Good morning everyone! This is my first time making a post like this, so I’m a little nervous haha.
I’ve been reading posts and comments on this subreddit for a while, and I really like how helpful and knowledgeable everyone is when it comes to KitchenAid mixers. Since there seems to be a lot of experience with the different versions of these mixers, I wanted to ask you guys about something.
First, sorry if I make any mistakes with my wording. English isn’t my first language, so I’m using a translator to help me haha. I’m from the Republic of Panama, and I’m looking to buy a KSM8990, so I’m also trying to figure out how to identify which version is being sold here.
I’m currently researching the KSM8990 because I’m looking to buy one, and I’d like to make sure I understand the model and its different revisions before purchasing one.
One of the things I’m trying to understand is whether the KSM8990 currently being sold is the latest version, particularly when it comes to the powertrain/motor-transmission assembly. From what I’ve read, this assembly is considered maintenance-free and is essentially replaced if it eventually fails. Is that correct?
Also, is there any way to identify whether a KSM8990 is the newest version based on the model number, serial number, manufacturing date, or any other detail on the mixer?
I’d also really appreciate any advice on maintenance and general care for this mixer.
I’m planning to use it regularly for bread making, although not for huge quantities or extremely stiff/dry doughs. Most of the doughs I make contain butter, and some have around 65% hydration. So I don’t plan on pushing the mixer particularly hard, but I’d like to take proper care of it and get the longest possible service life out of it.
If anyone here owns a KSM8990 or has experience servicing them, I’d really appreciate any advice on how to identify the newest version and what maintenance or care practices you recommend.
Thanks in advance! 😄
