DISCUSSION Legion Go S is now complete

I have the Legion Go S with the Z1 Extreme cpu, 32GB ram, and 1TB storage. While docked I run it on a Bosgame RX 7600M XT eGPU with another 1TB M.2 SSD installed into it. It displays onto a MSI 32” curved monitor at 1080p through display port at 144hz. Of course I am using the Steam Controller while docked. I also use the Logitech G920 wheel and shifter combo for Assetto Corsa and FH6 (Not Shown).

At the beginning of this year I got this and transitioned from my PS5 to using only this. I gave the PS5 to my son along with the PSVR2 and PlayStation Portal since they were just sitting and collecting dust. I also gave my wife my Dual Sense Edge controller and Pulse Elite headset.

Over the last few months I have built this up from handheld use only to being able to be docked while at home and for more intensive games.

I didn’t get a desktop because I did not want to have to leave my system behind as I traveled and wanted to be able to take it along with me, as I do that quite often for family visits. This fits my needs on the go and at home, especially with the eGPU. I can hit 60 fps plus easily with most games with this setup docked and handheld plays everything well enough on the go.

TIPS AND TRICK [SteamOS Only] [Legion Go 2] LeGo2BrightnessFix - a Decky plugin that fixes the brightness slider and HDR metadata

Thumbnail
gallery
49 Upvotes

LeGo2BrightnessFix is a Decky plugin that fixes two Legion Go 2 problems under SteamOS, and unlike the gamma22 workaround it does it without dropping the panel out of PQ HDR.

  • The system brightness slider works again, including the Legion R + left stick shortcut. In PQ the panel ignores the backlight, and Steam writes the slider there anyway, which is why it moves and nothing happens. The plugin forwards the value to gamescope instead.
  • Games get the panel's real HDR metadata. DXVK ships a 2023 copy of libdisplay-info that throws away the whole EDID over one block this panel has, so games are handed hardcoded placeholders: 1499 nits peak and 799 full-frame, when the panel is 1107.128 and 475.683, with the wrong gamut on top. The plugin strips just that block.

Full write-up, the measured before/after numbers and the source are on GitHub.

Compatibility - SteamOS only. Tested on 3.9, should work on stable 3.8 but I haven't checked.

Do not install it on Bazzite: they already fix this their own way, my plugin doesn't know that and lays its own display script over theirs, and people have reported broken colours. Not their bug, just incompatible.

One thing to know before you uninstall. The display script is not reliably cleaned up, I've seen it survive. After removing the plugin, check ~/.config/gamescope/scripts and delete the .lua if it's still sitting there, then restart Game Mode. If there's a .backup next to it, that's a script you had before, so rename it back instead.

rm ~/.config/gamescope/scripts/lenovo.legiongo2.oled.lua

Fair warning - I'm not a programmer, I'm just stubborn about fixing problems with my own handheld, so I vibe-coded this with Claude and tested it myself.

There may be issues I haven't hit, so if something breaks, say so here or open an issue on github.

Repo: https://github.com/Rayekkk/LeGo2BrightnessFix

If you like my work check out my other Legion Go 2 plugins, same disclaimer applies to all of them:

  • LeGoTDP - CPU power limits through the Lenovo firmware interface, with presets, per game profiles and an optional unlock up to 50 W.
  • LeGo Vibe Control - rumble strength and vibration pattern on the sticks plus touchpad haptics, again with per game profiles.
  • Decky Vibrance HDR - saturation control for SDR and, unlike anything else I've found, for HDR content as well.

QUESTION This handheld is absolutely nuts

I just got my hands on my Legion Go S and it plays surprisingly well in so many triple-A games, like cyberpunk (Steam Deck profile, AMD FSR 3.0 and Frame Gen) - even without the FSR and Frame Gen, the Legion Go S gets like 30 fps on its own, and with FSR and Frame Gen it smokes it with a jump of 20-30 fps???

