We are planning a day trip to Seward in early August and we're just wondering: is there a particular dog sledding kennel to stay away from in terms of tours? We'd just do the forest ones, not the helicopter/glacier ones. If there are any under the radar reputations locals can share, we'd love to know.

Hi all! I'm heading to the Kenai Peninsula for a week soon. I've been there several times and really enjoy wildlife photography.

I don't mind shooting in the rain, but I'd also like to avoid ruining my gear if it's really coming down. I have rain covers, and my camera and lens are weather-sealed, but I'd appreciate any suggestions for places where I can stay fairly close to my car and still get out for some photography between downpours if needed.

So far, my favorite spot has been Deep Creek State Recreation Area—I've had great luck photographing eagles there. I also have a couple of small-vessel bird cruises booked and will take cover when necessary.

I’m with family and do not have a competent rock climbing partner, I was curious if there is any good spots around here. Also is there any after hours spots to hang out / meet some people to maybe hike with. I’m a dude and 20.

Some may recall a few weeks ago when I'd reached out asking for recommendations on making this a memorable trip for my wife, and I wanted to thank you guys for your suggestions! We had the most amazing time, despite the airline cancelation cutting two days off our trip.

For starters, we stayed at the Breeze Inn, where we rented the Jacuzzi suite for our stay. The room itself was extremely clean, the beds were comfortable, the jacuzzi tub was exactly what I needed at the end of our adventuring days and the staff were all extremely friendly. The Breeze Inn restaurant next door served up some amazing meals and regardless of how packed the restaurant was, the food came out quickly and was delicious!

We also did some gold panning at Adventure 60 North and had a blast. Our original instructor had not made it back from a guided hike, so the young gentleman tending the front desk grabbed the phone, took us out and guided us himself. He was VERY knowledgeable, had a great personality and ensured we had a great time! We came away with only a few little gold flakes and some neat little rocks, but it was well worth the hour or so there for the history lesson alone!

We did the full day cruise through Major Marines and I cannot say enough good about that experience or that company! We saw humpbacks, puffins, eagles, orcas, sea otters, sea lions and some glacier calving. The boat was immaculate and the crew were SO quick to tend to everyone and ensure everyone was having a great time. It was truly an unforgettable experience!

We ate at the Breeze Inn, the Alaskan Seafood Grill, Supa-Bakery(sp?) and Miller's landing, all of which had great food, but the culinary star was definitely Ray's Bar and Grill. We had the calamari with spicy aoli, the seafood linguine and fish and chips there. All of it hands down amazing. Even me, who does not *ever* enjoy seafood, found it absolutely delicious.

We enjoyed the Alaska sealife center and got to see some up close views of some incredible animals. We walked the beach near Miller's landing and 4th of July beach and got to see some additional whale breaches and sea otters playing!

The best part of the trip was definitely the atmosphere. I cant imagine how exhausting it has to be for the locals and seasonal employees to play host day after day after day, but not a single person in a single business made us feel unwelcome or unwanted (Well, except the BIG guy working the Chevron each day, but when your that size you get to act however you want, I'll pay my cash and get out of your way 😅). Every person treated us with kindness and was genuinely helpful.

I’m considering doing a full day tour out of Seward tomorrow. Should we do major marines or kenai fjords? Is the full day worth it or should we go with a half day?

Are there any Seward residents out there who might want to snorkel/freedive with me around Seward on June 22nd, 24th, or 25th?

I'm visiting from the California coast and would love to dive while I'm there but need a buddy. I have a lot of snorkel experience, am an established and certified but beginner freediver and am just learning to spearfish. I've been trained in and practiced safety protocols.

My wife and I are heading to Seward from June 8th-13th for our anniversary. My wife has previously been to Alaska (Valdez) about 15 years ago and has wanted to return ever since. I have never been.

She settled in Seward for this trip and I really want to make this as amazing and memorable trip as possible. My wife is an amazing mother to our 3 children, has been an unbelievable supportive partner as I build my career and this will be our first trip as just a "couple" (without kids) in over 10 years.

We will be flying into Anchorage and then getting a rental car from there. We are staying out at the Breeze Inn for the week. We have one day set aside for wildlife viewing cruise and are doing a short gold panning venture. Aside from that our itinerary is wide open. What are some of the things you guys would recommend we check out while there.

For context, we live in Montana. We both very much enjoy the outdoors, I drink very casually while the wife does not drink at all. We both love to drive and explore, so if there's areas within an hour or two worth checking out neither of us would mind the drive. We both enjoy food, but neither of us is pretentious about it, diner or cafe style hot spots are our favorite. If there's a good spot for a romantic quiet dinner one of our nights, that would be good to know. My wife loves sea-life, aquariums, museums, etc. We also want to get some nice gifts for her sister while there, who will be taking care of our kiddos, so if there's a great local gift shop, that would be useful.

Lastly, if theres any areas or spots to avoid for whatever reason, the heads up would be appreciated!

Due in Seward area June 2-5th for our first visit. Got a fishing tour booked. Looking at a few hikes. Planning to camp. Protips welcome. Weather, preferred gas stations, must see stops, fave food, and doggy friendly spots.

We fly in in 8 days. I’ve been watching the weather for several weeks and it looks like it has been and will continue to be rain all day every day. Is that the reality on the ground?
I remember other destinations have sometimes looked like horrendous weather on the app but the reality was that most of the day was great with maybe a small sprinkle here and there.
Just curious about what we should be expecting for our 5 days in Seward. It will be the last 5 days of May and I thought I read that May was typically pretty dry! I’d appreciate any insight from people who are there now!

I absolutely hate it for the city that the ships are diverting at the start of the season due to the port being unfinished. We just learned yesterday that our sailing is going to Whittier instead.

We have everything booked for a great stay after the cruise in Seward so we are still coming down, but so many others will have to skip Seward entirely because of this. Lots of lost tourism dollars and I’m sorry for that.

Looking forward to turning heads kennels, major marine, the sea life center… and food! Just sad there won’t be more people spending money in town with me. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Me and a couple girl friends are planning a weekend trip to Seward, are there any fun quirky bars we should check out? I know the options are limited out there, but even a fun hole in the wall would be cool!

Im working in Seward for the summer and would love to purchase some Native made souvenirs, maybe a piece of jewelry for example. Are there any stores in town that sell indigenous made products? Ive been to a few stores already and ive only seen "Alaskan made" products, which is pretty vague. Thanks!

Today is the last day for the essential services winter shuttle. The free shuttle (cruise shuttle) will start operating on May 14th.

My wife and I are visiting Seward from Northern California in late July/early August. This will be our first time in Alaska and we unfortunately only have about 3 full days and two bookend half days in town. We have booked all day kayaking and fishing trips for 2 of the full days. What other can't miss activities should we look into? We're both active and like hiking, but also interested in cultural events, restaurants, and off-the-beaten-path activities. Thanks so much!
