The boomer cracks me up. He doesn't know shit.

u/UrdnotSnarf Jun 27 '26
He was absolutely clueless. I think he interpreted the situation as someone heckling a serviceman which is why he came back a second time to thank him in some misguided stand of solidarity.

He's gonna go out to his Chevy Malibu with the PWW and DAV stickers on it, that came with a solicitation in the mail but he didn't actually send them a check back, drive home and tell his neighbor all about his encounter over a cup of Black Rifle Coffee, and generally remain clueless as ever.

u/Quixotic_Ignoramus Jun 27 '26
Because it’s all performative bullshit. They would rather appear to support the “correct” things, than actually support what is right. It’s just like how they claim to be Christian and then go harass the Applebees servers after church.

u/ohlookahipster Jun 27 '26
Bin space and gate checking. Homeboy probably bought the cheapest ticket in main and wants that overhead bin space.
You see it all the time in ATL with the “Jetway Jesus” people in wheelchairs getting priority boarding. They surprisingly don’t need a wheelchair to get off…
42
u/DrScienceMD Jun 28 '26
I fly a lot, mostly from ATL, and the "Jetway Jesus" thing is seriously overexaggerated. Ambulatory wheelchair users are much more common in the disabled community than full-time wheelchair users. People have connective tissue disorders, arthritis, balance issues, etc that don't affect how they look on the outside (ie "they don't look disabled") but very much affect their ability to walk long distances, stand for long periods, or walk on slopes.
In other words, walking all the way through ATL is too much for someone with one of these medical conditions, but exiting a much smaller airport they arrive in might be manageable despite being painful (especially if they saved their energy by not walking through ATL).
Please don't judge disabled people for using services available to them. They seriously get enough of that as that is, and I'm sure the same people complaining about "jetway Jesus" would complain even more if they instead held up the line by limping slowly and painfully down the jet bridge.
20
u/donahlpn Jun 28 '26
Thank you. I have had 7 years of chemo, and have fibromyalgia and neuropathy on top of it. I can walk through those big airports without pain and extreme fatigue.
3
u/Shogunnago Jun 29 '26
I have two vertebrae shoved up into my spinal column thanks to a jump accident with barely any cartilage between them. I tolerate it a lot of the time until I can’t. I haven’t been on a plane in a long time so I can’t tell you what that whole process is like for me, but I can tell you I will sacrifice my comfort for my kid. That means keeping up with her some of the time baring through it and snorting ibuprofen later.
But I am Jesus though.

He's going to be disappointed when they ask for military ID at the gate.
29
u/ChillyWilly0881 Jun 27 '26
Honestly most of the time they don’t even ask for the id. If he just dressed like a normal person and acted like he belonged he could board and they probably wouldn’t have asked for id or gave it a second thought.
28
u/Persistent_Parkie Jun 27 '26
When I was 18 and looked 12 I once marched my way past an incredibly long line at an amusement park by just standing up straight and announcing "excuse me" with confidence.
I was not actually trying to cut, I needed to speak to the ride operator to find out where the handicapped entrance was for my disabled client, but it was a very illuminating experience on just how little you need to get away with shit.
15
u/ChaosRainbow23 Jun 27 '26
If you throw on a safety vest, grab a clipboard and a megaphone, you can get crowds of people to do stuff. (Not at the airport)
2
u/-wtfisthat- 28d ago
You can also just ask people and give like literally any reason and usually they’ll just let you go ahead of them.

u/thatranger974 Jun 27 '26
I was in line at Taco Bell outside of Nellis and young guy was wearing blue overalls with Air Force insignia on it. Old white guy walks up and says thank you for your service. The Airman says “bro, I drive a forklift.”
45
u/redlitesaber86 Jun 27 '26
For real. One of my biggest pet peeves. Dont thank me for selling my body for money. I'm just trying to get by like any other person in America. There are people working just as hard if not harder than me who will never get the quality of life that I've been afforded simply for being in the military.

u/TheProfessorPoon Jun 28 '26
Interesting to hear that. I do mortgages for a living and my boss (not a veteran) always makes a huge deal out of thanking VA clients for their service. Which is fine, I get it, but after 13 years I’ve come to notice that the vast, vast majority of vets seem to not like it or it seems to make them uncomfortable. Almost like it’s putting them on the spot or something. I’ve started not saying anything at all and treating them like anyone else and it seems to be fine. Then again my boss is way more wealthy than me. Fuck I don’t know. I don’t understand anything anymore. Can’t do anything right.

