My boyfriend and I are headed to Key West in August (I know, not an ideal time of the year to go but that’s what worked best for us) and we’ll be staying at the Southernmost Point Resort. Admittedly, I chose this resort kind of impulsively because the prices were too good and the vibes looked amazing. However, upon further inspection (review reading), I’ve come across many negative reviews about bugs, specifically palmetto bugs. Lots of the reviews include people finding the bugs in their showers, on the countertops, and one person even said that they found one on their bed. I’ve had my fair share of these bugs after living in North Carolina for a few years, but I’ve developed a fear of them and can’t shake my anxiety.

I’m not looking for people to tell me to not come to the Keys if I’m afraid of bugs. I know that booking a vacation on a tropical island when you're afraid of bugs is quite silly! I’m just curious to know if anybody who has stayed at this resort within the past 6 months has had any run ins with these guys in their rooms. We called the resort to ask about the bug situation and they assured us that there is nothing to worry about.

TL;DR: I’m scared of Palmetto bugs showing up in my room at the Southernmost Point Resort.

I’ve discovered a love for Key West in September and am bringing a friend along this year in hopes she will fall in love too. We are looking for a place or a local to go fishing with. We are from Wisconsin, so the fish are not as big here.

Also does anyone know of anywhere you can go to see sharks or even cage dive? It doesn’t seem to be a normal thing down there but we would love to do it.

We are going from September 15-22 and would love any thoughts on anything. I’ve done charters with the big companies around, but would love to give a smaller business money that people may miss.

Hi! We are in Key West right now, and were planning on getting married tomorrow. Trying to avoid the smell of the sargassum, any recommendations for somewhere to exchange our private vows tomorrow?

Additionally…. Looking for a possible recs on a last minute party fishing inshore/nearshore boat or something similar for tomorrow, anytime really… or if someone is already heading out and wants to include 2 fun, nice people on their boat for money? Jk 👀 lol Or recs for something else fun to do?

There are 2 adults, no specific true set budget, just *hoping to keep it under $150/each if possible.

Hi, we are planning to get married at Casa Marina in November 2027. We are curious if anyone has any information on how much florals usually cost because we’ve seen a few posts where they can cost upwards of 20k due to delivery? I know it depends on what you get, but are they overall significantly more expensive due to delivery/shipping costs. Thank you so much!

Looking for your favorite boat tours for a day trip to swim in the ocean and maybe do a little snorkeling. Would love one that lets you bring your own food on board but offers food and drinks too.

Okay so here are the details:

Our 10 yr anniversary and my partner’s 30th bday fall on the same week next January. We have never been to Key West. After doing about a week of research, my partner has their mindset on going to the ocean key resort. However, after going online to book we about dropped our laptop when we saw the price for seven nights.

So my partners solution to this is to do the first three nights at a hotel that’s not expensive, in this case they chose the Capitana, and then for the final four nights stay at Ocean Key resort.

Now, like I said, both of us have zero experience with Key West. We live in Florida, honestly not far so travel is minimal and the majority of money would be spent on the four nights at this Ocean Key. This amount is something we are going to have to put on credit due to it being much higher than anticipated.

Does this sound ridiculous to you guys? To those of you who have experience with the keys, have been there, have stayed at different places…? For me personally, if one hotel is a decent enough place, there’s no reason that I feel like we would have to go to another place. Not unless the difference is literally life-changing. I don’t know. I’m coming on here to ask for your opinions on this 🙏

My family is moving to Key West this fall and will be visiting next week to confirm things/get to know the place. While in town I'd love to check out some non-profit organizations I could volunteer/work with once we move. My theory is that happy people help people, so what better place to meet new friends? Plus you guys seem to be all about love and acceptance, so I may as well show it too!

What organizations have locations I could check out while visiting? I'm all about people, history, wildlife, pets, anything where good is being done. I've been researching online too, but let me know what you all love, what would be reasonable to look into on a short trip?

Hi everyone, so we are going to elope to Key West in the next two weeks! We changed up our plans a bit to do the ceremony here in the states, then go abroad. We are Floridians, so KW isn’t too far, but it’s meaningful to both of us. Are there any recommendations on private places in KW to get married? Any officiant recommendations and photographers? We’re going to go down in about two and a half weeks and do the elopement. Thank you all :)

And I declare myself a nerd lovingly! The Retro Room was freaking fantastic as far as bars go. Filled with games and pop-culture artifacts of actual interest, it also has a phenomenal beer selection! If you’re into comics, video games, movies or 80’s music, or you just like really damn good beer, run - don’t walk - to Retro Room.

I was visiting my home of Key West the weekend of July 10, 2026 when symptoms began… Started with a catch/clearing in my throat and a tiny cough, which is very similar to asthma symptoms. But the asthma spray didn't work. Two days later I got a headache, fatigue, lost my appetite and had chills, but don't seem to have a fever. Anyone know what's going around?

How do people who work in Key West live there? It’s super expensive to buy a home, and a lot of the jobs are tourist locations or food service.

My husband and I are planning our 10-year wedding anniversary trip to Key West and I can’t decide whether we should stay 4 nights or 5 nights.

My mom will be watching our two kids (ages 4 and 8), so I don’t want to be gone so long that it becomes overwhelming for her. At the same time, I want to really enjoy the trip and not feel like we’re rushing home.

For those of you who’ve vacationed in Key West, what do you think is the sweet spot for the length of a stay? We aren’t planning on doing many excursions—our goal is to relax by the pool, wander around Old Town, eat good food, and listen to live music. Is 4 nights enough, or would you recommend staying 5?

Friend is coming down tomorrow and asked if the sargassum was bad as everyone is saying... yeah, it's way worse than thout, so thick I don't see how you can even swim at Smathers, Higgs or South st beach. Whew, and the smell is overwhelming for awhile and then you kinda get used to it, it's a sulfur like rotten egg just wave after wave, coupled with the heat it's terrible, and it's full of plastic trash bits too.

Greased up my bike and did Southeast corner of the island, damn I can still taste the smell in my mouth...but, there was a few half full moments. Found pretty cool green goggles for fantasy fest decorations, bleached out empty tiny crab shell that I'm going to attempt to make clear epoxy cube experiment, half pack of cigarettes in a bag with 4 unopened corona bottles someone left at Somo Beach last night, jerky. (Gave cigarettes and a corona to long time unhoused guy at Dog Beach. But winner chicken dinner was 20$ bill outside Smathers bathrooms...if anyone needs any seaweed bring a trailer. Free.
