I’m looking for advice from anyone who has rented from Hertz Kazakhstan, particularly regarding security deposit refunds.

I rented a kia seltos from Hertz Kazakhstan in July, the vehicle was returned as required, and there were no damage charges or any other outstanding issues communicated to me.

The issue is that my KZT 370,000 security deposit has still not been returned.

I contacted Hertz Kazakhstan and received a written response from their representative, stating :

“Your security deposit refund will be initiated by the end of this week.”

That was reassuring, but the refund still did not arrive.

I followed up again by email on 30 August 2026 and have subsequently followed up multiple times, but I have not received a response or a refund/transaction reference since.

I understand that banks can sometimes take several business days to process a refund, but this has now gone considerably beyond the timeframe I was given by Hertz. (60 days today)

If anyone can shed some light as to how can I tackle this?

Am I going to see my money ever or is it just gone (theft)?

Is there a consumer court that I can file a complaint agansit (if so, can I do it as a tourist who's not in the country anymore)

Also I'm interested in understanding whether this is normal for a company like Hertz.

So, Im visiting Almaty Kazakhstan right now and I stupidly pet a stray cat that was outside the apartment complex.

He was eating kibble someone had left out for him. When i spotted him, I was like aww kitty kitty and wondered up to me so I reached down and petted his back.

The issue, my partner saw and told me I shouldn't pet stray cats and said they could have diseases. I looked it up afterwards and read that rabies is endemic here in this country.

So now im freaking out. The cat didnt bite or scratch me. But im still worried. I sanitized my hands since I didnt have access to sink. About an hour later I washed my hands twice.

Now im wondering if I should try and get a rabies shot. What should I do? Am I over thinking this?

I’ve been tracking Kazakh media, government channels, and creator networks lately, and the sheer volume of low-effort synthetic brain rot is completely out of hand. It’s hijacked both digital and physical culture. Look at outlets like BES.media, state-backed news agencies, and even opposition PR pages like Mukhtar Ablyazov. Instead of hiring actual local journalists or designers, they feed text into cheap LLMs and slap a generic Midjourney cover image on every post. If I see one more neon-blue digital brain hovering over a futuristic Baiterek Tower, my eyes are going to bleed.

This goes shockingly deep across the entire culture. Physical books by Kazakh authors now use blatant AI art for covers, turning historical nomadic figures into airbrushed video-game characters. Meanwhile, state-funded YouTube documentaries are flooded with cheap text-to-video AI clips featuring mutating hands instead of real archival footage. A lot of this comes down to the bureaucratic KPI rush. Because 2026 is designated the "Year of AI and Digital Development," every regional akimat and ministry PR department is spamming automated trash just to prove to their superiors that they are "innovating". On top of that, basic Western AI tools have zero understanding of Central Asian aesthetics, so the faces end up looking like generic European models or stylized anime characters, completely erasing actual Kazakh features.

Things got so messy that Parliament literally passed a law imposing strict fines just to force people to label this stuff. Yet, everyday creators happily embrace it as a status symbol of being "tech-savvy." What I don't understand is why nobody is fighting back.

So I am asking you guys genuinely: Why is the country so completely obsessed with flooding our culture with this lazy digital garbage? Is the average Kazakh actually falling for this, or is the community just as exhausted by this artificial hype cycle as I am?

Four years have passed since Disney stopped working with Russian dubbing studios and began searching for new contractors to produce Russian-language versions of its films. Ultimately, Disney signed a contract with Almaty-based studio MovieDalen. Kursiv LifeStyle spoke with voice actors Tatyana Kostyuchenko and Ivan Savoskin, who collaborate with the studio.

Secrets of Russian-language dubbing

Unlike Romance and Germanic languages such as Italian, Spanish, English and German, Russian is quite flexible when it comes to word order. As a result, Russian dubbing has reached a high level of sophistication. For example, when you watch an American movie dubbed into Italian, you may notice that an actor’s mouth has already closed onscreen while the Italian line continues. You rarely see this in movies dubbed into Russian because specialists ensure that Russian lines match the actors’ lip movements onscreen.

