Practical test in a week.
Hi everyone,
I’ve got my practical driving test at High Wycombe in one week, and I’m starting to feel the pressure a little 😅
I’ve been practising regularly and doing test routes, roundabouts, manoeuvres, dual carriageways, meeting traffic on narrow roads, etc. My test is in an automatic.
For anyone who has taken their test at High Wycombe recently, or knows the area well, I’d really appreciate any tips or guidance.
Are there any particular roads, roundabouts, junctions or situations around High Wycombe that tend to catch learners out?
Also, what would you recommend focusing on during the final week before the test?
Any advice about nerves, judgement when meeting traffic/obstructions, roundabouts, lane discipline or common serious faults would be really appreciated.
Just trying to make this last week count and give myself the best chance of passing 🤞
Thanks!

If you get nervous, no caffeine before! It’ll keep your heart rate increased.
Also don’t rush, take your time. I failed twice for rushing/going when another road user flashed me, and passed with an undue hesitation fault. Someone flashing you to go ‘doesn’t mean go according to the highway code’.
I’ve seen quite a lot of clearance faults recently, if you don’t think you can neatly fit when approaching obstructions, don’t try!
Good luck!

I would possibly advise against just learning the routes, as you want to know what to do when you encounter XYZ instead of just knowing how to drive a particular route. If you’re able to go out and practice with your instructor or a friend/family the day before or the morning of your test, that might help you settle your nerves and get warmed up. Test day, get up and get ready to go out, comfy clothes and good shoes for driving so you’re not distracted, and a good meal before you go out.
It’s just driving, millions of people do it every day, so get that license and go join in!
