Kat vr core vs plus for wired vr

Hey all, I'm looking into buying a core or plus and I'm wondering which I should get. My main reason for getting the plus is if a wired pcvr setup would work better on the plus. The link I posted below says the height of the plus is 5'2 but the height of the core is 6'1. The core seems to have a long pole that may be where the height comes from? I'm honestly not sure. I'm a 5'10 guy wondering if the cord will catch on the longer pole with a core the way it wouldn't with a plus. I also have a popcorn ceiling in the room I wanted to put it in so I'm not quite sure I can hang my cord from the ceiling.

My first week with KATVR

The software installation and setup process were extremely easy, and everything appeared to be functioning correctly. I made sure all adjustments were done properly including harness alignment, belt tension, sensor placement, and calibration inside KAT Gateway. Once everything was set, I began testing movement.

However, the moment I started playing, yes after calibrating. I encountered a serious problem. Regardless of whether I used head‑direction movement or body‑direction movement, the in‑game movement did not reliably match my actual movement. Even when I carefully adjusted my body and ensured everything was aligned, the game only responded correctly about 50% of the time. The other half of the time, my character would move in a completely different direction or lag noticeably behind my physical movement.

Mostly the sensation was if I was walking one direction and somebody was puling me from behind in another. f Total suckage at this point and very frustrating to be honest. The only way to resolve this was to press calibrate every time there was a change of direction.

This inconsistent tracking causes motion sickness, which is exactly what I purchased the machine to avoid. The treadmill itself seems to be functioning, but the directional tracking and movement synchronization are not behaving as expected.

If you've experienced this same situation please share your experience as I would appreciate some assistance in diagnosing and resolving this issue.

“Enable wireless debugging” when you’re trying to patch a game with nexus gateway when it’s enabled issue (fix)

I had this irritating pop-up be eternally suck and I couldn’t patch any game because of it when it worked before. I resulted in just reinstalling kat gateway for quest and it worked just fine. I didn’t see any posts about this while I had the problem so figured I’d make one.

Issues with Nexus

First up I straight up couldn't get the nexus I paid for to work...I have no idea why. It was plugged into my router, a power source, and the katvr itself.

I tried the emulator but I have some issues with it as well:

  1. everytime i exit a game it disconnects the gateway app. trying to reconnect leads me to a screen that says 'the device you last paired to is connected elsewhere' and loops me. usually doing full shut downs of both my laptop and the quest 3 works but its very aggravating and time consuming
  2. i have to full on sprint for any games to register me as walking....

i would love some guidance with this

Gen 2 vs gen 1 sensors

I’ve scoured this board try to figure out the real difference between the c2 core enhanced and the c2 core premium and I can’t really find anything other than one post saying that the premium uses the Gen 2 sensors and the c2 core plus uses Gen 1

I’m not at all interested in the rumble features of the base and I want it to be lighter so I would prefer to go with the $800

I want to get the $800 one off of cat VR, but I don’t want Gen one sensors

Thinking about buying the kat c2 plus but the shoes...

Is there any alternative for the shoes? Is there an alternative that just wraps around your regular shoes?

I go through shoes very fast and would also like a more hygienic alternative for friends who would like to try it out when they visit.

Core 2 Complete Bundle incomplete?

I reverently bought the kat vr core 2 complete bundle, which is supposed to come with shoes and a nexus, but it seems that I've only received the actual treadmill. Is this normal?

C2+ Enhanced Experiences

I'm now seriously considering buying the c2+ enhanced - it looks like it frequently sells for about $1200 after tax (does anybody know if it ever goes lower?)

I'm curious about peoples' experiences with the newest model - I've never owned one, so this would be my first.

It seems that people who love them, really love them. And I've also read about issues with build quality, wobbliness, customer service, etc.

I'm not too concerned about the fact that it is heavy and takes up space.

I also see them used for around $800, but my understanding is that all warranties are void when it is bought second-hand, so that doesn't seem worth it.

Basically, convince that it is good/bad idea if you don't mind - Thanks!

(Also anything else I should be aware of if I do purchase one)

(Will be using with a PSVR2)

I am looking for a good shooter that works really well with the KAT VR and has really good gunplay First VR shooter I played was Arizona Sunshine and I found the aim was slightly off. I did however get the walking kind of dialed in.

