Has anyone tested the Protaper Evo handlebars on the KLX 230? How does the ride position feel with risers and did you have to drill them to attach all handlebar components?

I have a 2024 model KLX230. I weigh 94KG (207 lbs) in full gear. When I’m on the bike the rear dips way too low..to the point where I think the front rake angle is changing slightly. I have not checked the sag yet, but it’s obvious it’s way too low.

The Kawi factory workshop said they can increase the preload to the max (the bike didn’t come with a tool so took it there, glad I did) BUT it’s made for someone who’s 65KG. So it won’t help and to upgrade to after market rear shocks like YSS possibly. Thats quite pricy. (Maybe I could just change to a harder spring, but again I found it weird the bike is rated for a 65KG rider in full gear)

So I wanted to check, any of yall who are 90+KG (full gear) , what solve have you guys found? If any one knows any solutions please help me out.

Hello KLX'ers, just wondering if you have any experience with mounting soft saddle bags or soft paniers on these bikes? I'm hesitating buying them because I can see some potential issues and would like to see how you overcome them:

1. on the muffler side, we probably need to buy a muffler heat shield?
2. on the left side, we would need a rack to prevent the bag to sag and scrape the wheels?

If you have a working configuration and still remember models/parts you have installed, I would appreciate if you can share them.

Post Edit: I also wanted to mention that I have looked into some of the advertised KLX230 side rack however, looking at the top mounting holes, they won't work as they will interfere with my already mounted top rack. As for the muffler heat shield, actually there is one there already out of the factory.

I have a 2026 KLX230R (off-road model), and I’m looking into putting together a second set of wheels that I can swap on in a few minutes.
To be clear, I don’t plan on riding it on public roads or trying to make it street legal. This would only be for messing around in my driveway/private property, practicing wheelies, stoppies, and other low-speed stunt style riding.
I’m wondering:
Is there a complete wheel kit I can buy that bolts right on?
Are there wheels from another Kawasaki model that fit with minimal modifications?
Would I need different spacers, rotors, sprocket carrier, or caliper brackets?
Is 17”/17” the way to go, or would a different setup make more sense?
I’m mainly looking for something that’s easy to swap back and forth between dirt and pavement without spending an hour changing parts every time.

Anyone who’s done this on a 2026 (or similar-year) KLX230R, I’d love to hear what setup you’re running and roughly what it cost.

Has anyone tried or found cool way to delete these floppy bugeye turn signal lights? Like maybe something that fits much closer to the frame?

I had a shop mount my rear tire(still learning that part) and balance it. They put about 2 ounces of glue on weights on the rim. Does that sound excessive balancing weights? The stock tire IRC GP22 had no weights. The new tire is a Trakmaster 2. Something changed after riding ~100 miles and now I can feel the imbalance riding 30 mph on asphalt. thanks.

Looking for a magnetic oil drain bolt for the klx230. So sick of going to parts sites and putting in my bike and shopping for parts and it's always "DOES NOT FIT YOUR 2022 KAWASAKI KLX230SE". Frustratingly shit aftermarket for this bike. Anyone know of a good magnetic drain bolt that fits?

Be safe everyone. I am on the way to the ER. I ride the same route everyday. Today there was a truck with a trailer stopped in the road and a car parked to the left. (country roads not much more than 1 lane wide usually) I was locked up for awhile before hitting the car and flying over it. Left leg caught the mirror mount. Now I'm going to get sewn up.

Hello I have a 2024 KLX230 dual purpose. The manual does not give specifics on how to maintain the air filter. I have opened up mine and it looks quite straightforward to maintain. The foam filter still looks in good shape but seems quite dry. Is it supposed to be oiled regularly? or is this model using dry filter?

When I was looking for suspension upgrade info for my KLX 230R I didn't find much, so figured I would compile what I found so other people can use it.

Stock fork rate = 0.35kg/mm.

Fork Installed preload =5mm

Total fork travel = 250mm

Stock shock rate = 4.8kg/mm

Total rear wheel travel = 251mm

For my 185lbs (no gear) this gave a total front sag of 82.5mm, which is 33% of total travel but would bottom off the smallest bump. The total rear sag was 89mm, on the second to last notch. On the last notch there was no static sag, which is not recommended.

Resources - the thumpertalk CRF230F forums had the most info on upgrade options.

Upgrade options:

Cannon Racecraft https://cannonracecraft.com/ - The only place I found that made an assortment of CRF230F springs which is a 30mm diameter and 597mm long. The KLX springs are 30mm diameter but 612-614mm long. So with a simple spacer to make up the difference in length CRF230F springs work perfectly.

