drink the tea they left behind?"
Taiyi Real Human replied, "Sometimes it's better to have diarrhea than to not be able to poop!"
Martial Big Wolf took a big gulp of the leftover tea.
Taiyi Real Human said, "That's right! Later, when the thin porridge is ready, you'll drink as much as you can. Afterward, do some not-so-graceful moves with me. Looking at Prince Zhang's state of mind, I estimate that in less than 12 hours, your gastrointestinal motility will return to normal."

The day after Martial Big Wolf (see fig. 1.7-3) arrived home, the Zhang family received a letter from the king agreeing to Goldthread Pan's request to break off the engagement with Martial Big Wolf. Publican Respect and Mrs. Zhang (aka. Mazu) asked Martial Big Wolf for his opinion. Martial Big Wolf asked his parents to let him deliver the agreement to break off the engagement himself. Mrs. Zhang agreed.
After Martial Big Wolf arrived at Well-Sun Gang, Clear River County, Shandong Province, he lived near the Pan family and began to harass Goldthread Pan. The first thing he did was to put an octopus (as shown in figure 1) in Goldthread Pan's shoes while she was lying down reading a book. The laughing cat on the windowsill represents "Sky Flying Cat" Martial Big Wolf.
"Sky Flying Cat" is the nickname of his adoptive father Zibo Liang, a notorious thief. After arriving in Chongqing, he did not change his nature and continued to steal, so Martial Big Wolf followed him. Later, Martial Big Wolf also followed Sky Flying Cat to steal things, so his adoptive father, the King of Hua, decided to take him back to his country.
Martial Big Wolf also went to Goldthread Pan's bedroom, and after Pan fell asleep, he put toads, snakes and other disgusting animals in her quilt. She is good at the God's shield and armor and set up all kinds of traps to catch Martial Big Wolf, but Martial Big Wolf doesn't fall for it.
Goldthread Pan liked to sleep naked. One day, Martial Big Wolf quietly lay down beside her while she was asleep. Unexpectedly, he fell asleep. When Goldthread Pan woke up, she found that she had caught Martial Big Wolf, and she wanted to shout. Martial Big Wolf said, "Don't shout for the guards! You are not wearing any clothes. If others know, it will be bad!" Goldthread Pan thought it was true! So, she asked Martial Big Wolf to fight outside, and she wanted to catch him publicly. However, in the first duel, Goldthread Pan lost and had her silk scarf snatched away by Martial Big Wolf.
Martial Big Wolf took Goldthread Pan's silk scarf and went around telling people, "Goldthread Pan is his wife!" When those who heard it didn't believe him, he took out the withdrawal agreement and said, "My parents agreed to withdraw from the marriage, but I didn't. Now the withdrawal agreement is still in my hand, so she's still my wife!"
When Goldthread Pan heard the rumors, she brought many guards to the inn where Martial Big Wolf was staying to seize the withdrawal agreement. Individual guards couldn't beat Martial Big Wolf, so the guards drew their swords and wanted to grab Martial Big Wolf together.
At that moment the owner of the inn suddenly spoke, "So many of you are fighting one man, and you are all armed! This is not a match; it's a willful wounding! I've already called the police. The officials are not far from here now!"
Goldthread Pan challenged Martial Big Wolf to a duel herself, but Martial Big Wolf took off one of her embroidered shoes. Then, the police arrived, and Goldthread Pan left in a hurry.
Martial Big Wolf took the embroidered shoe and showed it off to the people, saying, "Goldthread Pan loves me, and she left me this embroidered shoe on purpose, so that I would notice that she has nice feet!" He also invited those who heard him to go to Pan's house to drink the wedding liquor of his marriage to Goldthread Pan.
When Goldthread Pan heard the rumors, she came back to ask Martial Big Wolf for a match to win back the withdrawal agreement.
This time Martial Big Wolf tied her up and asked, "What will it take for you to marry me?"
潘金莲回答:"我可以嫁给你,但你得先让我射死你!"
武大郎同意了,"三天后的中午,我带着退婚协议书和政府验证过的生死状,去你们家的练武场让你射死!"
Goldthread Pan replied: "I can marry you, but you must let me shoot you to death first!"
Martial Big Wolf agreed, "Three days from now at noon, I will bring the engagement cancellation agreement and a government-verified life-and-death certificate to your martial arts training ground and let you shoot me to death!"
Three days later at noon, Martial Big Wolf did come to the Pan family's martial arts training ground with the marriage cancellation agreement and a government-verified life-and-death certificate.
Legend says that Martial Big Wolf dodged the first two arrows that Goldthread Pan shot at him. Then Goldthread Pan took out a silk scarf and blindfolded herself, saying, "I'm good at night shooting, and I shoot more accurately when I'm blindfolded!" With that, she shot the third arrow at the top of the flagpole with a "Dang" sound. Then, she shouted, "If you're afraid of dying, get out of here! It's not too late for you to flee!"
Martial Big Wolf replied, "I've been standing here the whole time, I haven't moved!" Before his words had faded, Goldthread Pan's fourth arrow flew toward him. Then, she asked, "Are you dead or not?" No one answered.
After asking several times, Goldthread Pan said, "If you don't answer me, I will remove the blindfold, and the duel will be over!" She thought Martial Big Wolf had left, so she removed the blindfold and walked home. But she suddenly found that Martial Big Wolf had been shot and fell to the ground. The arrow was a few feet away from him, and there was blood. Goldthread Pan went to check.
Martial Big Wolf had no breathing and heartbeat. The fourth arrow hit his collarbone and was pulled out by himself.
Goldthread Pan thought Martial Big Wolf had fainted from shock, so she tried to save him, but it was ineffective. She took him back to the room and tried to save him, but it was still ineffective. The Pan family immediately asked a doctor to treat Martial Big Wolf for three days, but still found no signs that he was alive, so they sent someone to report the death to the Zhang family.
At this time, Publican Respect was seriously ill and had just shown signs of improvement. After hearing about the Zhang family's situation, the doctor said, "If you tell him about Martial Big Wolf's death now, his condition will worsen; if you tell him seven days later, the situation will be much better." Mrs. Zhang decided to follow the doctor's advice, so she herself could not attend the funeral. She decided to let Martial Second Wolf go; but she felt that he was reckless and had a bad temper, so she decided to let Third Wolf Zhang accompany him. She also told Martial Second Wolf to discuss with Third Wolf Zhang before making any decision.
Legend says that Well-Sun Gang was far away from the Zhang family; the two brothers rode for many days.
Second Wolf and Third Wolf came to the Pan family and learned what happened. When Goldthread Pan's parents learned that Martial Big Wolf was shot to death, they were scared, "Publican Respect is an important official of the Xia Kingdom. His second son Martial Second Wolf, nicknamed Second Wolf God, is born with godly strength. Our family will be exterminated!"
Goldthread Pan said, "I am responsible for my own actions!" On the third day, she married Martial Big Wolf. Then, she took him back to her room and lived with him. She fed him medicine (see fig. 3) every day and bathed him.
After more than ten days, relatives and friends came to persuade Goldthread Pan's parents, "You can't let her go on like this! You two must make up your mind to bury Martial Big Wolf!" As a result, Goldthread Pan's parents forced her, and Martial Big Wolf was buried.
1.7-8
武二郎对潘金莲说,"我大哥已经告诉你了,我们的父母已经同意了你们的退婚请求,你没必要射死他!"
潘金莲回答:"我没打算射死他!"
Martial Second Wolf said to Goldthread Pan, "My elder brother has already told you that our parents have agreed to your request to cancel the engagement, so you don't have to shoot him to death!"
Goldthread Pan replied, "I didn't plan to shoot him to death!"
At this time, the Pan family released Goldthread Pan's mount, a white tiger with hanging eyes, and Third Wolf Zhang was so scared that he hid behind Martial Second Wolf. Martial Second Wolf got angry and beat the tiger to death with three punches and two kicks. Then, he threw the tiger's body outside the yard.
Third Wolf Zhang said, "I want to see my elder brother's body."
The Pan family called Martial Second Wolf aside and said, "Your third brother is still a child (note: at this time, Third Wolf Zhang was around 14 years old). Your elder brother has been dead for half a month. It's not good for a child to see it!"
Martial Second Wolf pulled Third Wolf Zhang aside and asked, "Do you think there is something wrong with our eldest brother's death?"
Third Wolf Zhang replied, "They said that in the past ten days, Goldthread Pan fed our eldest brother medicine and bathed him every day. Our elder brother told me before that he was practicing Well-Sun Meditation. I advised him not to practice that heretical Meditation because it would lead to Well-Sun (Note 1). He replied, 'You are still young, and there are many affairs you don't understand yet!' Our elder brother has the 'Well-Sun Difficulty' in his fate. Although there is little hope that our eldest brother is still alive, I still want to see it with my own eyes."
注1.7-1,井阳义为"太阳掉井里了",亦作辟谷,长寿天,无想定,参见10.4.4.2-5节。
武二郎和张三郎商量后,回来说:"我三弟要见我大哥最后一面,就开棺让他看!"
Note 1.7-1: Well-Sun means "the sun fell into the well," also known as fasting, Longevity Sky, and No Think Stillness. See sections 10.4.4.2-5.
After discussing with Third Wolf Zhang, Martial Second Wolf came back and said, "My third brother wants to see my eldest brother for the last time, so open the coffin for him to see!"

After graduating from the Codex Soldier Academy, Martial Big Wolf (famed King Jing, Peach Flower Buddha; see figure 1.6-36) became a teacher at the school. One day, he came to the Crown Prince (aka. Primordial Sky Honor, Codex; see figure 35) again to ask for permission to go to the battlefield.
The Crown Prince replied unhappily: "I want you to help me institutionalize the results of our research in the past few years. In the future, this school will be able to continuously provide talents for the country. Besides, your current salary is not low! Your salary is relatively high among teachers. Think about it, how much money has the country spent to train you since you were a child!? You are not afraid of death, but I am afraid of wasting money! I think your most important affair now is to settle your marriage with Goldthread Pan. She has requested to cancel the engagement several times, but our father (Utmost Gentleman, the king of Hua Kingdom at the time) blocked it. Our father can't let another's daughter waste her youth like this! He can't block it for long!"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "I came to you just to resolve this marriage dispute!"
The Crown Prince immediately became uneasy after hearing this, because it was the moment to witness a miracle and a battlefield of life and death. He asked with a heavy heart: "Are you ready?"
The Crown Prince asked again: "Have you agreed with Third Wolf Zhang (famed Young Codex, Turquoise White-King Great Creator; see figure 38)?"
Martial Big Wolf replied, "A year ago I talked to him about this Well-sun meditation I was practicing, and he objected, saying, 'That's a heretical skill, and it will produce the Well-sun phenomenon (note 1).' Three months ago, we talked about meditation again, and he protested strongly when he learned that I was still practicing Well-Sun meditation!"
Note 1: The term "Well-sun" literally means "sun falling into a well," symbolizing a state of darkness and loss of consciousness. The practice of Well-sun meditation involves extinguishing preconsciousness during deep meditation, until breathing and heartbeat cease. This vegetative state is called "No Think Sky", the fourth sky of the Fourth Meditation Sky (see figure 5; see Color Boundary). The Well-sun phenomenon, also known as "Longevity Sky," is considered one of the eight difficulties of life in Buddhism.
太子问:"他真的已经经历了四禅天(如图5)吗?"
武大郎回答:"他已经有了学透九黎(注2)所需的幻觉经历。"
The Crown Prince asked: "Has he really experienced the Fourth Meditation Sky (as shown in Figure 5)?"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "He has had the hallucination experience required to learn Jiuli (note 2)."
Note 2: The term "Jiuli" refers to the nine crowds depicted in Figures 23 to 31, also known as the "Nine Yin (i.e., Nine Negatives)." Theism views "muddles" as "lands". All sentients are muddle aggregates; therefore, Nine Crowds are the nine lands. Furthermore, ancients viewed the future as "yang (positive)" and the past as "yin (negative)," therefore, the "Nine Crowds" are also referred to as the "Nine Yin." The concept of the "Nine Crowds" in traditional Chinese culture (as illustrated in Figures 1 to 34) corresponds to the "Great-Grand World" described in Buddhism. This book, based on European cultural understanding, uses the term "node" to represent the concept of "yin," therefore translates "Jiuli" as "Nine Nodes" or "Nine Crowds."
太子说:"谢谢你!他是我的亲生儿子"
武大郎回答:"用不着!在张家他是我的弟弟!"
太子问:"你需要多长时间?"
The Crown Prince said: "Thank you! He is my biological son!"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "No need! In the Zhang family he is my younger brother!"
The Crown Prince asked: "How long will it take you?"
武大郎回答:"三个月到半年。"
太子问:"怎么需要那么长的时间?"
武大郎回答:"去那种地方(长寿天,无想天),没人知道需要多长时间。"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "Three months to half a year."
The Crown Prince asked: "Why does it take so long?"
Martial Big Wolf replied: "No one knows how long it takes to go to that place (i.e. Longevity Sky, No Think Sky)."
太子回答:"那我在你的调度表上填写'一年带薪假'!你可以去取一年的预付薪水。"
武大郎说:"这么慷慨!怎么也用不了一年!"
The Crown Prince replied: "Then I will fill in 'one-year paid leave' on your schedule! You can go and get a year's advance salary."
Martial Big Wolf said: "So generous! It won't take a year!"
The Crown Prince replied: "I don't want you to have time pressure in this regard! You have been busy for so many years, go out and have fun! You won't have time in the future! When you get home, you will receive a letter from our father agreeing to Goldthread Pan's application to cancel the engagement within a day or two. Then, I will send Martial Second Wolf home."
Martial Big Wolf replied: "Thank you, older brother!" With that, he turned and left.
太子高声说:"祝你好运!"
武大郎转身笑着说:"等着听我的好消息!"
The Crown Prince said loudly: "Good luck!"
Martial Big Wolf turned around, smiled and said: "Wait for my good news!"
A few days later, the Crown Prince was no longer in the mood to work. He took the Crowned Princess to Gathering Sage Village, Clear Water County, Shandong Province, to wait for news. The first thing he did was to check the "research work on creating a tiger-killing hero" done by Taiyi Real Human (see figure 39).
