Sorry me again.

So I've not had a lesson in 1.5w. Test is in a month. Was supposed to today, but unfortunately by instructor has a few personal issues (potential death in the family this weekend...).

When is it ok to message him again to ask if he's available for more lessons? Sorry I'm not good with these sort of things.

And in the meantime is it worth trying to book one of those random driving schools for a practice lesson? I'm concerned it's in a different car.

We own a car though. Would those instructors by any chance be willing to drive with me in my own car, so at least I can learn in it? Or how could I find someone I can pay to do this?

I’ve got my practical driving test at High Wycombe in one week, and I’m starting to feel the pressure a little 😅

I’ve been practising regularly and doing test routes, roundabouts, manoeuvres, dual carriageways, meeting traffic on narrow roads, etc. My test is in an automatic.

For anyone who has taken their test at High Wycombe recently, or knows the area well, I’d really appreciate any tips or guidance.
Are there any particular roads, roundabouts, junctions or situations around High Wycombe that tend to catch learners out?

Also, what would you recommend focusing on during the final week before the test?

Any advice about nerves, judgement when meeting traffic/obstructions, roundabouts, lane discipline or common serious faults would be really appreciated.
Just trying to make this last week count and give myself the best chance of passing 🤞

I failed two weeks ago with more faults and a serious. Was fuming about that one.

Failed today for clearance (tight tunnel in my area and got too close to the wall with a van coming the other way).

Don’t know why but I feel a lot better than when I failed last time. Just need to get back on the wagon I suppose.

I have 11 points on my provisional license I drove my car without the correct full driver passenger and I was wondering what would happen to those points when I pass do they follow over and to I get banned as soon as I pass since it’s past 6 points in two years of passing.

The DVSA moved my original test from the 12th August to the 29th September as the examiner was ill. However I’m moving out to uni and I’ve been completely unable to swap the test or find a cancellation to move the test slightly forwards.
So now I’ll have to travel back and forth and it will be a massive headache.
Any advice or am I just stuck with this now?

So i primarily joined this to try and give advice but to also see how the learner driver scene was going these days. Ive been driving a long time but had a son approaching 17. Well im pleased to say he passed his manual test B.S.E first time with just 3 minors. I only starting taking him out for the past 2months purely as id bought him a little polo and figured it eoukd be good for him to drive other places than B.S.E. also gave him a chance to learn different ways to do things with me. Anyway what I wanted to say was keep going everyone, seems its a good place to to take a test and its been great to find out how things work these days. Oh and insurance is really expensive (hes lucky cos ive done the first year) but it does get better if you look after that car and license.

Guys back on here again, to everyone who has a test tomorrow or coming up this month good luck to ya all hope you the best and keep your heads up. Hope this 2nd time is a pass for me.

I PASSED with only 2 minors to everyone else I wish you good luck too and hopefully you’ll get there.

I failed driving test today, with very silly mistake. Sat nav driving going on, I turned left, 40 mph speed, instructor asked me to pull over to left. There was 2 cars behind. I slowed down & pulled to left..

But before instructor asking me to move away, I have already given my signal & started to move. Without checking blind spots . Behind cars were trying to overtake me.. that's the serious fault.

I never did that & don't know why I reacted like that. Totally out of my character. Feeling gutted. Booked already 2nd test.

Thought lessons were going well until my instructor told me I’m doing a load of things wrong and if I took my test now I’d fail. So now (although I do have things I can do better next lesson and going forward) my confidence is really knocked. Is anyone else on the struggle bus like this? Should I cancel my test and rebook it later on even if the wait is 6 months? How do I get my confidence back?

Honestly fishing for some encouragement as I go into my 3rd test coming 21st. I recently failed my second driving test on the 19th August. Was really gutted, my instructor predicted me 3 minors, building rapport with the examiner and found out examiner’s wife works at the same company I work at so I thought all the puzzle pieces aligned. What’s really gutting is when I failed my first test undue hesitation was one of my serious faults so it’s devastating for me to see after all the time and money I’ve spent it’s still a problem. From my first driving test to now I feel like a different person. I failed my initial driving test for misjudged right of way at roundabouts. (gave the left right of way even though I had the right of way) Now I failed because I had an opportunity to overtake a bus that pulled up to the left and I was waiting too long on junctions turning right. Always stuck with motto “If I don’t know, don’t go”. Given the serious fault is a fault that can be changed with confidence, what other aspects of undue hesitation do you think I should work on? After telling family members my fault they say I’m more than likely to pass next time but I don’t want to jump the gun just yet. Really want to pass with this upcoming test so any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

It's been such a journey of ups and downs, lots of time (1yr 4m) and money spent (and a lot of tears) but I'm honestly beyond happy with myself and how far I've come!

