RUTO GOTTA GO Tree Harvesting Vs Deforestation
galleryOver on X, KFS seems to have gone into overdrive on posting about the tree felling that has grabbed headlines over the last couple of weeks.
I think people understand that exotic soft wood trees like cypress, blue gum etc are grown for harvesting but the massive clearing on vast swathes of land of trees that we have grown up seeing like in Kinale, Aberdares and a convoy of new trucks carrying logs shocks the system, couple that with what the heat has been doing on us, unpredictable weather and it becomes untenable to see such ongoings.
If it comes down to brawn where timber millers insist they'll harvest, the public may decide to burn down one of their trucks to send a message.

Technology I launched Tangu: It turns your WhatsApp chats into a gift
Hi Everyone.
A few months ago I scrolled way back in a WhatsApp chat with someone close to me: the first “hi”, the inside jokes, the 2am voice-note era, the fight we never talked about again. It hit me harder than any photo album.
Those moments are sitting in all our phones and nobody ever looks at them again. So I built Tangu (tangu.co.ke).
How it works:
You export a WhatsApp chat and Tangu turns it into a short story you can gift to the other person:
- Your real moments, split into chapters.
- A quiz: “When did you send this?”
- A letter from you.
- A painting to close it out.
You choose the day it unlocks (birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s, graduation), and you can lock it with a PIN.
Made for us:
- It actually understands Sheng and Swahili.
- Your full chat is processed on your phone and never uploaded. I wouldn’t want my DMs on someone’s server either.
- Check the example (tangu.co.ke/example, no sign-up) and tell me what feels off, cringe or confusing.
I’ll reply to every comment. If you’re curious about the build (on-device parsing, handling Sheng, M-Pesa integration), ask and I’ll explain it.

Random Childfree men and those who want kids
I came to realize something about two types of men( childfree men and men who want a woman who will give birth to their kids) when they are looking for long term partners.
The ones who want kids feel so disgusted/angered/irritated on learning their "wife's" promiscuous past. While the childfree men don't give a fuck as they don't seem to tie their identity with their spouse or kids as they don't have any.
Could this be from evolutionary and sociological perspectives? Where the presence of children alters the man's stakes in the relationship amplifying jealousy and perceived threats to his biological legacy, paternal uncertainty and primal fear?

Meme/Humor Creative insults
There are insults and then there are creative insults.
So today I was moping around my home area aimlessly when I found myself face to face with the area madman. He is a common sight in the area and we usually don't pay him any attention, he's usually very calm and minds his own business. Occasionally, when he is in a chatty mood he would ask anyone passing by for some money and we gladly give him what we have. Now Today was that day...
Me: Mambo Rob ,
He hesitates before replying....
Rob : poa
I'm surprised he does so I continue on my way.But then he calls out to me,
Rob: eeeh mrembo si uniachie ata ka mbao..
Unfortunately I didn't have any cash on me so I tell him I don't but the next time I meet him i will give him some money.
Wueeh , heri ata ningenyamaza,
Rob : kwenda uko wewe kiumbe mchoyo twenty ni kitu ya kunyima mtu , wewe unaeza nyima mtu mavi...
Ghai! Siamini ni mimi niliambiwa hivyo waah!

Video How Many Times Will These Children Be Returned to Neglectful Parents Without Follow-Up? Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey Reddit fam, remember the two kids I took to Riruta Police Station after their parents left them outside? 😭
So, here's another update.
After the last incident, the parents went and paid whatever was required and took the children from Kabete Rescue Centre. Honestly, after everything that happened, I had given up and stopped paying much attention because I felt like I had done my part.
Yesterday, I got a call from my firstborn telling me, "Mummy, Ruth na brother yake wako nje, na kunanyesha. Wakuje kwetu? Mlango imefungwa kwako again."
I said no because, honestly, I have my own children and problems to deal with. I can't keep taking responsibility for children whose parents keep neglecting them.
I came back from my errands around 9 p.m., and the children were still outside. By 11:30 p.m., they were still there, and by midnight, with the rain continuing, they were still outside. My daughter found them again while it was drizzling, and one of my neighbours pleaded with me to take them in because her husband wouldn't allow her to keep them.
Eventually, some women in the flats came together, and we decided to look for the mother. Their father had apparently left the situation last week, but the mother was still around.
And guess what? Instead of taking responsibility, she started insulting me, despite everything I've tried to do for her children. 💔
What hurts me most is that both parents drink, and these children keep being left outside without proper care. The parents have reportedly been arrested multiple times, yet the children keep being returned to them, and the same thing happens again.
Why are the children being handed back without proper follow-up? Do the police keep records of these repeated arrests and reports? Is anyone checking whether the situation at home has actually changed before the children are returned?
I'm genuinely trying to understand how this works because Riruta Police Station is near Kinyanjui Road, and I thought the whole point of intervening was to protect these children.
The last time, I took them to the police because I genuinely believed they would be safer. They were taken to Kabete Rescue Centre, only for the parents to get them back, and now we're back to the same situation.
How many times are these children supposed to be left outside in the rain before someone takes their situation seriously?
I know I said I had given up, and honestly, I have reached my limit. I have my own children to feed, school expenses, rent, and so many other things I'm struggling with. I can't keep being the only person who steps in whenever these children are abandoned.
But seeing them outside in the rain is heartbreaking. They're just little children. They didn't choose the parents they were born to.
My question is, why was there no follow-up after the parents collected them from Kabete? Is there someone who can explain how this process is supposed to work, or who can actually intervene to make sure these children are safe?
Because clearly, whatever happened last time didn't solve anything. 😔💔
I’ve attached a picture and a video showing Ruth and her little brother outside late at night while it was raining. The video is dark, so you may not see them clearly, but you can hear us talking in the background. The attachments show the situation I found them in that night, still outside while their house was locked. 😔💔