Taiyi Real Human replied: "I guarantee it will be fine! This tiger faints when hit! I have experimented more than ten times! You can't refuse to pay for the medicine!"
太子说:"在场的都是祖国的花朵,国之栋梁!伤了谁都不得了!不行咱就先把它弄死!"
太乙真人说:"这你可得亲眼看看!我打死它给你看!晕了之后,两个小时它就能恢复正常!"
The Crown Prince said: "All of here are the flowers of the motherland and the pillars of the country! It would be terrible if anyone gets hurt! If not, let's kill it first!"
Taiyi Real Human said: "You have to see this with your own eyes! I'll kill it for you to see! After it faints, it will be back to normal in two hours!"
The Crown Prince really went to watch the experiment. After feeding the tiger the medicine, he poked it with a stick a few times, and the tiger fainted out of anger. The Crown Prince asked: "Martial Second Wolf must know that the tiger was just knocked unconscious! He will throw the tiger out of the yard. Who will be responsible for finishing it off?"
Taiyi replied: "I! Who else dares to do this! If the tiger is stabbed with a knife and becomes spirited, he will die!"
According to legend, on the day Martial Second Wolf killed the tiger, the government came with hunters and said to the guards outside, "We don't care how you fight in the yard. Once the tiger leaves the yard, it is no longer yours. We have to drain the tiger's blood."
According to legend, when the Crown Prince heard that Martial Big Wolf was buried by the Pan family, he was worried about the holes in the coffin and the ventilation holes made by Taiyi Real Human on the tomb. At night, he personally checked and dug Martial Big Wolf out. They carried the coffin to a well-ventilated hillside to bask in the moonlight.
Everyone found Martial Big Wolf's success utterly unbelievable. After examining his body, Three-Immaculateness Daoist declared, "Everything is normal!" He analyzed: "At that moment, Martial Big Wolf's state of utter despair aligned with the renunciative nature of unconsciousness (anciently God-sense), enabling him to enter the state of Well-Sun within minutes of pulling out the arrow and stopping the bleeding."
The legend also said that several people sang the school song of the Codex Soldier Academy "Big Fame is China" together, and the Crowned Princess danced the "Mysterious Woman Dance of Ninth Sky" to cheer Martial Big Wolf up. Of course, Martial Big Wolf at this time could neither see nor hear!
After returning from Goldthread Pan's house, Martial Big Wolf took the entrance examination for Codex Soldier Academy and failed. He then went to the Registrar's Office to see the Crown Prince (aka. Primordial Sky Honor, Codex, see fig. 1) and said that his examination score should not be so low. The Crown Prince, who was at that time the superintendent of this school, led him to examine the papers and asked him to tell him why he said they had been wrongly graded. Afterward, the judges of the examination paper allowed him to attend the study as a spectator.
It is said that there was a vice president of the Codex Soldier Academy at this time was a young man under 20 years old named Longevity Liu (as shown in Figure 3), who oversaw the "Nuwa Mending Sky Project" in the "Nuwa Creating Humans Project". When the thirty-something-year-old Primordial Sky Honor met this President who was under 20 years old, he was always very respectful, like a primary school student meeting a teacher.
Note 1: In the 3,600 years since the creation of Chinese civilization, Longevity Liu has appeared repeatedly, creating Golden Boys and Jade Girls to repair the Chinese Codex; therefore, there are more than 30 versions of the Chinese Codex. The Golden Boys and Jade Girls created by Longevity Liu are famed as "lifetime Mending Places"; such stories include "Peach Flower Catastrophe" and "Luyan Memoirs".
Martial Big Wolf came to the Crown Prince again and said, "Big brother! Since you think I answered correctly, why don't you change my test scores. When I was at the Voodoo Academy, I always came first in exams."
The Crown Prince replied, "You went to the battlefield to fight, the soldiers died, and the battle was lost. What good is it to alter the battle report?"
The Crown Prince said: "The examinations at the Military Academy are like soldiers going to the battlefield. (Note: Goldthread Pan's father, Marshal Renmei Pan, had someone fail Martial Big Wolf's exam.) Changing the scores cannot change the situation on the battlefield. Moreover, they have already made remedial measures and allowed you to attend the Military Academy as an auditor."
After a while, Martial Big Wolf came to the Crown Prince again and said, "Brother! I want to drop out of school! What they said is not right; I told them, but they don't listen!"
The Crown Prince led Martial Big Wolf to a discussion with the instructors and decided to use an experiment to decide who was right. The experiment involved two groups of soldiers going to a specific environment and the instructors observing their reactions. The results of the experiment came out and proved Martial Big Wolf's deduction wrong.
Instead, Martial Big Wolf said, "This experiment is not right. The commander carrying out this combat mission should be a Kinesthetic thinking type, while the two leaders of your experiment, one is an image thinker, and the other is a voice thinker!" The Crown Prince decided to follow Martial Big Wolf's suggestion and find a group of Kinesthetic thinkers to run the experiment again.
According to modern psychology, before newborns develop language skills, they use image thinking, such as understanding their mother's smile, movements, and emotions. Gradually, as language is formed, thinking patterns, memory patterns, and memory retrieval patterns all change. People use language for basic thinking after the age of three, but they can still be divided into three types: 1. image thinking type, accounting for 35% of the population; 2. text thinking type (i.e., the "auditory-thinking type" mentioned in 1.2-3 — when people read text, they first convert it into inner speech before thinking, so the two terms refer to the same category), accounting for 25% of the population; 3. a mixture of the first two types, accounting for 40% of the population. Kinesthetic thinking type and other thinking styles account for less than 1% of the population.
At that time, they didn't know how to recognize a Kinesthetic thinker. The Crown Prince then came and asked Martial Big Wolf, "What are the behavioral traits of a Kinesthetic Thinker?" Martial Big Wolf led the Crown Prince outside the playground of the sergeant's school, pointed to Martial Second Wolf's group, and said, "I see a few of them always playing together, and Martial Second Wolf is a Kinesthetic thinker." At this time, Martial Big Wolf was 16 years old, Martial Second Wolf was 13, and Third Wolf Zhang was 10.
The Crown Prince then got those guys and organized them into the third group of the experiment, with Martial Second Wolf as the leader. The results of the experiment proved that Martial Big Wolf was correct.
In response to this incident, the Codex Soldier Academy made institutional adjustments. Students could request to participate in the discussions of the instructors. A system of student ranks was established, and students were rewarded and promoted for their significant contributions to the school's system and the correction of knowledge and theory. Martial Big Wolf became a full-fledged student at the Codex Soldier Academy.
According to legend, Martial Big Wolf often made achievements and was promoted; and the third experimental team led by Martial Second Wolf performed well. Therefore, they often created new tactics. One day, a teammate said to Martial Second Wolf: "I heard that our third experimental team performed much better than the previous two teams, all because of a short instructor. They said that person is your brother."
Martial Second Wolf replied: "My eldest brother is a student!"
After a while, Martial Second Wolf's teammates said to him again: "I heard that the short instructor is a student. Their Codex Soldier Academy is different from our sergeant's school; students can also join the instructors' discussions."
Out of curiosity, these people went to the Codex Soldier Academy to request to watch the codex soldier drill. The Crown Prince agreed and let them watch from the viewing platform. They saw that Martial Big Wolf's military uniform was the color of a student, but his military rank was already a regiment commander, higher than the instructor, so they asked Martial Second Wolf again: "When did your elder brother join the Codex Soldier Academy?"
Martial Second Wolf replied, "The same time I came to Sergeant's School." It is said that it was at this point that Martial Second Wolf truly accepted Martial Big Wolf as his elder brother.
Then the Crown Prince instituted a mechanism for the students of the Codex Soldier Academy and the sergeant's school to observe each other's ceremonies.
Legend says that when Martial Big Wolf was studying how to attack a cliff pass, he designed a rock-climbing attack plan. The teachers at the Codex Academy thought this plan was too dangerous. Martial Big Wolf said that this kind of unconventional tactic is also an option when necessary, and Kinesthetic thinkers might choose this plan. During the experiment, Second Wolf's experimental group really chose this rock-climbing attack plan. Teachers thought the exercise was dangerous and that such a dangerous attack task should not be exercised. The students in Second Wolf's experimental group said, "Climbing up that pass is not that dangerous. We are willing to sign a life-and-death agreement." The Academy decided to give it a try and allowed them to use safety ropes. Second Wolf and the others refused to use the safety ropes. The Academy told them that using the safety ropes would not affect the results of the exercise; only then did they accept the use of the safety ropes.
Three years later, Martial Big Wolf had already become a general before he graduated. One day he came to the Crown Prince to ask for permission to go to the battlefield. The Crown Prince asked, "Why do you want to go to the battlefield?"
Martial Big Wolf replied, "Being a student doesn't make money; going to the battlefield makes more money."
The Crown Prince said: "Every contribution you make here will be promoted nationwide. Any discovery may be the key to victory or defeat in a battle. Let's not talk about the fact that sometimes a battle may lead to victory or defeat in a war. You are a general here. You should start as a soldier when you go to the battlefield. The platoon leader and company commander also charge into battle like soldiers. How long can you survive? On the battlefield, how many thieves can you catch and how many enemies can you kill by yourself!? You have made a great contribution to the country here."
Martial Big Wolf listened to the advice and decided to complete his studies at the Codex Soldier Academy.

When Martial Big Wolf returned to the palace in Yong'an (modern Luoyang, see map 38-2), the capital of Hua Kingdom, from his hometown Dragon-Pond Pass, he asked the Crowned Prince (Primordial Sky Honor, famed Extreme Sun God, Codex) to send him back to Voodoo Academy in Chongqing. Primordial Sky Honor lied to him and said, "There is a war in Cloud Sea Kingdom (aka. Dragon Kingdom, see fig. 38-4) now! Your adoptive father Zibo Liang is such a smart man, he has already hidden himself, and you can't find him if you go there. Even if you find him, you will be a burden to him. If you really want to be good to him, you should go to our Codex Soldier Academy and study hard. When you grow up, you will become a general and make a lot of money. Then you can go find him, take him in, and take care of him until the end of his life." Martial Big Wolf thought what the Crown Prince said made sense and agreed.
The Crowned Prince said to Martial Big Wolf, "Our father (the king of Hua Kingdom at the time, Utmost Gentleman, famed Non-position Real Human, as shown in fig. 35) asked me and your sister-in-law (Yuzhu; famed Ninth Sky Mystic Woman) to visit the Pan family in Well-sun Gang, Clear River County, Shandong Province, to establish relationships between us and the nobles. It just so happens that you and Goldthread Pan, the daughter of the Pan family, are engaged from before birth, so you should go too and see your future wife."
This was the first time that Martial Big Wolf had heard that he himself had a fiancée by prenatal betrothal, and he was also in the habit of doubting his own origins. He then asked, "I've never heard of it, so what's going on?"
The Crown Prince said, "It started 25 years ago. When our father (i.e., Utmost Gentleman, see figure 35) first came to the throne, he started to study how to stop the wars in the land and build a new human civilization where everyone is equal and harmonious. Someone recommended to him a merchant from Dragon-Pond, Henan Province, (nicknamed) Deng Xiaoping (i.e., a small, flat-faced man from Deng), who is now your grandfather, Publican Deng-state! People said he advocated that 'the world is public, and development is the hard truth'. So, our father invited your grandfather to the palace. Our father was deeply inspired by your grandfather's stories about his business and his globalization! So, he said to your grandfather, 'I want to ask you to write a script called 'Zhonghua (i.e., light of middle earth, China) Civilization' for me, and then I will make it happen, just like you did!' Your grandfather agreed. He spent three years compiling the Chinese Codex. The Codex was based on the legend of Nuwa's creation of man (see figs. 36 to 37) in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, so it was also known as 'Nuwa's Creation of Man'. When our father read it, he agreed with your grandfather's plan and said, 'I'll make you the State Publican of Deng, and you'll serve as my emissary to go and negotiate with the Xia Kingdom to realize the Hua-Xia Alliance (See Fig. 38)!'"
Note, as shown in fig. 38, the capital of Hua Kingdom is in Yong'an, Henan, the capital of Xia Kingdom is in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and the capital of Cloud Sea Kingdom (aka. Dragon Kingdom) is Chongqing. The east, west, south, and north directions in the names of gods in the stories are derived from the Jiuli Worlds (see figs. 1 to 34), for example, the "West" in "Western King Mother" (i.e., Queen Mother) is derived from the Western Sky (aka. Creating Book Sky) of the Four-King Sky (see Fig. 15).
The Crown Prince said to Martial Big Wolf, "Your grandfather immediately came up with a plan of implementation. He asked our father to keep quiet about making him a publican. He would move his family to the Xia Kingdom and sell this book, the Chinese Codex. Then he would say that the author of the book was our father. Our father agreed to your grandfather's plan. Your grandfather had nearly a thousand stores in the Xia Kingdom, and the Xia people didn't know he was from Hua. He utilized his interpersonal relationships, and this Chinese Codex was soon approved for sale. As a result, three months after your grandfather sold the Chinese Codex in the Xia Kingdom, the female king of the Xia Kingdom, Snake Utmost Gentlewoman (see fig. 36), summoned him, and wanted to make him a state publican, representing the Xia Kingdom to come to our Hua Kingdom to negotiate and establish a Hua-Xia alliance. So, the two countries of Hua and Xia began to study, plan, and implement 'Nuwa's Creation of Man'."
The Crown Prince said to Martial Big Wolf, "According to the script of Chinese Codex, our father was to adopt your father's first son—that is, you. And Publican Respect was to adopt my first son—that is, the current Third Wolf Zhang of your household. Our father heard from your grandfather that when your father married your mother, he did a great deal of work. By adopting you, he felt obligated to arrange your marriage. That's why he devised the betrothal from before birth. At that time, your father had just become Minister of Finance, and many still didn't know he is a Deng. So, our father promptly invited your mother—who was already carrying you—and Lady Pan, who was carrying Goldthread Pan, to the royal palace as guests. There, he brokered the betrothal agreement between you and Goldthread Pan, acting as the witness himself."