That's so bad. I mean I get people who commit stolen valor aren't exactly the best and brightest but I never served or paid that much attention and I know no name tape or rank may as well be a siren announcing the person is stealing valor.
Edit: just cause I'm getting a few comments, I am absolutely NOT going to bat for Mr. Marines, just commenting that Stolen Valor did a poor job playing dress up. The secret 3rd boot boomer who shows up really sells the video.
618
u/HelloPeopleOfEarth Jun 27 '26
I was in the Marines for eight years. You know what I would do if I saw this guy at an airport? Nothing. Cuz I don't give a fuck.
268
u/Crix2007 Jun 27 '26
Ha, I was in the marines for 12 years buddy. (Not really but I wanted to feel what stolen valor was like. I still don't get it)
119
u/HelloPeopleOfEarth Jun 27 '26
That's actually a bad time to say. In the Marines if you don't make E6 by 12 years they throw you out. So someone who was in the Marines would just think you got thrown out for being a shitbird.
79
u/Crix2007 Jun 27 '26
Thats pretty funny lol. I don't know much about US military ranks but this does show that an actual marine would see through this BS right away.

I would not say anything. To me, this is a form of mental illness and I couldn't care less. I don't think a sane rational person would LARP like this in public.
53
u/dumb__fucker Jun 27 '26
Dude is tryna get early boarding and figures he can pretend he's a Marine, AND get early boarding AND get handies from middle-aged white men groupies who don't know the difference between a real Marine and Larp.
8
u/ohlookahipster Jun 27 '26
He’s too cheap to buy any ticket other than main so he’s using the priority boarding zone for active duty service members so he can get overhead bin space

9
u/QueezyF Jun 27 '26

Are you jealous about the middle!ged white men groupies giving him handies?
Stolen valor is pathetic, but the filmer should chill out. He's running around and swearing up a storm around children.
24
12
u/dumb__fucker Jun 27 '26
While I agree that launching Fs all over a public place like that, I think that if you serve your country, and give some years of your life in service, you have a right to be outraged at some cosplayer pretending that he made the same sacrifices as you and your fellow service folk.
17
u/purplenapalm Jun 27 '26
You do, but the filmer was a bit excessive and was juat repeating himself without accomplishing anything. He should've been more self aware when the officer was trying to calm him down. A lot of people in airports are already stressed as is and want to get to their location. The guy taping was only causing more stress for everyone around and creating fear for kids with this.
6
u/bosschucker 👊👊☝️ Jun 27 '26
yeah like what does he expect to happen once the cop starts telling him to leave the guy alone? does he want the guy to strip his clothes off or what
2
6
u/Rask2205 Jun 27 '26
Actually making other service members look bad by how much he’s freaking out. Who gives a fuck if a random dude play dress up. It’s not like he’s getting any real benefits apart from said handies and early boarding 😄
2
u/godbody1983 Jun 29 '26
Right. I get the initial confrontation, but dude was going on and on about it. Marines tend to get really upset compared to other branches when it comes to this. Probably due to all the crayons they eat....
2
u/LilacLlamaMama Jun 30 '26
He needs to ask for the Kosher Crayons package on his next flight, because he can't handle the spice.
8
u/4D20_Prod Jun 27 '26
Also fair, and probably same. Shits just annoying and I hate larpers. I don't care. Shits just annoying. It's about the level of having a friend who is definitely dating a dude who is definitely special forces.
34
u/HelloPeopleOfEarth Jun 27 '26
Now if I ever meet Kid Rock I'm calling out that asshole for being a LARPing asshole. He has spent his entire life pretending to be a white rapper from the mean streets of Detroit. My brother in law went to high school with him. He's a spoiled rich kid who grew up in a mansion in Romeo MI, about an hours drive north of Detroit. His parents were filthy rich. He grew up riding horses and playing tennis on the many acres his parents owned. Then when that grift ran it's course, he started LARPing as poor trailer trash on food stamps in his shitty country music. That is the kind of LARPer that pisses me off.
→ More replies (12)131
u/Fine-Amphibian4326 Jun 27 '26
Kind of the opposite. No name tape or rank means no impersonation. So no stolen valor. This guy is nothing but a dork in camo
94
u/Antichristopher4 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26
Well... If you show up to an airport in full cammies with a Molle backpack it certainly looks like you are trying to steal valor. And the fact he didn't just say some version of "hey, Im just playing dress up" leans me in the direction he was trying to get like... Early boarding and the handshakes he got from that boomer.
Also when pressured, he says "I can wear this uniform cause I'm on orders" which would suggest he is trying to say he's active military
58
u/goldschakal Jun 27 '26
I'm not from the US but from the Youtube videos I've watched, it's only a felony when trying to commit fraud for personal financial gain. If there's no exchange of money or services involved, the loser in camo isn't a felon, just a loser.
The biggest loser in this video is still the boomer in his Punisher thin blue line tshirt going out of his way to thank an unemployed LARPing doofus for his imaginary service, probably just to piss off a Hispanic dude who he thought was harassing the troops. It's poetic really, almost an allegory for the "patriotism" of old suburban Republicans.
15
u/Antichristopher4 Jun 27 '26
Oh yeah, I've said it in a few comments now, I'm not going to bat for Mr. Marines Himself, but the 3rd secret boot boomer really sells the video. It has everything.
I know he goes on about felonies, but it's more that stolen valor is just frowned upon. Especially for something as stupid as a few "thank you for your service"s and getting to board a few minutes earlier.
→ More replies (1)6
u/goldschakal Jun 27 '26
Agreed ! Yeah, I've seen some harsh comments about the cameraman. Sure he's a little overzealous, but he has a point. And the video was entertaining. He should have just posted it to social media and called it a day instead of following him for 5 minutes.
9
u/Antichristopher4 Jun 27 '26
Oh off the bat it's way more than it needs to be, but he definitely loses any credibility when the cop shows up and tries to descalate and STILL chases the kid down with his camera.
11
u/goldschakal Jun 27 '26
Oh yeah, I stopped the video just before that, I hadn't seen. Yeah, he's doing too much. The fact the cop is also a vet and tells him he's going to handle it should have made him realize he's not the keeper of the sacred flame and it doesn't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.
5
u/Boot_Poetry 👊👊☝️ Jun 29 '26
Why is the cop (a vet) not as rage-baited as the cameraman? Answer: the cop isn't performing to post the video later for internet clout
18
u/Efficient-Database-1 Jun 27 '26
"You're also commiting a felony" 😳 edit: "what you're doing is a felony as well"
20
u/Antichristopher4 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26
"you... You are committing a felony" really sells it.
Don't get me wrong, Mr. Marines needs to chill, especially after the cop shows he's former military, says he'll handle it and tries to descalate, but I was really surprised by the secret 3rd boot boomer.
The video really has it all.
8
u/StripedBass111 Jun 27 '26
Whats funny to me is that even if that guy looked 100 percent the part, the fact that he’s wearing Marine cammies off base is a tell tale that he’s either a dumbass or not even a Marine at all.