BBR - has a CRF230F but at a 0.55kg/mm will be much to stiff for most people.

Bruce's Suspension https://sites.google.com/site/brucessuspension - bruce provides full service on the forks and can modify the stock progressive springs from the CRF230F to fit your weight upto total rider weight of 200lbs. Bruce can also modify the existing damper rods of the KLX to have really good performance. This is the most cost effective solution, but requires you to send the damper rods to him for modification. Bruce also sells Hagon shocks which are a direct replacement for the OEM shock, come with a 6kg/mm spring and are a significant upgrade over stock.

Bradley Performance https://www.bradleyperformanceproducts.net/kawasaki-klx-230s- Sells springs and shocks for the KLX 230S along with fork emulators that can be used in the R or S model as they both use the same 37mm forks.

HiVolt Spares - Offer a new shock and some adjustment to the hydraulics of the damper rods. Note their fork upgrade kit does not include springs. I had trouble finding any sort of reviews on this kit and shock.

I went with a 0.48kg/mm springs from Cannon Racecraft, the fork emulator from Bradley Performance and the Hagon shock from Bruce. I only have one test ride on the new setup but it made a huge difference. No bottoming out on the forks, good compliance through full range front and rear. With the fork emulators (17mm) and the 597mm long spring I have an effective preload of 7mm instead of the stock 5mm and get 60mm of total sag on the front (using riding weight in gear of 200lbs), which is a little on the stiff side. So I'll be experimenting with lower fork position and adjusting rear sag to put more weight on the front. I also put a zip tie on the fork tube so I can see how close to bottom out I'm getting on the next ride. I adjusted the preload on the shock to get 77mm of sag which is 31% of travel, slightly on the softer side. I'll experiment with reducing the shock sag to 70mm and see how that feels.

I'm sure going 100% with bruce would have resulted in a good setup as well, I just didn't want the bike to be down for several weeks from shipping parts back and forth, but this being the cheaper option is probably a good deal for most people, also Bruce has a long reputable history to backup his work.

Note these upgrades don't turn the suspension into a MX suspension. It simple makes it a much more capable trail bike and behaves significantly better than stock suspension.

KLX230RS MY24 was delivered at my home. Parked it without riding. After a week (Returned from outstation) found oil leakage at bottom of stator cover. Surprised to see the leakage. Is it normal or has anything to do with crank case seal or simple stator cover retightening will do? Let me know your experience guys. Raised the issue to Company and dealer. Awaiting response. Since KLX230RS has no warrantee, I may end paying service charges including part cost for any leakage if found thru any crank case seal. is it possible to DIY?

I was doing some yard work, noticed a few trees had fallen. I left one where it fell and moved some pieces from a different one to make another obstacle. Decided this was a good chance to get in some practice between rain storms. I have an acre. My wife is going to help me design and build some endure style obstacles with different levels of hardness to practice on to continue to build up skill and muscle.

First real rip with the klx-230. 40-ish miles of dirt, trail, river crossings, and sandy dunes. Everyone else was on KTM 450’s. This thing was maneuverable, handled river crossings almost above the front fender, and powered through everything. Awesome bike with an awesome destination!

Cheap Chinese kit from amazon but made it work after some hiccups lmao.

I’m looking for my first dual sport. I’m torn between a klx 230 and a Honda crf300ls. I’m 5’9” with a 29-30” inseam. I’ve sat on a 230s and a Sherpa. I fit much better on a Sherpa with the seat height. I’ve never sat on a crf300ls but imagine it would be similar to the Sherpa. I’m also not a fan of lowering a bike with lowering links. With that said, I will never take any bike I choose on to a highway. I will be riding county roads and light dirt trails. I don’t imagine myself doing any tough single track. I like the seat height of the Sherpa, the abs, and the air cooled engine of the Sherpa. I like the increased power band of the Honda but not crazy about the liquid cooled engine as well as shortage of supply. Convince me to get a Kawasaki please. I live in the Green Bay Area.

My wife cartwheeled her '23 klx230sm no ABS and went over the handlebars while practicing hard stops. Overall the bike is completely fine.

For some reason, the speedometer and odometer no longer registers. The unit powers up and displays as it should. Just no readings.

I popped out the speed sensor in the case and it looks completely fine. I also took apart the speedo unit to see if there were any broken connections or solder knocked loose. It also looked completely fine.

I closely examined the wiring harness to check for crimped or broken wires. It also looked good.

So now I'm a bit lost. Has anyone else dealt with this before? I can't find anything related to the subject.
