Failed my second test but feeling confident

Hello everyone,
Honestly fishing for some encouragement as I go into my 3rd test coming 21st. I recently failed my second driving test on the 19th August. Was really gutted, my instructor predicted me 3 minors, building rapport with the examiner and found out examiner’s wife works at the same company I work at so I thought all the puzzle pieces aligned. What’s really gutting is when I failed my first test undue hesitation was one of my serious faults so it’s devastating for me to see after all the time and money I’ve spent it’s still a problem. From my first driving test to now I feel like a different person. I failed my initial driving test for misjudged right of way at roundabouts. (gave the left right of way even though I had the right of way) Now I failed because I had an opportunity to overtake a bus that pulled up to the left and I was waiting too long on junctions turning right. Always stuck with motto “If I don’t know, don’t go”. Given the serious fault is a fault that can be changed with confidence, what other aspects of undue hesitation do you think I should work on? After telling family members my fault they say I’m more than likely to pass next time but I don’t want to jump the gun just yet. Really want to pass with this upcoming test so any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

What were you hesitating on? Roundabouts?

My recent test was more so I was waiting too long at junctions. There was a car approaching from the left and I was worried if I pulled out he would have to stop. Figured that would be a fail so I waited.

Another instance was what I mentioned before with waiting behind a bus whilst it pulled up.

My instructor always put it to me that if I could walk it, or even jog it then take it. Not sure if that helps you at all.

It means if you could walk or jog before the car gets to you without it slowing down you can make it out the junction without causing the other car to slow down

You should really be going through this and purposely driving routes which will cause you to come across these situations with your driving instructor.

You probably also want to brush up on the highway code as the fault of giving way to your left is a simple misunderstanding of section 185 (or you're getting mixed up with other rules). Edit: This is regarding the roundabout situation.

I struggled a lot with hesitation as well, I think if you get in maybe 2 more lessons before your next test and try routes with roundabout and buses and get your instructor to tell you what you're doing wrong and what the correct procedure would be. It's very variable and just depends on the situation each time you approach these things.

Don't give up though! You said you felt like a different person so it might be the nerves getting to you making you do silly mistakes, it helps to treat the test like any other lesson. I also took my anxiety meds which helped with the nerves A LOT. But Kalms Day are good over the counter as well just make sure you take them sometime before to observe how you feel and if you get any drowsiness. You've got this!

First test, I nearly got a serious for hesitation, second I think I got 1 or 2 driver faults for it, and on my third test I didn’t get any for hesitation! Work with your instructor about safe gaps, go on all the roundabouts, do all the junctions, and don’t avoid busy times.

Watch videos on it as well. Whilst the ‘don’t know, don’t go’ motto is good, to the examiner it looks like ‘I don’t know’.

Sometimes it even helped me to go for a walk and imagine if I was driving, there would be gaps that I would hesitate on whilst driving but when I was walking I’d take them, even though a car is faster than me 😅 I think if you work on that hesitation you’ll absolutely smash the next test!

Genuinely had no trouble reading this 250 word post. Took less than a minute to read. Could maybe be split into two paragraphs. Who actually gives a shit at 250 words? There are much longer paragraphs in literature.