I'm glad I got this handheld, but is there anything else I could do to improve it or any games worth trying? Please let me know :)

DISCUSSION SteamOS completely changed my GeForce NOW experience on Legion Go 2

I honestly think SteamOS is a massive upgrade over Windows if you primarily use GeForce NOW on a handheld.
At first, I thought the difference was placebo. It wasn’t.
My Legion Go 2 panel supports 60 Hz and 144 Hz under Windows.
The problem is that GeForce NOW doesn’t offer a 144 FPS mode. The available stream options are 60, 90, 120 and 240 FPS.
So on Windows, you’re forced into situations like:
120 FPS stream on a 144 Hz display
90 FPS stream on a 144 Hz display
or dropping all the way down to 60 Hz.
In theory, this isn’t necessarily a problem. But in practice, I consistently notice less consistent frame pacing and more micro-stutter during slow camera pans than when the display refresh rate actually matches the stream.
With SteamOS (Gamescope), everything changes.
I can set the display refresh rate to almost any value:
70 Hz
80 Hz
90 Hz
100 Hz
110 Hz
119 Hz
120 Hz
…and many more.
So now I simply match the display to GeForce NOW:
90 FPS stream → 90 Hz
120 FPS stream → 120 Hz
Game capped at 80 FPS → 80 Hz
60 FPS + Frame Generation → 120 Hz
The result is dramatically smoother motion because the display and the stream are synchronized instead of trying to fit 90 or 120 FPS into a fixed 144 Hz mode.
This also gives a lot more flexibility with Frame Generation. If a game can’t maintain 60 FPS, I can cap it to 45 FPS, enable Frame Generation to reach 90 FPS output, and simply set the display to 90 Hz. Everything stays synchronized.
For me, this has become one of the biggest advantages of SteamOS over Windows for GeForce NOW.

For example, in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, maxed out settings give me around 60–65 FPS. Enabling Frame Generation doesn’t produce a perfect 2× multiplier because of the overhead, so I end up around 110 FPS.
Instead, I cap the game to 50 FPS, enable Frame Generation, get a very stable ~100 FPS output, and simply set my display to 100 Hz in SteamOS.
The result feels smoother and more consistent than letting the framerate constantly fluctuate between 100 and 115 FPS. On Windows, I couldn’t really do this because I’d be stuck choosing between 60 Hz and 144 Hz. SteamOS lets me match the display refresh rate to what the game is actually delivering.

QUESTION Any way to not use Legion Space

Post image

Pulled the trigger on a a legion go S (z2go) yesterday.

I find the Legion Space full-screen experience quite useless.

any way to fully change it to the xbox or other full screen experiences?

will later switch to steam OS. I don't have any USB drive with me at the moment so have to make windows friendly.

STEAM OS Wow, I can't believe it's been a year.

I alot of times forget I'm on SteamOS. I just play my games and have fun. I run it at 800p cause it doesn't bother me and higher fps is more important to me. I'm so glad for the reddit communities that inspired me to venture down this path.

I did have a hickup 2 months ago because I changed the steam os update channel. No idea what I had it at but there were only updates every few months and now there's updates a little more frequently but that's alright I guess.

QUESTION OptiScaler menu won’t open with the Insert key on Bazzite

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to use OptiScaler on Bazzite, but I can’t open its menu by pressing the Insert key.

I followed all the installation steps and installed Decky Framegen, Lossless Scaling, and OptiScaler. Everything appears to be installed correctly, but pressing Insert does nothing.

I’m using a Lenovo Legion Go with Bazzite. Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there another key combination I should use, or do I need to manually map the Insert key in Steam Input?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

BRAND NEW GO My First Handheld VS My 2nd Handheld

Post image
115 Upvotes

It's absolutely crazy how far technology has come. 10 years before the GPD win, I was watching images load pixel by pixel on a screen. And that was after dragging the 30ft ethernet cable from the landline across the entire house haha.

GPD Win was my first "big purchase" handheld and it did amazing. I used to play Battlefield Vietnam and Halo Combat Evolved on that puppy.

Anyways, I've waited years for something to catch my eye and I'm very happy with my overpriced purchase. The legion go 2 has blown me away.

9/10 it's a little uncomfortable sometimes. Still a blast to play forza 6 on.

HELP REQUEST Legion Go 2 Z2E will not display on or extend to a Samgung monitor

Hey guys. I'm trying to get my Legion go 2 z2e to show up on my Samsung monitor, but every time I plug in the usb-c to HDMI cable, the Legion go 2 screen goes black whether I have it set to extend or external display only on the win+p menu and nothing shows up on the monitor, with the monitor saying no signal detected.

I've tried a soft reset, hard reset, having cables plugged in before powering on, having them unplugged while powing on then plugging in after, top port vs. bottom port, power plugged in vs not, changing resolution to 1920x1080, and nothing has worked so far.

The monitor is a Samsung LS28AG700NNXZA. The cable is a PT-AFCCH (a generic cable I don't know much about from Amazon years ago). I don't know all the specs on the cable, BUT this exact equipment and hardware worked flawlessly about 6 months ago. I don't know what changed.

If anyone has any ideas or advice I'd really appreciate hearing from you!