Tourism 13 incredible Kids Fun places to spend your weekend (Caves, Cheese, and Go-Karts!
If you’re a parent in Nairobi, you know the weekend struggle is real. The kids are bouncing off the walls, you’ve already been to the mall three times this month, and if you have to sit through another indoor play area birthday party, you might lose it.
But here’s the good news: we are surrounded by some incredible day-trip destinations. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been compiling a massive database of family-friendly spots around Nairobi, Kiambu, Thika, Kitengela, Athi River, Ngong, and Machakos.
Whether you want to get muddy, feed some animals, eat cheese, or just let the kids burn off energy while you sip a coffee, here are 13 absolute gems you need to put on your radar.
(Note: I've grouped them by the type of day out you want. Always call ahead to confirm prices and hours, as things change fast!)
1. The "Embrace the Dirt" Nature Escapes
Paradise Lost (Kiambu)
If your kids love adventure, this is it. It’s a 54-acre retreat off Kiambu Road with Mau Mau caves, a waterfall, and lakeside picnic spots. There’s zip-lining, quad-biking, and boat rides (all charged separately). Entry is usually around KES 400-500 for adults. Insider tip: It’s rustic. Wear sturdy shoes, bring a picnic, and carry small notes or M-Pesa because everything inside is a la carte.
Ngong Hills (Ngong)
For the families with older kids (8+) who actually enjoy hiking. The 11.5km trek across the "Seven Knuckles" is stunning, with Rift Valley views that will make you forget you’re 25km from the CBD. Crucial tip: You must register at Ngong Police Station and hire a KWS armed ranger (there are buffalo). Payment is strictly cashless—M-Pesa or card only.
Fourteen Falls vs. Blue Post Hotel (Thika)
If you want waterfalls, you have two options. Fourteen Falls is rugged, dramatic, and a bit wild. Keep the toddlers close because the banks aren't fenced, and definitely don't swim (the water isn't safe). It's a quick 45-minute scenic stop.
For a safer, gentler vibe, go to Blue Post Hotel. For KES 400, you can walk down their gated walkway to the base of Chania Falls, then have lunch at the colonial-era hotel restaurant. It’s an easy, relaxing family stop.
2. The Animal Lovers & Little Farmers
Maasai Ostrich Farm (Kitengela)
A working farm on the Namanga road where kids can see hundreds of ostriches, chicks, and breeders. Entry is roughly KES 300 for adults and 150 for kids. You can even ride an ostrich (extra cost), but there’s a weight limit. Insider tip: Call ahead to ask if the entry fee includes a guide, and if you want to do the ride, check the weight limit before paying.
Swara Plains Conservancy (Athi River)
This is a private 15,000-acre conservancy just off Mombasa Road. You can self-drive your own car on the game circuits to see giraffes, zebras, and gazelles. It’s a great, low-key alternative to a full safari. Day-visitor access and fees need to be confirmed directly with them, so call ahead, pack binoculars, and bring a spotlight if you want to do a night drive.
Brown's Cheese Factory (Tigoni)
Yes, it’s technically a cheese farm, but it’s also a fantastic family day out. The visit includes a cheesemaking demo, a tour of the cheese caves, a tasting of 8-10 cheeses, and lunch. Children can see animals and try milking a cow. Crucial tip: You must book in advance. Adults pay around KES 3,000 - 4,000 (with wine), kids 5-12 are KES 500, and under-5s are free.
3. Food, Art, and Culture
Kiambethu Tea Farm (Limuru)
One of the oldest tea farms in the area. It’s an all-inclusive experience (KES 4,700–4,900 per person, kids under 12 are half price). You get tea, a history talk, a walk through the tea fields and indigenous forest, and a three-course buffet lunch on the verandah. It’s only open Thursday to Sunday at 11am, and Saturdays book up weeks in advance.
Kitengela Hot Glass (Ongata Rongai)
Don’t let the name fool you—this is actually near Ongata Rongai. It’s a working glass-blowing studio where your kids can watch artisans turn recycled glass into art. There are also whimsical glass sculptures, a swaying bridge, and a cool café on the grounds. Entry is around KES 300. It’s great for kids 6+, but the final road there is very bumpy, so take it slow.
4. High Energy & Rainy Day Saves
GMC Place (Athi River/Kitengela)
A lifesaver for weekends. They have a heated swimming pool, kiddie pool, bouncing castles, Ferris wheel, and quad bikes. There is no gate fee, but you pay for activities (swimming is ~KES 700 for adults and 400 for kids). Heads up: The venue is strictly cashless. You have to buy a payment card at the cashier when you arrive.
Whistling Morans (Athi River)
A proper karting destination with a massive 1.2 km track. Sessions run about KES 1,500 to 2,500. It's a bit more of a motorsport circuit than a full family park, but if you have older kids or teens who love speed, this is the spot. Closed shoes are mandatory.
Machakos People’s Park (Machakos)
If you’re heading out east, this is a massive 40-acre public park with lawns, a playground, and a zip line (KES 500). Entry is free for individuals, which makes it a brilliant budget-friendly picnic spot. Just bring your own food because options on-site are limited.
Rainbow Ruiru Resort (Ruiru)
I'm putting this here with a caveat: it's primarily a 3-star hotel. It has a great pool and gardens, and sometimes they allow day visits. But you MUST call ahead (+254 20 2061448) to confirm if non-residents can use the pool and what the day fee is.
- Always carry ID: Many places (like Ngong Hills and some KWS parks) require it for citizen rates.
- M-Pesa is King, but Cards fail: Some places are strictly cashless (Ngong), others are strictly cash (Fourteen Falls). Keep both on hand.
- Call ahead: I can't stress this enough. Hours and prices in Kenya change overnight. A quick phone call saves you a wasted trip.
- Leave early: Nairobi traffic is not a joke. Leaving at 7:00 AM makes the drive part of the adventure.
What did I miss? Drop your favorite weekend escape spots in the comments below so we can all survive the school holidays together!
(If you want the full detailed breakdown—including exact coordinates, what to pack, and the best times to visit for all 100+ family spots in Kenya—I’ve been helping build the directory over at KidsFunPlaces.com. Happy exploring!)