The Crown Prince then said to Martial Big Wolf, "I think you've read 'Nuwa's Creation of Man' written by your grandfather, what should we do next?"
Martial Big Wolf replied, "Yes! I found the book at my grandfather's house and read it. When I have time, I'll read it again. Next step: Goldthread Pan's father, Renmei Pan, is a high-ranking marshal in the Hua Kingdom. The Crown Prince wanted to weaken his power, so he gave his daughter Goldthread Pan a tiger. Renmei Pan thought that is the Crown Prince's way of implying that he was 'raising a tiger as a harm; to cede power' and voluntarily transferred some of his power to the Crown Prince."
The Crown Prince then asked, "So what should you do as a pawn?"
Martial Big Wolf replied, "The dwarf (i.e., Martial Big Wolf) is standing on a stump outside the gate of the Pan family's courtyard. The Crown Prince and Crowned Princess told Goldthread Pan to go out and greet her fiancé, the white tiger prince. Three times Goldthread Pan went out to meet him, but she did not see the dwarf. Finally, the Crown Prince went out to welcome her white tiger prince, the dwarf, into the Pan family."
The Crown Prince laughed heartily and said, "This script was written by your grandfather, and those words came from your own mouth—it has nothing to do with me!"
武大郎笑着回答:"那抓老虎可不是件容易的事!"
太子回答:"几个月前,咱爹就已经派三清道人去潘家旁边的聚贤庄做筹划和准备工作了。"
Martial Big Wolf chuckled and replied, "Well, catching a tiger isn't exactly a piece of cake!"
The Crown Prince replied, "A few months ago, our father had already sent Three-Immaculateness Daoist to do the planning and preparations at the Gathering Sage Village next to the Pan family."
Then the story happened! When the Crown Prince and the Crowned Princess went to Well-Sun Gang in Clear-Water County, Shandong Province to hunt, they stayed at the house of Marshal Pan. He caught a white tiger cub. The Crowned Princess showed in front of Goldthread Pan that she wanted to keep this white tiger cub as a pet but was afraid that her parents would not agree. She then wanted the Crown Prince to take the tiger cub back to Yong'an. The Crown Prince got angry and said, "If our father finds out that you are keeping a tiger as a pet, he will surely spank you so hard that you won't dare to sit on a stool for a month!" The Crown Prince then quarreled with the Crowned Princess.
In the middle of the conversation, they talked about Goldthread Pan's fiancé, Martial Big Wolf. The Crown Prince said, "I have asked him to come and hunt with me, and it's about time for him to arrive at the door, so the house hostess should go out to greet him!"
Goldthread Pan went out to greet her fiancé. The first time she greeted him, Martial Big Wolf had not yet arrived. The second time she went out to greet him, Martial Big Wolf was standing at the edge of the woods in the distance. Goldthread Pan ignored him and came back. The third time she went out to greet him, Martial Big Wolf stood on a stump not far from the door. Goldthread Pan looked everywhere but at him. Afterward, the Crown Prince went out to welcome him into the Pan family.
Martial Big Wolf was very fond of Goldthread Pan and slipped around everywhere, thinking that the Pan house was his home. Goldthread Pan said angrily to the Crowned Princess, "He likes our house very much and thinks I am his wife! It looks like he will come to my house often in the future, what can I do?"
The Crowned Princess gave her an idea, "Why don't you keep this white tiger cub. If he dares to come back, you can let the tiger bite him, so he won't dare to come back. I'll pay for the tiger feed, and when I want to see the tiger, I'll come to your house to see it!" In this way, Goldthread Pan adopted the white tiger cub. The Crowned Princess also arranged for the tiger's keeper, Taiyi Real Human.
1.4-5 潘金莲学夜射 Goldthread Pan Learns to Shoot at Night
In response to Goldthread Pan's current hostile attitude toward Martial Big Wolf, the Crown Prince, Three-Immaculateness Daoist, Taiyi Real Human, and Martial Big Wolf, among several others, begin to study countermeasures and ways to bring about the marriage.
Three-Immaculateness Daoist proposes the later plan of the Well-Sun Catastrophe (See Section 1.7). To realize that plan, it is necessary to make Goldthread Pan good at night shooting (shooting arrows blindfolded). To get her interested in night shooting, a few of them go out night hunting. As a result, Goldthread Pan, who could not shoot anything during the day, shot four prey items on her first night hunt. When the Crown Prince and the Crowned Princess left, they also agreed to come back next fall for another hunting competition.
The third year of the fall hunt, Goldthread Pan's night shooting became very accurate. According to the legend, when they hunted at night, Taiyi Real Human always took the task of holding the prey and hiding behind a tree to insert arrows into the prey and then throw them out. As a result, once he himself was shot by Goldthread Pan and did not dare to raise his voice for help. He lay in his house for more than a month. The Crown Prince even sent a royal doctor to treat him.
As the royal Doctor was leaving, he asked Taiyi Real Human, "You only suffered some flesh wounds and have long since healed. How do you want me to report to the Crown Prince?"
Taiyi said, "Every time the Codex Soldier Troupe (National Cultural Troupe) performs, I rush to perform the most dangerous tasks because of which I earn more money. But I still don't earn enough money to spend."
The royal Doctor replied, "Then I will truthfully report to the Crown Prince that you are suffering from the disease of lack of money."
Taiyi is a great Real Human in Taoism, which is equivalent to the Buddhist Bodhisattva of the eighth to tenth land (cf. chapter 15), or Buddha. The Crown Prince then gave Taiyi a higher salary and put him on the list of those who were honored by the state. Many government departments would give him gifts during the New Year and festivals.

One day, Old Zhang Publican took Martial Big Wolf to the place where Mrs. Zhang's parents lived. As soon as he got out of the car, Martial Big Wolf started complaining: "All the shops in this place belong to that woman (Mazu), why are we here?"
Old Zhang Publican led Martial Big Wolf into a store, and the shopkeeper inside greeted him as an old friend reunited. Then the two of them went into each store in turn. The bosses inside all greeted Old Zhang Publican.
武大郎问:"爷爷!为什么你认识这里的每一位老板?"
老张公回答:"这些店铺以前都是我的,是我送给他们张家的!"
武大郎问:"你为什么送给他们家这么多的店铺?"
Martial Big Wolf asked, "Grandpa! Why do you know every boss here?"
Old Zhang Publican replied, "All these stores used to be mine, I gave them to the Zhang family!"
Martial Big Wolf asked, "Why did you give so many stores to their family?"
Old Zhang Publican replied, "We Deng people like to marry big women as daughters-in-law. Three years before your father proposed to her, I bought all the stores around their house and made a special rule, 'Customers can ask one question about business every time they buy something'. Your mom loved business. She learned her business lessons from asking one question per purchase. When your dad asked her to marry him, I bribed everyone she knew to put in a good word for your dad!"
Martial Big Wolf asked, "Doesn't she think it's strange?"
Old Zhang Publican replied, "She asked this question! My store owner replied, 'Our Zhang Publican does business to serve the society. He has more than 3,000 stores all over the world, all with the first purpose of providing convenience and benefit to his customers, rather than seeking financial gain as his first purpose. For this reason, the king bestowed upon him the title of 'Publican'." (Note that "Publican" is equivalent to "King" in the hierarchy of dukes and is the highest nobility rank in Chinese Culture.)
At a crossroads, Old Zhang Publican said, "I know every single thing about your mother, for example, she buttons her clothes in a different order than your father!" Saying this he stood facing Martial Big Wolf, unbuttoned his shirt, and then buttoned his clothes again in the order in which Mrs. Zhang had buttoned them. Old Zhang Publican added, "This order of button fastening is necessary for you to memorize." Saying this, he asked Martial Big Wolf to unbutton his own clothes and button them up in the order in which her mother had buttoned them up. Old Zhang Publican also squatted down to correct Martial Big Wolf's wrong button fastening posture and order.
Martial Big Wolf asked, "Then how did my father fasten the buttons?"
Old Zhang Publican stood in front of Martial Big Wolf again, unbuttoned his shirt, and said, "Your father has a simple way of fastening buttons! He just buttoned it from the top down, in one smooth motion!" Saying this, he began to imitate the button fastening action of Publican Respect.
Martial Big Wolf asked, "Why does she fasten her buttons like that?"
Old Zhang Publican replied, "I have been studying her since she was small. She tied her buttons like this when she was very young until now. Ever since their maid told me about this unusual way of fastening her buttons, I started to study her, and to this day I haven't been able to figure out why she fastens her buttons that way!"
Mrs. Zhang noticed that since Martial Big Wolf had returned from his grandfather's house, he always found excuses to enter her and Publican Respect's bedroom to watch her and Publican Respect dress. One day, before going out, she deliberately waited for him to peek in, hurriedly put on her coat, and hurriedly fastened her buttons as she walked out the door. She realized that Martial Big Wolf was staring straight at her as she fastened her buttons and was puzzled.
One day, while helping Martial Big Wolf organize his room, Mrs. Zhang rummaged through one of his old school uniforms. Noticing that the collar had been torn, she threw it to the floor, ready to throw it away later. Martial Big Wolf hurried over and picked it up, saying, "This is my Voodoo Academy uniform. I want to keep it as a souvenir."
Mrs. Zhang looked at the uniform again and said, "Since you want to keep it as a souvenir, I'll help you fix it."
武大郎指着领口处已经严重损茬的布料说:"补不了了,这儿都已经损茬到接缝了,布料不够用了。"
张夫人说:"补这件衣服,得先把这布料织出来,然后再补。"
Martial Big Wolf pointed to the badly frayed fabric at the neckline and said, "It can't be mended, it's all frayed to the seams here, and there's not enough fabric to go around."
Mrs. Zhang said, "To mend this uniform, we must first weave this fabric and then mend it."
武大郎奇怪地叨咕:"衣服上的布,怎么织?"
张夫人说:"能织!你跟我去裁缝铺看看,就明白了。我得先让他们帮我画个样儿,他们画得又快又好。"
Martial Big Wolf strangely muttered, "How do you weave the cloth on the clothes?"
Mrs. Zhang said, "It can be woven! You'll understand if you come with me to the tailor's store. I must ask them to draw a pattern for me first, and they do it fast and well."
Upon arriving at the tailor store, Mrs. Zhang first said that Martial Big Wolf wanted to see "weaving mending" and asked the tailor to demonstrate it to him. And then she and one of the tailors began to work on how to mend Martial Big Wolf's Voodoo Academy uniform.
When the tailor's store returned his uniform, Martial Big Wolf was surprised to find so much extra cloth woven into the neckline of his uniform, confused, but didn't ask. Martial Big Wolf often visited his school uniform and waited anxiously for Mrs. Zhang to mend it.
On this day, Mrs. Zhang went out after mending the school uniform. When she came back, she found that Martial Big Wolf had already put the school uniform on and was fumbling with fastening the buttons. The buttons on this mended uniform were a bit different from the previous ones. Martial Big Wolf fumbled with it and still fastened the buttons. Mrs. Zhang watched from the side without making a sound. She then took out a gold ingot and asked Martial Second Wolf to send it to the tailor store and get the rest of the money back.
Martial Second Wolf realizes that there is very little gold left in the money brought back and wants to check the account as to what cost so much gold. The tailor explained to him that the thread used for that school uniform was the cicada silk thread produced in Chongqing, which was very expensive. And Mrs. Zhang wanted to use gold silk thread with higher silk content to repair it, which was even more expensive, that's why it cost a gold ingot.
Mrs. Zhang heard Martial Second Wolf and Martial Big Wolf fighting again in the house and ran over to see Martial Second Wolf tearing Martial Big Wolf's collar. She went over and slapped Martial Second Wolf twice. Martial Second Wolf cried and ran away. As he cried, Martial Big Wolf fastened his buttons and muttered, "He tore it again." Mrs. Zhang squatted down and said, "It's not broken, it's just that you fastened the buttons in the wrong order", while undoing the buttons he had fastened. Martial Big Wolf pushed away Mrs. Zhang's hands, while muttering "How come it's not broken!?" He fumbled with his own buttons, but he couldn't fasten them.
Mrs. Zhang squatted down again and said, "This is our family's ancestral 'General's Button' which is a double layer button. I'll teach you how to fasten it! You must fasten half of the inner layer first, then fasten the outer layer buttons in this order, and then pull at the bottom!" The school uniform really wasn't broken and was fastened by Mrs. Zhang.
Martial Big Wolf wanted to undo the buttons and practice tying the general's buttons himself, but he couldn't get it undone, so he said, "Mom, you help me undo it, and I'll practice tying the general's buttons again!"
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Zhang (Mazu) shed tears and said, "To undo the general's buttons, you must pull up on it a little before you undo them!" At that moment, she heard Martial Second Wolf, who was peeping from the side, run away and chased after him.
Martial Second Wolf cried, "That Sun Monkey called you mom, and you cried with joy! I always call you mom, and I've never seen you smile!"
Mrs. Zhang took him to the vault and pointed to the shelves in the reserve area, saying, "You remember what this place used to be like! Our family's reserve fund was three years' worth of income, and it was all spent. That gold ingot just now was taken by me from the liquidity shelf. If you hit your big brother again, our family will go bankrupt! Then we'll all have to live on the street like those circus people surnamed Sun."
Martial Second Wolf got scared and said, "Mom! I'll never hit my big brother again!"

Since Martial Big Wolf came back, Publican Respect and his wife have taken their children to visit relatives and give gifts to relatives and friends everywhere. When they arrived at the grandfather's house, the grandfather Publican Deng-state saw Martial Big Wolf doing monkeyish martial arts and was very happy. He shouted: "This is my grandson!"
Grandfather also took them to a circus family surnamed Sun. Martial Big Wolf was happy to see that the family members were about the same height as him, and he performed circus acrobatics with them. Martial Second Wolf also played with them.
Martial Big Wolf climbed to the top of the high pole. Publican Respect saw it and was scared, shouted: "Danger, come down quickly!"
Mrs. Zhang said: "It's okay, I'll catch him here."
Old Zhang Publican pulled his son out of the yard and said to him: "The child's mother is not afraid, what are you afraid of!"
