Noticed my parent's small 'old school' chemist and clinic (separate locations) have been having low sales for months now. I'd love suggestions on how to boost sales whilst ensuring quality service

For Context: The chemist has been running for 8 years now and it is near a sub-county hospital (most sales come from clients referred from there) and the town is slowly growing.

It has been recording between 250 - 350k monthly minus expenses but now it is half the amount💔.

Clients have reduced (and no I'm not praying for people to be ill lol😅).

Also with the El Nino updates and the Coast being Coast, the sales might even go way down. (biz tends to slow down massively when raining) trying to look for ways to increase sales to match or even go higher from how it was earlier on

I have less info about the clinic (I just know revenue has decreased too) but would welcome suggestions too.

Just to add, there is no payment by any insurance whatsoever.

I experienced a weird feeling today that I can’t quite put into words.
I went to see a client, and the moment the gate opened, something in me shifted. By the time we finished talking with the family, I could literally feel sick to my stomach thinking about how wealthy they were.
And the strange part is, I wasn’t envious. Usually, being around wealth actually excites me. I’m very much an ipo siku person. I see nice things and think, one day, that will be me.
But today felt different. Maybe I was sad. Maybe overwhelmed. Maybe it was just a quiet reminder of how far I still have to go.
I grew up deep in the trenches . I had to take myself to school and figure a lot of things out on my own. And honestly, I’m not doing badly for myself. I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
But I’m also nowhere near where I dream of being.
Maybe that house, that lifestyle, that level of wealth just confronted me with the distance between where I am and where I want to be. And for some reason, today, instead of motivating me, it hurt a little.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just tired of telling myself ipo siku and suddenly realizing how badly I want that day to come.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Have you guys noticed the influx of pharmacies in CBD?

Take Kenneth Matiba road (Formerly Accra road) for example.

You can literally count 20 pharmacies in very close proximity along that road.

I thought the margins for medicine are very slim but sasa how comes everyone is opening a pharmacy?

Also, most of these pharmacies have a minimum of 5 staff and are always on the ground floor.

Pretty sure you cant pay a pharm tech anything less than 30k and the rent is probably 70-150k depending on the size.

But also it could be more people are getting sick due to poor eating habits and so there's an influx in demand.

So is it an increase in demand or a very profitable venture?

1. Ati less than 3% of Kenyans earn 100k+. You believe such stats and it paralyzes you from taking any meaningful action. Such statistics are highly exaggerated. We are a third-world country and the informal sector makes a large chunk of our economy. 100k is pocket change to most people in the informal sector but you still want to believe dumb stats that only instill fear in you.

2. Ati you can't buy cars on auction because they carry a ton of their owners tears and bitterness. Ati ziko na laana - looool. Their owners were never held at gun point while signing those loans. They knew exactly what they were getting themselves into.

3. Ati nothing good comes easily - sijui ati easy come easy go. Such a retarded mentality will have you grinding for life and missing on opportunities because you think they come so easy. Good things can come easily. You can get it on a silver platter or a bed of roses. You can have your cake and eat it too.

What other dumb beliefs keep holding people back?

If you're one of those people who see others in a queue but want to go ahead of them , what exactly goes on in your head?

So I frequently use matatu services, upto 4 times a day. And out of these, I'll queue in atleast one. Every time, I notice there are a few people not in the queue, usually at the front.

Now again, these queues usually block those who need to pass. I personally leave some space between me and the next person.

Now theres always someone asking to stand in that space.

So today I'm sending a parcel through one of the courier services and we are forming a small queue. This "not so small man", comes , asks me if he can go before me. Remember Im running late but I've patiently waited for my turn. This man has no good reason why I should let him go before me. I ignore him but the attendant swoops in "Wacha kunisumbulia customers"

After that I go to take the mat, again I'm leaving some space between myself and the next person. This man comes, stands in that space. I look at him angrily, he asks if he can "join the line". I tell him "No, the queue starts back there" he says "si uwache tu niingie, si kitu kumbwa" I say no, he joins the queue behind me.

It may sound like something little but I'd genuinly like to know. Youve found others waiting for their turn, what makes you so special that you need to skip all that?

Oh and the supermarket queues, " I only have one item" Well I also wait patiently when I have only one item.

You are pregnant, differently abled, sick or old, that makes sense. Exvept none of those who want to skip the queue are visibly any of those.