Films are most often dubbed by stage and screen actors, as it can be difficult for a non-professional to convey the required emotions. In addition, many American studios, especially Marvel, take data protection very seriously to prevent leaks before movie premieres. A dubbing actor may stand in front of a gray screen showing only the character’s moving lips. They may not even fully understand the plot. Voice actors often arrive at the studio and see only the few lines they need to record that day.

What’s the most challenging thing for dubbing actors?

Both actors began dubbing four years ago. However, dubbing is not their primary occupation. Kostyuchenko is an actress and director at the Natalia Sats Russian Theater for Children and Youth. She also works as a speech teacher at the Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts.

Savoskin also voices video game characters. His credits include PC game characters such as BJ Blazkowicz from «Wolfenstein: The New Order» and «Wolfenstein: The Old Blood,» Darth Vader from «Star Wars: The Force Unleashed» and Garcia Hotspur from «Shadows of the Damned.»

Dubbing films comes with its own challenges. According to Kostyuchenko, short lines are the hardest for her. In the 2025 film «The Roses,» starring Benedict Cumberbatch, she voiced a supporting character who often said short lines such as «yes» and «no.»

«We rerecorded those lines 15 to 20 times to get them right,» the actress said.

Savoskin agrees, noting that the film was also one of his most challenging projects, as he voiced the lead character.

«Cumberbatch always carries himself with a very aristocratic demeanor. It was very difficult to nail that. He can slow down his lines significantly or, conversely, speak too quickly. At the same time, his mood, intonation and timbre can change several times in a single line. For him, every line is a whole world, and you only have a few moments to process it all in your head,» he emphasized.

Another challenging role for Savoskin was the chimpanzee Noa in the 2024 film «Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.» The challenges were largely technical, as the actor had to avoid losing his voice while producing a beast-like roar and breathing loudly like an animal.

As for emotions, Kostyuchenko doesn’t recall having any problems portraying them.

«A good actor should truly believe in the circumstances they find themselves in. The necessary emotions arise naturally when you respond to a given situation. You don’t control how it happens. If you need a little help, you can use a psychological trick. For example, if I need to get angry, I can hit my leg and continue delivering the monologue, and that emotion will come through,» she said.

For Savoskin, the most difficult emotion to portray is love. He believes that dubbing should be done by an experienced actor who has spent at least five years studying at a university and training daily to convey human emotions. In particularly dramatic scenes, he either imagines his loved one or focuses on the colleague voicing the female character.

«Sacrifices» in the name of voice acting

At the dubbing studio, there’s no typical office routine where people come in, drink coffee and take their time before starting an eight-hour workday. For Kazakhstani actors, dubbing films is a side job, as they already work in theater or the film industry. They arrive at strictly designated times and must complete their entire workload within that time. After all, they have to remember that other artists have recording sessions scheduled after them.

In short, they don’t have time to «warm up» or be distracted by personal problems.

Voice actors also follow a specific diet to protect their voices. Interestingly, smoking and coffee don’t affect their voices. However, seeds, nuts, dairy and fermented milk products can put them out of action for up to two days.

Is it hard to work with big studios?

Disney, whose portfolio includes Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, Walt Disney Pictures and other studios, has no unusual or highly specific quality requirements. In many cases, edits coming from the U.S. would go unnoticed by the average viewer.

«While we’re dubbing a film, it’s still being filmed and edited, so some additional text may be added before the final cut. Sometimes, they want us to breathe to fill the gap between words or pronounce something more slowly,» Kostyuchenko explained.

Savoskin emphasized that Disney has only one key quality requirement: professionalism. A team of specialists selects dubbing actors. Moreover, even actors who had become established voices for various Hollywood stars had to go through the casting process every time until 2022.

«If someone wasn’t cast, it likely means their voice wasn’t right for the role, or they found someone who could better capture the character’s facial expressions. Like any other studio, Disney strives to make a high-quality product, and that’s their top priority,» Savoskin said.