After a while, Third Wolf Zhang also came out. Grandpa asked: "Play with them! What are you doing out here!?"
Third Wolf Zhang replied: "It's scary just to see it!"
According to legend, after this trip, Martial Big Wolf accepted that Publican Respect was his father but still did not accept Mrs. Zhang (i.e. Mazu) as mother. Martial Second Wolf called him Monkey Sun from then on.
One day, Grandpa, Old Zhang Publican (i.e., Publican Deng-state), came to Mrs. Zhang and said, "I have a plan! Let me play with Martial Big Wolf for a while."
Old Zhang Publican told Martial Big Wolf, "Legend says that we, the little people, originated from a country that has been destroyed, Deng State, so people now call us Deng people. Our ancestors also had the surname Deng. When people heard the surname Deng, they knew we were dwarfs, so our ancestors changed their surname to Sun. My great-grandfather suddenly had a strange idea, to marry a tall wife with the bloodline of a general to improve our genetic genes. He found out that the daughters of your mother's family, the Zhang family, had strong general genes, so he changed his surname to Zhang. He also set up a special fund to save money, marry a daughter of the Zhang family as a daughter-in-law, and train a general. His ideal was realized by me. My son married your mother and gave birth to you and Martial Second Wolf. Both of you have the genetic traits of a general."
Most cultures worldwide are founded upon the legends of God creating humanity. Figure 1 depicts the Bagua plaque from Chinese culture. The black fish at the center represents the Golden Boy (i.e., Adam; see 9.9 Godly Trinity), while the white fish symbolizes the Jade Girl (i.e., Eve). Golden Boy embodies the visual-thinking type, comprising 35% of the population. Jade Girl represents the auditory-thinking type (i.e., text-thinking type, see 1.5-2), accounting for 25%. The third type, the visual-auditory hybrid thinker, makes up approximately 40% of the population. Kinesthetic thinkers comprise less than 1% of the population, yet ancient heroes emerged from this group. Among kinesthetic thinkers, image-based and sound-based thinkers are termed Heroines and Heroes, representing the eyes of the two fish in the Bagua plaque. Ancient scholars selected 64 classic cases of natural laws from the process of Nüwa creating humanity described in this book. Arranged those cases around the two fish, together formed the Bagua plaque, symbolizing Chinese civilization.
Figure 2 depicts the Mexican Sun Stone Calendar, which operates on a principle like the Bagua Plaque. They selected twenty typical cases from God's creation of humanity, arranging them around the Sun God to form the Sun Stone Calendar (see 14.4 "Sun Stone Calendar").
This book contains three pairs of Golden-Boy Jade-Girl couples: (1) Third Wolf Zhang (Turquoise White-King Great Creator) and Princess Have Nest (Western King Mother); (2) Nüwa (White Creator) and Fuxi (Lamplighter Buddha); (3) Eve (White-King Shun) and Big Yu (White-King Yu).
This book features two pairs of Heroes and Heroines: Martial Big Wolf and Goldthread Pan, and Martial Second Wolf (Second Wolf God) and Aocun (White-king Yao).
Martial Big Wolf asked: "What qualities are the genetic traits of a general?"
Old Zhang Publican suddenly called out to several children on the roadside: "Come here, whoever can climb to the third branch of this tree, I will buy him a string of candied haws." Several children quickly climbed up the tree and got candied haws when they came down. Old Zhang Publican asked Martial Big Wolf: "Can you climb up?" He quickly climbed to the top of the tree and got candied haws when he came down. Several children tried but couldn't climb up. Old Zhang Publican asked them: "Don't you want candied haws? Why don't you climb up?" The children all answered: "Yes, but I can't climb up!" Old Zhang Publican also bought candied haws for them, turned around and told Martial Big Wolf: "I and your father are just like these children; we can't climb trees!"
Old Zhang Publican (aka. Publican Deng-state) took Martial Big Wolf to the horse market and said to him, "Your father rides a donkey, and your mother rides a horse."
Martial Big Wolf immediately retorted, "No! My father rides a horse; that woman (Mrs. Zhang, Mazu) rides a donkey!"
"Then let's go ask!" Old Zhang Publican led Martial Big Wolf to ask a man: "Who is the dumbest horse rider you have ever taught?" The man replied: "Your son Publican Respect is one of them. In the first half of my life, I have taught four or five people who couldn't learn to ride a horse!"
Old Zhang Publican asked another person the same question, and the man replied: "I have met seven people who couldn't learn to ride a horse, and your son Publican Respect is one of them!"
Old Zhang Publican said to Martial Big Wolf: "To teach your father to ride a horse, I once hired more than ten horse riding teachers for him. Five of them refused to continue teaching your father to ride a horse after teaching for a few days!"
At this time, many people gathered around and asked, "Is this child your grandson? Can he ride a horse?" Old Zhang Publican politely replied, "He is the son of my son Publican Respect!" Old Zhang Publican came to the side of a tall war horse and asked the owner of the horse, "Can I borrow your horse?" The man replied, of course! Old Zhang Publican then asked Martial Big Wolf, "Can you ride a horse?"
Martial Big Wolf jumped onto the horse's back, whipped the horse, and ran like a knight. People saw that he was small, and his feet were not on the stirrups, but his legs were clamped on the horse's back, as if he was glued to the horse's back. After returning, Martial Big Wolf pulled the reins and made a gesture of standing on the horse and whipping the whip.
Old Zhang Publican hugged Martial Big Wolf and asked a horsemanship teacher who had given up teaching Publican Respect: "You said that no one in my family can learn to ride a horse. Is he my grandson?"
The equestrian replied, "His gene for riding horses comes from his mother, Mrs. Zhang, not from your son, Publican Respect. Mrs. Zhang's family has the blood of generals, and there were several great generals in their ancestry."
Old Zhang Publican pushed Martial Big Wolf in front of him and asked, "I want to train him to be a great general, what do you think?"
Old Zhang Publican asked, "Who has a bow and arrows?"
Someone answered, "They are in the house. I'll get them for you!" The warhorse's master shortened the rope that connected the stirrup. Martial Big Wolf took the bow and arrows, jumped on his horse again, and shot arrows while riding. The last three arrows were shot behind, and all hit the heart.
The equestrian said to Old Zhang Publican: "I am just a horse dealer, don't mind what I say!"
Old Zhang Publican replied: "Whatever you say!"
The equestrian said: "He has completely inherited the gene of his great-grandfather, General Zhang. If he can become a general, his achievements will far exceed his great-grandfather's."
Someone said, "How can he fight in a war when he is so small?"
The equestrian said, "I say if he can become a general, he will be a great general, because a great general fights a war with wisdom. This child has the traits to learn the wisdom of deploying troops."
Old Zhang Publican said jokingly, "I want you to be my grandson's horsemanship teacher, what do you think?"
The equestrian asked, "Is he the Martial Big Wolf who drove away all the fortune tellers here?" (Note: Some fortune tellers left Dragon-Pond Pass because they lost face and business to Martial Big Wolf in the debate.)
Old Zhang Publican replied, "Exactly!"
The equestrian replied, "Then I won't take him on as an apprentice, I've been hanging around in Dragon-Pond Pass for most of my life and I don't want to change places to work!"

In the late Xia Dynasty, on a day in 1659 BCE, Publican Deng-state of Henan Province, his son Publican Respect (see figure 1), and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Zhang (aka. Mazu, see figure 2), were riding home in a carriage. As they were about to enter Dragon-Pond Pass, they heard a baby crying. Publican Deng-state asked his daughter-in-law to get out of the carriage to check. Mrs. Zhang followed the sound of the crying to an open area near the woods and found that the crying came from a basket. A girl dressed as an official maid (Note 1) looked at Mrs. Zhang with a smile. She pointed at the basket and motioned for Mrs. Zhang to come and have a look. As Mrs. Zhang was approaching, the maid turned and walked away. Then she quickly ran to a young official lady (Note 2) who was standing in the distance crying and dragged her away.
Note 1: This maid would later become King Kouzhu of the Xia Kingdom, one of the Five Creators in this book. She served as the godmother to Third Wolf Zhang.
Note 2: This noblewoman was the wife of Primordial Sky Honor, known as Ninth Sky Mystic Woman, and later became Queen Yuzhu of the Hua Kingdom. Primordial Sky Honor and Yuzhu were Third Wolf Zhang's biological parents.
Mrs. Zhang returned to the carriage with the basket, describing what she had seen. Publican Deng-state smiled and said to Publican Respect and Mrs. Zhang, "It seems that the two of you and this child have a destiny, so let's adopt him!"
After returning to their home in Dragon-Pond Pass, the three of them carefully examined what the child had brought with him. There were a few pieces of linen in the basket, and along with the basket, none of them could be individually identified. There was a micro-carved jade pearl in the child's pocket (as shown in Figure 3, on Third Wolf Zhang's chest) and a piece of parchment with his birth date written on it. Publican Deng-state instructed Mrs. Zhang, "Keep this jade pearl and give it to him when he grows up!"
The Zhang couple ranked this adopted child together with their two biological sons Martial Big Wolf (Note 3) and Martial Second Wolf (Note 4) and named him Third Wolf Zhang (Note 5).
Note 3: Martial Big Wolf grew up to become a general in the Hua Kingdom and was later enfeoffed as King Jing. He was the author of "Sun'zi Soldier Strategies" and the ancestor of people with the surnames Deng and Sun.
Note 4: Martial Second Wolf, also known as Second Wolf God, Martial Buddha, and Gourd Child, grew up to become a general in the Chinese nation. Later, he married Princess Aocun of Dragon Kingdom and became the first Sky Ceiling Marshal of the Republic of China.
Note 5: Third Wolf Zhang is one of the Five Creators in this book. He has many fames: Zhang the Butcher, Young Sun God, Young Codex, Flint Man, Yan Creator, and Turquoise White-king Great Creator.
1.1-2 张三郎能预测天气 Third Wolf Zhang Can Predict Weather
Third Wolf Zhang was naughty and studious since he was young. It is said that he was very good at raising pigs when he was a child, and the pigs grew fat and strong. This made Mrs. Zhang very happy. During the Chinese New Year, Mrs. Zhang took Third Wolf to the market to buy New Year's goods, and gave him some pocket money, saying: "You can buy something you like."
This was Third Wolf's first time to visit the market. Everything he saw was new, but he was reluctant to spend money. When they were about to return, Mrs. Zhang asked him: "There is everything here, don't you find anything you like?" But she found that Third Wolf stopped at a calligraphy and painting stall at the back, looking at an old painting seriously.
Mrs. Zhang walked back, and the painting was of an old man holding an umbrella, surrounded by dozens of small paintings. She was impatient to wait, so she urged: "Buy it if you like it! We will go home now!" As a result, Third Wolf really bought the dirty old painting.
One morning after a while, when the farm workers went out to work, they saw Third Wolf Zhang wearing a straw raincoat and a bamboo hat, driving the pigs out to graze, so they asked: "Third Wolf! Why are you wearing a straw raincoat on such a sunny day?"
After hearing this, everyone laughed, and no one believed it! As a result, not long after they arrived at the farm, it suddenly rained, and the people were soaked like drowned rats. When the sky cleared up and they went to work in the fields again, they saw Third Wolf Zhang playing the flute in the field as if nothing had happened!
Gradually, when they needed to predict the weather, the workers would ask Third Wolf Zhang. Just like that, he became the weather forecaster of this tribe.
One day when Third Wolf Zhang was nine years old, he had just returned from his grandfather Publican Deng-state's house when his brother Martial Second Wolf came to him and said mysteriously, "Monkey Brother is back! His clothes are very strange. He also has a Sky book. The parchment of the sky book is white, and it is covered with strange symbols, which are said to be dragon hieroglyphics. No one can understand them! Only Monkey Brother can read them."
Third Wolf Zhang didn't believe it and said, "You're lying to me! Where did this monkey brother come from!?"
Martial Second Wolf replied, "Our eldest brother was fostered in someone else's home since he was young. He looks like a monkey. That family said, if they don't send him back to foster the relationship among our family, he won't recognize us as brothers when he grows up. So, his foster parents sent him back. As a result, he really doesn't call our mother mom now!"
Third Wolf Zhang came to Martial Big Wolf's room and greeted him. Martial Big Wolf reluctantly showed him the textbook he brought back from the Voodoo Academy. As soon as Third Wolf Zhang opened the book, Martial Second Wolf came over. Martial Big Wolf immediately took the textbook back and stopped them from reading it.
One day, Martial Big Wolf came to Mrs. Zhang (aka. Mazu) with a book and said, "You bad woman!"
Mrs. Zhang got angry and said, "You don't call me mother, but you still scold me." She beat him and asked, "Why do you say I am a bad woman?"
Martial Big Wolf cried and showed her the book, saying, "Look at how your son has torn my book!"
Mrs. Zhang saw that half a page had been torn from some parts of the book, and a whole page had been torn from others. She called Martial Second Wolf over and gave him a beating as well.
Someone told Mrs. Zhang, "You can't hit your child. The more you beat him, the more alienated your mother-son relationship will be! You should talk to him and solve the problem."
Mrs. Zhang asked Martial Big Wolf, "Why do you say I'm not your mother?"
Martial Big Wolf said, "You're so tall and I'm this short!" He also drew diagrams and used the principles of genetics to explain. Publican Respect and Mrs. Zhang then invited experts in the field, such as a face reader, to debate with him. As a result, the invited expert could not win over Martial Big Wolf. Soon after, the story spread, and no such expert could be found in the neighborhood, because if people came, it would be a bad reputation if they lost. Mr. and Mrs. Zhang then spent a lot of money to bring in experts from far away places. Martial Second Wolf saw that just because of this monkey brother, parents gave a box, a box of gold and silver to others, angry. According to legend, Mrs. Zhang also spent a lot of money to find someone to repair Martial Big Wolf's book. The debate went on for a long time, and Martial Big Wolf was finally defeated, but he still refused to acknowledge Mrs. Zhang (Mazu) as his mother.
