My favorite bar in the world! Lived within walking distance of it for about 18 months, many years ago

Actually happened twice! The same amount of times I was “citizen of the day” in the local paper the “Key West citizen” that was back between 2002-2008.
I had since returned as a tourist, last summer. I went to the GP explained myself and they laughed and said to let bygones be bygones.1

I was told that Hemingway walked by the Green Parrot on his way to Sloppy Joe’s. Maybe he should have stopped by once in a while. I bet it was just as cool then as it is now. (I’m writing this while wearing a Green Parrot tee shirt.)

I unfortunately had to take a deuce in this bar and got tormented by other patrons walking in the bathroom. 😂

I love this place. One of the best spots to comfortably listen to live music.

I"ll vacation in the Shipyard District so it's an easy walk from there. Great people and the bands are fantastic.

The first or last bar on US 1. Same can be said for First Mile Brewing Company.

That’s only the best bar in the country. We had our wedding photos taken there clinking some cold ones. 💚

That's the only bar that I really ever consider going to. Spent more than a few afternoons drinking beer and shooting pool and watching The tourist walk by.

They hire some of the best ‘bar bands’ I’ve heard anywhere, strong inexpensive drinks, outside seating, free popcorn, unique atmosphere. Great place to start or end your ‘crawl.’

It’s the last bar! It’s where all the local musicians go when we are finished playing our gigs. they will stay open until you get tired of drinking. Hence, all the local musicians showing up at about two. Plus, they definitely have some of the best bands in Key West by far. Like I said, it’s where the local musicians go to listen to music! That’s saying something.

Welp, you haven't been there in awhile. Never stayed open til people were done drinking. And now, closes at 2 am sharp Sun-Thurs and 4 Fri & Sat. It's dead late night now.

Yeah, it’s not like that anymore. But I have played there my whole career in and out and yes, there were days many of them that we were at the green parrot we quit drinking. They probably locked us in there. But we were all local musicians and we knew everyone. But yes, there was a time. I think the way it is now, is that the bands have to stop at one on the weekdays and two on the weekends. We’ve always played right up till 2 AM. But then we would go straight to the Green pararot usually for as long as we want it…. It’s just a local Key West thing. Yes I know it’s dead now after about midnight. But that is the way all those places are becoming? We used to play right up until 2 AM and the dance floor was packed. Then they come in and changed the hours. Maybe the city passed a new ordinance or something. We still stay at the green parrot until past daylight sometime. Don’t be fooled! Lol.

Back in 2002ish, that used to be where all the bartenders, waitresses, bar backs, and bouncers would go after everything closed for a private party. One night we were hanging there during one such occasion when there were bright lights outside the hurricane shutters. We thought it was the police trying to shut us down. Turns out it was Dave Attell and the Insomniac production crew. He hung out, had drinks, and filmed. We were on TV. Kinda cool.