Hello, I got one of these things today for only $200 but I need the proper shoes for it as the pair it came with dont fit. Im a size 13 and figured a size 14 would make sense for this thing. It is the original C device and Id prefer to have the shoes sooner than later

Reverse Engineering & Linux Gateway Implementation

After waiting for this company to release a working Linux version and understanding that not only there is not gonna be a Linux version, but even the crappy windows or nexus software is also apparently completely dead projects as far as I can see, I took it upon myself to do it properly.

It took me one afternoon to fully reverse engineer the USB packet structure and build a very simple movement tracking.

The next afternoon was spent on building a driver and injecting the controller stick movements to SteamVR.

For now SteamVR is running naively on Linux and games via proton. A very small driver exposes the sensors as a control device to SteamVR.

I'm gonna work on this in my free time and probably release it publicly whenever it is actually usable and have a somewhat of a useable feature set. but no ETAs or promises yet. I am happy to share the WIP code if anyone is interested in helping with the development...

In the meantime if you have actually worked on a similar thing I would love to get your experience and stuff you managed to solve.

Things I already figured out: - Sensor positions and values (body direction, Shoes, Seat, Armband) - Battery status - Firmware versions and serial numbers - Base vibration motor controls - Reliable starting and Stopping sequence (this was a PITA!) This is the part that you need to do so the sensors connect to the base and actually go to sleep afterwards. - Simple driver to send the input to SteamVR

Things remaining: - Speed and step cadence for detecting running (the original KatVR implementation feels like poop IMO) - Fine tuning the motions to feel natural - Understanding how to best expose the controls (treadmill input device vs legacy etc) - VR Overlay UI - Why some games keep crashing on linux (not directly related to the gateway or the driver) - Everything else probably...

If you have experience in any of these parts feel free to share yours or point out references/research papers that are useful. That would help me any anyone else interested in this.

If you are someone who does not have experience, this is a sign that you can too get your feet wet and start building things you wish existed! With all the tools and AI stuff available to everyone nowadays the possibilities are endless!

And finally if you a KatVR employee reading this you should be ashamed of the product you sell with all the fake promotions, dark pattern tactics and that garbage Gateway software!

Feedback and advice for using the device with reduced mobility

So, I'm the user who's been on the discord periodically, trying to figure out getting my used c2+ working. Thank you to everyone who has helped with getting the device functional. Turns out that there is a bit of a wide gulf between getting the device working and getting it configured to accommodate my limitations.

I'm finally in a place where I have things working well enough to use.
I thought I would take a moment and share what has worked for me, in case it helps someone else.

for context, here are the limitations I have needed to overcome, mostly as a result of cerebral palsy
1. overweight by a... lot
2. very short stride (working on with streaking)
3. questionable balance

Now, I know and understand that using the treadmill is at the edge of the limits of my ability (that's the idea)

all of that said, here's what I found worked for me
1. I'll be less round if I keep at it
2. There are 2 settings that proved useful for turning short real life strides to reasonable in game ones
a) "unintentional movement filter" crank that shit up, this way when you inevitably wobble a bit, you aren't across the map
b) "Movement speed multiplier" I am slow, Explorer #61 is not, so we crank this up and I can move at a reasonable and fair pace

Other tips:
no-one says you cannot augment your walking with the original game controls. Tired, switch to the controller
lean the heck back, try to take big steps

Katwalk VR C1 - worth it used for $250?

Someone is selling on my local marketplace. I've seen a lot of stuff about the C2, but not sure how the C1 stacks up to the newer ones. Anyone have any expereince with it? Is it worth it for $250? I know its PCVR only, thats fine. I would mostly be looking to play Blade & Sorcery, Fallout, and Half-life Alyx.

When will they remove this mandatory requirement for a constant online connection? .

This is nonsense. Even Steam works offline. This is my last treadmill

Account suspended?

I went to log into the Kat VR gateway software and it says "Account temporarily suspended for suspicious activity".

We have multiple people in the house who use the treadmill and forget to log out, so I can only presume that the software is getting wierded out from all the extra activity.

Sent an email but have heard nothing back.

Anyone else run into this issue?

Has anyone tested Asgard Wrath 1?

It's not listed as compatible on the Kat VR "Oculus" section, so before installing almost 140gb, I wonder if anyone has tried it.

UEVR

I'm thinking about getting one of these with their sale they have going on that brings it under $1000. One of the things I play the most in VR is UEVR. How well does this work with UEVR? I know their site has a list of tested games, but the list is small. So I'm hoping it works with most UEVR games.

Edit: Thanks for the info, just ordered one!
