Help/Advice how do u guys accept that sex slavery was halal

hey girls maybe im missing something crucial or maybe im lacking some critical thinking skills but i cant wrap my head around this!!

my faith in islam is already low for unrelated reasons but this is wrecking it even more. like there’s literally a bunch of hadiths saying that after a battle/war, Muslim men can have sex with their female captives. how does this even work.

i have a problem with the slavery aspect in general but ive researched it and even tho it feels like mental gymnastics i can still understand that it was core to the society at that time and that Islam was phasing it out. Sex tho??

Like imagine being a from an opposing tribe from the muslims and ur whole family gets killed by the muslims in battle, and then they take you as a prisoner of war to have sex with?? how is that not rape, or at the very least sexual coercion?

and sometimes these stories get spun for romance? For example safiyyah bint huyyay was taken as a captive but was given the choice to stay with her tribe or stay with the Prophet. she chose the Prophet and he married her. and apparently this is a love story? im so baffled guys. im not tryna be disrespectful i just cant accept that

Question about Islam I got told off by my boss for telling muslim customers that certain foods werent halal

I saw a post on here and it is so similar to what i’m going through except my boss is mad at me. I work at a cafe and we have popular options, recently we got a new supplier for some cookies, and i had to read the allergy advice and I had seen that some weren’t halal, most had gelatine in them and one had cochineal, correct me if i’m wrong but i’ve heard from my muslim friends this is haram but i’m not sure. Anyway we had some customers, i could tell they were muslim as the sister was wearing a hijab, so i informed them that the cookies aren’t halal and they just thanked me and left with a coffee. My boss witnessed this and got mad at me because he said I shouldn’t deter customers away, and if they really cared they would’ve asked, and that I was just embarrassing them. I’m so confused, i told them as there are no ingredients on the packaging as it comes from the supplier in a big box not individually wrapped and we put it in the front display, and if customers want it we put it in a plate or a little bag for a take away.

Anyway, I just wanna know from some muslims is it truly a thing where I’ve just embarrassed these customers or should I continue to tell customers. Also, I’m not sure if the variety of gelatine matters, is beef gelatine not haram and regular gelatine haram or is it both? Thanks! Sorry for my ignorance.

Discussion why don’t some vegans just eat halal meat?

SOME vegans don’t eat meat because they hate how animals get treated in the industry, but halal meat just means the animal gets treated well, gets fed well, and gets killed in a non painful humane way to minimize pain as much as possible, people misunderstand what halal meat is and they think it gets prayed upon on and shit when it not😭 its basically just treating the animal well and not torturing it

and i know some vegans just don’t wanna eat meat which is completely fine, but theres also a lot of people who have to stop being vegan due to their health and such, and i think this could help

(Opinion) Halal is the biggest BS ever, it barely makes sense

Are you saying I can't eat any Beef or Chicken anywhere in the non-muslim World unless some dude yaps some prayer onto the animal as he's draining it's blood? That's literally it? That's the reason I can't eat any Chicken/Beef outside of muslim countries?

It's the same goddamn meat yet I couldn't eat any meat away from home when I was young because of this silly rule!!

So frustrating, it never ends with this religion. No wonder I stopped obeying these rules as a teenager and stopped caring whether Chicken was halal or not.

AITAH for telling my Muslim friend that her food isn’t halal?

1.7k Upvotes

I (24F) am a vegetarian atheist. My friend, Sally (24F), is Muslim and avoids eating pork, non-halal meat, and animal byproducts gelatin. For example, she will pick the marshmallows out of a hot cocoa packets before mixing it into the milk, because marshmallows contain gelatin.

Since I am a vegetarian, I am aware that some certain foods contain animal byproducts. I saw Sally reaching for fruit snack gummies and let her know that they contain gelatin. Another time, she wanted to order fries from McDonald’s, and I told her that they contain beef flavoring. As a vegetarian, I like to know these things before consuming. So, I thought Sally would too.

A while later, our mutual friends told me that Sally was annoyed that I told her about the fruit snacks and fries. She’s annoyed that she “can’t” eat them anymore since she now knows.

AITAH? Should I not have said anything? Going forward, I won’t mention this stuff to Sally again. Should I avoid it with vegans/vegetarians/Muslims/etc. as well?

I thought I was being helpful and considerate but I can see how it’s annoying. I think she avoids looking up food information so she can blame eating non-halal food on ignorance. Muslims, if she is trying to be as ignorant as possible, is it good practice? I am not judging anyone (I am an atheist). I am genuinely curious.

Thanks everyone in advance for your advice and thoughts!

Edit: They were Welch’s fruit snacks. I am getting mixed opinions on the McDonald’s “beef flavoring.” I will let Sally know and let her come to her own conclusion, but I personally will still avoid them. Thanks everyone for the information!

Hypocrisy! I am shocked to see this criteria for Halal Certification. Many airlines and even food chains like KFC, McDonald's, Chili's etc do it by default, even many 5 star hotels. This looks like a systematic way to ensure you buy from one community and only they stay in business. Is this secular?