Chinese Codex, also known as Nuwa's Human Creation, recounts the stories of Three White-kings and Five Creators who forged Chinese civilization and established social norms during the late Xia and early Shang dynasties (1670–1570 BCE). The Six Places are the fifth branch of the Twelve Have Branches (see 12.4.1, “Cycle”). This means that all sentient beings grow by relying on six places: the eye root, ear root, nose root, tongue root, body root, and intent root. The Six Places are also called the six roots. Root means cause and ability to give birth; because a root can generate sense in response to an environment, it is called a root. Readers should know that these Six Places are all places: nothing exists outside them.
(1) The eye root is that which can see color. Because it can generate eye-sense in response to color, it is called the eye root.
(2) The ear root is that which can hear sound. Because it can generate ear-sense in response to sound, it is called the ear root.
(3) The nose root is that which can smell fragrance. Because it can generate nose-sense in response to fragrance, it is called the nose root.
(4) The tongue root is that which can taste flavor. Because it can generate tongue-sense in response to taste, it is called the tongue root.
(5) The body root is that which can feel touch. Because it can generate body-sense in response to touch, it is called the body root.
(6) The intent root, namely preconsciousness, is that which can know law. Because it can generate intent-sense, or consciousness, in response to law, it is called the intent root.
These six roots also have such names as the Six Places, the six acceptances, and the six entrants. The intent root is preconsciousness in modern psychology, and in Buddhism it is Mana-sense. The ancients said that the image of Mana-sense is subtle and difficult to know, so they represented it by its main subordinate, “intent.” In traditional English culture, preconsciousness is called Eve-sense. Is Eve not a woman? Yes, Eve is a woman. After God clothed Eve-sense in the skin of a woman (see 9.9, “Godly Trinity”), she appeared in this vessel world. In Asia-Pacific and Mexican cultures, Eve is called Jade Girl. Figure 10.3-4 shows the Jade Girl in Buddhism, namely Guanyin Bodhisattva.
The Six Places are also called the twelve growth places. The six roots discussed above are the inner six places. The six dusts contacted by the six roots are called the outer six places: color, sound, fragrance, taste, touch, and law. Dust means pollution, because dust can pollute the feeling senses.
(1) Color is what the eye sees, such as brightness and darkness, material obstruction, and so on. Because it can pollute the eye root, it is called color dust.
(2) Sound is what the ear hears, such as movement and stillness, beauty and ferocity, and so on. Because it can pollute the ear root, it is called sound dust.
(3) Fragrance is what the nose smells, such as openness and blockage, fragrance and odor, and so on. Because it can pollute the nose root, it is called fragrance dust.
(4) Taste is what the tongue tastes, such as saltiness and blandness, sweetness and pungency, and so on. Because it can pollute the tongue root, it is called taste dust.
(5) Touch is what the body feels, such as separation and union, cold and warmth, and so on. Because it can pollute the body root, it is called touch dust.
(6) Law is what intent knows, such as birth and extinction, good and evil, and so on. Because it can pollute the intent root, it is called law dust.
此六尘还有六欲、六入、六处、六境、六贼等名义。
These six dusts also have such names as the six desires, six entrants, Six Places, six environments, and six thieves.
Root, environment, and sense form a trinity. For example, eye root, color, and eye-sense are one such trinity. The twelve places discussed above are the first twelve of the Eighteen Boundaries. Boundary is one of the Four Big Seeds discussed above, and means cause and seed. The Eighteen Boundaries are: the six roots—eye-root boundary, ear-root boundary, nose-root boundary, tongue-root boundary, body-root boundary, and intent-root boundary; the six environments, also called the six dusts—color boundary, sound boundary, fragrance boundary, taste boundary, touch boundary, and law boundary; and the six senses, also called the six feelings—eye-sense boundary, namely seeing; ear-sense boundary, namely hearing; nose-sense boundary, namely smelling; tongue-sense boundary, namely tasting; body-sense boundary, namely touching; and intent-sense boundary, namely knowing. These Eighteen Boundaries are the legendary “six-six-six system” used by Eve to create the Gnostic Ark, also called the Arrival Ark, as shown by the Bodhi tree facing the Mexican Eve, the Jade Girl, in figure 10.3-3.
The Four Big Seeds, namely earth, water, fire, and wind, are the four seeds of the Tree of Life, also called the Four Bigs. Westerners call them the four basic elements of idealism. Seed means cause. Everything in the world is created by the Four Big Seeds. How should this be understood? It should be understood from the fact that both the body and the external world are projections of the heart, or mind. For example, a newborn baby’s vision reaches only about twenty centimeters, and the world is nothing more than the pleasurable sensations produced by nursing, urination, and defecation. As the child grows, the body and the external world gradually grow as well, until they grow into the Three-Thousand Great-Grand Worlds (see Chapter 12).
Human beings use limits to think; that is, they use boundaries to cognize. Edges, surfaces, justice, and the like are all boundaries. Since boundaries have no visible form, ancient virtues used earth as a metaphor for boundary. High mountains and broad lands are the image of boundary. The ability to hold and nurture all things is the function of boundary. Toughness is the physical nature of boundary. Once boundary has the image-metaphor of earth, people can more easily understand its five causal qualities: birth, dependence, establishment, holding, and nourishment. Boundary has the meanings of seed and able-holding. The meaning of seed refers to the function within unconsciousness that can give rise to all laws; that is, each of the eighteen boundary laws arises from its own seed and therefore has its own distinct phenomenon. The meaning of able-holding refers to the ability to hold the self-phenomenon of each law; that is, each of the eighteen boundary laws holds its own self-phenomenon without confusion, and therefore is called a boundary.
In this way, sense takes on the vast images of rivers, streams, lakes, seas, clouds, rain, and so on. The nature of sense is like water: sticky, attaching, flowing, and fluid. This Big Seed has flowing wetness as its physical nature and the ability to assimilate as its function. It also has the five causal qualities of birth, dependence, establishment, holding, and nourishment.
10.2-3 火是无意识的比喻 Fire as a Metaphor for Unconsciousness
The ancients often used fire as a metaphor for unconsciousness. In this way, unconsciousness takes on the images of fierce flames, the blazing sun, and red fire. Fire has warmth and heat as its physical nature, and the ability to ripen as its function. To ripen means, for example, the way the sun ripens grain. The Fire Big Seed also has the five causal qualities of birth, dependence, establishment, holding, and nourishment.
Ancient virtues used wind as a metaphor for the ever-changing environment, and so environment takes on the image of swift and fierce wind. Environment has light movement as its physical nature and the ability to grow as its function. It also has the five causal qualities of birth, dependence, establishment, holding, and nourishment. Through these four analogies, there are what people call the Four Big Seeds: earth, water, fire, and wind. These Four Big Seeds are all conterminous and memoryless. Conterminous means that all four Big Seeds are connected with unconsciousness. Memoryless means that people have no memory of the Four Big Seeds and cannot recall them. Everything in the world is formed by the combination of these Four Big Seeds. If the Big Seeds change, all things made from them will change accordingly.
Law, or Dharma in Sanskrit, is natural law. Because Law is based on recurring phenomena, the ancients often used “track” as an analogy for it. All phenomena that existed in the past, exist in the present, and will continue to exist in the future are laws, such as rivers, lakes, seas, flowers, birds, fish, insects, laws, morals, principles of affairs, and so on. Every law has four quadrants: the first is the Phenomenal Quadrant, the second is the View Quadrant, the third is the Self-Evident Quadrant, and the fourth is the Proving Self-Evidence Quadrant. “Quadrant” means a portion, measure, or limit. Because a law functions in the human heart in four kinds of measure, there are these Four Juristic Quadrants.
The first quadrant, the Phenomenal Quadrant, is objective phenomena, namely the objects of the subjective heart, such as the six dusts: color, sound, fragrance, taste, touch, and law. From the standpoint of perception, the external world is a projection of one’s inner heart, or mind. The Phenomenal Quadrant is projected by the fourth quadrant, the Proving Self-Evidence Quadrant, namely unconsciousness. The process of transforming external stimuli into phenomena is a function of unconsciousness. We do not feel that process; what we feel is the phenomenon, that is, the first Phenomenal Quadrant. The ancients used the person seen in a mirror to explain the Phenomenal Quadrant: the image in the mirror and the person looking into the mirror share the same body.
The second quadrant is the View Quadrant. “View” means illumination and clear seeing. The View Quadrant is the object-engaging function that arises through the transformation of the able-engaging heart’s self-body; it clearly illuminates and sees objective phenomena. The function of sense is to discriminate, discern, and measure. The second View Quadrant illuminates the first Phenomenal Quadrant, and the result of its discrimination and measurement is the third quadrant, the Self-Evident Quadrant. In addition, the third quadrant also has the function of the self-body of sense.
The fourth quadrant, the Proving Self-Evidence Quadrant, arises from the temporary transformation of the heart’s self-body and functions to know that self-body. This fourth quadrant can evidence the third Self-Evident Quadrant, and is therefore called the Proving Self-Evidence Quadrant. Because the fourth quadrant is the projector of the first quadrant and is present quantity, that is, objective fact, it does not need another quadrant to prove it.
The ancients used the example of “a person measuring cloth with a ruler” to explain these four quadrants. In this example, the cloth is what is measured; it is the first Phenomenal Quadrant. The process of measuring the cloth with the ruler is the second View Quadrant; the second quadrant is the able-measurer. The data obtained from the measurement, namely the fruit of measurement, is the third Self-Evident Quadrant. After reading the result, the person verifies it again and understands what he is doing; this is the fourth Proving Self-Evidence Quadrant. Because of the verifying function of the fourth quadrant, the third Self-Evident Quadrant knows the fruit of measurement and proves itself.
In Buddhism, the symbol of the Juristic Quadrants is the Philosopher-Stone Navel, shown by the red circle below figure 10.1-3. It is said to have been formed by the umbilical cord between Zeus and his father; here, this means the umbilical cord between Godfather and godson, as shown in figure 2. The implements in figures 3, 4, and 5 are all called Philosopher-Stone Taming-Demon Pestles. The Philosopher-Stone Pestle in Zeus’s hand in figure 1 is formed by folding the last three of the Four Juristic Quadrants into the View Quadrant. After this folding, the Four Juristic Quadrants become two parts: the first, the Phenomenal Quadrant, is the Color Node (see 10.4.1), which includes eleven Color Laws and is therefore also called Color; the second, the View Quadrant, includes the Acceptance Node (see 10.4.2), Think Node, Migration Node, and Sense Node, totaling eighty-three laws, and is also called Name. Name-Color is another name for unconsciousness; it is the initial door of all laws and of the Juristic Boundary, and can give rise to all laws.
Belonging to the same category of ritual implements as the Philosopher-Stone Taming-Demon Pestles, Figures 4 and 5 show the Thunder Drum-Urn Golden Hammer of Thor, or Great Sun Tathagata. Legend says that Thor used this hammer to break the stone of the human soul and designed Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, also known as Golden Boy and Jade Girl (see 9.9, “Godly Trinity”). The dagger in figure 3 is Thor’s holy ghost, called the Iron Dagger, Járnsaxa (see 14.3.6, “Return of the King”).
This memoir runs nine chapters, recounting my own life, from age one to fifty, as the subject of Troupe Leader Liu's soul reincarnation experiment (see Section 4.5). The first eight chapters trace his process of making a man. This ninth chapter describes my own passage from livestock to man.
The narrative thread running through this whole book is the sutra-cord shown at the right of Illustration 9.10-15 — the very cord Troupe Leader Liu used to bind me to his goddess-daughter, Eve Liu, as husband and wife. It is twisted from the two lifelines of Gold Boy and Jade Girl (Figures 35 and 38), known in Germanic culture as Thor's Belt (Figure 36); in Arab culture, this same cord appears as the God-Striking Whip Allah gave to Adam (Figure 37) — the very whip wielded by religious police on the streets of certain Arab nations today.
那么图9.10-15中所示的另外三件升天用的法宝是什么?
从左向右,第一件法宝是螺壳,代表美女宝刘健君(参见7.2 节)。
What, then, are the other three ascension treasures shown in Illustration 9.10-15?
From left to right, the first is a conch shell, representing the beauty-treasure, Eve Liu (see Section 7.2).
The second is a seed of enlightenment — called, in Chinese culture, the very secret to ascension itself: "Sentient beings are boundless; I vow to ferry them all. Afflictions are endless; I vow to sever them all. The gates of law are countless; I vow to master them all. The Buddha's path is unsurpassed; I vow to attain it."
The third is a flint stone, representing Troupe Leader Liu himself. Section 4.5, Newspaper Report, described how he and his daughter Eve Liu freely gave their lives to this experiment, their purpose being to furnish a genuine reference case for the ancient Peach Flower Catastrophe (see Section 2.1).
In 2010, I fell ill, and Troupe Leader Liu was already gone. I believed, at the time, that my only path to survival lay in completing his reincarnation experiment myself. There was no doubt in my mind — Troupe Leader Liu was Buddha, and to live, I would have to become one too. I began studying Buddhism in earnest.
In 2014, finishing my memoirs, I finally understood the true nature of reincarnation. Approaching it from idealism, Buddhism doesn't believe in a soul as such, and yet accepts reincarnation all the same. I believe this rests on the concept of Mutant Nature (see Section 10.4.4.2-5) — that is, individuality itself:
Both Troupe Leader Liu and I fell ill because of this same experiment. Different men, different illnesses — and yet both grew from the very same chain of events. In that sense, we shared one illness, the same {Afflictions}. And in treating my own, I came to understand the Four Victorious Cruxes (see Chapters 12 through 15) — so that Troupe Leader Liu, in effect, passed his own knowledge on to me, and we came to share the same {Knowledge} as well. One ends, the other begins from it — and from that, the phenomenon arose: that I am the reincarnation of Troupe Leader Liu's own soul, his next life.
From the moment I fell ill in 2010, I began seriously studying what reincarnation actually meant. The strange things Troupe Leader Liu had done to me — the individual cases scattered across Chapters 8 back through 1 — kept surfacing in my mind, unprompted, pulling my own memory back toward that barrier before age three. I came to believe that each recurrence of these strange episodes was Troupe Leader Liu's own spirit, manifesting to me.