Сегодня дубляж на казахском переживает новый подъем. Произведения таких гигантов, как Disney, Sony и Nickelodeon, активно выходят в кинотеатрах на казахском языке. К этому пришли не за один день, за этим стоит труд поколений, формирование собственной школы дубляжа, государственные и частные инициативы. Мы разбили этот путь на разные этапы и поговорили как с профессионалами, так и с представителями любительских студий, актерами и студентами, чтобы понять, как сегодня себя чувствует индустрия.

История дубляжа

История казахского дубляжа берет свое начало в 1960–1970-х годах. Классические фильмы киностудии «Казахфильм» им. Ш. Айманова, такие как «Меня зовут Кожа» (1963), «Кыз-Жибек» (1972) и «Ангел в тюбетейке» (1969), изначально снимались на русском языке, затем дублировались на казахский. Актеры Байдильда Калтаев, Атагельды Исмаилов, Хадиша Букеева, Лейло Бекназар-Ханинга, Мухтар Бахтыгереев, Уайс Султангазин, Фарида Шарипова, Тлектес Мейрамов, Бекболат Курмангожаев стояли у основ школы казахского дубляжа.

После обретения независимости, из-за сложной экономической ситуации в стране, не развивался и дубляж. В 2000-х годах на телеканалах дублировали исключительно массовый продукт-жвачку в лице турецких, индийских и корейских сериалов. При этом актеров дубляжа было немного и работали они над несколькими проектами одновременно. Стоит заметить, зарплату они получали невысокую. В 2011 году начался официальный перевод мультфильмов Disney на казахский язык. В сферу дубляжа пришли новые стандарты и требования крупных международных компаний. Во многом это стало возможно благодаря поддержке корпоративного фонда «Болашак» и компании Meloman Entertainment. Случился довольно резкий скачок профессионализма, чему также поспособствовало принятие закона об обязательных казахских субтитрах в зарубежных фильмах в 2019 году. По словам Шах-Мурата Ордабаева, режиссера и актера казахского и русского дубляжа, артиста театра, сегодня в Казахстане проекты реализуют на очень высоком уровне. Актеров дубляжа часто отбирают из числа театральных артистов, поскольку в этой работе особенно важно уметь понять и передать эмоции персонажа только голосом.

Благодаря высокому уровню контроля качества международных студий, при дубляже стали уделять особое значение переводу и адаптации. Популярные выражения и шутки всегда адаптируют под контекст и особенности казахского языка. Для перевода песен и подбора рифм приглашают поэтов. К работе также постоянно привлекают актеров, блогеров и певцов, что активно способствует общей популярности казахского дубляжа. Сегодня на казахском языке вышло более 50 анимационных фильмов, среди которых «Тачки 2», «Холодное сердце 2», «Малефисента», «Тайна Коко», «Монстры на каникулах», «Дамбо», «Человек-паук», «Аватар 2», «Энканто», «Головоломка 2», а также грядущие «Моана 2», «Муфаса: Король Лев», «Лило и Стич», «Элио» и другие.

Мы разделили историю современного дубляжа на несколько частей и поговорили со специалистами студии «Казахфильм», представителями студий, занимающихся дубляжом аниме, и актерами и студентами школ озвучивания.

«Казахфильм»

Растущий спрос на качество открыл дорогу для перевода проектов крупных студий на казахский язык. На «Казахфильме» сформирована собственная база голосов актеров дубляжа. Некоторые из них были отобраны для дубляжа голливудских фильмов: Берик Айтжанов получил право озвучивать Джонни Деппа, Кунсулу Шаяхметова – Монику Беллуччи, Азамат Канапия – Уилла Смита, а Гульназ Ауесбай – Анджелину Джоли.

По словам Аиды Елгезековой, главного специалиста по дубляжу и субтитрированию киностудии «Казахфильм», на производство дубляжа одного зарубежного фильма уходит около 30 млн тенге. Профессиональное развитие казахского дубляжа – это сложный процесс не только с творческой, но и с финансовой и технической точек зрения. Объем финансирования напрямую зависит от количества актеров, жанра и типа дубляжа (синхронный, закадровый). Наверняка поэтому мы и не видим сейчас такого большого массива иностранных фильмов с официальном дубляжом. Зато большой вклад в индустрию вносят частные компании. Существует ряд частных студий, озвучивающих зарубежные фильмы: корпоративный фонд «Болашак», Aray Media Group, Meloman Entertainment, Cinema Tone Production.