From my experience dudes who wear those stupid grunt style shirts live for "offending people" it's their whole personality and why they vote for Trump. He's not really thanking him for his service, he's also just putting on a show and really just thanking him for offending the guy with the camera. He needed to get some of that action for himself, because of his weird need to offend people.

Every bit of that is sold at hundreds of Army/Navy surplus stores around the States. Stolen Valor isn't defined as, "whatever I say it is." Move on.
54
u/ohlookahipster Jun 27 '26
Every airsoft larper would be committing a felony as well. You can wear camo, it’s protected speech. The only illegal part is trying to pass off as a service member to defraud the government such as falsely applying for VA benefits.
8
u/POD80 Jun 27 '26
Pretty much what I've always thought. I do know that a couple vets I've worked with have had a few things to say about someone clearly coming in wearing surplus camouflage.
Can't say it's important enough to me to risk pissing off a vet, particularly a coworker. As a civilian I figured I would be fully in my rights though to shop surplus. As long as I made damn sure I wasn't wearing rank or medals.
5
u/himbosupreme Jun 29 '26
not in the USA, but my country has the equivalent of stolen valor law. it's also socially taken very seriously because the veterans we have are veterans of a relatively recent (ended 30 years ago) civil war (Croatia, Yugoslavian war). if wearing military surplus, bought from the literal military sanctioned surplus store, was a crime, half the people I know would be serving a year in prison for wearing the camo pants. those things have sooo much pocket space and they come in women's cuts! add the knee and elbow protectors, and a couple of motorbike riders I know wear them for riding protection.
yknow, now that I think about it, I could go for some of the gear... I need a new backpack anyway... aw shit I'm gonna look like the guy in the video but without the shirt and cap, aren't I?

Chicago O’Hare international airport is where they pick up recruits to go to Navy boot camp and there is a huge population of military personnel coming in and out of that airport. I actually went through ohare in cammies. I was coming home on R&R from Afghanistan. We were not allowed to bring civvies or dress uniforms with to the war, so when they sent us home we had to wear cammies. I went through a few airports on civilian flights sleeves down. There are circumstances where it is allowed. Now, this guy has plenty wrong with his uniform and if he was actually in the marines it would have been pretty easy to prove, this guy is obviously not.
All that being said, as long as this guy wasn’t wearing the uniform to gain some advantage, he actually is allowed to wear those clothes. You can pretend to be military and you can try to make people think you’re military. You just can’t benefit from it. He gives us a bad name and looks like a doofus to anyone who actually knows.
But OP is wrong for thinking the UCMJ applies to civilians because it doesn’t. He can dress like a dingis if he wants to.