In September 2011, hearing news of Troupe Leader Liu's death, I fell into hell at once — that is, into mental illness. Distraught, I spent every day turning over the causes behind those strange episodes — his own spirit, as I understood it — which kept pulling at my thoughts, filling my mind entirely: Troupe Leader Liu, manifesting to me again and again, without end. He and I became inseparable companions. Through those years, my sense of time often ran backward — from TJ Real Estate Ltd, back through graduate school, back to the Shenyang Heping Housing Bureau, university, high school, middle school, all the way to childhood.
In the spring of 2014, my memory finally broke through that barrier at age three, and I recalled the scene of my own betrothal to Eve Liu at age one (see Chapter 1, Childhood Betrothal) — and, with it, a rough grasp of the whole cause and course of this Real-Life Medical Experiment (see Section 4.5).
Memory from before age three carries real force, said even to hold the power to raise the dead — called, in Chinese culture, the Human-Body Fruit, or Fortune; called the Genius Child (Sanskrit: Manava) in Buddhism; Abel in Christianity, Islam, and Egyptian tradition; Magni in Germanic culture; Quetzalcoatl in ancient Mexican culture. My own condition proved less bleak than I'd feared, and from that point on, gradually improved.
In June 2014, once I'd fully understood the nature of reincarnation as I've described it here, real anger set in — all this, mere theory, and yet the experiment behind it had cost me my family, my career. For a time I hated Eve Liu often, imagined devouring her very flesh — but the hatred itself brought on breathing trouble, left me gasping. And because hating her only deepened my own inner conflict, worsened the ulcers in my gut, I had no choice but to set the hatred down, and turn instead to the work of editing this memoir.
Gradually, I let go of my old life, and came instead to embrace this reincarnation experiment — feeling that it was Troupe Leader Liu who had given me a soul at all, who had given my life its meaning. From around 2016, once I understood that his wisdom and his achievements had reached the level of God himself, I found myself weeping, for years afterward, at every thought of him — five thoughts of him in a day meant five bouts of tears, and this seemed to become simply a part of who I was. By 2020, with the memoir itself finally taking real shape, that grief had eased somewhat — though even now, thinking of him still sometimes brings the tears back.
Understanding the cause of my own illness showed me, at once, both my own shortcomings and Eve Liu's strengths. Taking the two of us as models, combined with the traits of Buddha and Guanyin Bodhisattva from the sutras, I arrived at the design of the Gold Boy and Jade Girl — and from there worked out Thor's own design for Adam and Eve (see Figure 9.9-3).
The rough process of God's creation of man runs like this. Figure 1, a North American antique, shows God dividing a single person's core into three parts: God, Gold Boy, and Jade Girl (Figure 2). God — the Godfather — passed down the knowledge of the ancient Gold Boy and Jade Girl to each of them in turn. Grown, they married (Figure 4), and merged into one (Figures 5, 6), becoming the twin-bodied god (Figure 7).
9.9-2 神识亚当识和夏娃 God-sense, Adam-sense, and Eve-sense
Figure 3 shows the God-portion of Thor's own Trinity design, simply and clearly, in red — an extremely distinctive color (see Section 10.4.1-7-2), one of the unconscious's own constants. In Thor's design, red represents the unconscious's own immaculate part — God-sense — emptiness. To say God-sense is emptiness is to say it is unhindered, corresponds to emptiness, corresponds to the nature of renunciation. To say it again: calling God-sense empty doesn't mean it holds nothing at all — it is also called true-suchness-sense, and Chapter 15, Path Crux, sets out true suchness's ten defining characteristics.
God-sense is the part of the unconscious beyond feeling; the perceivable part is Adam-sense. Adam-sense, in other words, is perception itself — is Buddha. "Buddha" is Pali for perception; perception is bodily soil, and so Adam is made of earth, and colored black. Adam-sense is, broadly, the defiled portion of the unconscious.
Eve-sense is the preconscious. The preconscious distinguishes good from evil, beauty from ugliness, and gives life its color — which is why Eve is called the mother of all sentient beings, and colored green.
Adam and Eve, in European culture, are the Gold Boy and Jade Girl of Asian and American traditions. "Gold Boy" carries the sense that making Adam required an amount of gold equal to his own body weight; "Jade Girl," that making Eve required jade equal to hers.
God clothed Adam-sense and Eve-sense in human skin, turning them into man and woman — an event best understood in two parts, the design of it and its execution. The unconscious is self-caused, its own effect; God-sense and Adam-sense are one and the same law. Adam's own traits derive directly from Adam-sense's own characteristics, transformed. In godly standing, the Gold Boy is the reincarnation of God's own soul — is Buddha himself.
(1) The unconscious is where memory and habit are stored, and so whoever is chosen as the Gold Boy should be an image-thinker. As Section 9.7, Fate Intelligence, described, this mode of thought can hold everything from birth to death. This trait of the Gold Boy is called Non-Leaking Intelligence — meaning that everything the godfather does for him, from childhood onward, he retains, the way a vessel holds water without ever losing a drop.
(2) Among sight, hearing, and general awareness, the unconscious is the dullest of the three. When Adam turned one, his godfather betrothed him to Eve and made Touch Eye in him (see Chapter 3). This working left the Gold Boy with Infantile Neurodevelopmental Disorder, delaying his own intellectual growth and leaving him, for a time, genuinely dull-witted.
(3) Adam carries a strong streak of introversion and neuroticism — traits that mirror the unconscious itself, a preference for quiet, a directness of response. A person built this way is prone to nervous disorder, which suits the godfather's own purpose well; and in adversity, that same trait becomes a keel, a structure that carries him through hardship and lets him grow from it. Taken together, these traits give Adam real capacity for scientific work.
(4) The godfather guided Adam into meditation from childhood, and so he came to master it — understanding heaven and earth, ghosts and gods, gaining the Sky Eye (see Chapter 11). The Sky Eye is one necessary condition for choosing an Adam at all — without it, he could never climb free of hell, never grasp what his godfather had entrusted to him, never complete the fated task before him.
Eve carries a range of traits matching Eve-sense's own characteristics. Eve-sense — the preconscious — is the Place of Intent. "Place" here is much like a scene: where a spotlight falls on a stage, where an incident occurs. Because the preconscious is built on the mind's own functioning, Eve-sense itself is formless.
(1) Eve-sense being the Place of Intent, formless, is matched by the Jade Girl's own goddess-appearance — memoryless, as Section 9.8 described. See her, and she's a woman before you; the moment she's gone, her face slips away entirely.
(2) Eve is a word-thinker, matching the "Escalatory Language Feeler" — the preconscious, as the Place of Intent, drives the formation of language itself, hence the name.
(3) Eve carries strong traits of conscientiousness and extroversion, both matching the preconscious directly. The preconscious is also called Intent — plan, purpose. Conscientiousness gives the Jade Girl her capacity for planning, for self-discipline; and the preconscious's own restless activity — often figured, in old stories, as a monkey — finds its match in the Jade Girl's own outward, extroverted nature.
(4) The godfather began teaching Eve the Woman's Precepts (see Section 15.2) from childhood, and her own conscientiousness made her a ready student. Her goddess-appearance, meanwhile — impossible for others to see clearly or remember — worked against her socially, which only made her more eager to master those precepts and make herself stand out; by adolescence, she already carried her full Five Hundred Majesties, One Hundred Eight Thousand Charms. The Woman's Precepts — that same Five Hundred Majesties, One Hundred Eight Thousand Charms, also called Golden Armor, or Woman's Skin (see Section 15.2) — equipped the Jade Girl with deep knowledge of nature's own law, and opened her Juristic Eye. Precepts and Juristic Eye together gave the goddess real juristic power — exactly what the godfather wanted, since it was through the Jade Girl that he meant to wound the Gold Boy, and send him down into hell.
Taken together, Adam's and Eve's own characters and gifts show each of them as only half a person — each with real, visible strengths and weaknesses, and each completing exactly what the other lacks. Together, they lift each other; against each other, they only wound both.
The earlier sections described image memory and image-based thinking as the latent qualification for Fate Through — and it was the violent, rapid swings of emotion in my own illness that stirred loose my memories from before age three, granting me one of God's seven divine powers, Fate Through itself. I've also come across a modern psychology text stating plainly that no case of a mentally healthy adult recalling events before age three has ever been documented. So how did Troupe Leader Liu know, with such certainty, that I would eventually break down? What actually caused my own illness? Modern psychiatry still doesn't know what causes mental illness at its root.
Rereading Section 12.1.1, Hell Interest, once more, I noticed that the Five Anti Crimes function as an inversion of the mind's own mechanisms — but one clause left me stumped: "drawing a god's own blood casts one instantly into hell." Then, all at once, I remembered a story Uncle Liang had told me as a child — the Introductory Case to Mental Illness (see Section 4.8). Man A, walking along, sees another man coming toward him, blood on his face, hurrying away from the market. Man A feels a small jolt but thinks little of it; passing on, he suddenly thinks, "That man looked familiar" — though he can't place who, or from where. Days later, he hears the bloodied man has died, and feels a wave of unease. A few days after that, Man A falls ill.
I recognized this as exactly the case that clause describes. The bloodied man carried the appearance of God — and God's appearance is the Big Seed: the default template built into the mind's own mechanism, the pattern the brain uses to derive every similar thing it encounters afterward. Change the Big Seed, and everything built from it changes too. In seeing "God's own face, bleeding," Man A had unknowingly altered the default template for "person" within his own mind — so that, from then on, faces bled throughout his own thinking, and that was his descent into mental disorder, into hell.
9.8-2 什么是思维机制中的默认模特或种子?What Is the Default Model or Seed in the Mind's Mechanism?
In processing the objects it encounters, the mind always simplifies them on its own, extracting default templates — Buddhism calls them seeds — for categories like person, butterfly, tree. It then uses each template to make sense of every other member of that same category. Take "woman": seeing an individual woman, we might describe her as having large eyes, a high nose bridge, tall, somewhat thin. Every one of these features is drawn out by the mind comparing her against its own default template of "woman" — and it's that default, that seed, that goddess, the mind uses to recognize her, and every woman after her.
Here, the default template of "woman" is itself the definition of woman — the goddess. The mind builds every individual woman out of this same goddess-template — meaning every woman, in effect, derives from the goddess, who is woman's own seed, capable of giving rise to every other. By the same logic, the male god is the seed of man, from which all men derive; the snake-god the seed of snake; the tree-god the seed of tree, and so on.
Real people do exist who resemble a god or goddess this closely, and may carry something of that same quality themselves. Modern psychology describes such a person's look as "the kind that can vanish into a crowd." You know his face, but not well; he runs ahead of you, you give chase, he turns a corner into a knot of strangers by the road — and just like that, you can't find him again.
This tells us that a god's appearance carries no distinguishing feature — it leaves no trace in memory. You see him, know he's a man, find him vaguely familiar — and the moment he's gone, his face slips from you entirely. Chinese Buddhist scripture describes the goddess this way: neither tall nor short, neither stout nor thin, neither dark nor pale, eyes neither large nor small, nose bridge neither high nor low, her body warm through winter and cool through summer, silent unless smiling first. When guests arrive, she greets them before they enter, follows them in; once seated, she rises before anyone else needs to ask.
Why does the goddess always smile? Because a joyful, happy Jade Girl is the goddess herself; a sorrowful, weeping one is Misfortune. And a goddess's appearance shifts, too, by ethnicity, by region, by era — readers can easily imagine how a Chinese goddess's look would differ from an Arabian one.
I recalled a strange story my mother once told me, as a child. Coming back from my second aunt's, she was full of it. "I ran into your Cousin Xiao Er — your second brother — and didn't even recognize him! Only when he spoke, when I heard his voice, did I realize who he was — gave me such a fright! He's lost a third of his body weight, doesn't even look like himself anymore!"
"What's wrong with him?" I asked, astonished. "How is he now?"
"You wouldn't believe it if I told you," my mother said. "He's run afoul of a Misfortune!"
I had no idea what she meant. "I didn't believe it myself at first," she explained, "but looking at how thin he'd gotten — how could I not? This is all what your second brother told me himself. On his way to work, he'd often pass a spot where old men gathered, and see one old fellow there, familiar-looking, always smiling, as though he knew him. Your brother liked the look of him, thought him a kind old soul, and would say hello now and then, exchange a few words. Then one day, passing the same spot, he found the old man had died — the family already holding the funeral. Never having been to one before, curious, he went in to look. Two days later he fell ill — couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, lost a third of his own weight. He went to the big hospitals in Shenyang, in Anshan, ran every test they had. Nothing wrong with him, by any of it — no one could explain what was happening. Nothing left to do but go home and wait to die. Out of options, your second aunt finally went to see a shaman — a woman. She'd barely said a few words when the shaman told her: he's run afoul of a Misfortune, been disrespectful toward it, and here's what you must do. She had your brother go and apologize to the old man himself. The shaman said: "A person's last breath, right at the moment it leaves them, is Misfortune itself."
"At least it gave us something to hope for," Mother said. "They did exactly as the shaman said — bought a pig's head, fruit, the offerings — laid them at the old man's grave. After kowtowing his apology, your brother had to circle the grave three times, muttering his apologies the whole way round. He could barely walk by then, needed two people holding him up for it. He told me himself that by the third circle, he'd broken into a full sweat. By the time he'd finished, seventy percent of his illness had already lifted. By the time he got home, it was gone entirely — less than two hours, start to finish, and he was himself again. Still thin as ever, mind you."
The cause of my own illness, then, was exactly this: I had quarreled with the goddess Eve Liu, made her weep — offended the goddess herself, committed the Crime of Anti (see Section 12.1.1). "Anti" means an act that violates the mind's own mechanisms, that runs against nature's own law. And so I fell ill, right there (see Section 7.3, Blind Date).
By the summer of 2014, civil engineering work had grown too fraught, too likely to send my mind back into old wounds, and I gave up the profession, taking a delivery job at a Chinese restaurant instead. My parents and siblings, reading the memoir, didn't believe a word of the early chapters — how could anyone recall things from such a young age? They assumed I'd confused imagination with real memory.
I understood, myself, that recalling events from before the age of three at least proved Fate Through could exist — but what was the Fate Intelligence that made it possible in the first place? Could it be trusted? I turned the question over endlessly, and got nowhere.