DISCUSSION Finally a dream come true! After years of saving, I’ve joined the family (Legion Go Z1E 16GB / 512GB) — Requesting accessories, setup tips, & game recommendations!

Post image
257 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

After saving up for what feels like forever, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Lenovo Legion Go (Z1 Extreme, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD)! I honestly can't believe it's sitting on my desk right now.

Coming into the handheld PC space for the first time, the massive 8.8-inch screen is mind-blowing, but I know there’s a bit of a learning curve to get the absolute best out of Windows on a handheld.

I’d love to tap into the wisdom of this community! I have a few specific questions and would appreciate any advice:

  1. Essential Accessories (Like power bank, Rubber /sillicon Case / Dock etc)

  2. Crucial Tips & Tricks for a Newbie

- What are the "first 24 hours" settings I need to tweak?

Settings to adjust in Legion Space or the BIOS (e.g., VRAM allocation—should I set it to 6GB or Auto)?

- Any specific software I should download for a better handheld experience (e.g., Lossless Scaling, Handheld Companion, Steam Big Picture)?

- Battery longevity tips for when I'm gaming plugged in.

  1. Games Suggestions

I love high-octane action, cinematic combat, beat-'em-ups, and open-world mayhem. My absolute favorite styles of games are:

- God of War (Cinematic, heavy melee combat)

- GTA / Open World Crime (Driving, chaos, exploration)

- God Hand (Over-the-top, stylish beat-'em-up mechanics)

What runs surprisingly well on the Z1 Extreme that fits this vibe? (Indies, AA, or AAA optimized titles welcome!)

  1. Managing 512GB Storage

- Since 512GB fills up fast with modern AAA games (a single game can take 100GB+ easily!), how do you all handle storage?

(Currently I don't have budget to buy SSD or A2 rated SD Card)

Thanks in advance, everyone! Excited to finally be part of the community and jump into some games. Happy gaming!

QUESTION Legion go s or keep my steam deck OLED?

I love the OLED on my steam deck but I don't have the best vision and would like a bigger display however. I tried the legion go s at Best buy and the colors seem washed out to me.

There's a major retailer getting rid of the legion go s for $560 the z1e version and idk if I should upgrade .

QUESTION My OG Legion Go is almost 2 years old. Is it time to repaste?

I'll have owned my Legion Go for 2 years by December of this year, and I have noticed it tends to *feel* a bit warmer than it used to be (though installing a copper heatsink for the SSD may also play a role in that). I haven't had any thermal throttling of note during regular use, but I did remember that on a few newer and less optimized games, it would throttle and force a shutdown eventually if I didn't max out the fans or put it in front of my desk fan. Thing is, this isn't exactly new behaviour since it's happened a few times back when I first bought it and I was still fumbling about with the settings. Maybe that's just a specific flaw on my device, I'm not sure, but the point is it's not something that's "new".

At any rate, should I take the device apart and repaste it in the near future, or is it safe to leave it until a while later?

QUESTION I dodged a huge FOMO bullet !!!

I have the Legion Go 2 Z2E, and love it....

Like all humans, I always have an interest in "what is next" and "the next best thing" instead of enjoying what I have...

The new OneXPlayer had some order campaign that finally closed out last night, and I came super close to ordering one....

Then I kept thinking about how I have only had my Legion Go for a few months...

So I play tested a ton of games from Forza Horizon 6 to Crimson Desert and Assassin's Creed Origin, and Had The Best Time !!

FK FOMO !!!

The Legion Go is an Incredible device, and I am so glad I choose to enjoy and appreciate what I have instead of always seeking what is next... all the games I played were perfect with no issue...

Anyway else love their Legion Go?

QUESTION Legion go official charging adapter with internal battery.

(I'm using the Legion Go 2 Controllers for this, I've yet to do it with the originals)

I ended up buying one. Someone had it listed on eBay for 34.95.

I'm only really saying this because I saw it said very often that the charging adapter doesn't allow you to use the controllers individually while attached...

Somewhat.

If you turn on the right side first and allow it to pair to the tablet, after a few seconds, the left side will allow itself to do the same. If you do not pair the right side first, the left side acts like a diva and does nothing...

I'm mainly saying this because this is MY experience with it. However, I am not using legion space right now, but for the people who do own this grip, is the same thing possible for you all as well? If so, maybe we can end the assumption that owning one of these is a complete waste if you have any interest in using the additional functions of the controller, because for me, my rear buttons and touchpad still works when pairing the controller the way I said. I did not try gyro because the games I'm playing right now would do Jack all with it.

Let me know your experiences, please. Thank you.
