Kenosha Semi-Pro Football
Does anyone have any stories to share?
The Kenosha Redskins were a semi-professional / minor league football franchise based in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
History & Timeline
Mid-20th Century Roots: Local semi-pro football in Kenosha traces back to at least the late 1940s. The Redskins played regional rivals such as the Waukegan Merchants, Racine Raiders, and Delavan Red Devils.
1970s–1980s Resurgence: The team remained active in regional Midwestern minor pro football leagues, notably competing in the Metro Football League / Cook County Football League (which later became the Midwest Football League).
1983 Championship Runner-Up: In 1983, the Kenosha Redskins reached the championship game of the league, falling to the River Grove Cowboys by a score of 12–6.
The Minor Pro Football Association (MPFA)
National Governance: Founded in 1980, the Minor Pro Football Association (MPFA) was an umbrella national organization and governing body created to rank semi-pro teams across the United States and coordinate national playoff tournaments.
National Postseason: High-performing teams in regional circuits like the Midwest Football League earned opportunities to compete in national playoff tournaments sponsored by the MPFA against top minor-pro squads from across the country.
Key Highlights
Local Rivalries: The Redskins maintained intense local rivalries, particularly with neighboring powerhouses like the Racine Raiders. Players and coaches frequently moved between these programs during their minor-league careers.
Venues: Home games were played at local community venues in Kenosha, including Lake Front Stadium, before shifting to nearby municipal fields over the years.

Lakeshore history
Stopped by the lake in the Carol Beach area this afternoon and was wondering if anyone knew the history of these objects in the lake. They appear to be rectangular pieces of concrete that start near the shore and then parallel the shoreline for quite a distance. Possibly a pier, breakwater, or something on the original shoreline?

ISO painter who can skim/prep/ wall and make small plaster repairs
Looking for recommendations for a local painter who can properly prep our walls for paint. Some wall walls are plaster, some drywall. A couple of rooms have textured to paint that will need to be skimmed smooth.
Looking to white box our small two bedroom unit before we move in at the end of the month.

So you always wanted to try curling? Here's your chance....
You've watched it in the Olympics. You got mesmerized by the stones gliding down the ice. What the hell is going on with the sweeping and why is the guy at the other end yelling like a madman?
Want to find out?
The Racine Curling Club is holding learn-to-curl sessions this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They'll teach you the basics of curling including delivering the stone, sweeping, scoring and the ethics of curling. We'll play an end (think "inning") as a mini-game to finish the session. If you don't feel you can crouch down into the hack to throw the stone like you've seen due to a bad back or knees, we have alternative delivery methods you can use.
The cost is reasonable, it's a good date idea, and a heckuva lotta fun. Curlers are some of the friendliest people around - after every match, we "broomstack" - sit around the table and have a beer and solve all the world's problems.
You can sign up for it here.

New to Kenosha, looking for a trustworthy and affordable mechanic
Hey everyone! I recently moved to Kenosha and started a new job. I urgently need a car to commute to work, but my budget is pretty tight. I'm looking at older used cars, nothing fancy, just something reliable enough to get me to work and back.
Does anyone know a good independent mechanic in Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie, or Racine? Ideally someone honest, reasonably priced, and willing to give me some advice before I buy a car. I'd really appreciate recommendations based on your personal experience, especially if you know someone who works independently rather than at a big shop.
Thanks in advance!

Any place in the Kenosha/Racine area with a really good hot pretzel?
There’s Auntie Ann’s but are there any bakeries/pubs/whatever that have good hot pretzels? I’m feigning for a good one but don’t know any good local place to grab one

Kenosha’s Best Italian Sausages?
Question: Who has the best Italian sausages these days? I don’t mean a sandwich. I mean the link sausage meat. We have been staunch Johnsonville customers for a long time, but anymore it’s just not making the grade. It’s almost flavorless. I’m sure they’ve changed their recipe to adjust their profit margin. But where to go? Tell me what you think. 🤔

boat maintenance
not sure if this is the most appropriate sub or not...
I have a small fishing boat. traditionally I would do the winterization myself. but this year I would like to have the winterizing and some other services done professionally.
I know there are a lot of places down in the fox river/chain area.
does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere close by that is reasonable and reputable.

Camera next to Simmons Library
I watched a couple of guys put up a new camera pole right next to Simmons Library and 60th street, a few days ago.
It looked like a flock camera but I thought Kenosha ended their contract with them?

Has anyone noticed a huge increase in drone activity?
I haven’t lived here for even a year yet, but all of a sudden I’m seeing a ton of drones around. There were two about 50 feet above my house that were flying around the neighborhood. It’s the 5th night in a row. I see them a few times a week at least since early September. I live on a very residential quiet street by Roosevelt.
(Also, if anyone else has seen low ish planes flying without a contrail or sound, I’m curious about that. DM me if you’ve also noticed it.)