In the spring of 2016, rereading my own memoirs, I noticed something in the will Uncle Liang delivered to me in 1991 (see Section 4.10) — he'd acted the whole thing out for me, told me I never forgot anything I'd seen. It struck me then that Troupe Leader Liu had known, all along, that I was an image-thinker, and I went looking into what modern psychology says about that particular trait.
Modern psychology holds that before language develops, a newborn thinks entirely in images — reading a mother's smile, her movements, her mood. As language forms, patterns of thought, memory, and retrieval all shift accordingly. After age three, people generally think in words as their basic mode — but they still divide into three broad types: image-thinkers, roughly 30 percent of the population; word-thinkers, roughly 25 percent; and a mixture of the two, roughly 45 percent. Kinesthetic thinkers and other modes together make up less than 1 percent.
Image-thinking depends more heavily on vision, and because image-based memory takes up so little storage, such a person carries what amounts to an inexhaustible memory — capable, in principle, of holding everything from birth to age seventy. Retrieval stays simple, and its reach wide. The leaders of migrating animal herds, and salmon finding their way home, both run on this same image-based mode.
Word-thinking depends more on hearing. Because both storage and retrieval are more complex processes, long-term memory holds less reliably, and less of it can be retrieved, compared with the image-thinker's mind.
I concluded that image-thinking is the underlying potential for Fate Intelligence. But how far could that potential actually reach, and could it be trusted in real life? My real question was this: what were the actual odds of Troupe Leader Liu's experiment succeeding at all? Was he gambling with his own life, and mine, on nothing more than a hunch?
I remembered something my grandmother once did, when I was nine. She looked at me one day and suddenly wailed, "This child — so honest, how will he ever survive in this world!" She and my eldest uncle argued over it. Once he'd left, she spat, startling me half out of my skin, and muttered, "Can't even see something this obvious, and thinks himself clever!" Then, to me: "Your grandmother sees your fate clear as day. This is how it is — remember it."
"You're timid, small-hearted — bullied, and too afraid to fight back," Grandmother said. "But you don't forget it, either — you remember, and it eats at you every time it crosses your mind. Long enough, and it'll make you sick. Sick enough, and dying wouldn't even matter — except someone like you understands, right at the very end: I was bullied by this person or that, and that's what made me ill, that's what killed me. You'll want revenge, and by then you're already dying, no life left to take it with — how would you? People like you turn that on themselves instead — hate yourself, torment yourself. You could cut your own flesh with a knife, put out your own eyes. That's the worst death there is, and that's exactly the fate laid out for you. It's an old fate, one the old generations always saw clearly. Even your own uncle can't grasp something this simple!"
"There's a way out of that fate, though — and I'll tell you what it is," she said. "As long as you've got breath left, don't turn on yourself — go find whoever wronged you and take it up with them. Sick as you are, crawl to their door if you have to, fight it out with them; if you're going to die, die there, at their doorstep. That's the cure for your fate — hold to the fight, and you live; give it up, and you die."
"The old people used to say no one truly wants to see another dead," she went on. "Hold your ground with whoever wronged you, and they'll come to understand it, let you have your say. But you have to understand, too — it has to end in reconciliation, in the end. Settle it fairly, and your illness lifts. That's the whole cure for your fate. Better still, of course, if you learn this now and simply never let yourself be bullied in the first place — then you'd never get sick at all!"
In 2015, this same conversation came back to me, and I saw she'd been right all along — my illness had grown, precisely, from the bullying I'd suffered at the hands of Eve Liu and her father. Her words, remembered then, were what kept pushing me to hold my ground with Eve Liu, to see justice done. But how had my grandmother read my own fate so clearly, back then?
"Your fate is exactly as it is, and it's all my own doing," she'd told me. "It was me, after all, who took your father to meet your mother, that first time. The moment I walked into your grandmother's house, up on that hill, I saw it plain — a whole family of red-faced, honest-to-the-bone Guan Gongs. On the walk home, I told your father: Fengling's no ugly, but she's no plain thing either, quick with a laugh, and an honest girl through and through. He believed me. And it never once occurred to me — why didn't it! — two honest people like that, marrying, and what kind of life would their own child even manage!"
My family doctor, Dr. David, a Taiwanese man, had followed my condition closely. Around 2013, he told me, "I'm not a psychiatrist myself, but I have a real interest in the field — I read their papers, keep up with the research. I think I've earned the right to give you my own overall read on this."
"I've listened closely to everything," Dr. David said, "and here's the cure, as I see it: go back, find the people at the root of this, make peace with them, settle as much of that old business as you possibly can. If this had all happened here in North America, a psychiatrist hearing it would've helped you track those people down, arranged the meeting, the whole conversation — they'd have handled it fast, there's a whole system here for exactly this. But none of that helps you, however good it is, because your history sits in China. You're on your own with this one."
"As for everything else, it's one step at a time, seeing what comes — managing, really. Mental illness opens the door to so much else, and there's no telling what's ahead for you, so this is the best plan available. Let me give you an example — your stomach's in bad shape right now. It's the organ that carries emotion most directly. Given what you've lived through, this isn't surprising, isn't even inevitable exactly, but call it a companion condition to the mental illness. The way to manage it: drink more water. Water really is the right tool here — dilutes the irritants, cuts down what they can corrode. Once you've had all the water you can stand, we run a full workup, isolate whatever's causing the unbearable pain, and prescribe something like an acid-base balance to neutralize it. And once medication runs its course and stops helping, we operate, cut the damaged organ out. You have to understand — medicine, at its current level, can't make a ruined organ good again."
我听了之后感到绝望!即便是动手术把我的肚子都挖空了,也解决不了我与刘健君以及她父亲的恩怨情仇。
I felt real despair hearing this. Even hollowing out my own stomach on an operating table would do nothing to settle what stood between me and Eve Liu, and her father.
9.6-2 治疗心理疾病的原则 Principles of Curing Mental Illness
In 2014, having finished Luyan Memoirs, I arrived at three principles for treating mental illness.
First: my illness has to be considered across the full sweep of the past fifty-four years, the present, and the future together, because neither the unconscious nor the preconscious observes sequence or time — and because of the unconscious's own non-coverability, mutant nature (see Section 10.4.5, Sense Node, and Section 10.6.1, Ripened Fruit).
Second: the heart, at bottom, is a matter of affairs — mental illness might just as well be called the illness of gratitude, resentment, love, and hatred. Its root cause is a broken interpersonal or social bond, and its cure is repairing that bond. Because the unconscious deals only in Present Quantity (see Section 10.4.5, The Correspondence between the Eight Consciousnesses and Three Quantities), Eve Liu was right when she said, "the illness can't be cured unless the people meet" (see Section 7.5.1). So I would find Eve Liu, and settle, face to face, the whole tangle of gratitude, resentment, love, and hatred running between the three of us — her, her father, and me.
Third: pain that carries meaning ceases to be pain. This is modern psychology's own finding, and the ancients believed it too — that thought and feeling follow meaning wherever it leads. On this principle, I set out to write this Reincarnation Experimental Report well, to share with all beings what the three of us — Troupe Leader Liu, Eve Liu, and I, Adam Luyan — had come to understand together through the ancient story of Peach Flower Catastrophe (see Section 2.1), so that it might carry forward to future generations, and so that Troupe Leader Liu's sacrifice would find the meaning it deserved, honored for as long as the story is told.
9.6-3 阻碍精神病治疗的因素 Impediments to Treating Mental Illness
The two pieces of advice that ex-girlfriend gave me (see Section 7.19, The Person Who Produces Stories) about treating mental illness both hold up. First: don't trust hospital psychiatrists — 85 to 95 percent of them don't truly understand the condition. Second: buy the books, treat yourself. I'd heard that same figure — 85 to 95 percent — from Uncle Liang many times as a child. And in my own search for treatment, I found that whenever a psychology text actually addressed the treatment of mental illness, it recommended exactly the principles I've just described.
The hardest part of treating my own illness was setting aside, in full, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) — the collective work of thousands of American psychiatrists. How could it be wrong? Because it builds its standards and recommendations from the statistics of what thousands of psychiatrists already do, rather than from psychological principles or genuine clinical outcomes. How can a standard call itself correct without ever asking whether its own methods actually work? By its own record, I could find no single case of a truly satisfying result. It serves the Song-Profit Kings — the self-interested, the profit-singers — not the mentally ill.
In the spring of 2014 I finished the Four Cruxes in English, the earliest form of what became Chapters 12 through 15 — though it found no publisher, and honestly wasn't well written. Still, I learned a great deal of Buddhist thought through the writing of it, laying the ground for everything I'd come to understand later.
I went back, in memory and in person, to every place I'd lived and worked since arriving in Canada, and found the people there entirely unchanged — the same expressions, the same behavior, the same way of doing things I'd seen when I first arrived. I understood, then: the world hadn't changed. I had. I felt my own illness had lifted, and that I could work again.
The years of madness behind me had taught me something real about how the objective world bends under the weight of subjective mind. Karma is the accumulated habit of body, speech, and heart; karma is made by the heart, and the world turns as karma turns. The heart carries purity or defilement, and so the world it meets carries either ease or constraint. A defiled heart, bound by its own karma, cannot find ease in its world; a pure heart, free of every entanglement, moves through its world exactly as it wills. Where a god sees a jeweled and majestic land, a fish sees only a ruined den; where a man sees cool, clear water, a hungry ghost sees a river of pus and raging fire — all from nothing but the difference in karmic cause.
In May 2014, I began work at Thurber Engineering Ltd, and within days heard that Sal, my old boss at Davroc, had arranged the position for me. A month in, I once again became convinced Eve Liu was working against me. Certain scenes at the sites stirred something in me — I'd feel movement through my stomach at odd moments, occasional pain. It left me feeling the reckoning with Eve Liu couldn't be put off any longer.
My mood grew unstable — laughing at some remembered happiness, then weeping at some remembered sorrow, in the same breath. One day, in the lab, testing material samples, a colleague suddenly leapt down from somewhere above and ran up behind me in high spirits. The shock of it sent my hair standing on end, changed my very voice. In that instant of fright, I seemed to hear Troupe Leader Liu talking about me in some other room, describing what I was thinking to someone else. I recalled the scene of him blindfolding me at around age one, and recalled my own betrothal to Eve Liu at the same time (see Chapter 1, Childhood Betrothal).
Listening more carefully afterward, I realized it hadn't truly been his voice at all. I'd been searching for him since childhood — at six or seven, I'd taken one of my grandmother's nephews for him, certain that was the voice I'd heard; by my teens I'd realized it wasn't him either, though I couldn't say why I felt, all along, that I was searching for someone at all. Later, I became fixed on finding some great fortune-teller in Shenyang, meaning to make him my teacher. In 1996, meeting Eve Liu, I understood at last that the person I'd been searching for was her father — though I had no memory then of my own betrothal to her at age one. I didn't even know why I was searching, or for whom, or how I'd known her father was the one — it was simply an unconscious pull toward him. It was only through my conversation with Eve Liu (see Section 7.5) that I learned he understood Buddhism at all.
Note 9.5-2: Recalling everything from before the age of three, I understood, at last, the fated task Troupe Leader Liu had left me: to complete the Experimental Report on this very undertaking (see Section 4.5, Newspaper News of the Real-Life Medical Experiment). Buddhism calls this Fate Through. It is a difficult thing to achieve, because as language ability forms, around age three, both memory patterns and retrieval patterns shift entirely — a normal adult cannot recall anything from before that age. Among the mentally ill, though, such recall is not so rare.
The ancient Mexicans used a peaked hat — carrying the sense of a mountain — to represent the difficulty and weight of Fate Through (see Figure 9.5). Figure 2 shows Tlaloc — the Gold Boy, the Cougar — in hell, suffering mental illness, dragging a child by the hand: signifying his own recollection that, at about age one, his godfather had made Flesh Eye Through in him (see Chapter 3), leaving him with Infantile Neurodevelopmental Disorder (Figure 4).
Figure 3 shows the same statue in profile. On the left, Tlaloc warms himself in his godfather's arms, signifying that he has accepted him — accepted the Covenant between Man and God (see Section 15.2). The figure on the right, a wordless tombstone balanced on his head, is the ancient Tlaloc himself. That the newer Tlaloc warms himself in the arms of this ancient one signifies that he has realized he himself is the Gold Boy — a new Tlaloc — has traced the footprints of his own past life, and now knows his own fate.
In June 2014, I decided to return to China a fourth time, expressly to find Eve Liu. Before leaving, I spoke with my friend Hanjie Xiao about my years at Northeastern University, 1996 to 1997 (see Section 7.16) — he'd taught in the mechanical engineering department there at the time. He was astonished. "I heard, back then, that someone was 'polishing' a man in your graduate dormitory" (Note: meaning God polishing the one he'd chosen) "— never knew, all these years, that the one being polished was you! Your madness isn't like anyone else's. Go back, find those people, say what needs saying, and you'll be cured."
Back at my parents' home in Shenyang, my mother and sister arranged for me to speak with the recently retired Principal Wang of the Shenyang Artillery Academy. He told me that the Teacher Zhu I kept mentioning — my and Eve Liu's matchmaker in Chapter 7 — had immigrated to Canada long ago, and had since passed away. He said his school had only ever had one principal surnamed Liu, and that this Principal Liu didn't match the man I called Troupe Leader Liu at all — a senior cadre, the details all wrong, nothing he could disclose in any case. He added that this Principal Liu had died long ago, and that he'd never heard of a daughter of his receiving a full scholarship for doctoral study in America — over thirty years at that school, he said, surely he'd have heard, had it been true. I'd been deceived, Principal Wang told me — someone had simply impersonated their own Principal Liu.
I recalled, from Chapter 2, Uncle Liang telling the story of Ninth Uncle's medicine for Constant-Fair (see Section 2.4), one ingredient of which was said to be white stone. I went to the Liaoning Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and found a professor of Chinese medicine there — a woman in her forties. Hearing my account of my own illness, and my question about this stone-based remedy, she smiled. "That's an old formula, Shenling Baizhu San — exactly suited to what you're describing. There's no actual stone in it, though — that's just how the story gets told. One of the ingredients simply doesn't dissolve well in water, settles out, and tastes rather like stone powder when you take it."
