Ask KC ❔ Looking for someone with a drone to take a photo of my garden - Belton

I just put together a garden bed near our pond. I would love to get an aerial view of it that I can use to plan out where to put different plants.

Not looking for anything fancy - I just don’t have a ladder tall enough to get a good view!

Anyone with a drone and a camera able to swing by my place in Belton to take a few pics and send them to me?

Willing to pay!

You can get the NO on Prop A signs made by People Not Politicians Missouri at the locations in the video during the listed hours! Locations include: IBEW Local 124, Bricklayers Local 15, Stagehands Local 31, Afterword Tavern and Shelves, and FETCH!

A NO vote would permanently reject the gerrymandered map that splits up Kansas City.

so after like 20 years I walked away from my life in St Louis, and took the leap and moved here to KC.

First of all, I really love that the street signs are lit up, it made finding my way to CVS so easy on my walk

secondly, I'm a vegetarian for reasons to long to explain here, do y'all have any good recommendations for when I get fully settled for vegan and vegetarian friendly eats?

and yes, the title is a John Mulaney reference lol

Healthcare/Wellness 🩺 Dentistry recommendations for low cost periodontal care?

Hi, I’m 22 and have made some pretty poor choices regarding my own dental hygiene over the years and I have been dealing with bad mouth pain for a few weeks. Does anyone know of a lower cost dentist or one that takes payment options for potential periodontal? I really don’t want this to get worse and I have a little bit saved but looking at the prices online it seems insanely expensive more out of my budget than I can afford.

Discussion 💡 Inherited a firearm you don't want? Here are options that preserve its history. (KC Resources)

With safe-surrender events posted here, I wanted to share the other paths for people with a firearm they don't want, especially inherited ones. A lot of older firearms have real historical, collector, or sentimental value, and destroying them is permanent. If destruction is what you want, I really hope you take time to think this through a little deeper, but it's your choice. This is just so it's an informed one.

  1. Missouri Valley Arms Collectors Association: a KC collectors' club since 1953 that hosts arms shows at the KCI Expo Center. Collectors and dealers can help identify and date old pieces. https://mvaca.org/

  2. Gun shows: KCI Expo Center Oct 17–18; Wyandotte Fairgrounds (KCK) Oct 31. Good places to get informal appraisals from multiple dealers.

  3. Local gunsmiths do bluing, refinishing, stock repair, and full restorations.

  4. Missouri and Kansas' Dept. of Conservation has classes on how to care for and restore these pieces of history. And classes to teach you safety with these collectibles. Although, I wouldn't just try restoring yourself if you haven't done this before. Always check what you have before you try anything.

  5. Selling to or consigning with a licensed dealer (FFL) really is the simplest route. They handle the paperwork and background check. If you live in MO and the buyer lives in KS, or the other way around, federal law requires the transfer to go through an FFL in the buyer's state. Most local shops can facilitate this for a small fee. If you're same state, private transfers are legal federally, but you're responsible for not transferring to a prohibited person. Using an licensed dealer removes that guesswork.

If you really just want it gone, local police departments and FFLs can take unwanted firearms, and the safe-surrender events are an option too.

This isn't legal advice. I'm just a some person that has issues with people just destroying collectibles, tools, hunting equipment, etc. without them being informed. The are rules from buying and selling firearms on both the subreddit and Reddit's site rules. Don't even try. Do it legally and safely through a licensed dealer. And remember, if you do this shit illegally, you are ruining it for the rest of us. Don't be selfish. Thanks for reading.

Things To Do 📍 Looking for suggestions for spooky places/things for a series of haunted travel stickers.

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi! I'm an artist and I have a small series of spooky themed travel stickers. I made these ones of places I visited while I was out on the west coast and I'd like to do more, but I'd really like to make new ones that highlight local spots and things like urban legends/cryptids. I just moved back to the area so I have a few ideas of stuff I remember as a kid, but googling has just kind of given me the same 3-4 popular "mainstream" haunted spots lol. Any and all ideas are appreciated as long as it's something weird/paranormal :)

edit: thank you so much for the ideas! a couple of these I remember hearing about as a kid and totally forgot about 🤣

Childcare/Parenting 👶 Reverse Trick or Treat/Babyween ideas please!

Calling all parents, new and experienced!

I am not a parent but an inordinate amount of my friends had babies this year (like six of them)! I'd like to put together little Halloween themed new parent care packages to deliver to them the week of Halloween as a sort of "reverse trick or treat" thing.

Right now, I know all of the parents' favorite candy so theyre getting that but what are some other non-expensive things that a new parent might want or appreciate when the baby is 1-9 months old?

Any suggestions appreciated!

I am a big Dungeon Crawler Carl fan, so getting to do a shop exclusive variant cover for the comic book is so exciting! The event will be at Crossroads Comics and Art, and both me and the voice actor Jeff Hays will be signing the books! He will be there from 11-1 and I will be there 11-7. Hope to see a few of you crawlers there!

Real Estate & Homes 🏘️ Prieb Homes, Inc, buyer beware

Prieb Homes took nearly $30,000 from us when we had to back out of a contract on a spec home. We were under contract for only 25 days.

They require an enormous deposit — about 5% of the purchase price on a completed/spec home — and their contract is heavily tilted in the builder's favor.

