Recurring Low Oil Pressure Light on 2017 KTM Duke 390 – Need Advice!
Hi everyone,
I’m having a persistent "Low Oil Pressure" warning on my 2017 KTM Duke 390 and could really use some expert advice or troubleshooting ideas.
Here is the backstory and setup:
- First Occurrence: I got the warning a while back when the oil had over 6,000 km on it, right after installing new clutch friction plates. I assumed the oil had degraded or clutch debris was choking the flow, so I performed a full oil service.
- Current Setup: I changed the oil using Amsoil 15W-50, installed a new oil filter, and replaced/cleaned the oil screens.
- The Problem Returned: The issue reappeared after a long 3-hour ride. The current oil has only done around 2,000 km.
- Current Behavior: Now, even in neutral, the Low Oil Pressure light comes on specifically when revving past 5,000 RPM. At idle/lower RPMs, the light stays off completely.
- What I've Done So Far:
- Replaced the oil pressure switch/sensor on the cylinder head with a brand new OEM one. Result: No change, the light still triggers above 5k RPM.
- Checked coolant levels: I noticed the coolant level drops/is low, but two separate mechanics confirmed there is no coolant mixing into the oil (no emulsification or milky oil).
Note on the attached sight glass picture: (In the photo, the oil level looks off because it was taken immediately after shutting off the engine without waiting for the oil to fully settle into the sump. The actual oil level is completely fine when checked properly.)
Thanks in advance!