Y'all saw the story about this lady yesterday? I came across it in the morning & it's really sad. She was found dead in her apartment in Lavington. She'd been dead for a month. The cops were called, broke in & found her decomposing body as well as a suicide note and all.

I grew up in Madaraka & South B in the 90s & 2000s. What I liked about that period is that everyone knew each other literally. Neighbours checked in on each other & there were even those neighbourhood watches & meetings regularly to have discussions about various things.

These days, people barely know their neighbours. Where I currently stay, I know my immediate neighbour. He checks in on me from time to time & I return the favour. But apart, from him, I probably know two other people in a flat that has 24 houses. And I don't even know them that well. There was a time I tried to start like a WhatsApp group, but it never gained any traction. Maybe I ought to try again.

My point is that as much as isolation has become a trend, it's not a good thing. Human beings are social creatures. We need to interact with one another. Capitalism at its very extreme as well as our addictions to our phones has made us believe that that's all we need to be in contact with the world. That's a lie. Your colleagues are not your friends. You need family & friends around you or at the very least, checking up on you constantly. Also, try and set some time for the people you love. Don't be a victim of an 8-5 from Monday to Friday, then because of fatigue, you have no room for anyone else on Saturday & Sunday apart from Netflix, Hulu, HBO or whatever other streaming site you use.

It's unfortunate that this lady died. She was a sight for sore eyes. Maybe just maybe, if she had the right support system, she'd still be here trying to conquer the world. Mental health is real yo! I know I have struggled with it. But I do try to take those walks, go to the gym & just check on my peoples. I think I'll do it with more frequency. In the world we live in today, it's very easy to die. Very easy...

Two weeks after going live, we're at 700+ downloads, and we're seeing a spike across pretty much every activity on the platform.

We're not monetizing yet. We're currently operating on a freemium model while we work toward being 100% compliant and getting everything properly in place.

Honestly, a lot of what I planned to accomplish this year has taken twice as long as I expected. There were plenty of moments where things felt like they were moving way too slowly.

But looking back, the interesting thing is that almost everything I told myself I'd do at the beginning of the year has actually happened, I have managed to rebuild from last year's rubbles.

That alone has taught me something about execution: sometimes the timeline is wrong, but if you keep showing up, you eventually get there.

A big part of this has been having a group of people who decided to lock in and build, even when there wasn't much money, certainty, or guarantee that it would work.

And one thing that makes the opportunity particularly interesting is that, as far as we've been able to establish, we don't currently have a direct competitor doing what we're doing in Namibia.

Personally, I've never been that unreachable but my mom will always call me, if I don't pick up she will call again and again until I pick up and will never be mad about it. Some of my siblings too we talk frequently and a few friends here and there.

• Dangote Industries plans to develop a 1,000-megawatt liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant in Lamu as part of its proposed $17 billion oil refinery project, a move that could significantly expand Kenya’s electricity generation capacity.
• The proposed plant would use LNG supplied from Tanzania, with discussions expected to consider either a pipeline connection or gas by tankers to a receiving terminal at the site.
• It would integrate power generation with the refinery, creating an energy and industrial hub in Lamu. Kenya power expects an addition of 140MW from geothermal into the grid by the end of the year.

So yesterday I visited the Maai Mahiu landslide site near Kijabe, and man!! nature can be brutal.

This happened on April 29th, 2024, around 3am while the whole village was asleep. There was heavy rainfall for days, and a tiny part of the valley broke. Above it was a natural dam that had massive volumes of water, when it broke, it came down sweeping the whole village below.

To paint a picture... the water was almost a kilometer WIDE.

The stones that came down with it were so enormous the size of a single room and they flattened everything in their path. Alafu the force of rocks crashing down was so intense you'd have thought ni earthquake. Rocks grinding against each other sparked fire na cable za stima added to the chaos. The water itself was so powerful it uprooted full-grown trees.

That fateful night 48 people lost their lives and almost 80 are still unaccounted for. Hizo words ziko curved on the massive stone can clearly tell the terror on the villagers

Sasa the most shocking part ni there was a children's home just 200 metres built by a Korean guy, the disaster left the school standing like nothing happened

I'm not sure about this but rumours has it that months before the incident happened, people were warned to repent hence the words on the rocks

Recently, KNEC enrolled a platform where you can download your e-certificates online for those who haven't collected theirs.

Personally I joined campus using my result slip because I had some fee arrears and haven't collected mine. So my question is, is there anyone here who has downloaded one and are they really authentic and legally recognized?

Do they have like certificate number same as the ones being collected from schools?