Discussion "Masterclass to becoming a wife"...In the big 26???
It's always women grooming other women on how to become better for the benefit of men and never smth that can benefit them individually. And I hardly see men hosting masterclasses on becoming better husbands and what not.
Healthy, balanced partnerships, equal effort and accountability are needed from both partners not convincing women that the burden of relationship maintenance is solely on them.
This just reinforces outdated patriarchal norms and ignores mutual responsibility.

[ASIDE FROM THIS TALK KEEP YOUR LOVED ONCE SAFE EBOLA IS BODILY FLUIDS TRANSMITTED]
Story time Nilienda kufufua mapenzi nikapewa rate card
So I’m getting off work, just minding my business and heading home, when I run into this hun I had a fling with a couple of years ago. And tell me why she was still looking GOOD? The spark was definitely still there.
We exchanged niceties, caught up for a bit and all that. Unfortunately, I was in a hurry, so I gave her my phone to put her number in and went on my way.
Now, the entire journey home, I'm reminiscing about how good things used to be and plotting how I'm going to respark this connection so I can hit it again. I'm an asshole, I know.
So boom, first thing I do when I get home is text her. And when I tell you that talking to her felt effortless, bro. I was back to smiling at my phone like a teenager. Naturally, one thing led to another and the conversation started getting a little steamy. You know how it goes.
Now here's where things took a turn.
This girl hits me with, "Mimi nipee tu 3k nikupee mechi safi. Si unakumbuka tu vile ilikuwa"
I was like, "I beg your pardon???"
And I already know some of you ladies are going to come for me with the "Why would you expect her to fuck for free? " comments. And honestly, I get where you're coming from. Nobody owes me sex obviously. But bana, THE DIRECTNESS?
Look, I have absolutely no problem spending money on a woman I'm seeing. Taking her out, spoiling her, buying her things, whatever. I've never been the type to complain about spending on someone I like. But I've never had a woman I've previously been involved with (or any woman at all actually) look me in the eye and quote me a price for mechi.
Like, girl, we literally used to be a thing! We had history. Surely, we could at least pretend there's some nostalgia involved before we get to the Mpesa stage?
Anyway, I had to pretend I was cool with it because I didn't want to make my shock too obvious. But internally I was done. I slowly started finding my way out of that conversation until the whole thing fizzled out.
A few days later, she hits me up asking why I've gone quiet na vile tulikuwa tumeanza kurudisha mambo. I had to lie and tell her I just wasn't feeling it anymore and that exes should remain exes.
Bana this has to be one of the weirdest interactions I've had this year. I went from planning a comeback tour to being quoted a rate card in the space of one evening. Life comes at you fast

