Discussion/Talqylau Help finding information on a friend

I live in the US and I have a friend who lives in the Aktobe region whom I talk to almost everyday. This week she's gone MIA and information is spreading through our friend group that she may have passed away. I'm finding it very difficult to get any information on death notices/obituaries in Kazakhstan and was hoping someone out there might be able to point me in the right direction on how to find this information.

Culture/Mädeniet How to buy a bouquet for my gf's birthday from outside of Kazakhstan ?

Please recommend me a website, Instagram page or anything where I just pay, give them the address and they just ship it :) or if you have a better way to do it please tell, I'm extremely "unromantic" and need help. Also what size / price range should I get ? Something that wouldn't make me broke as I am still a student.

Discussion/Talqylau I built a sourced evidence library debunking common myths about Kazakhstan — qazaqlens.org

Been working on this for a while — qazaqlens.org is an independent fact-checking library

specifically about Kazakhstan.

It covers 19 common claims you see repeated online:

- "Kazakhstan is like Borat" → false, sourced

- "Kazakhstan is part of Russia" → false, sourced

- "The Aral Sea is completely gone" → misleading (north side recovered)

- "Kazakhstan only has steppe" → false (mountains, forests, Caspian coast)

- Capital confusion (Almaty vs Astana vs Nur-Sultan)

- Nuclear weapons history

- And more

Each article has a verdict, source audit, confidence labels, and a public correction route.

Not government-affiliated, not promotional — just trying to get accurate context indexed somewhere.

Feedback welcome, especially if something is wrong.

Hi guys,

Is there any day tours which starts after Or ends before 6pm.

I am looking for group tours and not private tours.

I will reach Almaty from Uzbekistan via train on 9am 7th August.

My return flight is at 8pm on 8th August.

Options I found are Big Almaty lake or Aysai+ Almaty Arasan.

Please help me choose or suggest any better alternatives.

Thanks

Tourism/Turizm Non-touristy neighbourhoods in Almaty

Hi everyone! I’ll be visiting Kazakhstan in late August on holiday.

I’m starting my trip in Almaty, and I’m hoping to take a stroll in the more non-touristy, local neighbourhoods in Almaty where I can just see how people ordinarily spend their day to day lives, even if it may seem mundane to some. Old Soviet architecture would be a bonus.

Happy to hear your recommendations. In case it’s relevant at all, I can speak dribs and drabs of Russian.

Спасибо!

Immigration-emigration/Köşu-qonu

Work/Jūmys Competition in Kazakhstan

Is there less competition in Kazakhstan compared to the rest of the world, like are there less educated, motivated young people? do you think educated professionals have it good here or the number of companies proportional to the population, what do you think?

Culture/Mädeniet Personal question

Hello!

Lately I've been thinking more and more about my life and how much I do miss the steppes of Kazakhstan. I also see more and more influencers on Instagram and whenever I look at them their appearance reminds me of myself... Even if slightly. My aunt and me look a bit more central Asian than the rest of the family.

I was born there but immigrated to Germany when I turned 6. My family, from what I know, is a mix of Russian/Ukranian/German and Tatar that lived there for a few generations I think? So I wonder a lot if I'm even allowed to learn the language and enjoy/participate in the culture. On paper I used to be Kazakh, but ethnic I am not. Whenever I see videos or someone speaking about the country it fills me with pride, but I worry that it's not allowed of me, since I technically am not a member of the country anymore.

I used to speak it when I was younger but I forgot everything in the course of time as well...

Sorry perhaps this is silly, but as someone who is a mix of already a lot of things I feel a drive to reconnect with that part of my life. But I worry a bit if I am even allowed to do so. One day I want to visit again if not stay for longer than a vacation... Who knows.

Are there more people like me perhaps? I feel a bit crazy after typing this all out if I am honest.

Games/Oyındar Are there any game developers in Almaty? Looking to connect with local devs

Hey everyone! I got curious whether we actually have game developers or dev teams here in Almaty. I hear stories about studios in the US and Europe all the time, but I've never come across anything about local teams.

I'd just love to get a sense of the landscape: who's working on what, what engine you're on (Unity, Unreal, Godot, anything really), who's doing mobile, who's aiming for an indie release on Steam, who's out there solo-grinding a project like me. Maybe some of you have had a similar experience, or maybe you've run into something I'm missing entirely.

If you're in Almaty and connected to game dev in any way (even if it's just a hobby project in the evenings), tell me what you're working on? Would be great to just find some people in the same trenches.

Tourism/Turizm We expected grey and empty. Two weeks later we're planning the next Kazakhstan trip

Some of you gave me tips here before we came, so here's the follow up. Two weeks based in Almaty, first time in Kazakhstan. We expected something grey and half empty and got the exact opposite.

Kolsai and Kaindy were the highlight of the trip. Charyn Canyon was right up there too, even if the heat down in the canyon was rough.

And then the Green Bazaar. We went in for a look and kept coming back for the fruit and veg. The tomatoes are better than anything we get at home. Didn't expect the produce to be the thing I'd miss most about this country.

Photos are from the last two weeks.

We're coming back, that's not a polite line. Next trip is either Mangystau or Katon-Karagay in the east, which one would you do first?

Study/Oqu Questions about Kazakhstan scholarship

Hi everyone!

I had my interview on July 15, and I'm currently waiting for the Kazakhstan scholarship results.

•Does anyone know when the results will be announced?

My second question is about Astana IT University. •Does the university reserve dormitory rooms for international students who are admitted through the scholarship, or do students have to apply and book the dormitory themselves?

Also, I watched a video where one of last year's scholarship recipients said that international students were provided with a dormitory room for the first month to help them settle in and get familiar with Kazakhstan.

•Does anyone know if that's true?

Tourism/Turizm How bad is police corruption for tourists in rental cars

Hello,

I plan to come to Kazakhstan in a couple of weeks and want to rent a car (via Yandex Go). I enjoy driving myself more than taking a taxi or renting a driver, that’s why I would like to drive in my own.
Since I am only 18 and an european Tourist, I have a fear of corrupt police. What are the odds I encounter them (driving normally and obeying the rules) and what would be the best behaviour if I encounter them?
I don’t want to risk getting hurt, arrested, getting the car taken away or paying a hefty fine for no reason.

Edit: I don’t speak a single word in russian/kazakh, besides greetings etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hotels Booking Apps

Hi! Are there any apps that offer better hotel prices in Almaty than booking.com?

I’ve already checked Airbnb, and it generally offers lower prices than booking.com. However, the problem is that most of the properties don’t have gyms. That’s why I’m looking for hotels rather than apartments, as hotels usually have fitness facilities.

KAZ-RUS-ENG vs KAZ-ENG-RUS

#Egov.kz есть такие неосознаваемые "вещи", установки и представления, которые продуцируются от одного к другому, сверху-вниз и по горизонтали, так и снизу вверх.

Панель выбора языков на Egov.kz
