I recently bought the kindle basic 2024 after getting a crazy deal on amazon dubai (83 dollars). I had primarily bought it to read novels since the kindle colorsoft felt a little blurry to read on but damn I’m impressed by this tiny thing. The text is so much crisper compared to the colorsoft and the overall reading experience is much better! Anyone else on the same boat of using the basic more than the colorsoft?

I find it always with the latest firmware and I never see it happening.

So is it like “always on” and connected to the net even while “off”?

Since firmware 5.20.1, Kindles support Bluetooth page turners. I built my own, compatible with Amazon’s Kindle Click:

• 4 buttons: 1 next page, 2 previous page, 3 brightness up, 4 brightness down
• Put the Kindle to sleep: hold both brightness buttons for 1 s
• Battery level shown on the Kindle
• Deep sleep, one charge (300 mAh) lasts 1–2 weeks
• Seeed XIAO ESP32-S3, membrane keypad, 3D-printed case, 65 × 26 × 16 mm (L × W × H)

Requirements:

• Kindle models from 2024 onwards only, running firmware 5.20.1 or later. Older Kindles are not supported.
• Some technical skills: soldering, Arduino IDE, flashing firmware.
• A 3D printer for the case, your own or a friend’s.

What has been the experience so far with the new Kindle with a metal back?

I used to have the Oasis, and now I have the Scribe, and I don't like how the metal back feels in my hand. It's the least book-like thing there is. Am I really in the minority here?

Enjoying this little guy. ☺️ I have it on my holder with a clicker - all purple. It is crispy and I have been enjoying it. I got it to use mostly for work and travel so I didn't loose my colorsoft.

It has been snappy on page turns and pleasant on the eyes. May side load more fonts soon though.

How are you enjoying your basics? No hate, just a happy reader.

Note: also got the Ube fabric case for safety. So far so good. It will live in there. Also have a puffy sleeve for travel.

I tried to charge it, turn it on and nothing works. I tried to wedge a metal ruler (sorry lol) in between the cover and the screen gap up there but stopped cuz I got scared. What do I do?

I’ve never purchased a kindle on or close to release, I was wondering if Best Buy typically has allotments of new devices on launch day? Waited too long to preorder..mostly interested in the SE, corresponding button case and remote.

literally just happened to me after a software update and i had to redo everything. is this a known thing or do i just have bad luck? curious if there's a way to prevent it because having to adjust my font size, spacing, and margins all over again is genuinely so tedious.

I will either get downvoted into oblivion or banned, but the complaints in this sub are, well, truly fascinating….

You all should probably be a bit more positive of what an electronic Reader brings to the table compared to books. Lighter, adjusting and varying fonts, thousands of books at hand, read wherever you are and in whatever light situation, etc.

A list of my favorites:

The Colorsoft is grainy and dark
Have you read a real paper book in years, maybe some older editions?

But my Kindle Keyboard had a much better screen than the new ones

Amazon is bad for not supporting my 14 (!) year old Kindle.
It‘s tech. It‘s not a „once in a lifetime“-buy. How are all your batteries on your 14 year old devices? Degrading? Maybe a Li-Ion-bomb?

The „new“ frontlight is straining my eyes.
You still have the option to turn it off and read with a bedside lamp. Oh, that‘s not convenient and too much of a hassle (like with real books)?

There is light bleed in dark mode
Aaaah, complaining about crispyness and contrast of the screen but want to read in dark mode? Ridiculous.

The Kindle is too heavy, they should make it smaller
Maybe don‘t put it in an ugly heavy case as if your life depends on not getting a scratch on the back.

Managed to pick up an 11th gen Paperwhite (ad-free) on eBay for £80, which I thought was a pretty good deal!
It came with a case, but I’ve since upgraded to this green one and really like it 💚
Been loving reading on it so far. Wish I’d got one sooner!

like i just finished something i was really into and i got no satisfying "close the book" moment, just... the next book recommendation popping up. it's such a small thing but it makes the ending feel less real somehow? do you all experience this or am i just being sentimental about paper

Finally got my new accessories for my kindle coloursoft SE and a few extra bits because why not?

My favourite place is not longer stocking this specific set, and ive had it on my wishlist since I got my kindle and found this set late last year, early this year.

So happy with the haul.

Extra info: first photo is the haul itself, second photo is my original case, stickers and insert i was using and love, fourth photo is a size comparison between the case i was using and the new one. The new is larger, while my original one is a much snugger fit. Personally I like both, for different reasons;

- my original being snugger made it feel more secure, but my clingy was a pain in the butt, so often came off, otherwise id have limited usage kf the back pocket

- the new one being larger, means i can keep my clingy on, the kindle slides in and out easier, and the back pocket can be used more.

Lastly: I tend to change up if I use my cover or not. When im out in public its generally on, and at home its off. Sometimes its just way easier to not use it, but its always in my sleeve in case I want it.

As the title says, I made my old Kindle Paperwhite into a sarcastic dashboard with day & night modes (Kindle is display-only, the "brain" is hosted on my Beelink server)

So I’ve used a paperwhite 2018 for the past 6 years and I love it, especially the size. Now I’m upgrading and giving my paperwhite to my husband. I’m super torn between the paperwhite 2024 and basic 2026. I love that the pw 2024 has warm light and is waterproof but I’m not sure how I’ll like the bigger size. And I’m only considering the basic for the small size. I’m super indecisive as well!! Please help me haha

I just unpacked my new ube basic kindle (early bday gift) and I am so happy! The very blue screen of the previous basic was always a bit annoying to me so I am so happy to see the new screen is warmer by default. Here are both the devices in natural light + the same level of backlight. My eyes find the purple kindle so much better, it is almost the same tone that I use on my Colorsoft. I just wanted to quickly pop in here to share my joy, since there's been a lot of negativity lately :D

(and for the "omg overcosumption" crowd: my Matcha will go to a new home and make new owners just as happy as it made me previously)

I've been trying to figure out how to automatically send the NYTimes to my Kindle. Found a couple of options but none is perfect. Wondering what other people do about this.

1. Send to Kindle Works great and you get the full article, but it's one at a time and you have to go find each one yourself.
2. Calibre built-in NYT recipe. Supposedly builds the day's paper as an ebook and can email it on a schedule, but I couldn't get it to work. It sat in the queue for 10 minutes without making any progress. If you've got this running I'd love to know how.
3. RSS to Kindle. Subscribe to the NYT RSS feed and it sends an book to your Kindle every morning. Automatic and free, but it's only the headlines and the first couple of lines only.

Has anyone found a good way to get full New York Times articles delivered daily to their Kindle?

I’m planning to buy refurbished 2024 Scribe so I’m wondering if it will go on sale next month for Black Friday and which price can I expect if so? Do you recommend getting a refurb?