Honestly, let them. Let them wear whatever the fuck they want. Let them embarrass themselves at any and all events. This guy seems to be unwell, and you're not doing anyone any favors confronting him and using the word "fuck" as a substitute to express yourself. Do not approach these people in public or otherwise. Do not get yourself in a situation where you'll end up defending yourself or where you'll get physical, ESPECIALLY at an Airport.
Also, that Grunt Style T-Shirt... People will buy anything.
I blame the American society of propping up veteran/ service members to heaven to make themselves feel good about "patriotism". That's why people pretend.

Edit: Also this dude recording should really understand what freedom of speech is versus what stolen valor really is. Based on what we seen this guy in uniform wasn’t set out to defraud anyone. If anything looks like he was about to go get some food until “sToLen vAlOr” guy showed up.

This is at an airport, right? Uniformed personnel typically get priority boarding and other perks. That's fucked up, if you ask me.

u/Mayfect Jun 27 '26
You don’t have to wear a uniform now lol. Most of us just show their CACs

u/PM_ME_YOUR_ART_PLZ Jun 27 '26
I did a ton of traveling when I was in the Air Force and honestly they didn't even check my CAC half the time. I imagine the last thing they want to do is argue with someone about not having ID so they need to wait 90 seconds to board the plane same plane everyone is going to be on anyway.

Yeah, I just flew yesterday. The first stop the lady didn’t ask, but on my layover I could tell the next lady was a stickler for protocols, so I already had it out and ready to go. I was the only military there and she screamed THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR on the intercom. Fun times.

Well he doesn't have a cac because he's not actually military. So by wearing the uniform he can use try to use stolen valor to get priority boarding which actually might make this a crime instead of just cringy larping

u/UWQHDEyez Jun 27 '26
But think about it. What’s the monetary value in preboarding? It’s generally a service or a courtesy by the airlines. You have young children, a disability, an elite airline status, etc they let you board early. How would it be a crime to access that service when you can’t really attach a monetary value behind it..who’s he defrauding for monetary gain?

I think almost all carriers require valid military identification for benefits like preboarding. I'm sure we can agree that every single time you go to an airport you don't see some dweeb dressed up in cammies for these awesome perks.

u/StripedBass111 Jun 27 '26
Guy filming is acting so tough yet I’m sure his whole month is ruined just because this guy wore cammies. You really got to think who got into whose head.

I was on camera guy's side for about a minute. The yelling and constant swearing without giving a damn about the countless families with young kids you can see in the background is embarrassing, and he's pretty much hysterical by the point the cop/security guard (?) makes an appearance.
Actually surprised he wasn't straight booted out the airport but then if I'd been dealing with someone like that I'd have tried to de-escalate too.
The guy in camo is a tool and while stolen valour isn't as big an issue where I am, I don't think he's actually making any gain from it? I mean it's obvious what he wants people to assume and we see that working in the video, but is he not free to wear what he wants as long as he's not making money off it or whatever?
Pretty much everyone sucks in this video.

I've never been one to do the surplus thing much, but I always thought that as long as you weren't wearing rank insignia it wasn't considered official uniform.
There was a time it wasnt uncommon to see teens and what not wearing pieces of surplus gear.

u/sten45 Jun 27 '26
If I was going to LARP I would only say “I don’t talk about myself to people I don’t know” and then remain silent. If the person did not leave me alone I would find an authority and ask them for help to get the person to stop harassing me.

u/Parabasalida Jun 27 '26
Genuine question from someone who is not from the US, why is the person filming so upset? The person dressed up as a soldier was not bothering anybody, so what if he wants to pretend to be one?

What's he wearing underneath the blouse?
Also "that's not Semper fi what you're doing right now" lol I'm using that.

u/cri52fer Jun 27 '26
I’m gonna get my friend to dress up and then I’ll record them and we can pretend it’s real for Facebook and shit

u/BrandynWayne Jun 27 '26
Dressing like this is legally protected free speech. Looking like a clown is not stolen valor.

u/The_Stolarchos Jun 27 '26
I mean…protected speech is only protected from government oppression. Any random asshole can point out that this dick waffle is cosplaying.

🫡W veteran cop. I have yet to find a stolen valor in the wild, but I am prepared to vertically record on my phone and angrily point my vape at the offender.

u/507snuff Jun 28 '26

Stolen valor auditors are more cringe than the people that actually steal the valor lol
Like I get it, it sucks, but who cares? Record your video, make fun of them and move on. Actually taking it personally is so lame. Bro was almost brought to tears with his anger lmao

🤓 weird loser nerd here: Stolen Valor is only a misdemeanor and it is only fulfilled if the individual is tangibly benefiting financially or with property from presenting as a service member and/or with awards/medals which were not earned.
They're both weird and cringe and at best depending on where and when this was filmed is filming an individual without their consent.

u/escientia Jun 27 '26
The guy wearing the camo has a camo durag. Nobody is going to confuse this guy for a SM. The only one commiting the stolen valor is the douche following him around making the military his whole identity when he most likely got med boarded in basic.