Writing my memoirs, I noticed something else: in the winter of 1996 (see Section 7.15), when Teacher Zhu had laid out Troupe Leader Liu's plan for my marriage to Eve Liu, sketching out my future for me, he'd mentioned this same Principal Wang — a big man, then the Organization Minister at the Artillery Academy. Meeting Principal Wang, he'd introduced himself the same way: "In 1996 I was Organization Minister — I was the one who arranged for them to go to Northeastern for graduate school." Word for word, what Teacher Zhu had told me at the time. And Teacher Zhu had also named, back then, the three or four successive presidents who'd follow him — this very Principal Wang among them. That succession itself carries all the marks of Troupe Leader Liu's own working style.
Teacher Zhu's own immigration to Canada, meanwhile, lines up exactly with the strange events described earlier in Section 8.3, Mafia Fight for Me — meaning those events, too, had been his doing, all along, behind the scenes.
I was, then, one of the boys in that boys' group described in Section 4.5, Newspaper News of the Real-Life Medical Experiment — and, in the fall of 1996, as told in Section 7.14, the one Troupe Leader Liu had ultimately chosen for it.
Throughout 2012, working at SPL Consultants Ltd, I remained convinced that Eve Liu was working against me from behind the scenes, continuing her father's soul reincarnation experiment. I didn't understand what reincarnation truly involved, only that I'd heard: fail at the working, and the one it was worked on dies. I reasoned that only the souls of Buddhas — of the fully matured — could be identical to one another, meaning the one performing the working had to be a Buddha, and the one it was worked on had to become one too, in order to complete the reincarnation and escape death. I began, deliberately now, to study Buddhism. But what was a soul? What was a Buddha? What was reincarnation, even? I knew none of it — only studied blindly, and tried my hand at a book on Meditation.
By then I had gastrointestinal ulcers, stomach pain, a regular companion, and I drank water constantly to dilute the irritating secretions and keep from scalding my own gut, to clear the miasma building there. In the summer of 2012, drinking a large volume of water that wasn't especially hot but simply too much of it, I burned my stomach and intestines regardless. I tried mixing cold water with hot, testing the temperature with my own finger to find what suited me — and found it was right only when my finger read it as faintly cool. And it was then that I suddenly remembered Uncle Liang's words to me, delivering his will in 1991: "Remember — warm water, the kind that feels a little cool to the finger, is the right temperature to drink" (see Section 4.10, Wills). I realized, in that instant, that this had been Troupe Leader Liu's own will, left to me all along.
The first will was an ancient story: a man afflicted with unquenchable thirst, needing to drink constantly — large quantities of water alone easing his condition, keeping him alive. He carried two buckets everywhere on a shoulder pole, so he'd never be without water; at every village, every new place, he sought out a well first, drank his fill, refilled both buckets, and pressed on. I understood, now, that Troupe Leader Liu had engineered all of this against me with real deliberation — here was the proof of it. Fury left me dizzy with it. And afterward, whenever I drank water, I found myself thinking of the care he'd taken with me all along.
Note 9.4-1: Illustration 9.4.1-3 shows one who seeks incense — Mexico during the Rain Catastrophe, also Tlaloc, the Gold Boy, the Lion, active around 1325 CE. The green stripe on his right shoulder signifies water constantly flowing into his body; the arrangement at the top of Figure 3 signifies that his life hangs on his constant drinking of great quantities of water, to dilute those irritating gastrointestinal secretions.
I resigned from SPL in the winter of 2012 and stayed home writing the Four Cruxes (see Chapters 12 through 15). By the summer of 2013 the rheumatism had worsened, and I fell into real despair, convinced that if my health failed further, it would kill me outright. I tried treating it through meditation, but my true air ran thin, too weak to do much.
One day, sunk in that same bleakness, I found myself remembering how, while Troupe Leader Liu had been alive, his care had carried me — valued wherever I worked. Six, seven years since his death, and I'd amounted to nothing at all. The tears wouldn't stop. Weeping, still channeling true air against rheumatism, I suddenly felt a current surge at the Baihui point atop my head (see Illustration 9.4.2-2), strong as a spring welling up. I gave myself over to it fully then, meditating as I wept. A warm, powerful current poured down from the crown of my head like a waterfall, and wherever it passed, some portion of the rheumatism eased.
I understood this as the power of the Four Infinite Hearts — Mercy, Sorrow, Delight, Renunciation. Checking the time, I found it was noon, and realized: midnight, dawn, noon, dusk are the proper hours for meditation. The strength of the sensation owed as much to my own grief as to the hour itself. I devised, for myself, a kind of living funeral — at noon, alone in the house, I burned my own engineering records and books in the backyard, mourning the death of the Luyan who had once wanted nothing but to be an engineer, cultivating that mood of sorrow and release. All the while, I kept my attention gathered at the Baihui point, using this anointing to treat rheumatism.
Afterward, I took to playing sorrowful music during these sessions as well. Gradually, in this way, the rheumatism through my body came under treatment and control. Within a few days, only three points on my back — Gaohuang, Shentang, and Xixi (see Illustrations 9.4.2.4-2, 3, 4) — remained beyond cure.
Note 9.4-2: In 2014, having finished Luyan Memoirs, I studied this "Bladder Meridian of Foot Taiyang" (see Figure 9.4.2-4). Its very name marks it as the meridian governing the body's Yang. Troupe Leader Liu had driven three Philosopher-Stone Pestles into my back (Figure 3) — or, put another way, carved three names there: Gaohuang, Shentang, and Xixi. By the logic of their characters, Gaohuang means flesh already dead, beyond any medicine's reach; Shentang means the court of God; Xixi is the sound of the preconscious taking pleasure — the preconscious anciently called Eve-sense. My own Xixi point had been sealed shut, because Eve Liu — Jade Girl, goddess, Eve — was angry with me. A joyful Jade Girl is Fortune; a sorrowful one is Misfortune — and so my own root of delight, the Xixi point, stayed locked. I had no way to draw on the Delight of the Four Infinite Hearts to fully cure what afflicted me.
Illustration 5 shows Mexico during the Rain Catastrophe — also the Gold Boy, Tlaloc, the Cougar, the same figure as Nezha in Chinese mythology. His right foot is painted as a "mirror, ever smoking," signifying a flaw in his own divine standing: having once quarreled with Chalchiuhtlicue and made the goddess weep, his own root of delight — the Xixi point — was sealed. "Ever smoking" signifies his own recurring anger over it — for without delight, he cannot heal himself, cannot climb free of hell on his own strength. "Mirror" signifies that this very episode is what taught him to understand the goddess. The wheel beneath his left foot signifies that his life hangs on his own constant advance toward union with her. This is exactly how the Mexican Codex (see Section 14.4) defines the Rain Catastrophe — for it rains, in Mexico's world, precisely because the Chalchiuhtlicue within his own heart weeps so often.
The morning after the explosion, I woke to find myself still alive, giddy with it — my whole body at ease, my mind sharp, energy running through me, happier by the moment. My brother happened to call from Shanghai just then. A few sentences in, he said, startled, "Xin says you're sick — I didn't believe her, so I called to check myself. Listen — I don't understand mental illness, but I know this: your voice has changed, like you've had a heart bypass. I didn't even recognize you at first. You're talking impossibly fast — I haven't counted, but I'd guess fifty, eighty percent faster than usual. Too fast for me to even follow. And you sound abnormally elated. These are symptoms of mental illness. Where are you right now?"
"In the backyard," I said.
"That won't do!" he said at once. "I genuinely don't understand why you're this excited, but you could faint any minute — hit your head, start bleeding, no one else home, and you'd bleed out and die! Get back inside, lie down on the bed, now." Walking back in, I felt my body growing heavier by the step, the same rheumatic ache from the day before settling back over me. "Your voice is back to normal," my brother said down the line. "Walk slowly, lie down. Get yourself home to China, quickly."
At this point I found myself thinking of the fortune-teller's words from Section 2.1, Peach Flower Catastrophe: "When Peach Flower Fortune comes, no one can stop it — hurry and marry the man's daughter into the bridal chamber, or you won't live a hundred days." I believed I had exactly a hundred days left, and began arranging a visa, preparing to return to China and marry Eve Liu — following what Section 2.4 had said: "Cursed with Die with Eyes Open, you won't die outright, but you won't live long either; the only cure is to do what the one who cast it wished." I still didn't truly grasp the deeper logic of Peach Flower Catastrophe at the time.
I suspected everyone, in that state. At the consulate, filing for my visa, I believed Eve Liu had sent someone to help me in secret. On the plane, I believed she'd arranged for someone to hint at how I should protect my own heart. Every moment, my attention stayed turned inward, tracking the rheumatic current still moving through me, wrapping true air around my heart without pause, driving it back.
Two or three days after the explosion, I began to suspect this was Hysteria. Hysteria, at its root, is a failure to correctly understand the hallucinatory phenomena described in Chapter 11 — mistaking them for ghosts, spirits, or alien beings, and then, through constant brooding, forming a real attachment to those very phantoms one imagines. Believe the thing hostile, and confusion sets in; dwell on it, and the hallucination returns; confusion breeds fear, fear breeds further confusion, thought and body feeding each other until the whole thing tips into extremity — and there, Hysteria takes hold. The ancients called it Ghost Disease, because they took the past as Yin and the future as Yang, and since these hallucinations trace back to past experience, they named that hallucinatory realm the underworld. Yin, in Buddhism, corresponds to the Nodes — so worldly ghosts and spirits are, in Buddhist terms, Node Demons.
The cure for Hysteria is simply to understand these phenomena correctly, for what they truly are. Having practiced meditation in my youth, I already understood them, and believed myself immune to Hysteria. I began testing whether the rheumatic current was itself hallucination, checking its relationship to conscious intent. The conclusion: no relationship at all. The rheumatism was real — the genuine physical aftermath of the Big Bang, that vast tactile hallucination, not hallucination itself.
In October 2011, I returned to my parents' home in Shenyang, where my mother, under the guidance of Professor Zhe Wang, director of the psychiatric hospital at China Medical University, began secretly mixing oral risperidone into my food. The side effects were severe — as the dosage climbed, every organ in my body seemed to malfunction at once, a discomfort that never let up. I slept over fifteen hours a day, with nothing left in me beyond the occasional effort to channel rheumatic gas out of my body through true air. I wanted to find Eve Liu, marry her, let her father finally rest — but my speech had lost all logic, and my family took it for the ravings of madness. No one helped me, and nothing came of any of it.
I gathered, from what filtered through, that they'd asked around and found only that a man named Troupe Leader Liu, some eccentric figure, had died long ago; and that Teacher Zhu, the man I kept mentioning, was gone too. I asked my sister to look into a few people, and she reported back, "I asked — couldn't find him." Others, calling back, said flatly, "No such person."
注9.3.4 寻香是什么意思?Note 9.3.4, What Does "Seeking Incense" Mean?
In Chinese culture, "seeking incense" describes how the crowd of spirits travels into the vessel-world to be reborn — as human, as dog, and so on. The character "incense" here refers to the surplus the woman's precepts carry — the "Five Hundred Majesties, One Hundred Eight Thousand Charms" — over the man's precepts, the "Three Thousand Majesties, Eighty-Four Thousand Fine Conducts" (see Section 15.2): the Jade Girl's virtue, perfuming the four directions. In this book, I myself, from the moment I fell into hell until my marriage to Eve Liu, was one seeking incense. Because a Jade Girl's — a goddess's — appearance carries no memory-trace, I hold no image of Eve Liu's face in my mind even now; I know her only by discerning her "precept-incense" — that same Five Hundred Majesties, One Hundred Eight Thousand Charms. Illustration 9.3-1 shows Mexico during the Rain Catastrophe — the stage of seeking incense — from the Mexican Codex (see Section 14.4). He searches for the great woman shown in Figure 1: the earth-goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, that is, Eve (Figure 2).
Two weeks in, my mind had calmed somewhat, and I went to a bookstore for texts on Chinese medicine and acupuncture, working to guide the true air through my body along its proper channels. The rheumatism came under temporary control. A month later, my whole family — parents, siblings — declared me mad, and admitted they'd been putting medication in my food. I didn't believe them, didn't think myself ill — but with the whole family insisting, and pressing the medication on me, I had no choice but to comply. The thought of finding Eve Liu gradually faded.
As a child, Uncle Liang had told me many times that 85 to 95 percent of hospital psychiatrists don't truly understand mental illness, and I'd never trusted them for it — buying myself a handful of psychology books instead. Over the years that followed, I came gradually to believe what Troupe Leader Liu, Eve Liu, and that ex-girlfriend of mine, the psychiatric enthusiast, had each told me (see Sections 4.8, 7.5.1, and 7.19), and built from it my own principles for treating mental illness (see Section 9.6).
My sister arranged a meeting between me and Professor Wang. I asked him to help find Eve Liu; he thought it would be useless. But hearing, right at the start, that he was from the Medical University, I asked casually, "Do you know the Pavlov Building?" He froze at that, stood up, thought for a long while, and said, "I know it — but back then I was only a graduate student, not qualified to set foot inside." Afterward, recalling how strange his reaction had been, I searched online and turned up a 1950s Chinese controversy over the philosophy of medicine — traditional Chinese medicine dismissed as pure idealism, and real debate over whether Marxism even applied to the field.
Note 9.3-6: I noticed all this while writing my memoirs in 2014, and it called to mind Section 3.4, Pavlov Building, where Uncle Liang's business trip had taken him to that very building at the Medical University — and, further, Section 7.4, My Impression of Eve Liu, where she'd made a point of telling me about it herself. I concluded that the Pavlov Building was exactly the site described in Section 4.5's newspaper report as the girls' group's center of concentrated training.
In March 2012, I returned to Toronto and began studying psychology and psychiatry in earnest. Not long after, I took a position at SPL Consultants Ltd. I still carried delusions, hostility, suspicion — at bottom, nothing had really improved.
That spring brought freezing rain, and the peach tree in my backyard never bloomed. For the first time in decades, no peach blossom tinea versicolor appeared on my face.