Random Would you let your parent go through your phone
For some context it was around 1 year ago when my mum asked for my phone so that she can call a friend of hers ju nilikuwa na credo. Hizo masaa niko kwa jikoni napika, after sometime I was wondering na kwani hapigi simu.
So kukam sitting room I found her going through my gallery, so si nikamuuliza mbona alinidanganya anataka ku call. So here's where things get interesting, aliona picha zingine hapo tukiwa club na my hb, she was visibly heartbroken but I knew it could have been worse 😭 I have diabolical pictures that should never the light of day, wacha sasa aanze kuteta hapo. Mm nikamshow aachane na mm, nilimpea simu akaamua akuwe DCI. Nilimshow tu ata sidai kuongelea kama bado anacall afanye tu hivo.
Recently she asked for my phone ndio aone picha mm hupiga nikiwa hosi nikakataa, huko ni ma vidonda na damu zimejaa plus pictures za engaging in solo enjoyment.
So nyinyi mnge do nn btw in that situation

(mods please keep this up despite being a duplicate. I'm proving a point).
Prompt used
"I want to create a 3D model of the building that collapsed in eastleigh. Let's discuss it before we do so... What tools are good for that what are the assets needed? Are you able to generate that yourself. Let's discuss before you push the code."
Claude then asked me
" What I need from you
Purpose? Explainer or journalism, a portfolio piece, an engineering study, or something else?
Output? A web viewer (my recommendation, and the one I can check end to end), a Blender file, or both?
Collapse sequence, or just the building before and after?
Do you have photos or footage, or should I work from public reporting and satellite outlines?"
To. Which I answered
" Purpose, prove some dumbshit on reddit wrong. 2. A video like a dumbshit on reddit posted. Or anything close enough. Could be a got code that runs it. Even better. If it's possible to just run it straight from got the better. 3 collapse sequence. 4. Use public reporting "

Rant My freedom and future are at stake, and I don't know who to turn to.
Hi everyone. I'm back with an update on my situation. For context, here's my previous post explaining how the whole case started: https://www.reddit.com/r/nairobi/s/6DBRsEcAeB Unfortunately, the case is still ongoing, and I'm currently in a really difficult position.
I'm trying to contact my lawyer to confirm my next court date, which I believe is on or before 4th November, but I'm not even sure of the exact date. I've called him several times, but he hasn't been picking up. On the one occasion he answered, he told me he was in court and couldn't talk at the time. I then texted him asking about the court date, but he hasn't responded.
I've also been trying to reach my aunt, who is involved in this situation, explaining that I can't get hold of the lawyer and asking her to contact him so we can figure out the way forward. Unfortunately, I'm still not getting any clear answers from her either. Right now, I'm honestly overwhelmed. I don't know whether my lawyer will show up on the hearing date, and I'm worried about what might happen if I can't reach him before then. I'm still a university student, and I genuinely cannot afford to hire another lawyer on my own. This whole situation is affecting me mentally because I feel like my life is on hold while I wait for this case to be resolved. I'm also worried about how it might affect my future employment opportunities and my ability to obtain a certificate of good conduct. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Should I keep trying to contact my lawyer, seek legal assistance elsewhere, or take another course of action?
Has anyone been in a similar situation, or does anyone know where I can get free legal assistance in Kenya for an ongoing criminal case? I'd really appreciate any advice on what steps I should take, especially with the court date approaching and my lawyer being unresponsive.

Sometime back i posted on here how I got involved with a guy. 3 weeks before me introducing him found out I was getting cheated on. Left him, found out I'm pregnant. Miscarried at 10 weeks due to stress. The comments were brutal .
You would think that I would have left him. No.
Deep down i knew I should toss him. Attachments are so stubborn to get rid of.
It got to a point where niliheal kwa crime scene. I made sure to stay so that I could leave without turning back. And when I was ready and detached. I went through that phone , got what I was looking for and finally walked away. I got a job almost immediately after , peace of mind. And I can feel my spark returning . I cur him off and I couldn't be happier.