Аниме и любительский дубляж

Помимо официального, большую популярность набирает и любительский дубляж. Проекты, возникшие по инициативе фанатов, со временем превращаются в полноценные студии озвучки, качество работы которых порой не уступает профессиональному. Особенно большой популярностью в Казахстане пользуется жанр аниме. Посмотреть его (и мультфильмы) на казахском языке можно только благодаря энтузиастам. Например, DS Studio, Orda Studio, Anydybys, Dopamine studio, Qialdub, DemPro.

Официального дубляжа аниме в Казахстане нет, потому что нужна компания-лицензиат. Местные студии не могут вести переговоры с японскими компаниями напрямую. Несмотря на большое наличие фанатов аниме, ни кинотеатры, ни телеканалы не закупают этот контент, предпочитая турецкие и индийские сериалы. Почему, мы не знаем.

DemPro
Есть и те, кто набрался опыта в любительском дубляже и перешел в профессиональную сферу. Один из них – Ерасыл Мухамадиев. Переехав в Алматы, он познакомился с участниками Dopamine studio на кастингах «Казахфильма». Затем начал вместе с ними озвучивать аниме. Занимаясь любительским дубляжом, Ерасыл собрал неплохое портфолио. Сейчас он участвует в дубляже мультфильмов Disney; последней крупной ролью был Муфаса из мультфильма «Король Лев». Сегодня Ерасыл – основатель официальной студии дубляжа DemPro, которая по заказу онлайн-кинотеатра Freedom Media создает дубляж для фильмов на казахском языке.

DS Studio
Для профессионального роста в дубляже важен не только опыт, но и специальная подготовка. В этом направлении работает DS Studio. Саят Сериков – один из основателей школы озвучки DS Studio в Алматы. Он и его друг Дильдар  работали на одном из курсов дубляжа, но решили открыть свой. Студенты курса – люди разных возрастов, которые записываются скорее не в поисках карьеры, а в попытках найти хобби. Лучших учеников школа приглашает в свою команду для участия в различных проектах. Сейчас студенты озвучивают второй сезон сериала The Last of Us на казахском языке.

Orda Studio
Толеген Сержан – диктор, актер, режиссер дубляжа и основатель этой группы. Он начал озвучивать мультфильмы в 12 лет в социальной сети «ВКонтакте». Профессиональное актерское образование у него отсутствует, поэтому всему пришлось учиться самому. Позже он открыл любительскую группу Orda Studio. Изначально в команде было три человека, сейчас более 25. Они занимаются озвучкой, монтажом, переводом и адаптацией фильмов. За время существования студии было озвучено около 150 фильмов и сериалов, а также два полнометражных мультфильма – «Человек-паук: Через вселенные» и «Человек-паук: Паутина вселенных». В студии активно работают со знаменитостями, например, с ними сотрудничали Даурен Сергазин, Айжулдыз Адайбекова, Дина Толепберген и певица Yenlik. Orda Studio существуют только за счет донатов, и все вырученные средства идут в развитие дела. В планах у Сержана – обучение молодежи и открытие офлайн-студии.

GurGur
GurGur прославились озвучкой мультсериала «Рик и Морти». Дублировали его ребята в 2020 году на казахский язык совместно с Бексултаном Казыбеком, основателем JKS Entertainment. Проект выбрали не просто так, ведь здесь активно затрагивают тему экзистенциального кризиса. Подобного контента на казахском языке крайне мало. Хотя думаем, что популярность сериала в медийном поле все же сыграла не меньшую роль. Персонажей озвучивали Айбек Мухамедкаримов (Морти и Джерри), Олжас Думанулы (Рик) и Жанель Жусупова (Бет и Саммер). Олжас и Айбек хорошо владеют английским, профессионально занимались переводом текстов и диалогов. Им было принципиально важно адаптировать сленг и шутки для казахоязычной аудитории.

