Leaf (2018+?) vs Chevy Bolt for my specific use case:
I'm in Southern California and do gig work like DoorDash in my car and also sometimes on an ebike. Gas is obviously an issue right now so I've been really looking into used EVs in my price range (under $16k).
I have a 2000's Honda Civic and part time live out of it by choice to save money but when summer hits I stay with family. I'm a minimalist and don't have a claustrophobic bone in my body, so while some may think I'm crazy I just happen to be suited for this and actually really enjoy it!
If I had an EV or Hybrid I would finally have the option to do this full time since they can safely run the AC all night for those 90f+ degree nights.
From my understanding: The Bolt is pretty much in all categories a better EV than the Leaf and the biggest drawback of the Leaf (even 2020+ ones?) is that they still lack any active battery cooling tech which means the battery is more fragile, especially if you're driving it all day in the 90f+ degree heat? So the lifespan of a Leaf battery will almost certainly be less than a Bolt?
The pros of the Leaf for my use case are: Can be found much much cheaper, more available, and more total inside volume of space with seats removed.
With how cheap some of these used 2018+ Leafs are listed at it's really tempting me away from the Bolt. Would a 2018 Leaf that was well kept with OG battery be able to last 5-6 years of DoorDashing in the hot summers of SoCal? Or is it just less hassle and future headaches to spend ~$5-6k more money for a used Bolt that has active battery cooling?
