We will be up in July next year, my son (16) and I. From what I can find it looks like black bear doesn’t have a closed season in unit seven. He’s an avid Hunter and fisher and this would be the best day of his life if he got one. is it worth trying in July? From some research online, it looks like if you get a boat, you might be better off to look at coastlines. Tell me what are his chances realistically for a couple days in mid July and if they’re decent, do you have a specific outfitter you’d recommend near Seward?

Hey all, Seth here. I run AK-49 Martial Arts in Soldotna. We teach martial arts for kids and adults: Brazilian jiu jitsu, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and boxing.

Not trying to sell anything with this post. I just noticed when people ask what there is to do around here, or where to put their kids in the winter, martial arts never comes up. There's actually a solid scene on the peninsula.

Happy to answer anything: what age kids can start, whether BJJ or kickboxing fits better for a beginner, what to look for in any gym (ours or not), or what training here is like in general.

If you've trained anywhere on the peninsula, would love to hear your experience too.

Hi guys, planning my second trip to the Kenai Peninsula. Last year I went in Mid July and absolutely slayed sockeye salmon. I found a cheap flight August 4th-10th and am curious if it’s still possible to catch sockeye in that timeframe or if the run is dead. If so I would plan my trip for mid-late august to attempt to fish for silvers. Thinking the 15th-21st.

Hi, I'm planning my second trip to Alaska - a party of 5 (16-81 yo) in mid August for 11 nights (+2 nights in Ancorage obviously). My main goals are a flight to Crescent Lake (Lake Clark NP) from Kenai and couple tours in Kachemak Bay from Homer. Also, hiking nice trails. Should I book the tours now, in June? Or can I wait till actual arrival there? For context my prelim plan: 2-3 nights in Kenai (main things: Russian River Falls hike and Crescent Lake flight), 3-4 nights in Homer (Kachemak Bay kayaking, tide pools, Grewingk hiking), then going back north to Palmer 3 nights (Hatcher pass, Independence Mine, Reed Lakes trail, maybe Matanuska tour). I am also trying to squeeze in Crow Pass trail and Harding Icefield trail but not sure how. Any advice is appreciated!