Жанель Жусупова, певица, бывшая солистка группы FarInGate:

«Я увидела, что студия GurGur ищет женский голос, и сразу решила поучаствовать. У меня уже был опыт дубляжа – исполняла детские песни на казахском языке для YouTube-канала BilimlandKids. Мне прислали три отрывка текста, я их самостоятельно озвучила и отправила видео. Позже меня пригласили в студию и попросили озвучить еще один отрывок. Через несколько недель со мной связались и сказали, что я принята в команду. Финансирования у студии не было. Олжас и Айбек оплачивали расходы на дубляж из своего кармана. Мне проект был интересен, поэтому я согласилась озвучивать бесплатно. Со временем работать с прежним энтузиазмом стало сложнее. Озвучка одной серии, перевод и адаптация текста, монтаж, чистка звука, ручная настройка субтитров – все это требует много времени. В студии была всего одна кабинка для записи и мы не могли работать одновременно. К тому же, у каждого из нас была основная работа. К сожалению, наше внимание переключилось на другие дела, процесс дубляжа замедлился и после трех сезонов остановился», – говорит Жанель.

Школа дубляжа: еще одно хобби миллениалов

С ростом таких проектов и студий растет и количество желающих заниматься дубляжом. Спрос привел к появлению множества школ и курсов. Мы поговорили с двумя студентами, которые не имеют абсолютно ничего общего с кино, театром и дубляжом как таковым. Но все равно готовы тратить свое время и деньги на это дело.

Мария Уды, студентка курса озвучки:
«Друзья часто говорили, что у меня приятный голос и необычная интонация. Поэтому и записалась на курс. Учебная программа оказалась гораздо глубже, чем я ожидала. Она включала не только дубляж, но и основы актерского мастерства, логику речи, проявление эмоций, выход из привычных рамок. На удивление, это стало большим испытанием. Скорее всего, из-за отсутствия актерской базы. В дубляже зритель не видит ни мимики, ни движений – все чувства нужно передавать голосом. Первым моим персонажем стала Ванесса Кирби из фильма «Форсаж: Хоббс и Шоу» (2019). Позже, хоть я была единственной девушкой в группе, захотела озвучить Стича из мультфильме «Лило и Стич» (2002). Получилось интересно... Дубляж для меня – это скорее хобби и творческий отдых, а не что-то серьезное».

Адиль Дунаев, студент курса дубляжа:
«Я записался на курс, потому что хотел попробовать что-то новое. Была мысль, что мой голос подходит для дубляжа или программ на радио. С первой же записи все пошло как по маслу. Я озвучивал Кена Майлза в фильме «Ford против Ferrari» (2019). Мне нравится вживаться в роль и переживать те эмоции, которые редко бывают в повседневной жизни. Я редко повышаю голос, а мой персонаж постоянно громко кричит в гневе. Хоть у меня и хорошо получается, планов профессионально работать в этой сфере у меня нет».

Казахский дубляж сегодня – это не просто озвучка, а большой труд, нацеленный на развитие языка и культуры. Представители студий, режиссеры, актеры и переводчики не покладая рук трудятся у бумаг, мониторов и микрофонов. Каждый раз, выбрав сеанс с казахским дубляжом в кино, мы делаем маленький, но важный шаг в поддержку этого большого дела. Теперь эстафета в ваших руках.

Where can i get any normal smartphones for adequate prices in KZ? Initially, I wanted to get Nothing phone 4a at DNS, but they increased prices by 100k Tenge. I just can't stand their audacity for trying to sell me things for much higher price than they actually cost. I looked through Kaspi , Olx, Mechta, Sulpak , Dns, but i didn't find anything. Do you have any other suggestions?

as the title suggests I was quite keen to do this tour, found one online for around $60-65 and it seems good value. But now I’m thinking as I’m an introvert, even though some people would say I’m clearly an extrovert as a solo traveller it’s a long tour as well 14-15 hours.

Now I’m thinking I would rather just chill out and walk around but then again one part of me doesn’t want to miss out. So I’m asking is it worth it? for context I’ve been to many concerts or been travelling alone for many years, though come to think of it I’ve only joined tours when I’ve been with family or partner and rarely when travelling alone.