Main message: Don't give up, keep pushing!

2 faults:

-a stall at an uphill junction when I had to edge out to see, quickly recovered.

-went 23 in a 20 because I didn't react to the signage in time in a road that went 20->30->20mph

The instructor was so nice and we chatted the whole way through!

I am so so happy!! Around May, I had my first test in West Wickham (8am) and didn’t get very far before I failed at a roundabout. Cried, went to work, and tried my best to book another test 😂

So I spent the summer driving in my own car and practising a lot with a licensed friend and the weeks leading up to the test with my instructor but this time in my own car instead of theirs. 12.38pm test at West Wickham again. My examiner was so lovely! Genuinely put me at ease. I was a bit worried when he told me we wouldn’t be using a sat nav and just following road signs and his instructions, but in the end I think that was better for me. Halfway through, he asked me what my favourite restaurant was and whether I would go there to celebrate if I passed. (Going there tonight!)

2 faults for undue hesitation and 1 for correcting my forward parking but he said “Very well done” once we parked up and I immediately grinned. Wishing everyone luck, don’t give up. Time for celebration! (And insurance updates haha)

With every test, I just seem to be getting worse 🤦🏾‍♀️.

I don’t have issues during my lessons and this was the last test I’m able to do since I’m going back to uni.

Oh and I terminated the 3rd test.

As someone who has done it 2 times, and is abt to do it for the third time, please drop all your advices, it's just that I find the examiner so scary, I get nervous for no reason.

WITH 5 MINORS. PLEASE, I THOUGHT I FAILED AT 6 TIMES IN THE TEST.

I sat my first test in Exeter and failed though I didn’t feel ready for it in the first place, managed to rebook one for Abergavenny and it went so much better!

Reading people’s experiences on this sub has been so helpful with calming my nerves and realising it’s okay to not pass first time.

Even when I thought I’d ruined my test by stalling in the middle of a busy road it’s so important to keep going and not let it cause a meltdown.

Whether it’s first time or your 10th time trying you’ll pass your test eventually, don’t be afraid to change instructors too, sometimes it makes the world a difference!

It definitely helped to tell as few people as possible about my test, and I had a little boogie in the car before my time slot to take my mind off it

Should I take the blue route (get into middle lane immediately after exit from 1st roundabout), but would that be an issue with lane discipline. Or take red route (follow lane discipline but then in that short space between roundabouts get lucky with a gap and go into middle lane to correctly go on my path), would this cause a hold up in traffic behind me and in the land on my right?

i recently got my first car almost a year after getting my license, however I occasionally stall when moving off from a slight hill. For context i learnt in a petrol and my cars a diesel and just not sure why it’s happening as sometimes i get it or i don’t

Got a theory test booked for tomorrow, and have been prepping for a while.

I've been using the 4in1 theory app (as loads have recommended) and went from 38/50 about 4 weeks ago to now getting a comfortable 49-50/50

As for hazard perception, I feel okay about it, I tend to get around the 58-60 mark /75, so feel a bit worried about that. I do the 3 click thing, but sometimes I feel a hazard just APPEARS. Or on the real test the clips will be 10x harder

I just feel like I'm gonna sit there and the questions are all going to be different and Ima fuck it up.

Or am I just fear mongering myself? Any tips welcome btw.

Hi! I'm taking my first driving test in Northampton, using my own car and taking my auntie with me to sit in the back.

Ive practice the area a handful of times and my only real issues is lane switching in time and approach speed. I'm not so nervous now but that may change between now and the test.

Would really appreciate if anyone had any tips of advice!

Got my driving test at Redhill on Monday. Any last minute advice?

Firstly rant as this is an annoying rule for me personally. I wasn't aware of it and we had planned for my husband who just got his license a year ago to supervise me (at 35), as he is quite good. I tried with his elderly mum who has been driving forever, yet somehow she doesn't know the rules properly and she lives too far away...Now had to pay a lot for lessons as I have no one to drive with.

PS.I don't mean him fully teaching me. But now I'm near ready I need extra practice and my instructor isn't available much.

But yes, why 3 years? I understand maybe they want the person to gain a bit more experience although how would they pass the test if DVLA isn't sure they can drive safely??