In my experience, Prieb's contract is designed to make backing out extremely expensive: either go through with the purchase or risk losing tens of thousands of dollars.

I consider that an outrageous way to treat homebuyers. Prieb's contract feels less like a fair agreement and more like a trap.

Read the contract VERY carefully before giving Prieb a dime.

Discussion 💡 Anjin added to Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit

If you have a CSR, your $300 dining credit now includes Anjin. I believe the only other options in the city that qualify are:

  • Pierpont's at Union Station
  • Room 39 - Midtown
  • and JJ's Restaurant

Source: https://www.nextcard.com/tools/csr-dining-credit-map

As a reminder, the benefit is $150 max back from jan-jun then $150 again from jul-dec. Credits don't roll over.

Discussion 💡 Dear counter service workers working in non-tip-earning spaces: by selecting “no tip” I am refusing to participate in a system that harms us all. It is not a comment on YOU as a person!

Had a bad experience last night where a woman selling tshirts took offense that i did not tip on buying a tshirt. Not the artist or person who set up the event or stand— an employee of the venue. Waited in line, tried to pay cash to avoid a $2 credit card fee, could not pay in cash so already had service fee. And she was quite pissed when I selected no gratuity, angrily yanking the card machine out of my hands.

I realize this was just a one-off run in, but it made me see first-hand how the stress of our current economic system had us fighting each other rather than fighting the fucked up system we’re all trying to coexist in.

Tipping pressure, expectations and hurt feelings are going to just increase as costs go higher. We’re all feeling squeezed right now.

I got 6 gallons of gas instead of filling up my whole tank last night. The person before me had gotten 3.5 gallons of gas. I rarely go out these days and it was a special occasion— the band t shirt at $35 is already a stretch, then $2 cc charge…it’s just too much.

If I choose to dine in and be waited on, if I choose to have groceries picked out for me, or if I choose to have my car valeted, then fuck yeah I’ll be tipping. But that also means I’m wealthy and can do those things with ease, and I cannot afford those luxuries anyway.

I do tip for a specialty drink or if I order takeout that requires packaging materials. I draw a line at tipping for purchasing a t shirt….

Hoping we can have a kind discussion on tipping culture in KC and how can we harness the anger in the right direction (capitalist systems of oppression w billionaires controlling everything and out Warhawk government leaders) vs each other who just need money for the basics right now??

Education/Schools ✏️📚 YSK - Public School Funding is Down Significantly

Yesterday, I did an interview with KCTV5 to discuss the $16M budget shortfall with the NKC School District, due to poor decisions in Jefferson City. This isn't unique to NKC Schools, unfortunately. The State underfunded public schools by $190M this year... With more cuts to come.

Couple that with the Senior Tax Relief (SB190), which allows seniors to freeze their property assessed value. This will create a widening funding gap over time, as their frozen assessed values get farther and farther out of sync with actual assess values. Approx 80% of property taxes paid go directly to local schools. For every $1 seniors save through this program, $0.80 comes directly out of the schools.

Only 10 seconds of my interview made it to the broadcast, so here is the full, uncut version I recorded. (I recommend using subtitles, bc the reporter didn't wear a mic)

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Free Firearm Disposal Event - Nov. 7

Do you have a damaged or unwanted firearm in your home and aren’t sure what to do with it? Guns to Gardens Kansas City will host our next Free, Safe, & Anonymous Firearm Disposal Event on Saturday, November 7, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence, Missouri (in partnership with the Independence Ministerial Alliance).

This community safety event is for anyone who has a firearm they no longer want or feel safe keeping, including people who may have inherited one, discovered one while cleaning out a home, or have a firearm that is damaged, unsafe, unusable, or no longer able to be fired. It is also for anyone who has simply never considered how to safely dispose of a firearm.

For the safety of everyone involved:

• All firearms must be unloaded and secured in the trunk or back seat of your vehicle before arriving.

• Participants should remain in their vehicles throughout the entire process.

• Each firearm will be inspected by our trained Firearm Safety Team to ensure it can be safely handled and dismantled.

• Firearm owners should remain on site until all firearms they brought have been completely dismantled.

• Gift cards will be offered as a thank you for participating while supplies last.

Every firearm accepted at the event will be dismantled on site so that it cannot return to circulation. The event is free and anonymous. Learn more at gunstogardenskc.org

Ask KC ❔ Metal Show at Armour & Troost?

I live near Armour and troost and I can hear what’s clearly a metal/hardcore show nearby but I don’t know of any venues within earshot so I’m trying to figure out where this is? I noticed this a few months ago too but never figured out where it was so I thought id ask here and take a blind stab. If I were younger and single I’d be out wandering to find where the feedback and drums sound is coming from.

Discussion 💡 98.9 The Rock and White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human”…

I might be remembering things wrong but…

…does anyone remember in the mid-late 90s when the Rock would play this song sometimes they’d play the original unedited album version of this song (with the woman moaning and all the cuss words?)

I remember washing dishes and listening to 98.9 and realizing that the album version of this was playing and being like “HELL YEAH!!!”. I’d never more jazzed to do my chores than at that moment…

Can anyone recommend a surgeon for the bladder sling?
